❗️TW: difficult/neglected upbringings, drug abuse, rapists/sexual abuse, domestic violence
This was so so good! I was kind of expecting something like a horror from the blurb but it turned out to be an amazing psychological thriller
It follows the story of Rose Reid who went from being a poor child living in a trailer with her drug addicted parents, to becoming a wife of an aspiring attorney and having a daughter together. Her perfect family after what she’s been through and her husband being her knight in shining armour, until a truth is revealed to Rose and she is forced to go on the run and ends up in a stranded cabin in the woods to enable her survival. The story’s told through Rose’s POV and chapters alternate between past and present timelines
It’s such a fast paced and suspenseful book, and it’d be so good as a film as well! The TW themes run heavy throughout the book but there was a happy ending and people definitely got what they deserved. Nearly every plan made throughout the story was foiled so I couldn’t guess how she was going to get out of some situations. But this was a really enjoyable quick read and I highly recommend it!

Good tense read with suspense
Intrigue to begin with then the lead character finds out about her husband and reflects on their Relationship with. New understanding ..
No twists as such but a story of abuse and escape with a determined survivor who grew as we turn the pages
This is the first book that I've read by Sarah Alderson but it certainly won't be the last.
I really could not put this book down. It truly had me gripped from start to finish.
There were some really well written characters and I liked the way that we found out exactly what was happening and why.
It was also particularly fast paced with a lot of great suspense.
I adored the ending too.
I can't wait to see what Sarah writes next and I will be going back and checking out some of her back catalogue immediately.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rose is hiding in a cabin in the woods, she is being hunted because of something that she did. We slowly find out the facts that led to this situation and why Rose is on the run from the authorities.
It took me a while to get into this story but once I did I found that I couldn’t put the book down.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Absolutely brilliant and clever book. Very hard to put down. I would definitely recommend this one.
Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books for the Advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This story is told in dual timeline. The current timeline follows Rose as she is living in the cabin in the woods trying to avoid society and her past. The other timeline follows previous events that have happened over the past several years that have led to this point in her life. The book reveals the details layer by layer to pull the story all together.

Buckle up because you are in for a ride. This is my first book by Sarah Alderson and it will definitely not be my last. I loved how unique this storyline was and how much development the characters go through in the novel. The story was fast paced and I never wanted to put it down because it was just that good. Every time I would think that the ending was close, there would be another twist that I didn’t see coming and Alderson made the MC, Rose, so likable that you are rooting for her the entire book. There were so many times that I felt like my heart was either going to stop or burst out of my chest! I cannot recommend this book enough and would highly recommend it to people who enjoy fast paced thrillers with unexpected outcomes!
This review will be posted to my Instagram blog (read_betweenthecovers) in the near future!
Sarah Alderson is a new author for me. Although Cabin In the Woods is my first read from this author, it won’t be my last! More than an intriguing psychological story, it is an edge-of-the-seat, page-flipping, stay-up-all- night, heart- racing suspense thriller!!!! Addicting! Riveting! Explosive!
I haven’t been captivated by a storyline like this in a very long time! ⭐️WOW⭐️ 🙌 WOOHOO🙌 .
Ms. Alderson’s writer’s craft is flawless!
Execution- Alternating the narration between several different timelines is unique and ratchets up the suspense! Outstanding imagery and word choice!
Pacing- Details of the mystery are peeled back like an onion- layer by layer, without slowing the pacing. It is a fast and furious ride! Twists and turns of this roller coaster are absolutely and superbly believable - no suspension of disbelief necessary!
Climax is fantastically exhilarating and the denouement is more than satisfying!
Characterization- Strong emotions are created by the author’s outstanding skill in developing dynamic and multi dimensional characters. Readers connect and sympathize with the protagonist. The antagonist’s actions evoke strong emotions at the opposite end of the compassion spectrum!
This reviewer is using a lot of superlatives because this novel is superior to many in this genre. Propelling the novel to a 5 star rating is the thematic themes that are addressed: legal system corruption, political corruption, emotional domestic abuse, sociopathic behavior, women’s autonomy, poverty, recognizing and “ seeing” the needs in others and caring for them.
Bravo 👏, Sarah Alderson! I’m so glad I found you! My thanks to you,the publisher and NetGalley for a complimentary ARC in exchange for an honest review. It was a pleasure!
Absolutely loved this book - usually I find myself guessing the endings of thrillers (not to toot my own horn, of course) but this one kept me on my toes throughout the novel. I adored and respected the MC and found myself rooting for her even when I wasn't sure I should be. Well done!
This was a fast paced and engaging thriller that I finished in one sitting. It centers on Rose, who we know initially is on the run, but details leading her to that point are uncovered as the book continues. The book alternates between past and current timelines to pull the story together.
Rose is a likable and relatable character who is fiercely driven by survival instincts and a need to do the right thing. Though some of the events that happened in the book were a little far-fetched, for the most part the decisions she made felt real and believable. The book moves at a fast clip the whole way through and the ending was satisfying.
Overall, this is a great book and I’d recommend it to those who like thrillers and mysteries. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A book delicious in its level of drama and only topped by its wonderful high stakes of revenge.
How far would you go to get to the truth? How far would you go to avenge a wrong.. How deep is your red hot need for revenge?.
This book was amazing. The writing was so well done and thought out and the twists and turns kept me guessing. Told in duel time frames from the present and the past you get a picture of the main character as a whole who she is, what shes been through and more importantly what shes running from. There were moments I thought i new where the story was going and at times i was heartbroken by the twists and at others fist pounding in the air when things took a devilish turn.
I cant recommend this book enough. If you love a good mystery with twists and turns and any domestic thrillers i would highly suggest you check this gem out when it becomes available for purchase. July 7th 2022.
This enjoyable little thriller ended up exceeding all my expectations. You could tell from the first page that it was going to be fast-paced with a strong lead character. The lead character Rose was both likeable and mysterious and this is what pulled me in. There was plenty of suspense and also a nod to how the world is today, with a good level of social commentary. I thoroughly enjoyed this. If you’re a fan of thrillers with a strong female lead and plenty of surprises this is for you.
Having enjoyed this author’s previous books, I was looking forward to this one and it didn’t disappoint.
Married to wealthy and charismatic Ryan Reid, Rose has everything she ever wished for. So she is devastated when she realises that her husband has been manipulating her for years. Finding herself locked up in a psychiatric facility she is determined to reveal to the world just what kind of man is his. Can Rose survive Ryan’s constant onslaught of lies and survive to tell the tale?
A suspenseful and gritty thriller which will keep you guessing until the end.
Wow what a book. Loved it ! Full of twists and tension . I read it in one go . Fantastic writing and I loved the dual timeline.
First time reading anything by the author , I'll definitely keep an eye out for more of her books.
The Cabin in the Woods
By Sarah Alderson
Release Date 10/18/2022
In a cabin in the woods,
A woman by the window stood.
Glancing out, she thought she heard
Footsteps, whistling, something stirred.
Hiding here, she fears the night,
For what’s done in the dark will come to light.
She must run fast to escape her lie
Or she’ll be the next to die....
This book. Wow. What a fast paced thriller read. I love a strong women character in a book, and while it takes Rose a bit to find her backbone - when she does, just wow.
Running from her well-connected political husband, Ryan has controlled her from the start. When she finds out who he is, she knows she has to get away.
Find out who wins this cat and mouse book. Told from past and present POV you won’t be able to put it down

Author Sarah Alderson wrote The Cabin in the Woods. This novel has kept me intrigued the entire time. It is a fast-paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat, and the author does a brilliant job of switching between the past and present.
Two young girls, Rose, aged six, and Daisy, three respectively, were born and raised by drug-addicted parents. They live in a trailer and often hide in the closet to escape their abusive father. It is not uncommon for the girls to steal from the local store to eat. Rose is fearful if they get caught, they might separate the two of them and end up in foster care.
Several years later, Rose worked as a waitress when she met Ryan Reid, whom she thought was the man of her dreams because he was successful, handsome, wealthy, and charming. On the contrary, Ryan was a cruel, manipulative monster. Like her parents before her, Daisy struggles with drug addiction and is constantly in and out of rehab facilities.
The Cabin in the Woods is one of those novels everyone should have in their collection. The book’s well written and edited, and without a doubt recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspense thrillers. Five out of five stars is a definite rating for this novel.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the opportunity to read and review this book. Congratulations!
When we meet Rose Reid, she is hiding out in an isolated and long-uninhabited cabin in the woods. We know she’s on the run from something, but we don’t know what caused her to flee. Whatever it is, it’s BAD.
What follows is a deft back-and-forth between past and present – a nonlinear rags-to-riches tale that take us sometimes as far back as Rose’s childhood, sometimes only a month prior, and sometimes in between. This can be tough to do well, but Sarah Alderson pulls it off absolutely flawlessly. It’s a twisty wild ride that held my attention all the way through. The ending was a total surprise (and trust me, I always try to guess!) and extremely satisfying. Fans of psychological will want to add this one to their to-read list.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for providing me an advance copy of this book.
Something about this book was immensely readable and I finished it in an evening, without putting it down. I found myself really rooting for the protagonist. The setting, a deserted cabin is appeaing and the plot has many enjoyable twists.
2.5 stars ⭐️⭐️💫
(TW: child death)
Rose is on the run, hiding out in a cabin in the woods. She’s altered her appearance and is avoiding people at all costs… Who is Rose hiding from? What did she do?
This book is told in the present and the past. The present is mostly just Rose hiding out in the cabin, hearing a lot of sounds, trying not to be found (kind of boring). The past is more interesting as we learn about who Rose is and why she is holed up in the cabin. Eventually they merge. The ending is fine. 🤷♀️. This one fell flat for me.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
I thought this was just okay. Based on the title, I expected something completely creepy and different. I’m a huge fan of the ‘cabin in the woods’ type of story and that tagline on the cover had me so excited. It ended up being a pretty generic thriller with the same ‘ol tropes I’ve read and watched countless times. I kept hoping the book would take a turn but the next thing I know the book was over. I did enjoy the way the story is delivered with dual timelines bouncing between past and present. I think people who like tamer thrillers or are new to the genre might enjoy this but it’s nothing I would rush to recommend.
I loved this book, loved the intruige and suspense. With a setting in a lonely cabin in present day Rose is injured and in hiding, but we have no idea why. The story then works backwards and slowly gives the reader the reasoning behind her fear.
Very well written, keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. I enjoyed The Stalker but I think this is my favourite so far
