4.5 stars for book I could not put down! Filled with magical and headstrong women, what more could you ask for?
Zadie and Finn are on a quest to find their mother, who abruptly left their lives five years ago. Using their gifts of psychic + memory reading abilities, they travel far and wide to discover where their mother went to the night she left them behind. On the way they meet a cast of characters just as special as they are.
Such a unique book that was captivating from the beginning.
I loved this story, the concept is fantastic. I found myself with a myriad of ideas to explain what was happening only to be quite surprised at the feed end. I recommend it.
Zadie can see the future. Finn can see the past. Ever since their mom, Nora, disappeared five years ago, they have been slowly drifting apart. Zadie vows to try to close the distance between them with a vacation celebrating Finn's high school graduation. Instead, they spontaneously embark on an adventure to find out what really happened to their mom. Although the girls possess extraordinary and supernatural powers, will they be able to piece together the puzzle? And at what cost?
Ruth Emmie Lang presents a unique story that I am not sure I have read anything quite like it before. Two sisters with extraordinary powers, coming together with their differences, to try to figure out a mystery. Throughout the story, I felt like I was dealing with real people. They had their flaws and insecurities, just like everyone else. Their troubled family past is raw and transparent. I appreciated Lang's colorful and poetic descriptions, as well as her humor. The themes of strong family ties and empathy were present in every part of the book. I did not see the unusual ending coming and I am thankful for that! Although I would have liked the ending's explanation to be more solid and believable, I think young adult readers will especially enjoy this novel.
I started out liking this book. Then it took a turn for me. I wish I would have seen that it was a sci-fi. I just can't get into it at all.
I'm so so sorry.
Thank you #NetGalley for this arc. I'm just sorry that I can't finish it.
I'll give it 3 stars because it's probably great for sci-fi lovers but not for me.
This is a difficult one to review because there is so much to the story. Let me start by saying the story is captivating, thrilling and heartfelt. It is mostly yhe story of two sisters, or really two half sisters, Zadie who is seventeen and Finn who is twelve. Their mother, Nora, vanished five years ago so Finn is staying with a foster family who want to adopt her. Both sisters have special gifts, Zadie is a psychic and Finn receives the memories of others. They decide they want to search for their mother. On their journey they meet some colourful characters and have a chance to spend some time together to get to learn more about each other. Fascinating story with magic, fantasy and love.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is such a magical and unique story about family, forgiveness and love. Sisters Zadie and Finn go on a road trip to find answers to the questions they have about their mom’s disappearance; they hope at the end of their journey to find their mother. In the meantime, the sisters’ bond grows.
I really enjoyed this story. The touch of fantasy added a unique twist to a little family drama. I think this is one that even those who don’t normally read fantasy novels will enjoy.
Thank you Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for the digital arc in exchange for my honest review which is not affiliated with any brand. I will post my review to Goodreads immediately and to my Amazon and B&N accounts after this novel is published.
4.5 stars! I loved this story. It blends sci-fi and fantasy elements while following along with two sisters who are looking for their mom and finding themselves along the way. I was drawn into this world and enjoyed learning about all the special talents of the characters. Also enjoyed the added element of mystery and was pleasantly surprised how it was all tied together.
Special thanks to the author, NetGalley, and St. Martins Press for the ARC of this book.
It all comes down to choices. Two sisters have to make a few hard choices while trying to find their long ago disappeared mother.
A strange explanation/ending, but overall the book was well-written and kept my attention throughout. The magical bits were very interesting, and the journey the sisters went on was important to their character development. A good read!
Such an interesting and captivating novel of two young women searching for their mother who left them five years prior. Both women have a sixth sense-for Zadie it is premonitions and for Finn it is echoes of memories. They use the senses to leas them on an adventure over the miles in search for their mother.

The Wilderwomen is an intriguing story about two sisters, Zadie and Finn. Both sisters have unusual gifts that make their lives a little more interesting and challenging at times than their peers. One sister has the ability to experience other peoples memories and the other sister is psychic though she works very hard to avoid using her gift. The sisters were abandoned by their mother and it appears that there is no reason for her abandonment other than she just skipped out. But the younger sister, Finn, becomes convinced that there is more to their mothers disappearance than they realize. Finn convinced her reluctant, angry older sister to set out on a trip to find out what happened to their mom.
Their journey leads them to interesting people who also have unusual gifts, but will they figure out what happened to their mom?
I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed that the sisters were so resilient despite their mom leaving, it is such an interesting plot.
I recommend this book, it is intriguing and I got drawn in right away.
While I loved the premise of this book, I didn’t stay interested in it. I love magical realism, the sisters and their magical gifts, but I found myself skimming the book until the end not really caring what happened. I didn’t like the reason for Nora’s disappearance, or feel any investment in the book.
The WIlderwomen by Ruth Emmie Lang follows two sisters who have "gifts" who are on a search for their mother who disappeared eight years previously. Zadie, who could see the future, felt that she should have seen it coming, Nora had been acting strangely for quite awhile, but she never thought that her mother would just...leave. Her estranged younger sister Finn, could hear echoes of the past...of other people's memories, and was so young when Nora left that she was placed into foster care, where Zadie had little contact with her. However, as she graduates high school, she has one of her "echoes" and believes she has a clue to where her mother might be.
After graduation, instead of their planned trip to the beach to strengthen their relationship, the sisters take off from Texas to see if they can find Nora based on Finn's echoes and determination. Their travels take them throughout the western US where they meet some people like themselves and others who just want to help...but is it too late? Is Nora even alive?
An intriguing novel, you'll find yourself rooting for all of the Wilder women as the make their way across the country, hoping they will find the family the seek and the girls will become closer, whether they find their mother or not. Thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
The Wilderwomen reads like a general fiction that’s peppered with sci-fi, mixed with a heaping of mystery & a dash of coming of age that’s all rolled together with a handful of colorful characters to create one of the most unique books I’ve ever read.
This book involea two sisters with opposite personalities & extraordinary abilities who go on a road trip full of adventures to find their lost mother & hopefully solve the mystery in their history.
Both sisters, who are on the precipice of life-changing events, decide to revisit their complex past as the search for answers to the questions from years past.
It alternates between the past & present as the sisters try to solve the mystery of their mom’s disappearance from years earlier.
The beginning of the book felt more like general fiction, which is outside my typical genres & my ADHD brain struggled a bit getting into it. However, once I got into the story, my curiously grew until I finished this book in one day.
It’s full of family, both the drama & the love that comes with it. This book takes you on an unusual adventure & I enjoyed the trip.
Extra things I loved: there was a Blanche Golden Girls reference.
At one point, there’s “talking” trees, which sounds like it would be unbelievable but it was simultaneously amusing, endearing & heart-warming.
Thank you so much to NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for this arc.
I am posting my review to my Goodreads right away. I will post my Amazon review after publication in November of 2022 as well as my Instagram & TikTok reviews closer to publication
The Wilderwomen by Ruth Emmie Lang was such a unique and interesting read. I really enjoyed this author and will definitely be reading more of her work.
I enjoyed this book it was a fast paced, thought provoking story that was hard to put down. I really loved the fantasy aspect of this book and really loved the characters.
The Wilderwomen was a story about two sisters, Zadie and Finn, who have gifts. One can sense memories from people and the other is said to be psychic to some extent. They are searching for the mother who abandoned them some years prior. On their journey they run into some really great characters, I especially liked the folks at the Campground and the family that helps them near the end of the story. I thought the plot was very interesting and the writing smooth. However, I felt it got really slow at times and felt like in regards to Finn the story was repeating itself over and over. I was unsure where mental illness ended and her gifts began, they really seemed tangled together. All in all, I really enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more by this author, they are quite the storyteller.
This is likely the most interesting book I have read in quite a long time. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was quickly drawn in and had to keep reading to find out what happened next. Echos, psychic visions, and hearing voices, it almost sounds like mental illness at times. It’s a lot to take in, but yet it comes together so well in the telling of the story that you can’t seem to put down.
Settle into a comfy spot with a drink and read this one. You may plow right through it as it’s a page turner.
This book was so unique! It took me a little while to settle into the world and familiarize myself with the characters, but once I did the story took off. To sum it all up it was a fast-paced, heartfelt, powerful, thought-provoking, and a deeply moving story that was hard for me to put down.I think this book is going to be big!
A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press & Wednesday Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Wilderwomen by Ruth Emmie Lang is a wonderful fantasy novel that has magic, family, fiction, and kept me entertained throughout.
This is definitely something that is out of my usual genre, but I enjoyed this dive into science fiction/fantasy thread because the narrative is also about family, love, forgiveness, acceptance, and finding happiness amongst the obstacles, disappointments, and difficulties in life (realistic and magical alike).
I enjoyed seeing the complicated relationship between sisters Zadie and Finn. Add in some mystery, magic, and suspense, and the reader ends up with an engaging story.
Recommend for anyone that likes fantasy and fiction.

I loved this book so much! I stayed up late, reading into the wee hours because I couldn't bear to put the book down. I was saddened to turn the final page and find that I was done.
I was totally entranced in this tale right from the very beginning.
The characters I couldn't get enough of.
Lang delivers an absolutely beautifully written, appealing, and magical read here with a storyline that will hold you captive till the very last page, and enchanting characters that you won’t soon forget.
It is a beautiful, charming story, full of uniqueness, love, magic, and possibilities.
