What an interesting collection of poetry! I had never heard of this author, but when I saw that the works contained elements of fairy tales and mythology, I had to read it. I enjoyed the writing style and her descriptions, which were extremely vivid to the point that the images flowed into my mind - I didn't have to work at it. I will look for this author in the future.
Unfortunately I didn’t connect with any of the poems and struggled with the imagery. Poetry is deeply personal so I think it was a case of not relating to the experiences of the author
I can’t decide what I think about this. On one hand, the poems were beautifully written. The author knitted together words creating these lush, descriptive poems that I could visualise in my head. However, although I enjoyed the beauty of the words I couldn’t relate to the poems. Like always with poetry, it’s very subjective and what I don’t relate to, another person could. So I would still recommend this book to people because of the beauty of it because you never know you could relate to this book more than me.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book.
a beautiful poetry collection. thoughtful and emotional. ellie uses gorgeous descriptions which allow the reader to recall visualize the words on paper in a sensory way. highly recommend Flinch to anyone who wants to read a short collection of meaningful and well written poems.
This collection is clear, concise, and sincere. It is also chockfull of cliches, abstractions, and heavy-handed sentimentality. Occasionally, there is a single image that will draw the reader's attention and hold it. Unfortunately, these images do not carry the poems. Not recommended.
I always love this author's work, and in this collection her talent for sharing moments and making them lyrical once again shines.
There's something really powerful in the way she writes, and this collection is again proof of that - particularly in moments such as 'Shadow Puppets' 'Elowen' and poignantly 'Slabs' which is just so striking when it comes to those moments poetically that just hit you.
A fantastic collection!
This is a lovely beautifully written collection of poems that I really enjoyed. Some of the ones I particularly enjoyed were Land Mammal, The Moor, and Shadow Puppets. I really enjoyed this book of poems and will definitely be looking out for more from the writer in the future.
