Two families end up stuck on a family vacation when a volcano cuts off access to and from the island. Each person explores their reality and what they want for their future (and what they need to do to get there). I really enjoyed this book!
I am thankful for the electronic copy of the book that I received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I purchased the audible version on my own.
Thank you to NetGalley, Georgia Clark and Atria Books for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.
I honestly picked this up at the wrong time thinking it would be a slump buster, but it was a bit too long and complicated for that. I did like all the characters and all the angst involved in this one though. I loved that every person had something to work out and even if they didn’t end up perfect, they had a plan to better their lives. Who doesn’t love a book that takes place on a remote island anyway??
Should have learned from It Had to Be You... too many POVs to keep straight and too long of a book with side stories that could have been trimmed to alleviate the drag.
I read about 10% and couldn't get into this - after talking with some trusted sources I don't think this one is for me.
While I really enjoyed Georgia Clark's previous book, It Had to Be You, I didn't seem to gravitate as much to Island Time. I found all the different POVs to be a bit confusing to follow and it didn't flow as organically as it could have. I also didn't love the humor, but I fully recognize that is super subjective, so others may love it for that reason!! I liked that there was an LGBTQ story line and that there was background on aboriginal Australians. There is a lot of family drama, so that might be exciting for some readers! For me it fell sort of flat unfortunately.
Thanks to Atria, the author, and NetGalley for the free gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Georgia’s other book It Had to Be You (5-star book), so I had high hopes for this book since it was another multiple POV with many different couples. HOWEVER, Island Time did not have the page-turner aspect that It Had to Be You had.
There were too many POVs that were just way too slow, it was so predictable and there could have been so many better things done with this plot. I saw a lot of similar reviews to mine as well. I almost DNF but I kept having hope something wild would happen.
I liked the idea of the book, the overall plot, and the LGBTQIA+ representation throughout the book.
I didn't love this one. I found it hard to keep track of the multiple POV and a lot was happening. I felt like I was missing pieces and getting truly invested in the story because of how much was happening. I like her previous ensemble book a little bitter because of its cohesiveness.
I don’t have much to say about ISLAND TIME so I’ll keep this short. The synopsis and vibrantly beautiful cover drew me in, but that’s about where the positives ended for me.
The characters were not ones I connected with or felt any sort of positive emotion for and that left me uninvested. I also felt there were way too many POVs to try and keep track off.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Atria Books for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
When I started Island Time, I thought it would be a romance, but it’s really an ensemble novel. You get to know each member of the two families separately. I loved the family drama and the self-discovery. I learned a lot about Australian culture and the history of how they treated natives. I desperately wanted to visit this island, but sadly, I don’t think it exists.
An enjoyable read for an afternoon escape. Some of the humor was not right for me, but I put that aside.
Many thanks to Atria Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book wasn’t for me. I made it about 52% of the way before deciding to DNF or maybe go back to it later, but not likely.
I really loved the description and thought I’d enjoy the story more. There is a lot of characters which made it tough for me personally to follow along with. It also seemed like the story was a little slow to start, I feel like I wasn’t roped in even at halfway
I am soooo disappointed! I loved Georgia Clark’s book It Had To Be You. Lots of characters but all were endearing and I loved the NYC setting. This book is about a family meet up gone wrong. 2 very different families come together on a fairly remote Australian island at an eco resort. What was supposed to be a 4 day break turns into a 6 week imposed lockdown after a volcanic eruption and a tsunami. These characters were annoying and not like able. The different POV usually don’t bother me but it just did not work in this case. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC I exchange for an honest opinion.
This read was just what I needed to get out of a slump I have been in! It was engaging, easy to fall into and kept me thoroughly entertained. I love it when a story becomes like an afternoon spent with a good friend and "restores your soul" with its goodness and delight. This is a book of that nature. It is sure to bring a smile to your face and it will not disappoint!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this novel. I have to say this novel was not enjoyable as her other novel , " It Had to Be You". I really enjoyed that one and when. I saw this book, I wanted to read it because I thought the author was going to put out another great book. This one had too many POVs and it was not funny at all.
I loved it. It was a perfect read for something not too heavy and has great LGBTQ representation. 4 stars and a great end of summer beach read.
DNF, just not for us! I'm sure lots of people will enjoy it but we both couldn't get through it.
We didn't find it funny for being a "romcom" book
It was rather immature and a bit confusing.
Island Time is the story of families - drama, relationships, and love. The Kelly and Lee families are extremely different and tied together by the marriage of their daughters. When they are vacationing together, and a volcano erupts, the families find themselves stranded together for six weeks (instead of a few days) and drama unfolds. Clark's characters are quirky, funny, and true - she does a great job juggling all the different personalities and voices of each character. I did feel like this was just LONG - but hey, if you need a vacation from real life (who doesn't?) this book will most likely transport you beautifully to this remote island where these families begin to unravel and discover their true selves. Each character seems to have a lot of various burdens - work pressure, personal relationship issues, etc. If you enjoy family drama with a rom com side, and snappy dialogue - this book is for you!
This was my first Georgia Clark book I've read. I enjoyed the island setting and the diverse characters but this was a very slow start. It is also not a typical romance novel, which is what I thought it was when going into it. Rated it 3 out of 5 stars.
This one missed the mark for me as a romance. A lot of POVS and frankly too much to keep up with. Overall this was really long and drawn out and just wasn’t for me.
DNF.....
No rating....but it wouldnt let me save without it.
I had a hard time getting into this one and struggled to continue to read
