Not a bad recipe book it definitely needs a bit more work in my opinion and has potential to go further.
Most of the ingredients are difficult to find not to mention quite pricey and that's before you've even got the meal prep together, some of the recipes actually don't look the appetizing and I have to confess I flicked straight past those ones, others are slightly better.
Some of the ingredients - mushroom powder, cacoa nibs - (these are difficult to find and sooooo expensive) brazil nut butter, buckwheat, CBD.. (a bit strange) - I have to say, I don't think I'd find any of this in my local tesco express and the price of some of these made my eyes water!
Now I'm under no illusion that food is brain power and mind food is essentially that and to look after one's body and mind it does help to have decent food, but this cannot fix you mentally and that should be duly noted, also
The benefit to this book is that everything is made from scratch and so you know exactly what you will be cooking as it's easy for most levels and that nothing is coming from GM foods, E numbers etc as its mostly wholesome ingredients and that is the benefit, you know what you're putting in your food. That I agree with nothing packaged should be making its way into our food if we don't know what it is and if it doesn't state its ingredients.
St John's wort - seek medical advice before you start with this, it's not for everyone and can be dangerous to start without consulting your doctor first! Especially if you're already taking medications!
With thanks to Netgalley and publishers for this free ARC in return for my review.
This is a visually stunning book providing lots of great information and recipes to support a lifestyle that will enrich your life. I really enjoyed this and have bookmarked some of the recipes to enjoy with my family.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and author for allowing me to read and review this!
As a vegan I’m always looking for more plant based recipes! The pictures are gorgeous and I’m excited some of these recipes. Sometimes vegan recipes can be pretty complicated, but some of these seem easy enough. I would definitely recommend!
The photography is stunning and the recipes looked delicious. My only qualm is the stance on mental health. Food is important but it alone will not cure depression, anxiety etc. That being said, this is a great tool to have and a wonderful way to diversify your diet
Mind Food is a stunning cookbook, with photos that almost make it worth it alone.
It is focused on minimally processed whole foods, and from scratch cooking. The recipes are laid out by season, encouraging sustainable practices.
If you are interested in plant based eating this would be a beautiful addition to your kitchen.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Very informative book with a lovely layout and design! Perfect for those interested in nutrition/food as medicine.. Would highly recommended.
Mind Food is a holistic cookbook aimed at promoting positive mental health through food and eating well. There are beautiful photographs, delicious recipes and encouraging notes to read. I liked the dessert section best, but all the recipes are mouth watering. Just flicking through the book will give you the feel good factor.
I'm big on summer gardening and trying to eat as healthy as possible. I was enjoying this book until it disappeared from my Netgalley shelf, which was a shame. I would have dug into it deeper if I'd had the time, but what I did get through was good!
What a great way to eat. Seasonally and lovely. The pictures that go along with every recipe make you want to dive right in. Not every recipe is for everyone but this is more a jumping off point than a hard rule.
A great informative five star read! Lovatt presents an empowering approach to food and wellbeing which is nourishing, sustainable and good for both us and the planet.
Mind Food is a cookbook filled with plant based recipes and beautiful pictures!
My favourite thing about this cookbook is the pictures. I always love cookbooks that have photos of the recipes.
While I did find a lot of great recipes in this book, I will let you know that this isn’t a cookbook filled with ingredients that are everyday ingredients. I was also surprised to see CBD oil in some recipes.
Are there recipes in here I would make? You bet! But there’s also a lot I wouldn’t make. I love simple, easy to find ingredients and felt many of these recipes would have me hunting for ingredients.
This is a beautiful recipe book with some intriguing and thought-provoking concepts. I don't think I'll be making many dishes from this book, but I enjoyed leafing through the pages anyway.
[I received a copy of this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review]
This is a beauuutifully presented book, full of delicious ideas and recipes to soothe your mind. There are plenty I'd like to try. You will need to source some extra ingredients that may not be in your pantry, for example, buckwheat flour, miso and CBD.
If you want to be inspired to try something new, it's well worth a read.
My thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for the opportunity to review a digital copy.
Written from the heart and beautifully presented, chef and food educator Lauren Lovett's recipes offers more than just delicious meals, she also teaches us what foods feed our mind and lift our mood. Her personal experience having of a loved one with mental illness adds a compelling note to her research. These seasonal, tasty recipes bring the idea of "you are what you eat" to a whole new level. Lauren makes a compelling argument for introducing some lesser known superfoods in to our diet in her whole-food plant based recipes. Highly recommend.
This is a plant-based healthy eating cookbook that had lots of great recipes and beautiful photographs.
It's so wonderful to see plant-based cooking and cookbooks becoming more mainstream, and I appreciated that these recipes were well thought out and delicious-looking.
However, I think it is difficult to create a book that promises improved mental health through food and nutrition. While we all know food impacts how we feel both mentally and physically, the approach in the book is not a science-based one. There are a lot of references to the world/other people not being ready for the approach, and it being necessary for "good vibes" to go into your food. It says in the introductory pages that the reader should "Know you can do anything you set your mind to". With all due respect, I would suggest that this philosophy may not be helpful in the context of poor mental health - specifically for those suffering from diagnosed mental health disorders. In addition, the ingredients used will probably be difficult to afford for a lot of regular readers.
To be fair to the author, the book does mention that serious mental health issues should be treated by a medical practitioner, and that while there is research to support the uses of ingredients in this way, the book itself is not a research study.
If you are a believer in holistic practices and food as medicine, this may be the book for you. If you'd just like some new ideas about how to cook balanced plant-based meals, this may also be a good read.
Such a lovely book, so many great recipes and I love the photo’s which makes my mouth water!
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Really cool cookbook, would love to buy a physical copy to have around!
Mental health and food is often talked about but usually an underrated connection.
It's nice to see vegan and vegetarian dishes that are whole in their own right, not edited from an existing classic meat dish.
The recipes are interesting and sufficiently varied I think, with pictures of near enough everything (which I find to be one of the most important things in a cookbook). It's unusual and entertaining that the recipes are split into seasons, I think it's a nice touch.
I feel like it's a little preachy in places, a little too "this is the only way to live" for my liking, although I don't doubt it could help a person's general health considerably. A lot of the recipes are quite complex and not really suitable for every day cooking, but could certainly be showstoppers for special occasions.
I don't follow a full plant-based diet but it's a great book to have other ideas to turn to when you just need a reset and some refreshing foods.
Wonderful, delicious recipes for each season. Includes meals, drinks, and desserts. Each recipe is simple and the ingredients are healthy. I found the directions to be straightforward and easy to follow. The pictures are bright and make each item look delicious.
