MIa is one of my new favorite characters!
All Mia wants to do is leave her current life behind and start new.. Living in a new town where no one knows who she used to be or who she was married to. When she arrives in her new home of Maine she gets quite the welcome, first shes almost run over, then sees the marina that will be her new home and business... Lets just say the photos of the place were not current.
However Mia and her feline companion King Tut are determined to make this work.. So when her new friends Hattie and Lucy need one of her special skills to get some property back, she reluctantly helps.. she doesn't expect to find a body. Or when one of her friends ends up being framed for the murder she knows that as much as she doesn't want to have any contact with the police, or anyone on the shadier side of the law that she will do whatever it takes to make sure that Lucy doesn't go down for a crime she didn't commit.
This book and Mia had me laughing out loud! King Tut is one of the most awsome kitty sidekicks Ive ever seen, and I can't wait to see what new trouble he and Mia can get into next! I really hope we get to meet Mias mom at some point she sounds like a hoot and a half.
I hope this ends up being a long running series Mia, King Tut and the rest of the gang are already my new favorite characters!
This book was not for me. I could not connect to Mia or the story. I wish the writer all the best. Perhaps further installments will be more engaging.
Double Twist is the first book in A Mia Murphy Mystery series by Stephanie Rowe and off to a really good start.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is quirky, funny, full of outlandish characters and situations. For some of them had to suspend belief but nevertheless it was great fun,
The mystery was well presented and thought out. There are twists and turns to keep things interesting.
The writing style is modern and easy to read, The story is steady paced and there isn't a dull moment.
I can't wait for another installment. I am so looking forward to reading more from this author and I am really curious to see how will things play out for the main heroine.
Highly recommended to all cozy mystery readers who like a bit of humor.
Double Twist by Stephanie Rowe is the perfect series starter! I adored this one to pieces. Not only is Mia Murphy a likeable and relatable character but the mystery and plot was perfect! If you enjoy cozy mysteries then this is a must read series for you!
Mia has been thru the wringer. Spending two years with the FBI to have her drug Lord husband stopped. Awesome reading awaits! You'll laugh out loud!! Reminded me of Stephanie Plum. Thanks #netgalley and #AuthenticityPlaygroundPress for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
Stephanie has proven herself as the next Janet Evanovich and that is saying something. Laugh out loud funny with quick wit and a great plot with characters who instantly become your favorites. Can’t wait for the next one,
I was reached out by the publisher, Valentine PR, who sent me an ARC via Netgalley for an honest review. This review is that of my own.
If you like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series then the Mia Murphy series by Stephanie Rowe will definitely appeal to you.
Double Twist is the author’s first cozy mystery novel (who normally writes romance novels). If you like fast paced, laugh out loud cozy mysteries, then make sure to pick up a copy of Double Twist.
Mia Murphy is the main character who recently sent her husband to jail after a two year undercover sting operation. Since Mia wanted to have a fresh start on life, she decided to buy a (run down) marina in Maine. In less than 24 hours, trouble already waltz into her life.
I honestly thought I figured out who the criminal was and then I was sent for another loop.
Double Twist is a wholesome cozy that you’ll want to keep reading for a good hearty laugh.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Authenticity Playground Press and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
I truly appreciate a mystery keeping me interested, Double Twist didn’t disappoint.
I laughed and found the antics fun.
Mia, after helping to bring down her drugpin husband, buys a marina in small town Maine. Mia and King Tut, her rescue cat, arrives to a run down building but is excited that it’s all hers and that she will have a good business in time. She meets new friends, Lucy and Hattie. When Lucy is framed for the murder of her ex, Mia takes on the investigation to clear her friend.
I liked the characters and how easily they became friends. If you like cozy mysteries, you’ll enjoy this fun read
I love mysteries, but this was not the one for me. Mia has paid her debt to her drug lord ex husband. She wants a clean start in Maine. But when her friend is framed for the murder of her ex boyfriend, Mia knows she can’t just sit back and watch. She’s got to do something about it! I really liked Mia, but it took me awhile to get into it.
Stephanie Rowe can make me laugh like no other! "Double Twist" is a fun romp of a mystery. Can't wait until the next one.
Great book! I really enjoyed reading this book! I usually don't really like the quirky highjinx mystery but this one was great! It had suspense, intrigue, murder and mystery, A great who done it and it was funny!! The characters were so interesting, the storyline flowed nicely, all and all it was a great read! I definitely recommend reading this book and series! Ill be going back to find more on this series myself! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
After spying on her own husband to be a witness for the prosecution, Mia finally has her life back. She buys a marina in a small village (unseen...) and wants to leave her old life firmly behind her. But what if your new friends need your help? What if that means skirting the law again?
I enjoyed this story a lot. It was written nicely and in a fun way and I liked Mia and her new friends. She cannot help but get into all kind of scrapes. I wished there was a bit more romance, but there is some hint of it.
I look forward to the next adventure!
Mia just wants to start over after she helps put her Drug lord husband in jail so she moves to Maine. All is not quite what it seems though. ARC from NetGalley.
I could not put this book down. Accidentally marrying a drug kingpin? Easily fixed with an anonymous tip to the FBI...which resulted in a not-so-voluntary, surprisingly stressful stint as an undercover spy against him.
But with her ex finally in prison and assassins in her rearview mirror, Mia is off to Diamond Lake in Bass Derby, Maine with King Tut, her rescue (aka purloined) cat, to start over. Mia is a great character as well as her friends Lucy, Hattie and King Tut! I loved this book and can’t wait for more adventures with this cast.

Mia Murphy has paid her debt to society, by bringing down her drug lord ex husband and just wants a fresh, quiet start to a new life in rural Maine. Buying a marina to start her new life, Mia finds she may have bitten off a little more than she can chew, especially when her first entry into town ends with her being fined for something she didn’t even do.
As Mia settles in, she meets her one renter and the local mail person…who turn out to be her first friends, ever. When Lucy is set up for the murder of her ex boyfriend, Mia knows she can’t sit by and let an innocent woman get railroaded, so she joins forces with them and hopes to save her new friend and her new business, which isn’t what it was presented as. Now Mia has to hope to find the evidence to prove Lucy was set up, find the killers and stay alive long enough to do it all…because only her cat King Tut has nine lives.
While reading this new cozy I was channelling a mix of Stephanie Plum sass, Gilmore Girls banter, and Thelma and Louise if there were a third in the group…AND I laughed out loud quite a few times. Now I want King Tut…because who doesn’t want a guard cat that looks like a bobcat? I love it and can’t wait for the second entry to hit. THIS IS THE COZY SERIES TO READ AND FOLLOW!
After spending 2 terrifying and stressful years helping the FBI take down her drug-dealer husband, Mia Murphy is ready for a calm, peaceful life... but instead she gets the wacky community of Bass Derby, where moose on jet skis portend doom, the police chief is an inept buffoon hired by his mother the mayor, and her dream marina is more of a murder shack than a business. Good thing she spent her formative years as the understudy of her con artist mother - she's going to have to take care of some business herself to begin her life anew!
Strong early Stephanie Plum vibes, and that is certainly a compliment. A little light flirting, but no big romance yet. 4.5 stars rounded up, and I will absolutely keep reading this delightful series.
