Jody Hedlund’s Colorado Cowboy’s series continues with the third book, To Tame a Cowboy.
I have enjoyed the first two books in this series and this one is no different. Hedlund’s story of the broken Civil War veteran turned cowboy and the lovely female veterinarian is an emotional and inspirational addition to the series. I enjoyed every minute of my trip to South Park and felt the cold of the snow and the wind in the manes of the mustangs that roam the area in Hedlund’s writing.

I loved the feisty Savannah who is on the run from a marriage she doesn’t want and is a master at the career that she does want. Brody has so many memories of the war that keep him from truly living as the man he was meant to be. Hedlund expertly brings them together in a story of intense feeling and love.

I believe that this story could be read as a stand-alone but is enriched by reading the other two books in the series. The author provides enough information of the back story that the reader will not be confused by characters that have appeared in previous novels.

I highly recommend this book to readers of clean historical fiction.

To Tame a Cowboy is the third novel in Jody Hedlund's Colorado Cowboys series. I have previously read book one, A Cowboy for Keeps and book two, The Heart of a Cowboy and this one might be my favorite! If you haven't read any of these books, I think you can read this one first and go back and read books one and two. You can also read them all in order if that is your preference.

Brody's story is gritty. He's back from the Civil War and dealing with his anger, disappointments, nightmares, and rage. Underneath the layers of trouble, he longs for peace. The only moments of calm are taming wild horses and bonding with his niece. When runaway veterinarian Savannah appears in town, she also brings a sense of calm to Brody.

I loved the deep emotions in this installment of Colorado Cowboys. People are many layered and it's not always daisies and rainbows in romantic fiction. Sometimes it's snowstorms and rough roads. Enjoy this one, readers. I am already looking forward to the next installment called Falling for the Cowgirl.

The hurt and healing process Brody and Savannah got through individually and together pulls on your heartstrings.

This was a very emotional book to read and listen to. I am really loving this series and the strong women characters paired with the men they fall for! I did get frustrated with Savannah at one point. I just wanted to give her my two cents!

Audiobook: Narrated by Susan Hanfield. She reads the book in a way that draws you into the story.

Side note: When things get busy I try to multitask when cleaning or painting or something I don’t have to think about. This allows me to be able to pay attention to the book. Have you tried this?

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.

How can you not enjoy a Jody Hedlund book? She really can write any genre! I really enjoyed this book and it completely gives you all the feels. The romance was sweet and definitely there and just perfect between these two characters. I really enjoyed the setting of pioneer times and how she transports you there with her details in the story.

In Brody's story you will find a lot of hurts and emotions. There is a struggle with PTSD so that could be a possible trigger for some. The healing process that comes through that was rewarding and I think the author did a great job with it.

I will say that this is one of those series that should be read in order, at least for me so you can better understand the characters and their storylines. I am anxious to read the next one! Surely Ivy will get her own story. If you enjoy historical fiction you will definitely enjoy this one!

Jody Hedlund has written a successful addition to her Colorado Cowboy series in To Tame a Cowboy. The two main characters Brody and Savannah are well developed and interesting because they are unconventional and have issues to solve. Brody's character explores the results of war on the returning soldier. Savannah's character explores the problems faced by women wanting to pursue a traditionally male career. The treatment of wild mustangs is still contentious. An enjoyable read.

Wow what an amazing book. This is book 3. Great as a stand-alone but amazing as book 3. You won’t want to miss it.

loved Brody’s story. Who can resist a brooding hero who needs healing? Veterinarian Savannah is the perfect women to help him get on the right path to it. This story has it all, a misunderstood and scarred hero, a gentle yet strong heroine, and a wonderful cast of supporting characters! Jody Hedlund did a fantastic job on the setting, especially describing the beautiful horses and the mountains. The love story felt so authentic and natural and was my favorite part. I enjoyed seeing characters from last stories, and I can’t wait for the next one!

I enjoyed To Tame a Cowboy which balanced two independent characters who eventually understand the value in leaning on one another. The plight of wild horses in the west was a great backdrop for the conflict and development of the love story. Great book from a great author.

Jody Hedlund turns out an impressive number of books each year, and she hits all the right notes. In fact, through the first half of To Tame a Cowboy, I thought things had become too formulaic. No surprises, not much creativity - though the writing is smooth, as always.

It was the last third of the book that brought the character depth and interest that I'd been hoping for, making the story satisfying. I appreciated Brody's character growth as he began to heal from the traumas he experienced during wartime and even before. Savannah's arc was less dramatic, though she, too, had lessons to learn.

I've grown to love the Rocky Mountain setting as this series has progressed. I'm looking forward to Ivy's story, as she's been the spunkiest of the McQuaid siblings.

What a beautiful story of pain, suffering, heart break, healing and love. Brody is broken after serving in the war and Savannah is a veterinarian who is being forced to marry a ranch hand on her daddy's ranch. She leaves in the middle of the night because she needs space and time to think. She's hired by Flynn McQuaid as their ranch Vet but in the process she helps heal Brody from his past and the nightmares that haunt him. She helps him heal along with her self. Such a great continuation of this great series
Thank you to the author a d NetGalley for my review copy.

To Tame a Cowboy by Jody Hedlund is the third book in the Colorado Cowboys series, and it has become a favorite of mine from this author! Savannah and Brody’s story is one of imperfections, scars, and brokenness but also about the beauty that comes through true healing and redemption. Brody is a strong, handsome, hot-tempered cowboy with a soft heart for helping the helpless. While his memories of the war are heartbreaking, and his journey of healing emotional, I enjoyed watching his heart come back to life again. The balance between Brody’s brokenness and the healing nature of Savannah drew me into this story completely and made me fall in love with their romance.
Savannah is an amazing young woman. I loved her gentle nature and her gift of seeing the beauty among the broken–especially the way she encouraged Brody as he fought his demons.
The characters’s inspirational journeys were not over-bearing but perfectly blended into the story and made me think about my own faith. I love it when a novel can challenge me as I’m reading.
Overall, I fell in love with Brody and Savannah’s story. Fans of historical romance (especially those who love stories set in the West) will want this book on their TBR. And I can’t wait until the next installment with Ivy and Jericho. I can already see the sparks flying!

I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy Brody's story or not. His character isn't in a good place when The Heart of a Cowboy ends. But a few years have passed and while Brody still isn't in the best place, things are better than they were at the end of the previous book. Jody Hedlund's choice to begin the book where she does help a ton because I was nearly immediately sucked into this story.

Savannah fled her home days before her wedding was to take place to a man she doesn't love. When Brody stops a fellow rancher from beating a wild mustang, Savannah jumps in to help the horse. She talks Brady and Flinn into taking her on as a temporary veterinarian on their ranch. Flynn agrees because he sees Brody's reaction to Savannah.

Brody has an almost instant connection and attraction to Savannah. I like how Jody Hedlund writes Christian stories, but she doesn't ignore the fact that very real physical things, desires, temptations, etc happen between couples that are attracted to one another. Savannah, Flora (Flynn and Linnea's daughter), and the wild mustangs are the only things that seem to bring Brody to life after the war.

I loved that Ivy was an active character in To Tame a Cowboy because she's so brash. She's young and has a lot to learn. I can't wait to read her story next.

I have to say that I was a little frustrated with how long it took Savannah to decide how to address her father's wishes for her. Regardless, I loved these two and their story.

Favorite quotes:
-"You're fighting demons with your fists, but from what I've seen, no one ever wins a battle with fists or strong drink or even ignoring the hurts."

-"This week, watching you tame that stallion, I couldn't help but notice that you have the most patience for the wildest of creatures. Maybe God has the most patience with the wildest of us too."

-She’d grown to admire Hades’s resilience, strength, and perseverance. He cared about his band, his mares and foals, and led them with dignity. And now he glanced in their direction. He nodded, as though communicating with them. Did he know they’d chased him only because they wanted to save his life? Did he realize the fear of the past couple of days would lead to his freedom? Maybe he’d never understand what they’d done, but she liked to think he was thanking them for their efforts anyway. Was that the way God was with His children? Did He drive them through difficulties, up steep mountains, because He cared and was leading them to better pastures? Even when they didn’t understand what He was doing, maybe He was asking them to thank Him regardless.

-"...wounds might shape us, but they can't determine who we are."

-...sometimes loving people meant letting them go through their difficulties instead of providing a way for them to escape.

I particularly liked the messages about Brody's struggles and what it took to bring him back to a relationship with God. I also loved Brody and Savannah's relationship growth. I'm looking forward to Ivy's story to come next. And honestly, there wasn't much I didn't enjoy about To Tame a Cowboy which means it gets 4 Stars. Have you read To Tame a Cowboy? What did you think? Let me know!

Jody Hedlund is one of the most prolific and diverse authors of Christian fiction. I love all of her books from historical fiction to the old west to medieval tales. To tame a Cowboy is her latest book in the Colorado Cowboy series which is projected to have five books total. I loved Savannah for her loving heart and also for her spunk in becoming a veterinarian in a man's world. Brody is a wonderful cowboy with a heart as big as the west. I loved how he overcomes his brokenness. I think this is my favorite cowboy book so far. I am definitely looking forward to Falling For The Cowgirl releasing on October 11th.

So grab a cup of joe and prepare for a great tale from the old west.

This is the third book in the Colorado Cowboys series and it would help if you read the first two books before this one, though you could probably jump in here if you want to.

Stories of redemption and self discovery are always some of my favorites so I enjoyed Brody and Savannah’s story as Brody began to find a reason to live after the war and Savannah discovered more and more of her own heart and desires. (I’d recommend anyone with war/battle/prison PTSD skip this book, because though the war descriptions were carefully written they were there and the loss and trauma Brody experienced is described).

Also, I have to say that there was a lot of flaunting of propriety that I’m not sure was true to the time period, even in Colorado, and physical attraction and desire played heavily in the story, even if the author kept it PG.

Since the author ended the book with a final chapter about another character entirely, I assume there is another book to come. And I’ll likely read it too.

This series is fairly easy reading with a moderate amount of tension and a bit of happily ever after.

I received a free digital galley of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was such a fun series to read and this last book was my favorite! Wounded heroes experiencing PTS tug at my heart and I love reading about their healing process. Brody and Savannah have an impact on each other for good, and Brody's family encourage their connection when they see the changes in him just from her presence. The plot with the wild horses was interesting as Brody and Savannah grow closer and develop amazing chemistry- great romantic tension as they struggle to work out what their futures hold in store. I appreciated the depth to the characters and the way the author skillfully allowed me to connect with their emotions. I can't wait for the next book!

Brodie McQuaid is a tough nut to crack in To Tame a Cowboy by Jody Hedlund, but oh boy, once you get past his shell into the heart of this man, you’ll just want to hug him.

Brodie is a loner among his four siblings. After the civil war, he’s returned home to Colorado, and his family worries about him. In fact, the only person who seems to make their way into Brodie’s heart quickly is his little niece (there is an extremely adorable scene with her tucking him into bed that you do not want to miss). And then Brodie meets Savannah and as he opens up to this female veterinarian, he endeared himself to me.

Hedlund gives a little bit of history to the wild horses in Colorado and some of the native people in this book, but it’s really all about the romance between Brodie and Savannah (which I’m here for because this author always does a fantastic job with romance).

And when I finished To Tame a Cowboy, I was already craving more. Good thing Ivy’s story is coming this fall.

Jody’s books are always amazing, but this one felt different. We’ve met Brody throughout the first two books through stories and recollections. Then we meet him in the convalescent hospital at the end of book 2. I was picturing that Brody would be broken, sad, wounded.

And don’t get me wrong, he is! But he is also so full of passion! I don’t recall ever reading about a male character that is both broody and shared sweet moments with his niece, grumpy but will help rescue newborn kittens, quiet but will get into a fistfight quicker than you can snap your fingers. I typically think we read about the quiet type being calm and composed. Keeping their strength within; well, Brody does that, but he also is like a Kansas tornado and will use his fists to fight it out. That kind of combo just fascinated me in this book.

And then we have Savannah Marshall, bride-to-be runaway. Just days before her marriage, she runs away to be her own self, a vet without the pressure from her parents to be “just a lady”. She meets Brody and it’s like at first sight. When Flynn McQuaid hires her to help out at the McQuaid ranches, for the animals but also with Brody, she jumps on board. But what horns when her heart becomes a little too attached?

My favorite parts of the story:
🤠Brody rocking Flora at night
🤠The Sketch Book
🤠Guiding & Relocating the Wild Mustangs
🤠The cabin
🤠Savannah learning how to stand up for what she wants.
🤠Ivy - she gave me all the crazy feels
🤠Brody’s fierce protectiveness & soft cinnamon roll inside

Jody Hedlund’s To Tame a Cowboy pairs sweet romance with western adventures.

I have to say I’m enjoying this series so far, but To Tame a Cowboy might be my favorite. I enjoyed Brody and Savannah’s developing friendship and the deepening relationship they share throughout the story. I also liked getting to see Flynn and Wyatt again. The developing relationships between the brothers felt realistic and was heartwarming to see.

The romance, though a bit quick, was well developed. Hedlund does a great job showing what draws Savannah to Brody and Brody to Savannah. Though they are physically attracted to one another, there’s a beautiful emotional draw there, too.

Brody’s spiritual arc was also beautifully developed. It was subtle, avoiding a preachy tone, but his journey is relatable and provides a lot of food for thought.

Overall, To Tame a Cowboy is a sweet western romance historical fiction fans will love.

A terrific western romance! Set a few years after the Civil War, featuring a brother who still suffers PTSD from his experiences in battle and Andersonville prison. Loved how Savannah was a perfect opposite for Brody--a positive and light disposition to his dark outlook. The romance sizzles and takes center stage. Peppered with spiritual insights throughout, adding another layer to their story.
This was the third book in the series, but easy to follow though I read it out of order. Reminded me of the All Creatures series with the veternarian scenarios, except set in Colorado's mountains. An enjoyable read!
