good book if you need help with starting the keto diet. Solid advice and some good recopies are included.
21-Day Keto Magic by Dr. Michael Mosley is a comprehensive and easy-to-follow guide to the transformative power of the ketogenic diet, offering rapid weight loss, long-term health benefits, and mouthwatering recipes for a successful journey to ketosis.
After many attempts at dieting, I enjoyed this read on how to make keto actually work for you. Many books are too long and drawn out this one got to the point to actually make it work. I liked also how it was easy to understand and not too technical despite Dr. Mosley being a doctor.
It took a while to get to the recipes but it was nice understanding why this lifestyke change works. Recipes were good.
Simple, clear guidance updated for the current research. A much more reasonable and realistic approach to keto.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I was interested in what Keto is but after finding out how little you can eat I think it is a very dangerous approach to eating healthy.
Very informative and filled with personal stories.
Just not the book for me.
3 stars
THIS IS A DANGEROUS BOOK!
I thought this book would be good because I am looking to lose around 20 pounds and I know the best way is slow and steady but I was tempted when I saw this book that promised weight loss in 21-days. I never imagined that it would encourage eating "between 800-900 calories a day for anything up to 12 weeks". Yep, he explains the science of a keto-diet but the way he does it seems dangerous. The diet definitely doesn't seem like one you can stay on for good. (To be fair I believe he even says that). This diet is only good for people looking to shred a lot of weight for the summer and then pack it back on in the winter.
I tried to reason with myself and be on his side because he sounds very educated when he is telling you the information and again to be fair a lot of what he says is backed up by science, but once I read about only eating 800-900 calories for 12 weeks I couldn't stand by him anymore. I was seriously considering this diet if he said to do it for only 1-2 weeks, but I can't imagine anyone with a 9 to 5 job being able to live off of 800-900 calories a day for up to 12 weeks. ANYONE WHO FOLLOWS THIS DIET NEEDS TO USE EXTREME PRECAUTION!
(I find it funny that it isn't until the very last chapter of the book that he says "non-starchy veg[etables] don't count as calories. That is the only thing that would make this diet doable. Maybe talk about that more before encouraging people to halve the recommended daily calories (2000). He makes the most sense once he talks like that.)
I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I thought the book 21-Day Keto Magic: Eat Healthy, Burn Fat, Lose Weight, and Keep It Off made a lot of sense. It sort of reminded me of combination between Keto and JUDD. I thought the scientific explanations were easy to understand and think this might be a died I could follow. I appreciate NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy.

I have been on keto for several years now and working from home has caused me to be around too much food so I needed a kick start. Most of the information is not new but good information for someone new to keto. I did learn that maybe part of my problem is that I am not counting calories as well as carbs.
Only thing that I really wished was that the suggested keto shakes would be available here in the US but when I went to the website, they are only delivering to the UK.
Good basis for starting on the keto way of life and I liked the meal options at the end with recipes.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.
Truly excellent book, so informational.
This isn't really a keto book. I think the author is capitalizing on the popularity of keto but his plan really warps what keto is all about. Dr. Mosley's plan is an extremely low calorie keto-ish diet plan that warps into a Mediterranean diet plan by week three. He allows foods that are not at all keto and he proposes strict calorie counting -- 800 calories a day for the first week. That is the antithesis of what good keto involves. The recipes in the second half of the book don't even contain macros for fats. How can you have "keto" recipes and not give the fat content of them? They just list calories and carbs (which are often far higher than true keto would actually allow), without fats or fiber or net carbs listed.
I'm sure this book will result in rapid weight loss because you're eating so little for so long, and I'm sure it's ultimately healthy enough because the extreme diet portion is short and a Mediterranean diet is very healthy. But it's not keto. It may still be a book that's a good fit for you if that sounds like the sort of diet plan you're looking for.
I read a digital ARC of this book for review.
I received this book as an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This book was very informative and simply broken down. As someone currently doing keto I think it is a fabulous resource.
Thank you NetGalley for the early addition of this book.
Dr. Mosley offers alot of great science to the Keto diet. He breaks down the eating guide with the science background that makes sense. Then provides the reader with a diet and guidelines that seem doable in todays world.
This is a targeted, brief, and direct introduction to a keto diet to lose weight. Those looking for a strong starting point will find a lot to like here: it includes the typical "why keto" explanations, why keto dieting works, the pitfalls, and then also a host of recipes to create a strong foundation.
This is an updated version with more tips based on research and feedback. I think that those looking for an introduction to keto and a way to get started have all that they need here without having to read an encyclopedia on the subject. For that reason, I do recommend it. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
very informative book, provides information on fat, the different types of diets. so much of the food we have now is processed food, high level of carbs, sugar, fats. it stresses the importance of eating protein and the level of protein to aim for. i like how there are mini stories of people and their experiences and the different experiments that was conducted through the years. there are meal plans at the back of the book as well. beware of snacking, how to reduce stress. recommend this book to those who are trying to learn how to eat better, what to avoid and the keto diet. i received this arc from NG and this is my voluntary review.
Very informative and filled with wonderful personal stories. It truly broke down Keto is such a way that it was understandable and relatable. The recipes are something I will definitely make on my own. I only wish the author would have gone into greater depth with the macros needed to successfully use his plan.
I devoured this book in one sitting. I loved that Mosely introduced scientific proof for us to up pur protein, cut put processed carbs, and reduce our calorie intake. I was intrigued by the starvation diet experiment of the 1940's. Had no idea they ate such a limited diet. This was a refreshing and inventive way at looking at weight loss. Highly recommend.
