Well this was a fun time! I really enjoyed this story of Perdie and Carter set against a law firm backdrop.
Without recapping plot too much, Perdie has a one night stand with Carter (the opposing counsel!) thinking that’s that. She’ll never see him again. When she finds him in her hometown she’s surprised, and even more surprised when she discovers he’s a new partner at her firm. She wanted that partnership!
Things I liked:
- I love it when the female lead is slighter older than the guy and has him hooked - you go, Perdie!
- This book highlighted therapy well, and went that extra step to show a therapy session in progress
- Carter was a dreamboat! Determined to lift Perdie up however he could, calling out BS in the firm - yes feminism! He was gone for her. So sweet
- I felt that the gross behaviour by the older partners was depicted well, it felt like it was based on real experiences (is Cat Wynn a lawyer too?)
- I loved the little side story with Perdie’s friend and a potential love interest… is this book 2?
- Great steam to plot ratio
Things I didn’t like:
- Sometimes Perdie didn’t feel 39? There were parts where she felt a little immature to me
- Oh I was so distressed about the doggo :( I know there was a warning, but I never handle it well
- I think I’d have liked more early scenes of them building of their connection (beyond the sexual chemistry)
In short: Jolly fun! I really liked this - it delivered on a lot of quality tropes: one hotel room, only one bed, snowed in, rivals-lovers.
Thanks for the ARC!
