This was my first book by the author, and I'm looking forward to reading more from her. I found the book to be emotional yet full of hope. Part romance and part family drama, it was a great story with a satisfying ending. I did find it dragged a little bit in parts but overall a great book.
I saw this cover and I was obsessed, it is so gorgeous.
The story itself takes you on such a beautiful journey. Though tough themes, it's written in a lovely uplifting way.
Highly recommend picking this one up.
Okay, so this one was a surprise. Not sure if I expected it to be as devastating as it was at the beginning but wow. This was a roller coaster of emotions.
The best way to summarize it: a beautiful story about loss, grief, forgiveness, acceptance and moving on to something great that is waiting for you.
I’m sitting here while thinking about the lesson this book gave me.
It’s not for everyone. Please check the topics of this book before reading it.
This is a super cute story. Very relatable and heartfelt. I adored Elle. She was the star of the book. At times I felt it was a bit slow though
This was a heartwarming story of love and forgiveness I really enjoyed the storyline and loved how the characters grew throughout the story. A nice easy read.
Thank you Netgalley.
I was first drawn in by this story by the cover - it’s beautiful. And then you read the title and have to ask yourself if you’re ready to deal with some emotions. As I read I fell more and more in love with Avery, Rochelle Weinstein is a master of characterization and that’s what really kept me coming back for more.
When We Let Go is a story of raw emotion, real life and a journey of discovering yourself before moving forward - something I personally connected with and felt Weinstein wrote about perfectly.
Thank you for this arc copy of When We Let Go. It wasn't; my type of book but others may like it. I did enjoy the cover picture though.
When Jude proposes to Avery, she freezes. Not sure she's ready to commit until she deals with her past, she decided to visit home and try to reconcile everything she left behind. What she doesn't expect is a tow-along in the form of Jude's teenage daughter. What comes of this is a heartwarming story of acceptance and belonging in an emotional journey.
Have you ever read a book you so loved that you struggled to write a review?
When We Let Go, which I read earlier this year, was that book for me. Rochelle B Weinstein, the author, got all the emotions on the page — shame, guilt, love, pining for a better future. A novel that I found unique and powerful.
Avery Beckett is in love with Jude Masters. They met while both struggling with grief, but they’re proud to have survived. When Jude proposes, life should be great. But Avery cannot leave behind a past which has caused her to question everything about who she is, and whether she deserves love.
In her search for truth, she ends up on a road trip back to her hometown with Jude’s cantankerous teenage daughter, Elle, which turns into an unanticipated journey of healing for both of them.
Any woman who’s struggled with a relationship with a teenage daughter (whether by birth or a stepdaughter), will relate to Avery’s struggle with Elle’s willfulness, and her mercurial flashes of love alternating with hatred.
A powerful story and an emotional read that hits on so many important themes — grief, shame, survival, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, based on what happened to us.
When We Let Go delivers an important message about believing we deserve love and how shame stands between us and achieving that. We can’t let someone love us if we are mired in shame and can’t love ourselves.
5 huge emotional — “get ready for all the feels” — stars from me!
Such a lovely written story. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and an absolute emotional rollercoaster throughout.
Please don't read this if you're already feeling down, it won't help your mood!
Thank you NetGalley, and the publisher for this ARC.
Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for an e-ARC of this novel in exchange for my review.
This is my first time reading A book by Rochelle B Weinstein and what a pleasure it was. What an absolutely beautiful story about love, loss, healing and moving on.
Avery, a woman who’s hiding secrets from her past and Jude, a widower with three children, are in love and have a deep connection. It should be a time of joy and excitement but Avery is in turmoil as she tries to deal with her traumatic past which she’s kept a secret from Jude.
In order to go on with her future, Avery needs to deal with her past so she can move on, forgive and find love again.
Such a beautifully written poignant story. It’s heartwarming and heartbreaking and an absolute emotional rollercoaster through and through.
Thank you NetGalley, Rochelle B Weinstein and the publisher for my arc of When We Let Go.
I think this might have been a me issue...a wrong time sort of situation. It was SAD. I wasn't looking for something so sad and that made me really hard pressed to pick it up.
If there were half star ratings, this book would get 3.5 Stars. I really feel that NetGalley needs to provide trigger warnings for their books. This book was good and I connected to the story because there were things in it that I didn't necessarily want to read about and in a way relive again.
That aside, I did appreciate the story and what Avery went through. I was surprised when I learned about Oliver, that was twist I did not see coming. And I was glad at how it ended, with every thing that both Avery and Jude had gone through they deserved to have a happy ending.
This book was everything I wanted it to be. It had me turned pages without even realizing. It was so good!

When We Let Go by Rochelle B. Weinstein
We all need to let go every once in a while….
This books was so easy to read and it teaches you many lessons about loss, forgiveness, relationships and guilt. We are all struggling with something… either being past of present… sometimes it takes us a little longer to see the bigger picture in our lives.
Avery is starting over after a traumatic event, which can be very difficult. The way she deals with her past and how she needs to control everything is her new way of living. Her boyfriend Jude, is a widow with 3 children who also has been through so much. Jude proposes to Avery but she cannot seem she say yes when he does because of her secrets.
Things happened so fast when one of Jude’s Daugther called to tell them that her brother is in the hospital and Avery’s sister calls to tell her that her dad is in the hospital as well. Avery leaves to be by her dad side.
The relationship Avery and Jude’s Daugther Elle have is unique. Elle lost her mother years ago, so Avery has been there for her as a mother figure. They learn to heal one another and help with grief as the days go by. Avery sees past the misbehaving child and understands Elle, knowing deep down she is sad and grieving a loss.
This book was so emotional I cried many times. Every character in the story has been through so much that it touched you and makes you relate sometimes to the story. Get ready to cry with this one!
Thank you @netgalley for the arc
This was my first time reading a novel by this author. I love the womens fiction genre and this one focused on loss and family. It would make a great tv series.
When We Let Go is the story of Avery who has the opportunity to build a new life with Jude and his daughter Elle.but she first has to let go of the pain of her life to this point. In Avery's journey she confronts her feelings about the past and is able to really be there for Elle. The journey with these characters is a moving one. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Jude and Avery have been dating for a long time. Jude has 2 sons and a teen daughter. When he proposes Avery has a meltdown because of a secret from her past. Now Avery returns to her hometown to come to grips with her past and has Jude's daughter, Elle. The two both have to solve the conflict in their lives in the North Carolina mountains. To quote the cover, "An emotional tale of mothers and daughters, loss and acceptance, When We Let Go is about the lessons that come from heartbreak and the healing it takes to embrace the joy of a second chance. "
This is a story about learning how to live your new normal after experiencing trauma and grief.
Our MC, Avery finds herself in a difficult situation where she’s unable to accept a proposal from Jude, even though she loves him. Avery feels this way because despite the fact that they’ve been together for years, she still has not been able to discuss her past with him. After her father has an accident, Avery finds herself back home where she is forced to face a lot of decisions and events that she would rather not think about.
Throughout the story Avery needs to learn to forgive herself and accept that it’s okay to move on after grief. She learns how to navigate her relationship with her sister after they both did things that hurt one another. And she also works on her relationship with Jude’s daughter (because BTW she accidentally joined Avery on her trip back home)
💐 When We Let Go is a story about learning to release the hold that the past holds on you, so that you can find what you want and need in your future.
