Sarah Alderson does it again. An absolutely cracker of a read. A fast paced thriller which kept me engrossed right until the end. The author's writing style is brilliant and draws you in right from the start.
Troubled Rose finds herself in a marriage with her perfect husband. Rich, handsome Ryan rescues Rose from her poor, broken background and she wants for nothing. But the cracks start showing and Rose begins to discover things about Ryan which show just what a psychopath he is. The story switches between the past and the present bringing both story lines together with a dramatic climax. It really is a gripping storyline, and if you have enjoyed the author's previous books then I doubt you will be disappointed by The Cabin in the Woods.
Highly recommend this one, and I look forward to her next book!

It's one of those books that keeps hooked and reading, a page turner you cannot stop reading.
Gripping and well plotted, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

A page turner! How did Rose end up in the creaky cabin in the woods, with things hung in the trees so that she'll hear someone approaching? And why is she there? This goes back and forth in time to tell her story- the story of a woman who thought she had it all when she married Ryan, a wealthy man, and then had a beautiful baby girl,Siena. But not all was well, especially after she struggled post partum and Ryan's behavior began to reveal a side of him she had ignored. No spoilers from me but know that Alderson has written the sort of novel you'll read in a day because you want to know what happens. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Perfect for travel or the beach.

Rose Reid is missing. It gives you two time lines past and present. I love seeing the bond between Rose and Daisy. Each girl has their own inner demons they face daily.Rose gets married to Ryan and believes she has met her Prince Charming.

Ryan isn’t who Rose thinks he is. She will learn this the hard way. Good thing Rose is one resourceful person and can survive.

A digital ARC of this book was provided to me by NetGalley, Avon Books UK, Avon. The opinions are my own and freely given.

⚠️Themes of drug addiction, child abuse and neglect, postpartum depression, and suicide⚠️

Told from Rose's POV from 2 different timelines, PRESENT and PAST. The Past is Rose's childhood growing up in a trailer park with drug addicted parents and Present when she is hiding in a cabin in the woods. We don't know at first who she is hiding from, but she is very cautious to keep anyone away. There isn't electric and barely a trickle of freezing water in the cabin, but she makes do. She treks across the lake in a kayak to the local grocery store to buy supplies and there she meets Gwen, the shop owner. Her past shows her to be vulnerable until she meets her husband, rich and charming, and then her life changes. I could not put this book down. I was constantly wondering what is going to happen, why is she in hiding, how does she have no one to trust. Thank you NetGalley, Avon Books UK, Avon and Sarah Alderson!!

Wow this one packs more than a punch… it’s a wallop.
Twists and turns to the extreme. This one had me biting my nails, stomach clenched. The story that comes to light is both sad and terrifying. The characters were impeccable. The story flowed. This was a rollercoaster of terror! An absolute must read.

The Cabin in the Woods is a tense and unputdownable psychological thriller.

This thriller unfolds the mystery of how Rose Reid went from an impoverished upbringing to being a wealthy socialite to now hiding in an abandoned cabin in the woods.

Since each chapter reveals a little more of Rose’s life in the past and present, it’s probably best not to know much more than that going in. The chapters are super short, making this a quick, suspenseful, and edge-of-your-seat kind of read.

Some may find it a little over-the-top, but it does make for a highly compelling story. Initially, I was slightly disappointed with one of the big reveals because it’s fairly common in thrillers these days. But the author did an incredible job of keeping the momentum going.

Thank you to Avon for providing me with an arc via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

One of the scariest yet most fascinating novels I’ve gotten the chance to read recently! Suffice it to say, I will never consider a cabin retreat in the woods as a good vacation option!

this was 100% not what i expected and that was so refreshing. I was team Rose the entire time and the way the story slowly came to light was soo impressive. This book had so many minor story lines that just slowly get exposed and understood. EXCELLENT book. everyone needs to read this if they are into psychological thrillers

The Cabin in the Woods is what I would put in the bracket of a low thriller/mystery novel. It’s tense at times, but it takes a while to know why, which takes it a little away from a traditional thriller vibe for me.

The aforementioned cabin in the title is more of a backdrop than it is a thematic location.
Using the chapter to chapter switch up; we go from current day, back to moments of the past(starting from childhood and working forward) until both timelines synchronise.

The writing style and to an extent, the premise gave me Verity vibes so I think it would appeal to fans of that genre.
The book felt well researched and with mixing it up, kept it interesting. I enjoyed the book but I wasn’t wowed by it.

I rate it 4.25. This is 1st book of Sarah Alderson’s that I’ve read. It is a slow burner in the beginning. Although I quite liked the flip back and forth of it, I just about tolerated the nagging unknown feeling of what is the catch, what is going on. Then it sped up suddenly just as we reach halfway point of the book, I probably read the second half of the book in a day. I think I would have got there faster if I wasn’t jet lagged from my recent holiday, hence rendering me too exhausted to read in the evening after children gone to sleep. I am looking forward to reading her other works, I’m pleased to have found this author.

4 stars

Sarah Alderson does not disappoint in this newest thriller (which can also be called women's fiction, since I'm starting to believe that these unfortunate circumstances that so many women experience in thrillers are much more common than I'd hope).

Rose, the m.c., has a particularly difficult childhood, and her memories of the specific circumstances surrounding her upbringing help readers immediately want to root for her. She has experienced no real displays of love or even basic caretaking, and between the need to be scrappy for her own survival and her intense feelings of responsibility for her younger sister, Daisy, it's no surprise that Rose enters adulthood with overweight baggage. She undoubtedly pays some hefty fees for that. When Rose meets Ryan one night, she quickly gets caught up in a fairy tale that takes a turn or two.

For me, this is a really balanced read. The movement between various past times and the present keeps the narrative flowing, and the ways in which the important information gets disseminated help readers stay engaged and understand various characters' motivations. One aspect that I particularly enjoy here is that there is fairly limited processing. Something bad happens or comes to light, and the characters react but do not spend forever thinking about why and how; there's more motive to survive than therapize, and I find this a refreshing approach in relation to what I have been reading in this genre lately. The small point of frustration is that there are some convenient situations that seem extremely implausible at times, but honestly, this is often half the fun of a thriller: towing that line between creeping suspense and burgeoning smirks.

Overall, I enjoyed this read and found the ending particularly satisfying not necessarily because of the actual outcomes but because of the ways in which they unfold. I remain an Alderson fan and eagerly anticipate what comes up next.

I love books that end as they should.
Written between past and present and easy to follow along.
Flowed wonderful I to the story with characters that you begin to feel for and love.
Great book.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

I do always love a thriller with a remote and isolated setting, so of course I was intrigued by The Cabin In The Woods as soon as I first heard about it. The blurb doesn't give away much about the plot, but I think that this only benefits the development of the suspense and the impact of the plot twist reveals... And while there wasn't as much of the cabin setting as I thought there would be and parts were a tad slow, as a whole The Cabin In The Woods turned out to be a more than satisfying psychological thriller.

I'm going to keep this review short both to avoid spoilers and to enable those who haven't read this story yet to jump in blind and have the same reading experience I had. Because The Cabin In The Woods ended up having so much more impact by not knowing exactly what the story would be about or what to expect! I most definitely didn't see those reveals coming about the main character's husband or how she ended up being in the situation she is in now, and between the plot twists and secrets you are kept plenty busy. Trigger warnings are in place though for topics such as addiction, drug abuse, child abuse, rape, mental health and grooming... This story packs a punch, and it's without doubt on the darker side of psychological thriller.

As for the characters... I wasn't sure what to make of the main character Rose to be honest. There were moments where I rooted for her and moments where I was mostly annoyed with her, and as a whole my reactions were a bit of a mixed bag. I do think her story is very well portrayed and the flashbacks to the past are cleverly placed for maximum impact of the plot twists. Some flashback chapters were a bit slow though... And certain elements could have been developed more. I never liked her husband Ryan, but then again he does play his part very well. The secondary characters were actually more interesting than Rose (Isabel and Gwen especially!), but they did lack more fleshing out.

As a whole The Cabin In The Woods turned out to be quite an intense and darker psychological thriller that reveals to be so much more than just a woman hiding in a remote cabin in a forest... Make sure to go in blind if you want to feel the full force of those plot twist reveals and secrets the different characters are hiding!

This was such a page turner. I love that it is written in past and present. Eventually the two timelines come together. So well done, and suspenseful.

A woman, Rose, is hiding in the cabin and you don't know why. Told through her POV. I was really on edge during the present time. That part can get pretty intense, I loved it! I'm not going to say more because I feel like you'll enjoy it more, the less you know.

This is one I'd highly recommend if you like thrillers. I like that it was fast paced, I flew through it!

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own!

Admittedly I'm not a fan of books split between past and present, but this worked fine. It had its tense moments, the characters seemed believable enough to me. I would recommend it to those who, just like me, enjoy atmospheric settings in thrillers.

A psychological thriller, I loved the authors previous book the stalker, so I was really keen to read this one. This one is even better 😍

A woman is hiding in an old cabin in the woods, we don’t know the reason. We discover her name is Rose Reid.

The story is told in the first person using a past and present narrative. The past really tugs on your emotions.
The present has a really tense vibe which builds and builds, at one point I was literally holding my breath. The time frames get closer together until they merge. It’s cleverly constructed.

I absolutely loved it. The plot is intricately woven, it felt believable. It kept me totally engaged throughout.

There’s characters to both love and hate. I was always rooting for Rose, there are some early emotional scenes which really get you on board with her.

This one well deserves it’s place in my books of the year. Look out for it, you won’t be disappointed.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book.
What a page turner, I couldn’t put it down. This fast paced tense story is told in a dual timeline, the present and the past through the main character of Rose, who is hiding out in a cabin in the woods.

I was gripped from start to finish. The descriptive writing had you on the edge of your seat and engaged with every word, with plenty of twists and turns throughout. The characterisation is brilliant, you feel everything Rose does. The paranoia, anxiety, helplessness, tension and fear is real. You root for her and those that help her too.
Sarah Anderson is a new author to me and I look forward to her next read. If you enjoy reading fast paced, suspenseful thrillers then this book is for you. I highly recommend it. It’s twisty and clever!

While this was a page turner with plenty of drama, I did find it to be a little boring. I liked the back & forth between the present day & Rose’s past - showing us her childhood and her life as an adult. The drama at times feels a bit far-fetched, but there are times when it felt entirely realistic. I loved the ending, especially the last few confrontations Rose has - I had a big grin on my face when I was reading those last few chapters! However, with the title The Cabin in the Woods, I was expecting something a little creepier instead of domestic drama - the title is so ominous sounding, but it never really lived up to that expectation.

This book was a real page turner! It was a fast read that kept my interest the whole time. I liked it how it flashed between past and present to tell the story of Rose’s life and relationship with Ryan. I don’t know if I would call this a thriller though. Rose was a well developed character and the story was really engaging. My only criticism would be that the cover and title don’t really match the type of story it is. They make it seem like a horror/thriller story. I highly recommend this book!
