Sexy and smart this is a book I've been waiting for for a long time.
What The Fang? is set in the American South about twenty years after a war between vampires and humans ends. Vampires have been given control of Charleston, New Orleans, and Savannah, ruled by The Vampire King who lives in a large plantation west of the Mississippi River.
Most witches steer clear of vampires, but not Willa Farrington. Having been banished by her own kind for her lack of magic, Willa decides to make her home right in the middle of vampire-run Charleston, opening a book store and making some new vamp friends.
One evening while closing up shop, a random vampire attacks Willa. The powerless witch somehow manages to send out a telepathic cry for help – a cry heard by the fearsome, silver-eyed vampire Warden of Charleston, Killian Constantine, who swoops in to rescue her.
The chemistry is immediate and intense between Killian and Willa and I was surprised by how long it takes them to give in to the heat between them (page-wise, in book time it was only a few days). Really the whole book takes place in a matter of days. From the moment she’s first attacked, poor Willa is hit with revelation after revelation, about herself and pretty much her entire existence, while trying to figure out her connection to Killian and why she’s suddenly the target of a group of vampires.
A lot happens for such a relatively short book (under 200 pages). There’s a lot of discoveries made, a lot of worldbuilding, a lot of action, a healthy amount of *spice*, and a whole cast of characters – my favorite part of the book was actually the secondary characters. From an adorable pet dragon, to a pair of ride-or-die vampire best friends, and even Killian’s staff, the secondary characters really give a lot of heart to the story and I would love to see them given more page time in future books.
All in all, What The Fang? is a fast-paced, quick read packed full of likeable, interesting supernatural characters and an intricate, twisting plot that left me invested in the series and eager to read what happens next.
This book started off just a little rough for me….maybe there wasn’t enough buildup before getting into the main action? I really ended up enjoying this story and look forward to more. The chemistry between the main characters is fun and the plot was interesting.
Thanks to NetGalley and Stacey Kennedy for providing me access to this eARC for my honest opinion!
I did not expect to love this book as much as I did, I thought this was just going to be a generic Vampire romance, but I am so glad I was wrong. I will admit I typically do stay away from romances with vampires as the story is typically just generic dribbled (yes, I may be thinking of a certain popular series)
What The Fang? is different.
First, the plot is actually interesting. I found myself interested in all the characters & interested in this alternative world that Kennedy had created. Considering how it ended I'm actually excited to read the next book to see how things go & to see where Kennedy takes the story.
Second, as I mentioned before I actually liked the characters. Willa is a strong female character and I liked how realistic she is but also she's brave and just a great character. I thought Killian was just going to be the stereotypical brooding vampire, but 11m so happy that was not the case. I also liked Ari and Willa's friends. I really hope we see more of them in the next book.
Lastly, The romance was hot! I am so glad they did not make us wait too long to get to the smutty goodness, which was just the right amount of steamy. the one drawback I had that while the plot was good, I was able to easily guess what was going to happen next.
Overall, a great paranormal romance.
I enjoyed this story so much. The characters were funny and unique. Failed witch Willa Farrington loves her bookstore in the vampire run city of Charleston. She has friends and keeps out of the vampires way. Suddenly people are trying to kidnap her and she is put under the protection of Warden Killian Constantine. He is a powerful vampire, not to mention gorgeous. As they try to fend of the would be kidnappers, they can not deny their growing attraction. This was such a great story with lots of surprises and plot twists. I really enjoyed Willa and her friends. They are definitely what every girl needs. Killian is just so much of everything; gorgeous, powerful and a whole lot more. Really looking forward to more stories about this amazing cast of characters.
I love the cover of this book- I am truly loving the illustrated cover trend. The cover drew me in and is similar to so many of my favorite contemporary rom-com covers! I also was drawn to the cute title!
The blurb intrigued me and I expected a cute romance with witch and vampire characters- right up my alley!
In actuality, the book included lots of world building and wasn’t what I was expecting from the cover and the blurb. If I’d known it was less rom-com and more paranormal fantasy that would have helped, I think. As it was, I felt the pacing was rushed, the dialog somewhat boring and unnecessary, and I didn’t connect to or care about the characters, which all leads me to believe I’m not the right reader for this book. I’m sure it will appeal more to other readers.
This book had a lot of potential, but I enjoyed it more because of the nostalgia. It was reminiscent of the mid-2000s to 2010's YA paranormal romances, with the tall, dark and handsome male lead and a low-key but super strong/decisive female lead. I can't say that there was anything special about the story. Also, I wouldn't say I liked that it felt like a YA novel more than the NA novel that I had expected. It felt a bit disorienting to read in that way.
I also felt like there was very little happening in the way of character development. There were just too many things going on, one after the next, which took away from the opportunity to see any true character and relationship development. The relationships between Willa and Killian and Willa and her father (and others), all felt too fast to develop and lacking in substance. I can't say that I was sold.
I'm rating this three stars because I did still like reading it, but as I said, that was mainly because of the nostalgia. That being said, I'd like to see more NA romance within this subgenre because it has the potential to be so bloody good ;)
The publisher kindly provided ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Immediately yes. I adored this book with all of my soul. I read it on vacation when I was supposed to be doing vacation things, but nope I had to finish this.
I loved Willa and immediately connected with her and her two best friends . There were moments where it did remind me of Twilight, and just like with Twilight, I was quickly absorbed into the story. Vampires, witches, spells, dragons, what’s not to like!
I’m sad we have to wait for the next installment, but I’ll gladly purchase it when the time comes.
What the Fang? is the first book in the Undead Ever After series by Stacey Kennedy. Willa Farrington’s magic is broken. Shunned by her coven for failing to pass the Summer Solstice Rite, Willa escapes to the one place no witch belongs – Charleston, a city that belongs to vampires. Determined to embrace her new life, Willa opens Cauldron Boil Books, and unexpectedly finds some friends among the vampires. One terrible night Willa ends up on the wrong side of a pair of fangs. Thankfully, her captor’s plan is ruined when Killian Constantine, the drop-dead gorgeous Warden of Charleston, shows up to save her. But just when Willa thinks she’s safe, Killian demands to know why she – a witch – telepathically called him for help. Intent on finding answers, the two embark on a journey to unravel the mystery behind Willa’s attack and their unusual connection. As they get closer to the truth, the fiery passion between them ignites. Just as Willa starts to think that her entire existence is a lie, deadlier forces come out of the shadows. She will need to believe in her malfunctioning magic, trust bloodthirsty vampires, and cross her fingers that she and Killian make it out.
What the Fang? is a solid series starter. I was quickly invested in Willa's story, and like the way bits and pieces of her story were revealed. I did think the connection with Killian and some of the big reveals were a tad obvious, and a everyone seems to accept and process things way faster than I was quite prepared for, but the journey was still a great deal of fun. Killian was an interesting character, and I can see a great deal of potential with him, but I would have liked to have seen more of his thoughts and past straight from him rather than as he shared with Willa. I think some opportunities were missed there. I loved Willa's friends, and the reactions of some of the vampires to her in the book. I look forward to seeing more of them all in future installments of the series. I do have to admit that Ambrose was my absolute favorite character in the entire book.
What the Fang? is a paranormal romance that nicely balances fun and danger.
A really nice and funny read!
It seems like books like this are making their comeback and I couldn’t be more happy!
The characters were lovable and the writing is good.
Would recommend!
I did not want to put this down!
We have family secrets, found family, fated mates, and a dash of spice.
I always root for the misfits - a witch with no magic, a dragon that never grew into his fire - it is so hard not to love them.
It almost seemed too short, but I am so excited to read the sequel later this year because I need to know what happens next.
I thoroughly enjoyed this paranormal romance. A few twists and turns, and characters that I really liked. The world building was pretty good, and I look forward to further installments in the series. *I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Ms. Kennedy has outdone herself. This is Willa's story. She's an outcast of her coven that has a pet dragon. As she fights does and secrets, Ambrose comes to help her. The action and slow building romance will keep you engaged. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
What the Fang? is a great quick read with witches and vampires. Thoroughly enjoyed reading about a Witch with no powers and a powerful vampire.
Killian seems like such a grump at first stating how he "doesnt want her mess to become his mess"
The book overall had good banter and a great love interest... I definitely loved Ambrose the little dragon!
This new series is going to be a thrill to read because it has vampires and witches and DRAGONS!!!! Willa is a witch without magic and Killian is the warden of Charleston. It's his business to know what is going on in his city. So when rogue vamps attack Willa and he is somehow called to her aide, a whole new can of worms get opened.
The last thing he expected was meeting the woman he was destined to be with under such dire circumstances but it is now his purpose in life to keep her safe.
“What the Fang?”
What is a witch with no powers to do when a cabal of vampires is trying to kidnap her?
Willa Farrington wants nothing more than to run her bookstore, hang with her two vampire besties, and lead a quiet life with her oddly miniature dragon. Apparently fate has other plans when a group of vamps randomly attempt to kidnap her. When she awakes in the home of a very yummy looking vampire Willa must embark on a quest to figure out why the fang this group is after her, and the truth of who she actually is.
If you want a supernatural romance that is light yet has a solid plot, I highly recommend this book. I couldn’t put it down. Five stars and I cannot wait for the sequel.
What the Fang? was an incredibly fun and intriguing atmospheric novel. I enjoyed the characters, and it was a quick read. I found the writing to be engaging and entertaining; I had an enjoyable time reading this and it held my attention the entire way through that I finished it within the day! I enjoyed every page and thought that the plot/story was very unique. Would recommend to anyone!

This book had a great blurb, great setting, really intriguing main characters but it was rushed. Everything happened at a super speed which hindered character development. The two best friends could have been left out completely and they wouldn't be missed.

The forbidden element of the romance is brushed aside pretty quickly. I would have preferred there be at least some barriers to Willa and Killian's romance. When I'm expecting forbidden I expect at least some resistance to the relationship.

Given this is a series I'm wondering where the author can go from here? Will there be new main characters, which I think is the best direction or will she continue on a story that seems to have wrapped up all its loose ends?

"...Willa Farrington’s magic is broken. Shunned by her coven for failing to pass the Summer Solstice Rite..."
Readers of quirky, witchy romances will immediately recognize this overused plot. Despite the fun mood, the rushed character development and sense of deja-vu really killed the vibe for me. I don't necessarily hate it, but I'm not planning on reading any more in the series. Perhaps this should have been a longer, more fleshed out standalone instead of the first in a series.

What can I say?
It has been centuries I've found an entertaining and supernatural novel like this one! From the title to the elements included in the book, the originality of this author sparkles in so many ways.
Plus, I really appreciate the idea of a vampire society that tries to mantain cooperation and piece with witches, humans and other creatures. Powers are interesting too, but I have to admit, those vampires were too strong to be beliavable (do they really have to fly too, since they can teleport themself?).
Same thing for the main character in a wider way: she is capable, brave and resourceful, and that is good, but the fact that everyone loves and admires her blindly was a little bit forced. The same applies for the relationships presented in this book, previews or new! There's a sort of insta love that could be cute if more time passes during the book, but we talk about too few days, in which that instant attraction (very intense and appreciated) has immediately been transformed into real love. I understand passion and that some kind of bonds are spontaneous, but someone has to be certain before using the word love. Plus, everyone loves the "new addition" of the group in a too simple manner, not to mention how things goes with the main character's father. I don't know, it seems a clear way to have a "happy ending" that is cute, but could have been developed in more time.
Despite those aspects and a little bit confusion during some important plot moments, my reading was lovely and I can't wait to go on with the next one! Plus, can we talk about the fact that there's a baby dragon as a pet?
Very nice!
