Cat Wynn's debut novel Partner Track is a hilarious, spicy read. I laughed out lout a lot. The friendship between Perdie and Lucille was beautiful . And, of course, the romance is on fire.
PARTNER TRACK is a steamy rivals-to-lovers work place romances following Perdie and Carter. These two lawyers are snowed in together and forced to share an airport hotel room. After allowing herself to let loose and enjoy this time with the handsome (and insufferable) man, Perdie can’t stop thinking about their night together after she returns home. She’s pleasantly surprised when she bumps into him again, until she returns to work to find out that he was given the promotion that she deserved.

Do not be fooled by this cover— this book is *steamy.* I had such a good time reading this book. Carter is my latest fictional crush. I did enjoy their chemistry. I was frustrated with Perdie for awhile, but I was so relieved when Perdie decided to give therapy a try. Seeing her growth was nice. I loved the friendship between Perdie and Lucille— that aspect of found family always touches my heart. I’d very much like to read a book about Lucille and Noah! 🤞🏻
If you enjoy forced proximity, only-one-bed, and the snowed in trope you should definitely check this one out.

4.75/5 stars, PARTNER TRACK by Cat Wynn is available April 26, 2022. Thank you to Harlequin and Netgalley for sending me an eARC to review!

5/5
This was much spicier than I expected but it was still a really good read. It's fast-moving and engaging. Loved th one-bed trope.
This book is a must-read! Right off the bat you are thrust into the story and it doesn't slow down or stop. There was no waiting here and the plot goes really well with the changing characters. I was hooked from the start!
Perdie is a lawyer who meets and hooks up with Carter randomly, only to find out that he's the newest partner at her firm, stepping into the role she's been waiting for over the last few years. She is almost always undervalued, and I really felt her pain: this girl is smart and works way to hard to be treated like this.
And Carter...don't even get me started on our hero. He's smart, funny, and wants to be with Perdie well before she knows what she wants. But he's definitely not submissive either - his dirty talk is hot AF. The sex - AMAZING. This is definitely a super-steamy read, complete with masturbation scenes and hidden hookups at work. But what really made this work for me is that Carter is a well-rounded character. He doesn't just randomly whip out dirty talk. Instead, Wynn makes this a believable part of his personality. All of this put together makes for some insane chemistry!
Perdie's platonic relationship with her BFF Lucille was one of my favorites. The banter between them was so realistic that I loved reading just about them, even when Carter wasn't on the page. Seeing such a real female friendship on the pages of a romance novel was incredibly refreshing. Lucille was definitely a real character and contributed so much to the emotional landscape of the story!
Some of the best parts of this read:
"Only one bed" trope
Enemies to lovers but neither person is truly hateful
FUNNY dialogue and thoughts from Perdie's side
Super-steamy
Tons of dirty talk from the MMC that is dominant but never crosses the line
Older heroine
Lots of workplace hookups
A good amount of believable (and hot) jealousy
Overall, it was a fantastic read, especially for anyone who loves a lot of sexy times in the workplace. I would liken it to The Hating Game. I'll definitely be reading more of Cat Wynn in the future!
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
you are looking for a book that manages to get only one bed to occur within the first few chapters, PARTNER TRACK is book for you. It's also got rivals to lovers, workplace romance, a snowstorm, older woman / younger man, and great female friendship. An excellent list of tropes, in my opinion.
the prickly side, but I definitely consider that a plus. Carter is handsome and successful, and he isn't afraid to tell Perdie exactly how he feels. And while there is plenty of misogyny in this (law firm in the South ... unfortunately that is the case a lot), Carter fully supports Perdie in any way he can, especially when it comes to her job.
Practicing the law has never been sexier. A romance how romance should be. Utterly enthralling at every turn - Perdie and Carter are utterly captivating. While the romance feels rushed at times, and the law-setting very quickly dropped after the first chapter, this is a highly enjoyable read. I very much look forward to what Wynn has to write next.
Thank you to Carina and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
CW: sexual harassment, toxic workplace, death of an elderly pet, misogeny
While I really enjoy high steam books and enjoyed that this one almost immediately began with a bang, and really leaned into tropes, it ultimately disappointed. Carter quickly becomes Perdie's boss and the complexities of that relationship are brushed under the carpet. Perdie expresses a lot of fair concerns, notes she's not one for relationships and Carter bullies her into a relationship. He never changes and expect her to the entire time. His character unfortunately was very one dimensional, knowing he's very attractive and privileged and leaning into that. He rarely respected the boundaries she put up and manipulated her in a lot of ways.
Perdie was complex and honestly I felt bad for her. Her relationship with Carter was almost solely based on sex and her attraction to him, moments that could have built on the intimacy between the two didn't. There was a lot of miscommunication, jealousy and unhealthy aspects to the relationship. Carter came in to save her rather than build a relationship or a partnership. It also felt like Perdie did not understand her relationship with her best friend and maybe had true feelings laying there. Perdie did all of the work in this book and I wanted more for her. I can't even get into how toxic her conversation with Carter's mother was. A lot of red flags here and a lot of questions and things raised at the end that were never resolved.
Steam: 4
This was a fun read!
Carter & Perdie have a whirlwind of a relationship while also navigating the misogyny of a law office. There are ups and downs, misunderstandings and some crazy fun! Plus the spice is great!!
I loved the family dynamic Perdie has with her best friend/roommate Lucille and their shared dog Bananas. Plus, the added factor of the women banding together to help each other through the ups and downs of love relationships.
Great book!! It was such a hot and spicy read. Carter and Perdie had such high and sizzling chemistry. I loved how the book started and how the female lead was powerful and well opinionated. Carter was well HOT and swoony and uggghh so so good.
They both loved each other so much and that showed in their gestures and actions. Although I sometimes got frustrated by Perdie, I still understood her struggles and that end scene was amazing ❤️
Also, I live for jealousy and this book had some of my favourite jealous scenes. Lucille was a favourite and also, Bananas 😩 The book cracked me up but also made me emotional. Such a great read.
Hilarious, sexy, and heartwarming are the best way I could describe Partner Track.
The cover is mad cheesy (Cmon..you all could have done BETTER than this. It looks like my 6 year old drew it) but do not let it fool you. It is a very sexy story of Perdie and Carter, enemies to lovers, work rivals...it was so good. Cat Wynn really knocked this one out the park and the ending was satisfying enough that I wasnt left feeling like I didnt get closure wirh iether the main or secondary characters (I am sure we will have a book with Noah in it soon!)
You will love this book! The pacing is amazing, right off the bat you’re dropped into the story and it never stops or slows down. It’s refreshing to read a romance where the main character is 1. Pushing 40 years old, and 2. Older than her love interest.
Perdie and Carter’s chemistry is undeniable. Carter certainly has a way with words, and makes his intentions with our commitment-phobe leading lady.
These two lawyers meet and spend the night together after being stranded in a hotel after a trial (one bed trope!). The next thing Perdie knows, Carter is being introduced as the newest partner at her firm - effectively taking Perdie’s long-desired and well-deserved promotion.
Carter makes himself clear - they are not enemies, he wants to help her, and most importantly, he wants her.
This book was almost “enemies to lovers” but instead it took a different path that wasted no time getting to its point.
I would definitely recommend this fun, quick, and spicy read if you love the following tropes:
Coworker romance
Insta love
One bed trope
Grumpy/sunshine (she’s the grump)
You won’t regret giving this one a read.
Thank you to Cat Wynn, Carina Press & Carina Adores (Harlequin), and Netgalley for allowing me this read in exchange for my honest review.
Perdie is a fast-talking, smartass lawyer who's been constantly undervalued her entire life. Carter is a golden boy from a perfect family who's followed the golden-boy trajectory from law school to prestigious lawyer. They do have great chemistry together, and Cat Wynn can write a sex scene like whoa, but I wasn't really sure where their emotional connection came from. Not having Carter's POV didn't help in this respect.
I also think the pacing was off at multiple points in this story, and there were expectations being set up in the plot that don't ever really pay off (e.g. the issue that sets off the bleak moment doesn't ever seem to be fully resolved?). Perdie's actions (and Carter's occasionally too) sometimes felt reckless and immature for someone who wants to make partner and who's been in a professional career for so long.
I loved the friendship between Perdie and Lucille, and would love to read Lucille's book, and Wynn has a fantastic voice. If you like Andie J. Christopher, you'll like this! 3.5 stars.
Thanks to Carina Press and NetGalley for the ARC.
I requested this book on NetGalley after seeing a good review of it on Instagram. I was not led astray, this was pretty good!
There is a story line, the main characters are lawyers and the plot is mostly work related. There is also lots of spicy parts in the book. Perdie and Carter are just out there getting it all the time.
The book was funny and sexy and had some emotional parts. If you like to read open door romances I would say this one is a decent read to check out.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy. The book is out on 4/26!
This will be posted on my Instagram @katebrownreads
Perdie and Carter meet through work and have one night together. Then he turns up at her workplace, taking the partnership she thinks should have been hers. He wants a chance with her, but she is concerned about the age gap and being older than him, alongside the fact that they work together.
A fun read.
“Well, if you’re my enemy, maybe I should switch to your side”
“What do adults do in bed?”
“I could do it without even laying a finger on that flushed pink skin of yours”
Definitely not what I was expecting !!!
This book was really good !!!
And I’d highly recommend you to read it.
You know why??? It has the best romance tropes you can find in a book: forbidden relationship, one bed, working together, rivals to lovers … just great !!!
There’s even a bit of an age gap between the main character and the love interest ( it’s more a older woman/younger man) if you want!!!!
And while you’ll feel frustrated, stressed out and completely chaotic with Perdie, you’ll also feel her struggle in a world built for men that would be so much better if work atmospheres were a bit less misogynistic!!!!!
And Carter … oh my goodness Carter … that man is something else …
He’s sweet, caring but also rough and hard when he needs to be. He respects her. He is jealous. But tell me you don’t love it when the man falls first !!!
And he grew up with two mums teaching him how to respect and cherish a woman !!!
It’s a win-win situation and Perdie knows it… but struggles are struggles and the reader fights through all of them with her, hoping that one day she’ll realise …
But I’m not going to go too far …
I’ll just say, READ THIS BOOK !!!
“Been thinking about making you c**e since you opened your mouth in that deposition room”
“You shouldn’t let the perfect stand in the way of the good”
“I’m a tease because it makes you so angry”
“Hold on for me, baby. Hold on for just a few minutes … this shouldn’t take long”
The cover is cute and I liked the blurb but when reading I just could not connect to the characters. I am sure others will love the book, it is just not my cup of tea.
Disappointing. I just wasn't really invested in the romance. I liked at the end how the MC started a new firm with her former female coworkers, but mostly, this book was pretty forgettable.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Carina Press & Carina Adores (Harlequin) and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
I had a lot of problems with this one. The abundance of pointless sex that seemed to demean an already unlikable character. Misogyny is rampant. Dog death, not enough background on the main and her best friend. It teases a love arc between the two. What’s the point of you don’t elaborate on more.
Solid 3.5 stars
Here is what you are going to like:
•5 🍆🍆🍆🍆🍆 spice
There is A LOT of sex in this book. The first two instances of sex don't even involved penetration. It was great. It is sex for sex but then it evolves to more emotional sex, the FMC even cries after they have sex once.
•Dirty talking beta MMC. The dirty talk was really good, similar to a very popular author known for their dirty talk, but slightly less corny. The term "bad girl" is used a lot.
•The FMC- Perdie is MESSY AF. She's self centered but determined. She blows people off but also cares deeply. Think Naomi from YDEO but slightly worse.
•Fantastic female friendship. Perdie and her BFF, Lucille live together. They own their condo together. They are proclaimed to be each others person. Romantic partners are secondary to that. Perdie and Lucille co-parent an elderly dog. <spoiler>The dog dies</spoiler>
•Work relationship where the MMC is not the savior although he wants to be.
•Perdie decides to go to therapy.
Not good or bad
•This book is VERY fast paced. Wynn's writing made me think of Gilmore Girls, insomuch as you gotta keep up. Things are happening and there is no time to delay.
More (sex) vibes than plot.
The reasons I didn't rate this higher
•I felt like there were some missing pieces. I wanted more on how Perdie and Lucille became friends. Their friendship was a bright point, I wanted more.
•Perdie and Carter are clearly in to each other physically but I wanted more on their emotional connection. Help me, as the reader, really believe that they are really going to last.
•A few minor instances of gender essentialism.
All in all this was enjoyable read. It will probably give you pants feelings. Perdie is the kind of messy FMC that I adore and love seeing on the page. She's got a lot of things together but also several things she doesn't. I like my romances with a bit more emotional connection. But I think readers who are looking for a really sexy and mostly fun read will enjoy this.
CW: Sexual harassment in the work place, shitty mother.
Perdie didn’t think anything would feel better than beating the annoyingly gorgeous opposing counsel Carter at his own game, but that's before a freak storm leaves them both stranded.
Together.
In the last hotel room.
With only one bed.
It’s a one-night stand Perdie isn’t soon to forget…especially after Carter turns up at her firm and slides right into the job that should have been hers. And right back into her life—a life she thought she had all figured out.
It's the last hotel room with one bed trope but it's done exceptionally well. I like Carter a lot. It's nice to see a man who is a feminist and didn't require a woman to educate him..... I like their chemistry a lot. Their bantering is fun. :) A quick fun read.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
