This is almost, but not quite, reminiscent of Danielle Steel’s older works which I always enjoyed very much. The writing is much more “solid” than some of her recent work, with characters who are more well developed, and the descriptions and situations much more believable. A good read for a fan of this author but also interesting for most general women’s fiction fans.
Danielle Steel brings us the story fashion mogul Theo Morgan and CIA Agent Mike Andrews. We first meet Ms. Morgan when she has decided to go to New York to help out at her pop up store. She has been in mourning for the past year after the horrific kidnapping of her husband and son ending in tragedy. On the way over, she meets network and social climber Pierre de Vaumont. Pierre feels lucky to have met and been invited to the pop up launch party in New York hoping to add her to his list of contacts.
Behind the scenes, CIA Agent Andrews gets involved when de Vaumont gets flagged and notices that Ms. Morgan is also on the same flight. This concern starts Mike on a mission that leads him to meet Theo. There is an instant spark between the two of them. But, will his mission get in the way of their budding romance? Is there any merit to his suspicions? If so, will this put her in danger?
Danielle Steel brings us a story where from loss and tragedy can bring the most unexpected things. You get the backdrop of New York City and Paris while you follow Theo, Mike, and Pierre around. You also get to see how well Ms. Steel weaves a tale with all these twists and turns so you don't always know where you are heading, but you know that you will enjoy the journey.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press for this privilege.
Another amazing Danielle Steel book, this one filled with mystery, action, heartbreak, and love.
Theo has a business empire she runs successfully, but is suffering from the brutal loss of her husband and son the year before. Those responsible for their deaths are still at large, and she has little desire to be out in public. CIA operative, Mike, finds it curious that Theo is on a plane with a man known for his Russian connections. He is concerned for her safety and immerses himself in her case, calling on contacts all over Europe for help. As time goes on the two meet and it is instant attraction. But danger still looms for Theo, and Mike is determined to keep her alive at all costs.
Loved the book , the characters, and thee page turner plot. Highly recommend.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Great book. Couldn't put it down. Finally after all the strategy Theo faced she finally found peace and happiness. Another great book by a great author.
I have been a Danielle Steel fan for over 40 years and look forward to each new release. Although some books are better than others, to me all are worth reading. In this story about tragic loss and rebirth we meet Theo a year after the tragic kidnapping and subsequent murder of her mogul husband and 13 year-old son. She travels to New York for a pop-up store opening for her online brand Theo.com. Here she meets Mike, a senior CIA agent. Their chemistry is electric and instantaneous. Unfortunately, after just one date, Theo feels she will never see Mike again as she lives in Paris and Mike in New York. Mike is not ready to close the door on the relationship and makes plans to go Paris. Thus begins a very satisfying long-distance relationship. However, Theo is in the same danger that took her husband and son's lives and Mike is determined to keep her safe. Loved the book and looking forward to the next two, The Challenge (August 2022) and The High Notes (October 2022). Can't wait!
Thank you Danielle Steel, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
I could read Danielle Steel books forever. When I’m finished with one, I come across another one and I’m never mad about it! This is another wonderfully written book about a woman attempting to move forward after suffering the loss of her family. Steel’s writing and execution is flawless as always. Always delivering an emotional punch that leaves you craving her best novel.
Suspects
Danielle Steel
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love Danielle Steel, she is such an amazing writer, she never misses a beat! With losing a husband and son to finding love again. She sure knows how to tell the stories. Suspects is another amazing book by her from loss to love again. Never pass up a Danielle Steel book!!
This story was very timely, in that it tells of Russian espionage and evil people at a time when most of us have bad feelings towards the country and its leadership. In typical Danielle Steel fashion, it deals with love and loss, and I couldn't put it down.
Wow, Ms Steel is SO prolific. It feels like I just finish one book and she has another on the way. Thank goodness!
I really enjoyed this book by Danielle Steel. It was very interesting and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
Theo is the literal queen of fashion. Living the life of luxury with the love of her life and their son, she has no idea what it to come.
Once the social butterfly, when her son and husband were kidnapped, held for ransom, and eventually killed, she withdrew from the limelight. She was scared, tired, and just so, so, sad.
On a flight to America, she meets the slippery Pierre de Vaumont. Unaware that he is on the watchlist for the American government, she has no idea what an innocent invitation to her fashion pop up will bring.
Ultimately, Theo and CIA agent Mike Andrews become intertwined and neither is prepared for the danger, lust, and love that is to come.
This is a romantic thriller. I loved the mix of suspense and romance in this book and the third person view point. This was a great book and it kept me wanting to read more and not put it down.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.
Once again, Steel resorts to having a kernel of a story wrapped in insidious repetition. Theodora Morgan, owner of a popular online shopping service, is widowed after a Russian kingpin kidnaps her husband and son. A year later, a CIA agent looking into a person on her flight learns about her and becomes fascinated. In "this only happens in books" fashion, he meets her and is immediately taken with (or obsessed, you name it) with her. Obviously, sparks fly and she falls for him too. Meanwhile, he's somehow getting international detectives and operatives to discover who kidnapped her family. Oh, and she's in danger too, wouldn't you know it?
What annoys me about this book is that there's no real plot. The story is tired, there's no emotional tug for the reader. It's all plainly laid out and doesn't deviate from what you expect to happen. It's the same old platitudes Steel always uses. A gorgeous, rich, fragile woman who suffers greatly but are yet so emotionally strong, A strong man that is willing to help her fix her problem. Add in a subplot of the potential kidnapping, a smattering of Russian mafia, and boo,m, she has a book. The only problem is that it's just boring. Two starx, but only because I finished it.
Another winner from Ms. Steel! This book was unlike any of her other books.. it had a few twists and kept you wondering what was going to happen, but it all came together in the end. I just love her writing and can't wait till the next book is available!
Intrigue at the start of the book regarding Pierre de Vaumont who was flying from Paris into the U.S. The plane was held in Paris because Pierre was on the No Fly List into the US with a notation saying he needed additional clearance. Also on that flight was Theodora Morgan CEO ofTheo.com and the widow Matthieu Pasquier, a business mogul of luxury fashion. Matthieu and their son Axel we’re kidnapped by six face masked men who were Russian/Ukrainian. Theo had been grieving in private for more than a year and this trip was her first back into actively working outside her home and office. Mike Andrews CIA Senior Supervising Operative and head of the local office of the DO became fascinated with Theo when he had to check into Pierre flying into the US and realized Theo was on the manifest list. Because of Theo’s wealth and the anger of a Russian that had business dealings with Theo’s husband, serious problems for Theo started happening. Thankfully because of Mike’s intrigue of Theo he was able help Theo. Good book with intrigue, sadness, mystery and romance. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others.
Theo is a strong, successful woman. In a tragic event, her husband and son are kidnapped and killed. She is still emotionally fragile a year later when she travels to New York for a business event. She inadvertently places herself in danger and is protected by a CIA agent with whom she has romantic chemistry. Danielle Steel knocks it out of the park again. An emotional, suspenseful read. Highly recommend!
This was a hard book to read due to the crisis in the Ukraine. While the author's intent was a thrilling espionage and killer romance, I 'suspect' it will be difficult subject matter.
The attacks and killings feel like art imitating life. In my opinion, it's too soon for this story to be told. We read fiction to escape life and while the storyline differs, the attacks are too brutal for this year.
Putting that aside, the protagonists shouldn't have met but forces outside of their control brought them together. To label their introduction as a meet-cute, would dismiss the danger Theo faced. Posing as a lawyer, buying his sister a luxury purse, Mike crashed the pop-up party to observe the situation.
Upon meeting, the two are drawn to each other. Both run the risk of being killed, Mike in terms of his profession and killers are out to extort millions from Theo after killing her husband and child. Drawn together despite dire circumstances, will their spark create an unexpected love story?
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early edition of #Suspects in exchange for an honest review. I'm a Danielle Steel fan but this wasn't one of my favorites. I'll admit that I might be biased due to the subject matter. That beings said, readers will fall in love the Mike and Theo's courage and root for them to succeed.
Listen, you can never, ever go wrong with Danielle Steel I have read her work for years and I have rarely been let down or disappointed in my reading experience. Facts are facts. This book is no exception. The romantic thriller is a new genre for my reading palette and I am coming to adore stories of this nature. The action, the plot twists and pace, as well as the development of the characters, overall, was delightful and offered a range of unexpected surprises as I journeyed throughout this story. I recommend this to the fullest for Steel fans as well as those who are not fans yet....there are really only two categories, right?!...alike! Highly recommend!!!
Suspects by Danielle Steel is a romance and a thriller. A CIA agent answers a call about a passenger from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport who is possibly on the No Fly list and ends up becoming infatuated with another passenger, whose name he recognizes from a recent tragedy. Not liking the coincedence that she would end up on the same flight as the other passenger, he becomes determined to protect her and pushes to find the group who murdered her husband and child.
This felt much more like a thriller than Danielle Steel's books normally do, which I enjoyed and had a hard time putting down.
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press and NetGalley.
Two diverse people meet and fall in love despite the challenges each faces. That's pretty much the storyline, but how they do so makes this tale fairly interesting and told in the manner that we have come to love or hate from Danielle Steel. I guess I love it since I read every book she publishes. Theo is a high powered owner of one of the most respected and successful online fashion distributors and Mike is a high level CIA agent who finds himself intrigued by Theo's tragic past and becomes totally enamored of her when he meets her. With the backdrops of New York. City and Paris mixed in with drug dealers, Russians, and hired killers, the story moves quickly and is well told. A good afternoon read for sure.
I am a hugs DS fan, read all her books but one. Not sure why but this one was not a favorite, maybe too much out of the US and talk of Russia that I didn’t like / understand.
It almost seemed like it was DS writing the book, it felt very different to me.
