I was so excited for this ! But it did not go well for me! I didn't connect with the plot nor the characters!

I am a huge fan of Boyfriend Material and have read it many times. I felt let-down by Husband Material. I liked the overall message that marriage isn't for everyone, but I felt like it took the book too long to get there. I might also just be growing out of Hall's writing style, because the humor didn't entertain me the same way it had in the first book. I recommended it for purchase in our library because I still recommend the first one, and our patrons can make up their own minds on the second.

A great follow up to Boyfriend Material! Alexic Hall never misses. The characters and situations feel genuine and full of depth. The pacing was good. Can't wait for the next one.

Husband Material by Alexis Hall is an absolute gem that perfectly balances humor, romance, and heartfelt moments. Luc and Oliver’s journey through weddings and personal growth is both hilarious and deeply touching. Hall’s witty writing and lovable characters make this book an irresistible read. If you loved Boyfriend Material, this sequel will definitely exceed your expectations! 📚💖

I loved Boyfriend Material so dang much -- fake dating that leads to real love may be one of the oldest romantic tropes in the books, but that's because it's SO DAMN GOOD/SATISFYING when done well; and Hall did it SO well in Boyfriend Material -- so of course I was over the moon when Hall announced there'd be a sequel. And it did not disappoint! Luc and Oliver's continued character arcs and relationship developments were juicy AND funny AND sweet AND spicy. Perfect for those who enjoyed Four Weddings & a Funeral, fans of all things British, and queer readers in search of a fun read with solid characters.

(I can't believe I forgot to submit feedback on this previously. But: good book, but not as good as the first in the series. It felt like some of the issues resolved previously got undone, and frankly, it just lacked some of the charm and fun of BOYFRIEND MATERIAL.

This is a solid follow up to the first novel, and takes the characters exactly where they needed to go. I really enjoyed seeing this whole friend group again, and adore this author's writing.

I did not read Boyfriend Material, which I think this book is the sequel to, but I decided to try this one anyway. While I think it was fine to read this one without reading the other book, it sounds like the first book may have been a bit more interesting than this one based on what I heard from other reviewers. I think that the pacing and character development just weren't there for me in this one. There was some good banter and overall the writing style was pretty good, but it was lacking in some areas that really could have made it better. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book.

It was great to get back to Luc and Oliver- this sequel had a lot of similar beats that harkened back to it's predecessor ( Boyfriend Material) and did a wonderful job exploring how Luc and Oliver's lives have changed in the last two years. With figures from Luc's past bringing the drama and the complexities of interpersonal relationships Husband Material was a fun read. At times is felt a bit too busy- trying to cram so much in at once, and being a little bit too repetitive of beats from the first book. That being said, I loved the examinations of queer identity, belonging and relationships as things that need to be defined by each individual rather than by collective agreement or popular vote.

This book was fantastic. I was actually looking forward to this sequel, and I was not disappointed. It kept the same pace as the original and built on it perfectly. It was an exciting journey that kept me hooked until the very end. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thrilling read.

I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did. I was thoroughly entertained by Luc and I just love him and Oliver together which lead for an amazing follow up to Boyfriend Material. I definitely wanted to see how their lives would turn out together. I spent the entirety of this series cheering them on. Luc and Oliver are definitely one of my favourite fictional couples.

I tried to physically read this and found it a little hard to get into, so I waited for the audiobook to come out and I loved it! Great banter and world-building.

I loved "Boyfriend Material," the first in this series, SO much. My hopes were high for this one. Sadly, I didn't like it as much, though it was quite fun to read.

My main issue with this book revolves around the third-act conflict, which felt really rushed at the end. I'm picky about a third-act conflict overall, because I feel like they can easily not work, and this one didn't work. It was resolved too quickly in a way that felt really unsatisfying.

Probably one of the most disappointing sequels ever. Boyfriend Material was great and this was marketed in a very similar way, but the whole book was all over the place and then spoiler alert - they don't even actually end up getting married!

This was enjoyable! However, I think I prefer to read about the falling in love more than what comes after.

I loved Alexis Hall's Boyfriend Material, so I was delighted to get my hands (and ears) on the audiobook of Husband Material. I'll admit that it took me minute to get in to this one - maybe it was because of diving into the complexities of an established relationship?

The banter is still there, which is the highlight of this one!

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this one with me. All thoughts are my own.

I am such a huge fan of Alexis Hall’s books, so it was an honour to get to read this new book. I love the comedic timing in all of Hall’s books, but this one really upped the ante. It was a fabulous read and one that I recommend to all of my friends! (Seriously, they are probably tired of me talking about how good this—and every other book that I’ve read by Hall—is) . Favourite book of the year, hands down.

I really enjoyed Boyfriend Material and had really high hopes that Husband Material would fulfill that same sense of longing and bumbling whimsy that I felt during the first book. Sometimes there is so much success with a book that was intended to be a stand-alone that the next portion was not fully flushed out before writing. The story was here and it could have been so good, but there was just some editing and rushed aspects that made it disconnected.
I know that relationships are never perfect and humans are well, human. But there was a lot more disfunction than I thought there would be and often times Luc just seemed horrible. I am no sure where the character arc and growth was supposed to be.
While there was promise, it just did not feel as though it was plotted out as well as I had hope and I could not connect to the characters.

I love love loved Boyfriend Material when I read it in 2020 and couldn't wait for more Luca and Oliver but this book kind of made me mad! They didn't seem to grow as characters throughout this book and still continued to argue quite a bit. It seemed like the same thing over and over! Almost wish this book hadn't been about them and was a new couple because I wanted to love them as much as I did in Boyfriend Material but that just didn't happen!

I absolutely loved this novel.
Such a great story with defined characters and a great plot.
What drew me in the most was how fleshed out the characters were
The writing style was fluid and relateable.
The cover was fascinating as well.
A reviting read overall
Definitely recommend adding this to your TBR!
