In this modern ‘rags to riches’ story that turns in on itself, we meet Rose Reid who is hiding in an isolated cabin in the woods somewhere. With no electricity or running water and nursing severe injuries from a car crash, things are looking bad for Rose. But how did it come to this when her previous life, with her meteoric rise from dysfunctional childhood to wealthy socialite, had been so promising? I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to uncover the intimate reasons why Rose had become a runaway. A highly recommended read for all who enjoy fast-paced thrillers with strong characterisation. Thank you to NetGalley and to the publishers for the free ARC that I received in exchange for this unbiased book review.

"The Cabin in the Woods" by Sarah Alderson hooked me from the very first page and kept me turning till the finale. It's a quick read because I was so hooked I didn't want to put it down. I liked that the book wasn't weighed down with anything unnecessary, the author kept the story moving and flowing well with the past and present intertwined. This is an absolute recommend to thriller lovers like myself!

I loved this fast paced story and the characters. The characters were well thought out and I felt a connection to them even if k didn’t actually like them. The story unfolds at a great pace and keeps you wanting more. I would definitely read more from this author as I absolutely loved the style of writing

This was a great novel by Sarah Alderson. I haven’t read her work before but will be finding more to read soon. This has some awesome characters, relatable, realistic and emotional. I loved the twists and turns, which kept me guessing until the very end.

Such a pleasant surprise! I went into this book blind, as I believe the author wants, and flew through this quick-paced thriller. I'll keep the synopsis brief - Rose Reid is hiding in a cabin in the woods when six months before she was living an extravagant life of wealth and glamour with a handsome husband. Learning to escape her childhood abandonment and poor upbringing, she has seemingly made the best of her life... so why is she hiding?

This book is bingeworthy and easy to finish in one sitting. I loved it! Thank you to Netgalley and Avon books for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have read this author’s other books and enjoyed them and I thought her latest book looked like a good read.

The story centres around Rose, who is on the run and hiding in a remote cabin. The chapters alternate between the present day and the years leading up to it. This allows the reader to understand more about Rose, and what has caused her to be on the run.
Rose had a really difficult childhood and was swept off her feet by a handsome and extremely wealthy man. They have a whirlwind romance and marry very quickly. She thinks her new life is great, but it’s evident her husband is controlling.
It’s hard to say too much about the plot without giving the story away.

The chapters are quite short which I found gave the book a good pace and kept me turning the pages!
I really warmed to Rose’s character and was rooting for her. It was a bit obvious that her husband was too good to be true and his character was a bit predicable I thought. He was still well done and so unlikeable.

The remote atmosphere and creepy woodland surrounding the cabin is well described and you really feel Rose’s fear.

The cover fits well with the story, yet is still appealing enough to make you pick it up.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and it held my interest. I wanted to keep reading and find out how the story was going to pan out.
The end was fitting but I found it a bit cliche and convenient.

I would recommend this book and think it’s my favourite book from this author so far.

3.5 stars rounded to 4.

So often the synopsis gives too much away, but thankfully that is not the case with this one. A woman is hiding out in a remote cabin in the woods with no electricity and no phone. Who is she hiding from and why?

The Cabin in the Woods is the first book I've ready by Sarah Alderson, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the short chapters very satisfying, and the pacing was great as the tension built. I stayed up late reading which is always a good sign of how invested I am in a book. I just really liked the way the story unfolded. It is told in two timelines, the past moving forward and then present day, and both equally held my attention.

There are a few parts that will require the reader to suspend belief a bit, but just go into this one blind and enjoy the ride. I look forward to checking out some of her previous books. 4 stars.

The Cabin In The Woods by Sarah Alderson is a real page turner. I'll admit I was expecting something different because of the cover and this turned into more of a domestic suspense instead of an atmospheric, chilling thriller, but it was enjoyable. I liked Rose and I was intrigued to find out what she was running/hiding from. Recommend!

Fantastic!

I loved this one.

The Cabin in the Woods starts with Rose Reid, a woman, who had a hard childhood. She marries Ryan who is a lawyer. They meet in New York City but they move to Westchester after the wedding. She goes from being a waitress to becoming a socialite. Yet, in the present, Rose lives in a cabin in the woods without electricity.

What happened to Rose? Why is she hiding in a cabin? Who is she running from?

The Cabin in the Woods was a page-turner with a likable character and a good narrative. I was happy to follow both timelines, learning more about Rose, her sister Daisy, and why Rose was alone in the present.

I need to go back and add to my TBR any other books Sarah Alderson has written. Now that I know I enjoyed her writing, I can't wait to read/listen to her other books.

Cliffhanger: No

5/5 Fangs

This was a fast-paced read but ultimately I felt a few things were a bit too much of a stretch to be believable. The ride was soapy, twisty, and compelling but the ending was a bit too tidy and convenient in certain ways. I also found certain characters a bit too one-dimensional. But all that said, it did keep me turning the pages!

I have always had a pipe dream about living in a log cabin on the shore of a lake, with a canoe at the door. This description was brought to life in this book, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It certainly had its fair share if drama and mystery.
Well written and very well plotted. I loved it.

This one had great potential but it didn’t really get there and when it upped the anti at the last 1/4 it just wasn’t enough which was such a pity as I was invested. It was just far to slow paced for 3/4’s of the book and I found it just went through the paces without actually giving up anything. It didn’t get to the nitty gritty till the end and even then it didn’t deliver and was far to rushed to give you what you needed. It seemed to skirt around the plot far to much that I think it could have really got interesting if it had just delved in. I loved Rose as a character and I really rooted for her but I really needed more. It was just ok but I think it could have been great if there was a little more substance.

Excellent thriller that keeps your heart pounding and your eyes moving as you race through it as you have to read it as quickly as possible. Perfect use of past and present gives us insight into why a woman is hiding out in a remote cabin and we are almost as afraid for her as she is for herself. Great characters make great books. And great stories makes five stars.

Another heart pounding thriller! The story was fast-paced and full of emotion and I couldn't get enough. A mother's quest for justice and her vigilance to get to the truth. Unpacking the years of trauma and trying to right some wrongs along the way. Loved every minute of it.

Thank you Netgalley for this arc
