I've read the original version of this book written for adults and the YA adaptation is nice as well. A great story of friendship and bravery. I'm excited for the movie to be released in theaters soon and I think this would be a great book to cover in a YA "book vs movie" book club. My library will definitely be purchasing this book.
This is the first book that I have read that describes what our brave men were battling in the Korean War. It is a story of friendship in a time of racial inequality and how men from differing backgrounds are brought together to fight to keep others safe. It is a story of heroism in the midst of battle. The story is about two Navy pilots, one from New England and one from Mississippi, who fly over enemy territory to save some US Marines. As one of the pilots plane is shot down his friend has to make a split second decision on whether to try to save his friend behind enemy lines. What an inspiring and well-written book. A great read. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
