This book had allllll the drama. First off, this is not the final book (like I thought) so be prepared for a crazy ending. Secondly I felt like some of the themes of this book were a little repetitive with the whole duty over love and mean girl act. With that being said, I did enjoy this book and I am looking forward to the next one.
I loved this book! Well, I love all books in this series, I hope it never ends, realistically I know that’s not possible but a read/a fan/a girl can dream, right?
There is a whole lot of relationship issues
Obviously rivals and allies
Friends in the oddest places
I don’t want to give too much away because I want you to read it, devour it, and love it as the rest of us have.
Nina, Daphne, Beatrice, Samantha are all out in their glory
I feel like it ended on a cliffhanger, so hopefully a girl can get her wish and get another book in this series!
Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read and review this title.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rivals (American Royals #3) by Katherine McGee
This has been a very surprising series. It seemed like it came from nowhere. But what a very pleasant surprise. The first two books in the series were fabulous. The conclusion of the second book seemed to wrap everything up nicely so I was delighted to find out there was a third book!
It took me a little while to get into this one. It dragged at the beginning, a little bit slow, I put it down, picked it up, put it down, picked it up, which is why it doesn’t get four stars. But when the drama and surprises began they flipping began. The second part of the book was full of so much! There were revelations, friendships, love, and angst - everything you’re looking for in a young adult romance. With the cliffhanger at the end, there will definitely be a fourth book…which I will be reading!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this title for review.
This third installment in the American Royals series brings all our favorite characters back together: Nina, Sam, Marshall, Jefferson, Daphne, Teddy, and Beatrice-- and introduces some new characters.... or are they rivals? Gabriella is the just-returned-from-Europe-with-her-father-the-diplomat college freshman who has known Jeff since they were babies. And Louise is the French queen regent who may be the closest thing Beatrice has to a peer,,, until her dementia-riddled father wakes from his coma, and he's just as hard on her as he was when she was growing up, the only child of the king --and a girl to boot. Will these American royals and their polygons of friends and relationships survive the American-hosted Conference of Kings?!
The story is fun for readers who enjoy The Royals and other royalty-centric gossip dramas, but it didn't burn a fire in me to keep reading.
I loved this third installment in the American Royals series by Katharine McGee and cannot wait for the next one, because there MUST be another. As a government teacher, I find the concept of American royalty incredibly interesting and love the spin on history McGee takes. She also is able to combine that alternative world with wonderful writing of family and relationships. The ending though, ugh. I can't wait to hear what happens next!
Unfortunately not my favorite! It took me a while to get through and I kept picking up other books in between. I’m a bit disappointed because I loved the first two! maybe this series has met its end?
This series is a lot like The Selection, very reality TV kind of vibe. Like I like it a lot, because it is an easy engaging read, but it isn't making me think too much. In a good way though! I like the POV from all of the characters, which is a difficult thing to do, and all of their arcs have been satisfying in this book and the series as a whole. Can'y wait for the next!
I had high hopes for this book and it fell flat for me for several reasons. However, I loved the premise of this world. The United States has a monarchy. I know a lot of people are opposed to this, but for fictional purposes this was fascinating to read the world building.
Having read the other two books in the series, unfortunately I didn't feel as invested in the characters as I did in the first book.
Spoiler alert!!
I do not like the Beatrice/Teddy romance that isn't really a romance. I kept waiting for Connor to make an appearance in the second book and RIVALS and I was disappointed each time. I kept hoping Beatrice and Teddy would break up and move on with their lives because they weren't really in love. Or at least that's how it felt to me, a reader.
Samantha and Marshall - also not a good couple. I realize each of these couples must have obstacles, but for this particular match I found the coupling plot too preachy and they didn't have chemistry. It also seemed like Samantha was meant to be the main character and Beatrice was a subplot which wasn't very interesting.
Jeff/Nina/Daphne/Gabriella and so on and so on. Jeff is unlikeable to me because he's just ... flat. He's a handsome kind of flatness, but there's not a lot of depth to him. Nina could do better.
I sound far too invested in these characters and you'd think I knew them IRL :), but this is the third AMERICAN ROYALS I've read with these characters. It feels forced at this point to have a fourth book, but I'm sure I'll read it because I have to see how this ends and, as I said earlier, the monarch world is intriguing.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Childrens Publishing for an e-copy of AMERICAN ROYALS III: RIVALS to review.
I rate AMERICAN ROYALS III: RIVALS three out of five stars.
I both read and listened to Rivals, book 3 in the American Royals series. This is just as fun as the previous two although I am ready for book 4 and just hoping for happy endings for all the characters. There's always lots of drama going on in the lives of these royals and it was fun to listen to the latest installment.
If you haven't read any of these books yet, you need to read them in order because so much goes on in each book. Here we get another look at the lives of Queen Beatrice and Teddy, Samantha and Marshall, Jefferson and Nina and Daphne who are both wanting him.
American Royals shows a neat twist to the history of the United States and it's fun to think what if?
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

I was excited to receive this book from NetGalley. Having been a huge fan of the first American Royals I could not wait to see how the story would unfold. Beatrice has been made queen and Samanatha is now princess. As Beatrice makes plans for an international conference and is learning new things about being Queen of America.
I will admit that things did not pan out as I expected, but do feel the book concluded with a necessary end. Curious to see if there will be another American Royal book coming out or if this is how we will see Queen Beatrice and Princess Samantha continue their legacy.
American Royals III: Rivals by Katharine McGee is the third book in the American Royals series. I loved this book more than I did the second book! I loved how unlikely rivals began to work together. There is a huge cliff-hanger at the end of the book, leading us to believe there will be a fourth book in the series! I cannot wait for the next book! I gave this book 4 stars! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this title for my unbiased opinion.
I really have enjoyed this series!! I am already ready for the next one. This series just pulls you right in.

I loved reading this continuation of the American Royals. There was plenty of new plot lines to support the original storyline.
I read this book expecting that this was the end of the trilogy, so color me surprised when I got to the end (more on that in a minute) and discovered that this is book 3 in a series which will have at least 4 books. Yep, the story is not over, just way more complicated and deceptive and drama filled and angsty.
OMG that ending!! Out of all the cliffhangers I have read (and I feel like everything recently has had one), this is right up there with leaving me shocked and hungry for the next book. I legit have no idea what will happen next, I saw none of this coming so kudos to you Katharine McGee. And I really do worry that this world/series may not have a HEA in the future.
Okay, while I really liked the first two books and got incredibly excited for this one, it was a long and slow read for me. I think it was because there was such a huge gap between them that I simply wasn't as invested in the characters as I was before. Maybe the book wasn't as good as its predecessors, but I was just not feeling this one. It did take a long time and I finally got through it, but I felt like it was mostly just me finishing it so I could put it behind me, not because I was interested. Maybe I need to start from the beginning and try again? But that feels like so much, so it's unlikely that I will.
Unfortunately, this wasn't my favorite of this series, but I did still very much enjoy it. I love this world and I already look forward to the next book!
This book was by far better than the second one, but i think this story has become too dragged out. I know there will be a 4th one, but at this point I have lost interest in these characters.
So soapy, so frothy, so fun! There are a lot of repeated character and plot beats here, especially toward the end, but overall it's just a good time hanging out with these characters in this world. Even though they're rulers, the teen drama is what matters :) I don't know where I had gotten the impression that this would be the final book in the series, but the ending makes it clear that it's not. Because of the repetition, I'm not sure I'll pick up the next one. But who knows? Maybe by the time it comes out, I'll be ready for another dose of American Royals.
With an ending like this, there will not doubt be a sequel. Interesting alternative to America if Washington had not chosen to be a president.
