This book is creative and fast paced! At first I was baffles about a 16 year old being in the FBI but that does get explained. At least enough to make the story flow along. Chevron and Riley are constantly trying to run away from Garrick, who is one deadly opponent! I loved Riley's character the best. He seemed very down to earth, practical, caring, smart and fun to be around. While the plot jumped around between the three main characters' points of view, Riley's is one I would have liked to see more. Chevron seemed to have a neat personality, with a sassy edge but I just couldn't get quite as into her. Garrick annoyed me. Also, he is merged with another man after he travels through time which muddles his character too much for my taste.
Love Eoin Colfer's writing and I enjoyed this book. The world-building elements took getting used to but I love the imagination and the characters.
Eoin Colfer always writes a good tale and in this one you have an orphan, Victorian London, magic, and an assassination, good stuff for kids who crave fantasy and adventure.
Intriguing and well-paced. A well-developed start to the WARP series world and characters. Riley is an engaging main character and the reader finds themselves eager to follow his journey.
Another gem from Eoin Colfer! Fantastic storylines seem completely plausible and his characters come off the page fully realized right from the beginning.
I'm excited to recommend this book for my students when they come asking for suggestions of what to read next. I immediately went out and got the next books in the series and loved them, too!
Excellent start to the new series with both modern and historical storylines and some very strong and relatable characters. Colfer's great sense of humour shines through, and readers will love the fast-paced narrative.
I wanted to like this book. After reading and loving Artemis Fowl, I wanted to like this new series just as much. But perhaps I'm too old, perhaps fantasy for younger readers isn't my thing anymore? Whatever the reason I just didn't get on with this book. Through no fault of it's own, I'm sure.
