This is a brilliant book that I’d highly recommend.
I’m not sure that the title does the book justice as Rose’s stay in the cabin in the woods is a small part of the story.
Rose meets Ryan while she’s working as a waitress as a student. Their relationship takes off very fast and they’re soon married.
Ryan is very wealthy and likes things his own way but this doesn’t become clear to Rose until later in their marriage.
I won’t go into too much detail as you need to see how the story develops and how Rose reacts.
This is a great read that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Avon Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I’m such a huge fan of Sarah Alderson and love the fact that I can never predict what she will come up with next! The Cabin in the Woods is set in the USA and teases the reader from the start by not telling them exactly what has happened but hinting at an horrific crime. Hiding out in a remote cabin is a woman fearing discovery and jumping at every little noise. Who is Rose Reid and what has happened to her to make her the suspicious, terrified woman hiding away? We gradually come to find out as we see Rose as a child and how she goes from rags to riches to….well, this!
It took me a while to get into the storyline initially but I quickly became gripped by the intensity of the emotional tension. Highly enjoyable with a few unexpected twists and turns along the way.

Sarah Alderson is fast becoming a must read for me. The Cabin in the Woods is the second book of hers I’ve read this year, and I am hungry for more.

Rose, a daughter of drug addicts, sees her life change drastically once she weds Ryan Reid, a billionaire who is planning to run for the governorship of New York. But we soon realize her life hasn’t changed for the better and in fact has become a terrible nightmare.

First we see Rose living in an abandoned cabin in the woods and it is obvious she has escaped from something traumatic. Told from two different time lines, we learn about Rose’s past and follow along with her life present day. This is a quick paced thriller and totally unputdownable. I was on the edge of my seat and finished this one in a day. The ending was completely satisfying as well. If you love thrillers you will definitely enjoy this one.

Note: this book can be triggering to some as there are themes of sexual assault and rape.

Reading Between the Wines book review #56/135 for 2022:
Rating: 4 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 📱: The Cabin in the Woods
Author: Sarah Alderson
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASES July 7, 2022!!! Get your copy today!

Sipping thoughts: This is my 3rd book by Sarah Alderson in just one year. I loved all 3. She has a way that she writes that makes you want more, makes you think you have it all figured out but then make small reveals/twists that don’t make you think where in the world did that come from.

Cabin in the Woods had me on the edge of my seat. What I loved most about this book was that the blurb is so vague that you go in not knowing what to think or expect. The main protagonist made me SO mad a lot of times in this book by her actions, but I could not help to root for her. I could not wait for the bad guy to get what was coming to them! I can actually see myself clapping when that finally happened if this gets turned into a movie (just like her book The Weekend Away-on Netflix-read then watch, it was great!).
I am waiting with bated breath to see if anyone will make The Stalker into a movie, my favorite from Alderson so far. In the meantime, grab this book and get to reading, it is worth it!

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @sarahaldersonauthor @AvonBooksUK and @Avon for an advance copy of @TheCabinInTheWoods.

The Cabin in the Woods is the story of Rose Reid - flashing between the present day, where she is hiding away in a deserted cabin in the woods, injured and terrified of being found - and her past, beginning with her troubled and impoverished childhood growing up with a drug-addicted father and her younger sister.

The story builds up slowly, with many twists and turns. Rose’s fortunes seem to change when she meets the rich and charming Ryan and marries him - but things take a downward turn when her mental health begins to suffer.

What follows is an intense rollercoaster of events as we slowly discover what happened in the months and days leading up to Rose’s arrival at the cabin and exactly what she has been hiding from.

This was an impressive psychological thriller, with a satisfying ending. It was just missing that indescribable ‘wow’ factor for me which is why I’ve gone for 3.5 instead of a 4 or 5!

Rose grew up fending for herself, born into a family of addicts and later being raised by her grandfather after both parents overdosed. While she’s waitressing to put herself through college, handsome socialite Ryan Reid is seated at her table and sweeps her away. Rose’s world is rocked when she finds out the truth about her husband, which leads to murder and deceit in this fast paced, psychological thriller.

Told in alternating timelines, I finished this one in a day, unable to put it down until I knew all of the details between Rose and Ryan. I recommend this for anyone looking for a thriller that will leave them on the edge of their seat chapter after chapter.

Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the ARC in exchange for a fair review.

Wow! I devoured this domestic thriller in one sitting.I loved the twists and turns and the ending was the cherry on top!

Rose went from waitress to socialite practically over night when she meets wealthy, charismatic Ryan Reid.
A chance encounter at a party snaps Rose back into reality as she realizes this is not the fairytale life she thought it was. Ryan controlling nature and awful secrets are enough for her to spring into action and save her daughter and herself.
A car accident, a hospital stay, and time in a state mental hospital for criminals pushes Rose to the breaking point. Her only option is to run again and this time no one will ever find her.
The Cabin in the Woods is a chilling thrill-ride that will have you on the edge of your seat till the very end.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. And what a marvellous introduction it was! I couldn’t put it down.

I was little thrown at start by the 1st person narrative in present tense, but once I got my head around that, I couldn’t put it down! It was an absolute page turner! (Yes, I’m fussy with weird shit! 😂)

Rose, once a New York socialite is hiding away in a secluded cabin, injured and sacred. But why? There are so many wonderful layers to this, you can’t help but be intrigued and want to find out what, why and more…

The story is told in duel timelines - past and present - both equally compelling with flash backs to Rose’s troubling childhood.
There are so many secrets and twists revealed at a perfect pace. I was invested from the start in our protagonist Rose and felt a deep sympathy towards her. The strength and determination of a woman when faced with adversity was a stand out for me.

The story was splendid, it was a perfect, tension filled psychological thriller! So much excitement and unveiling as you read on, the author did a brilliant job with the storyline and plot. Another thriller I can highly recommend
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not the title I would have chosen for a book that covers so much more than the title implies, uninspiring imo
I found the initial chapters hard to ‘get into it’ but when the story started to fit together the story telling told in the present and in the past ran together really well and by 30% I was really into the book, the characters and what was happening, it does continue in the vein of finding out more and more as it progresses
A really fraught and tense story of mistrust, a psychopath abusing husband who everyone else think is wonderful and finally justice, and when it is served it is served well
I liked the main character and her back story was very moving and I was rooting for her to get the upper hand all the way through
The author always tells a good story and all told this again was another fine read

8/10
4 Stars

Enjoyed the writing style of this publication with each chapter being different and changing between present and past twenty two years apart. Main character Rose was a really strong character and the book was a real page turner which was finished within twenty four hours.

In a cabin in a wood,
A woman at the window stood.

Glancing out she thought she heard
Footsteps, whispering something stirred.

Hiding here, she fears the night,
For what's done in the dark will come to light.

She must run fast to escape her lie,
Or she will be the next to die.

Rose Reid lives in the middle of the woods in a rundown cabin. As the story progresses, we learn the events that lead to Rose hiding away. We learn of her rags to riches story. Rose is injured and hiding. But from What?

The story has a dual timeline that switches between the past and present day. This can be a heartbreaking read that's also twisty and thrilling. I was pulled into this book from the first few pages. I had no idea what to expect when I picked this book up. The more I found about Rose in the present day, I needed to know more about her past. This is an intriguing and gripping read. that I didn't want to put down.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #AvonBooksUK and the author #SarahAlderson for my ARC of #TheCabinInTheWoods in exchange for an honest review.

The Cabin in the woods is the story of Rose who never thought her life would turn out different.she was a waiter at a restaurant and having financial crisis when Ryan met her. After that, her life was full of luxury. He was a lawyer and a very popular person in public nevertheless at home he deeply loved Rose.During her wedding function her sister Daisy who takes drug and leading an obnoxious life appears and spoils their moment but still Ryan never left her side or treated her like a rag.
However Now she is living in a small cabin afraid of being caught, she don't have enough money to eat and treat the cuts on her hands.Living in that cabin listening for any noise of police she knows she committed real bad things. She doesn't know what happened to her heavenly life and where did her calculations go wrong???

My thoughts:

The story is very fast paced and easy to read.I read the book in 2 days i could easily flow through the book as it is written lightly and in a dual time line.As the story progresses we become more n more curious about what is happening .Rose is a trust-able narrative very sympathetic and naive. The first half of the story was very good but it was a letdown for me with second half.I loved the first plot twist and wanted the story to stick with it but again the author an another twist nevertheless the story was wrapped well.

Overall a suspense filled thriller with twist and turns. If you are a beginner you will be really shook.

This was a gripping and unputdownable thriller! The story sucked me right in and I couldn’t stop reading.

I loved Rose’s character and her backstory was tragic and intriguing. The alternating timelines helped show how she became who she was and it helped to tell the story in a way that I didn’t want to stop reading. The ending was highly satisfying and I’d recommend this awesome thriller to anyone!

Rose and her sister Daisy have a childhood filled with abuse and neglect leading to Daisy following the same path of addiction that her parents followed. Rose though managed to escape when she unexpectedly meets her future husband who whisks her off to a world of privilege and wealth. The perfect ending for Rose? Absolutely not! Her life spirals out of control leaving her running for her life.
This was the most gripping psychological thriller and I just couldn't put it down. It was so fast paced and breathtakingly addictive. One of the best books I've read in a long time. A definite must read

The Cabin in the Woods is a turn the pages as quickly as you can all while holding your breath for Rose as she hides out in the cabin type of read.

The book cleverly goes from past to present as Rose's story unfolds.

There are twists and turns along with red herring or too.

I cheered Rose on, I cried with her and I admired her.

This is only my second Sarah Alderson book shame on me so I am off to read a few more .

Get your copy, clear your schedule and hope no one disturbs you as you read The Cabin in the Woods.

Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK, Avon for a nail biting read.

When I saw that this author had a new book out, I knew that I had to read it right away! The Cabin in the Woods by Sarah Alderson is a gripping thriller that will appeal to anyone who loved Netflix's The Weekend Away, which was based on one of her books. The story revolves around Rose, who is presently hiding away in a cabin in the woods. Who is she hiding from? How did she get here?

Here is a chilling excerpt from the opening chapter:

"Someone is watching me. Like a deer with a gun trained on it, I freeze, the axe dangling from my hand, half-expecting to hear a shotgun blast ring out and to find myself flung forwards onto the frost-speckled ground.
My ears strain to catch the cock of a gun or the snap of a twig, but all I can hear is my own quick, shallow breathing and the hush of leaves in the highest branches of the trees. My senses are blaring a five-alarm warning that someone is out there, lurking in the forested dark, spying on me – but a voice in my head tells me that I’m being paranoid."

Overall, The Cabin in the Woods is an unputdownable thriller that will appeal to fans of Behind Closed Doors or Rock Paper Scissors. One highlight of this book is the mysterious locale. I love when thrillers are set in a strange or scary setting. If i had to complain about 1 thing, I would say that I wish more of the story had taken place in the cabin. Nevertheless, after reading her previous book, The Stalker, which terrified me, I will read anything by this author. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in July!

Wow! Definitely a emotionally charged psychological thriller with many dark suspenseful moments!
The main character, Rose, did not have a easy childhood. As a adult, her life is not much easier. Then she meets a wonderful man who changes everything for her. Finally she can find peace and happiness. Until…..she doesn’t.
The story is told in two timelines of past and present.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read and review this book for my honest opinion,

Really enjoyed this page turner! With the alternating timeline I really didn't see some of those twists coming. A great cast of main and supporting characters with Rose really drawing me in. I was invested straight from the get go. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out how it all would end. Both heartbreaking and fierce. Loved it!

I’d like to thank Avon Books UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Cabin In The Woods’ written by Sarah Alderson in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Rose is hiding in a secluded cabin in an upstate New York forest where she’s changed her appearance and is avoiding people. On the rare occasion she ventures into a store she catches sight of her photograph in a newspaper and knows without any doubt that her husband Ryan Reid is searching for her and the reward he’s offering is enough to entice someone to phone him with her whereabouts. Rose is so longer safe and must decide on her next course of action.

Yet again Sarah Alderson has written a psychological thriller with a compelling storyline that’s tense and disturbing. It starts twenty-two years ago when Rose and her younger sister Daisy are living with their drug addict father, and the time frame gradually moves from then to the present time. The story is chilling as Rose is kept locked away living in fear that she’ll never be allowed out, and the plot has so much suspense with an abundance of twists and turns that I couldn’t stop reading and was glued to my Kindle the whole day. I like the characters of Rose and Isabel, with Gwen and Jake adding greatly to the story, and Ryan Reid comes across as a wicked and evil individual who thinks he can literally get away with murder due to the people he knows. This is an exceptionally exciting thriller that’s action-packed, gripping, totally mind-blowing, easy to read and impossible to put down. I can highly recommend it!

This was a solid thriller. Honestly, it felt like an homage to the ACAB movement - cops are absolutely horrific in this book. Though, to be fair, so are most doctors and orderlies. But I digress. The book is told through the present with flashes back to the past, so you're kept on your toes as you don't know how far back the narrator will go, and she drops clues in her thoughts in the present that make you think, "oh, so THAT happened" but she pulled a little sneaky on you and it didn't happen like that.

Through flashbacks, we learn that Rose was raised in the most hellish environment you can imagine. Her mother is dead of an overdose, her father was an addict, and she was in charge of her sister. They were starving, they were dirty, and no one helped them. Rose didn't want to get them reported to social services because she was afraid of being separated from Daisy, her younger sister, so she did the best she can.

In the present, we only know that Rose is absolutely terrified of being seen by anyone. She has to choose between starvation and the threat of being recognized. We know that her face is on the front page of the New York Times, that there is a search for her, and that she is a socialist. She realizes she has gone from rags to riches and back again, and seems to think this is a fitting punishment for what she's done.

From there on, it's just one reveal after another. I thought that this was going to be the typical "rich husband abuses wife so she's on the run" book but it was WAY more than that. It got crazy. It gives you insight into all that money and fame can do for someone, and how hard it is to survive when you have none of that, and how easy it is to get used to it. I only took one star off because there was one thing that was said that I took serious issue with - I don't want to spoil it, but it was a reason Rose doesn't deserve what's happening to her. Also, everything got way too wrapped up in the end. I know some people like that, and sometimes I do, too, but it reminded me of Liane Moriarty - I just finished Apples Never Fall and everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, that was mentioned ended up being a part of the ending and it's too much. It's like the author is showing off. You keep thinking the book is going to end, but then some other thing is revealed and we have to go over how that happened and it gets tiresome. However, this is my first book by this author and will definitely not be my last.
