Full of just as many witty dialogue exchanges and zany antics as the first book, Husband Material is also just as heartfelt. I really enjoyed this one and hope we keep seeing more adult m/m books releasing from traditional publishers in the years to come.

I missed these boys more than I realized! Their relationship is just so fun and the dynamics of all the characters was just really excellent. The ending was delightful and sweet. It was lovely to catch up with this cast of characters.

Wow! Thank you so much. ajh perfection per usual.. I love luc and oliver. this book is.an amazing extension of their love affair and the whole bm universe. I love what ajh chooses to do with these characters soooo much. the rainbow flag debate resonates with me as a queer woman. this was an excellent choice for the queer new adult book club/support group I facilitate.

I thought this book was okay but I much preferred the first book. I loved the first one a lot and it felt like this book tried to stretch the story farther than was necessary.

love the first book, boyfriend material and this book continues on with the great characters. I was a little confused about the rush to marriage based on the two charaters we got to know so well in the first book but Hall did a great job.

I thought this was a great follow-up to Boyfriend Material, though I didn't love it quite as much. It was a slower read for me, and I admittedly put it down for long time before I started reading again. That said, I found the ending extremely satisfying, and I love the main characters.

I'VE BEEN BAMBOOZLED IN THE BEST WAY. If you've been through a few of the stories I posted on Instagram while I was reading this book, you know how dear to my heart this story is. I loved "Boyfriend Material" with a capital L and I want to say "Husband Material" is just as good as its predecessor, if not better even! I usually have a hard time reading first-person narrative romances because there's just something that feels a little cringey often. This has never been the case with anything I've read from Alexis Hall (which, fair enough, only encompasses the London Calling and Winner Bakes All series, but I'm only at the beginning of my beautiful journey). Luc & Oliver remain as heartwarmingly sweet as ever and the banter inside this book was mad and I was genuinely laughing out loud (or giggling when convention dictated I keep it to myself) during several chapters. This is a great sequel, full of feel-good feelings and character development, and I was so sad to have read it so quickly... until Alexis Hall decided to bless us again yesterday with another sequel (insert pterodactyl screeches). Mind you, we'll have to wait until October 2024, but I know it will all be worth it. Many thanks to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for letting me read an ARC. It's been a treat and a privilege, honestly.

Cute and hilarious. Maybe not quite as great as Boyfriend Material, but it's definitely up there. I love Luc and Oliver, both are great characters. And I love the friend group as well, they feel real.

I love these two together! The follow up.to boyfriend material was every bit as fun and cute as the original. I was a bit surprised by the end but overall it was a fun read!

Boyfriend Material gave me so much joy, unfortunately I did not experience the same with Husband Material. I picked up and dropped this book about 5 times, and it saddened me because I was so excited for the release. My main issue is reading it made me feel like Luc and Oliver should NOT be together. That there was such a thing as too different to be compatible in a romance book.

A huge thanks to SOURCEBOOKS and NetGalley for the ARC

The highly-anticipated sequel to Boyfriend Material finds Luc struggling with the pressure of proposing to Oliver, his partner who he formerly orchestrated a fake relationship with.

Alexis Hall's writing is such a joy to read, and it felt like a treat to be back in this universe with such beloved characters. Hall's exploration that HEA can look different to everyone is a message that's incredibly important, especially in the romance genre. And I particularly loved the look at community and Oliver's feelings around not connecting with the queer community and being unsure of where that leaves him. It was real and relatable and something I'd love to see Hall continue to write about in other stories.

Before reviewing this second book, I had to read the first one, and I have to say that now that I have read the second one neither of them blew me away all that much. Lately romances haven't been blowing my mind all that much and, truthfully said, there has to be something that sets them apart from the crowd for me to give them a rating that is above three stars, but ahimé that is not the case with these two novels.

I never thought I will say this, but I think this sequel ruined the memory of first book. Because I remember loving Boyfriend Material, but now I'm starting to doubt myself if that book was THAT good? Because how can second book be that bad, like total oposite from the first one, when we talk about the same characters...like it was written by the different author.
At first I was confused by what I read, and then frustrated. There was no point to write this book, because nothing happened for majority of it, except of some random weddings ( and the way author talked about most of them, feels like it is somehow a personal revenge, like ''are you alright, Alexis?'' ).
I don't even start about how Luc was so selfcentered, that even some major life changes on Olivers life was turned to be about him. I don't understand why Oliver is still with Luc, because of all the gaslighting he received by Luc. Like some parts were literal psychological abuse. I start to think , that maybe Luc is a narcisist.
I can believe I wasted my time on this book...

I loved this book more than the second. The creative structure of the plot gave me just enough to know what was happening but was enough of a tease to keep it interesting. The characters of Luc and Oliver are both trying to figure out themselves individually and with each other. The ending was not my favorite but the overall story lets us know that the process of exploring our insecurities is easier with someone you love. Alexis Hall is an amazing author who can create dialogue and tension beautifully. The banter and the emotional depth of discussions makes you fall more for the characters even when you want to scream at them for making bad decisions.

Alexis Hall, as always, is very good at writing banter and dialogue. It was fun to revisit these characters and see their relationship progress. It's also very relatable for when you reach a certain age and suddenly all your friends are getting married.

This was such a cute sequel to Boyfriend Material. I love that even the most over-the-top characters have depth and developmental arcs. Alex Twaddle and Luc's mom, Odile, are the real stars for me.

Husband Material was one of my most anticipated book of 2022, and I enjoyed it so much. I loved being back with all of these characters, not just Luc and Oliver. I also enjoyed the process of how we got to the end, how certain decisions were made, etc. Even though I'm giving this a 4* rating, I didn't love this as much as Boyfriend Material. Maybe it's just hard to beat the initial book. However, I did still adore Husband Material! I am looking forward to reading about them again in the future, and I am also looking forward to reading more of Alexis Hall's books!

"Lucien O'Donnell, you have made me the happiest of men."

So, it breaks my heart to rate an Alexis Hall book so low. Boyfriend Material was a five-star read for me. I loved the juxtaposition of messy Lucien with pragmatic Oliver and so when I saw they were getting a sequel, I was excited. However, this particular sequel and this particular plot, unfortunately, felt unnecessary (and unnecessarily long).

I mean the story was broken into parts according to different events. But if they weren't at one of those events, they were basically always analysing their relationship or in disagreement. The book focused a lot on identity politics and queer culture. In moments where Luc felt connected to the community, Oliver felt judged. This exploration was interesting, but the repetition of Luc feeling insecure and Oliver reassuring him became monotonous.

At the end of the day, I think I would have just preferred them to have their happily ever after in Boyfriend Material without another 400+ pages of extra relationship turmoil, you know? Also, I would have given anything to get Oliver's perspective. Unfortunately, Luc comes across as quite whiny in this book and I mean, I wouldn't have hated a break from that.

If you do decide to give it a go, the audiobook is worth a listen. Sorry Husband Material, but it's you not me!
