Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and Carla Kovach for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Carla Kovach really is the gift that keeps on giving. DI Harte is back for round 11 and what a story it is. It is creepy, dark and absolutely gripping. As usual I was gripped from the first few pages. I hope the DI Harte series continues as I am not ready to say goodbye to Gina just yet. I can't wait for the next instalment. I thoroughly recommend to anyone and everyone.

’m not generally a fan of procedural crime, but Carla Kovach delivered so much more, and I was invested from the first page. This was a well told tale of the unraveling of Annabel’s public life, as Detective Gina Harte works around the clock to figure out how she disappeared while out for drinks with her friend, Jennifer.

The layering and execution of the twists were done in a way that delivered just enough information to keep you guessing. Looking forward to reading more from Carla Kovach.

Teacher Annabel Braddock and crime scene tech, Jennifer Bailey are out for a night on the town. Annabel shares things with Jennifer about her marriage and decides that she is going to leave her husband Grant, as he is having an affair with their child minder/nanny. On the way home from the neighbourhood pub, Jennifer is hit and left die, while Annabel is taken. Jennifer ends up in ICU, put into a medically induced coma to allow her brain to stop swelling. Jennifer's partner is DS Jacob Driscoll, a member of Gina's team, which makes it even more personal. When Gina arrives at Annabel's house, her husband is not there and 5 year old Cally is being watched by their neighbour, Evan. As the story unfolds, suspects are added to the list. Did her husband snatch her, what about the child minder. The team also learns about a teacher who sexually harassed and possibly raped Annabel. There is also a student who has an unhealthy crush on her and has been watching her house. When her husband disappears and a person of interest is killed, there is a race to find Annabel and bring her home to Cally.

I started this series at book #7 and had no problem enjoying this series at that point. These stories can be read as standalones, but you will miss any character development and relationship building. This book was a very quick read for me as I wanted to know who had Annabel. The story is told by various POVs, but it was easy to follow and I enjoyed seeing what was happening through the eyes of various characters. My one issue is the "secret relationship between Gina and DC Briggs. It looks like it might be finished, which makes me happy. I felt Gina made a lot of bad decisions for a smart lady, so I am hoping she is moving on. As the investigation continued, I kept changing my mind about what was going on with the various red herrings that were shared. I was surprised at who the kidnapper was, but it was a fitting ending. There was one incident that make me very sad, but it also made the story more realistic, as everything doesn't end happily in life and crime. This series and book has interesting characters, intriguing plots and well written stories that make it an enjoyable and entertaining read. If you enjoy police procedurals, I recommend this book and series.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley. This is the eleventh book in the Gina Harte series, which I have loved since day one. I can’t believe we are so many books in. If you haven’t read all the previous books that’s okay as Carla gives you the information you need and like most police procedurals it's usually more about the case.
Gina and her team are like old friends to me now. O’Connor with his wife treats. Wyre and Kapoor. Even Bernard the CSI. This is a well-oiled team that have worked together for a long time now. But this case really hits home for DS Jacob Driscoll, Jennifer's boyfriend. Jennifer is also a CSI that works with the team. As you probably know when a case involves one of their own the police do not take it lightly. This case was hard for all of the team.
This case has so many suspects that it’s difficult to keep track of them all. From Annabel's husband to a creepy teacher there were a lot of threads but Carla expertly weaves the story together.
This story is very intense. It doesn’t really let up and it's very difficult to put down. Carla had me on the edge of my seat with this story not knowing what was going to happen next.
Another brilliant instalment in the series!

One Girl Missing is the latest in the Detective Gina Harte books. Though I remember most of the characters and their individual stories, it is still difficult to differentiate between them. None seem to have their own voice, so I often forget who is even in the scene. The romance with her superior which was so ill advised is just suddenly weirder. I would have hoped that by the 11th book in a series I would have favorite characters and be more invested in their lives. Instead, I was really only reading for the crime.

The crime itself was very predictable for the most part. I had picked the culprit out almost immediately. It was so obvious that I wanted to yell at the characters. Why are you not following up the leads that seem far more likely to lead you to the woman missing? Instead they seem to casually go from place to place with very little sense of urgency for a woman who was kidnapped right off the streets. The final reveal was just a little out there and the motive was completely ridiculous.

I have enjoyed this series in a quick read kind of way until this book. It seems like the author is not sure where to go with the characters because they really aren’t that fleshed out.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced ARC of One Girl Missing.
Teacher Annabel and her best friend DSI Jennifer are walking home from a night out when a car hits Jennifer, seriously injuring her and kidnaps Annabel.
DI Harte has to piece together the clues in time to save both Annabel and her 5 year old daughter Cally.
There are many suspects to follow from the cheating husband, to the creepy colleague and the obsessed student all of which have many secrets come out about them and their lives but do the secrets lead to Annabel.
This is the eleventh book in the DI Harte series and undeniably one of my favourites. It provided many twists and turns, kept me guessing and just wanting more, eager to turn the pages to find the suspect and getting not one but two shocks in the conclusion.
The characters were portrayed fantastically and really made you feel the dislike for some and the compassion for others.
Although this is part of a series, this book can be read as a stand alone although I highly recommend you read the other 10 books of the DI Harte collection because it is an amazing collection.
High praise for Carla Kovach for delivering an absolute explosive page Turner of a thriller and you will not regret this read.

Best friends Annabel and Jennifer are hugging each other goodbye at the end of a girls night out when a car speeds towards them. Jennifer is left unconscious on the ground and Annabel is nowhere to be seen, only her bag and spots of her blood left behind. Detective Gina Harte and her team are called in and as they investigate it soon becomes clear that there are multiple people who might want to harm Annabel. But can they figure it out and find Annabel before it’s too late?

The eleventh instalment in Carla Kovach’s Gina Harte series is another compelling thriller. There are numerous suspects in this case, each with a valid motive, and they are all on the run: a cheating husband, his young girlfriend who was also the family childminder, an angry father, a teenage pupil with a crush, a colleague she was rumoured to be seeing and a friendly neighbour. But who took Annabel? I was sure it was each of them at one point or another and even wondered if some of them were working together. It is a tangled web of suspicion that is full of so many twists and turns I thought I’d get book whiplash! But was my final choice the real culprit? Or had Ms. Kovach duped me again with her red herrings?

One of the things I love most about reading a series is coming back to the familiar, much-loved characters and I was glad to be back with Gina and her team. Gina is dealing with emotional turmoil after seeing Briggs out with another woman. Is this the end of her relationship? And the whole team face heartache as they wait to learn if one of their own will survive, Jacob being particularly tortured as he hopes the love of his life pulls through.
The new characters were well written as always. I felt a real bond with Annabel and could feel her terror as she’s held captive and wonders if she will ever see her young daughter, Cally, again. And it was Cally, along with teenage student Omar, who went right to my heart in this book. They were such great characters who it was impossible not to feel for. I was rooting for them, especially as young Omar takes it upon himself to save Annabel himself in order to keep her secrets.

Dark, suspenseful, gripping and action-packed, One Girl Missing is another riveting thriller from Ms. Kovach. Fans of this genre will love not only this book, but the whole series and I recommend them both highly.

I received this book for free from Bookouture via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This is book 11 in the Gina Harte detective series. It is the first book I have read in the series but I didn't have any problems getting into the story and it can be read as a standalone.

It was an action packed book that held my attention through out but I felt there were too many unlikeable characters with 'problems' and it all got a bit silly and over the top in the end.

It was an ok book I just didn't love it and I might read some of the earlier books in the series as it seems to have a good following and good reviews.

#11 in the Gina Harte series

3.5⭐️
This is my first dip into this UK Midlands crime series, perhaps not the smartest move jumping in at this stage in the series. It does however read well as a standalone.

I wanted to try this authors work as she is relatively local to me, and i like recognising areas.
I enjoyed the storyline. It keeps a decent pace throughout.

The character that I engaged with most is Omar, a love lorn teenage boy. It’s here if I’d read the rest of the series might have endeared me to the main characters more.

I didn’t gel with the writing style, Also it’s too far on the cosy side of the spectrum for my preference, although I have been swayed by a cosier series when I’ve engaged well with the characters.

Gina Harte and her loyal team find themselves encountering numerous dead ends and red herrings in this intense and gripping eleventh instalment in the outstanding DI Gina Harte series. What started as a fun girl's night out for best friend's Annabel and Jennifer has a shocking and tragic conclusion when a hit and run incident leaves Jennifer seriously injured and Annabel mysteriously disappears. The ensuing investigation is made more personal by the fact that Jennifer is the fiance of a member of Gina's team. After it becomes apparent that Annabel isn't lying somewhere nearby, badly injured or wandered off in shock and confusion but has actually been abducted, the team start digging into her life. Their enquiries uncover a number of viable suspects including Annabel's unpredictable husband and his young mistress, a overly helpful neighbour and a fellow teacher at the school where Annabel worked and with whom her husband suspected she was having an affair. The team find themselves in a desperate race against time to uncover who is behind Annabel's abduction and the reason behind her disappearance. Where was she being held and was she actually still alive? Would they be able to uncover the truth before time ran out for another innocent victim?

Because unbeknownst to Gina and the team, a clever, twisted and manipulative individual had been hiding in plain sight, patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity to enact the next part of their plan and had their sights set on Annabel's innocent five year old daughter Cally

This fast paced thriller is voiced from the perspectives of Gina, Annabel and a fourteen year old schoolboy called Omar. In Gina's chapters we follow the team as they investigate Annabel's disappearance, question the various suspects and uncover hidden secrets and deception whilst struggling with their own individual feelings of anger and grief. Gina was also dealing with her conflicting emotions over something that she had witnessed in the previous book Her Dying Wish. I must admit that considering she is supposed to be a highly intelligent woman, I didn't think that she handled that situation very maturely. Gina and her team are a really likeable group of individuals, each with their own unique personalities and character traits. I love how well they work together as a team and how each character is given his or her opportunity to contribute their own input into whichever case they are working on at that specific time. The author adds dimension to her characters by giving the reader some insight into their personal lives outside of work but not so much information that it feels like padding and bogs down the flow of the story. I also love how the scenes that are set in the police station concentrate on the actual investigation and don't include scenes where Gina is constantly having to justify her decisions and being undermined by her superior officers.

Annabel's chapters were nerve wracking and packed full of tension and atmosphere as we witnessed her desperate battle stay alert and figure out where she was and who was holding her captive. Her overwhelming feelings of fear for the safety and wellbeing of her beloved daughter were all to realistic and relatable to anyone who has ever been a parent. Annabel's marriage hadn't exactly been a happy one and she had recently been hurt and betrayed by someone she had trusted but surely someone she knew couldn't be behind her currently situation....could they?

Interspersed throughout the book was chapters that were written from the perspective of fourteen year old Omar who was one of Annabel's students and had a bit of a overpowering crush on her. Little did he realise that his feelings would result in him endangering his own life. I really really liked Omar, his background story was authentic and realistic as was the way that he was treated both at school and at home. Like everyone,he had made mistakes but then who hasn't, nobody is perfect especially when you are at a age where your hormones are starting to play havoc with your emotions. Like everyone,he just wanted to feel accepted by his peers and not feel like everything he did was wrong which would have been a refreshing change especially when it came down to his mother. Would Omar finally get his wish? If you want to find out the answer to that question then you will just have to get hold of a copy of this emotionally charged thriller and find out for yourself.

Omg, wow....just wow, this is a absolutely brilliant, addictive series and this latest instalment is no exception. It's a intelligently written, fast paced, intense and gripping, gritty read that is packed full of twists and turns, kept me guessing and glued to my kindle. This latest instalment subjects the reader to a rollercoaster ride of emotions and even had me close to tears at one point of the story. Although this is the eleventh book in the series,it can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. Once I had started reading One Girl Missing,I was completely hooked in and would have read the whole book in one sitting but unfortunately my old eyes refused to cooperate. This is definitely one of my favourite reads of the year so far, worth far more than five stars and very very highly recommended.

One Girl Missing by Carla Kovach is the 11th in the Detective Gina Harte series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:  (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
DI Gina Harte works homicides. Her team consists of: DS Jacob Driscoll, DC Harry O’Connor and DC Paula Wyre, with a lot of assistance from PC Smith and PC Kapoor. Gina is a stubborn lady, and a determined detective. She has had a rough life, which has led to an uneasy relationship with her daughter and grand-daughter.  It has also led to a lack of real friends, and an on-again/off-again relationship with her boss, DCI Chris Briggs. It is not common knowledge that her husband was abusive, and only Briggs knows that she did not save him when he fell to his death many years ago.

My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
DS Jacob Driscoll's girlfriend Jennifer Bailey, a crime scene technician, is found unconscious on the road, an obvious hit and run scenario.  They aren't sure she will make it.  She and her best friend Annabel Braddock were out drinking at a local pub.  Annabel is missing, and it looks like whoever hit Jennifer, took Annabel.

Annabel and her husband Grant have been having some issues, but there is no way she would willingly leave her 5-year old little girl behind.  Cally thinks there is a ghost in the yard, but maybe she saw someone spying on them?

Annabel's abusive husband Grant isn't the only suspicious character in her life.  There is also his young girlfriend, and Annabel's colleague at work, and a student who has a very big crush on her.  Or perhaps it is someone hiding in plain site.  Gina has her work cut out for her.

Meanwhile, Gina saw Chris with another woman, and it seems that her personal life is taking another hit.

My Opinions:
What is with the covers to these books...they have nothing to do with the contents?  As well, I was really glad to see that Gina's dead husband had no role in this one!

The story is told by different people, and the author provides clues to the perpetrator slowly, through these voices.  That was done very well.

I really liked the characters, as they continued to gain depth as the story went on.

The plot was really good, and dealt with abusive relationships, schoolboy crushes, stalking and obsession.  The pace and action were good, and nothing dragged.

Overall, this was one of the better ones in the series!

Annabel is done- her bestie, Jen, takes her out for drinks to destress. On their way back to Annabel's, a car strikes down Jen. Strong hands grab Annabel. Then there is only dark.
Gina Harte and her team are on the case. Including Jacob, Jen's devestated partner. Together they work to uncover leads. But everyone seems to be lying.
The husband is missing. The love struck student desperately stalks Annabel's house for clues. The husband's mistress is a mess. A teacher accused by a female coworker of assault. Gina can't even begin to unthread the clues.
Gripping. Terrifying. Love these characters.

Brilliantly plotted and told from the heart. DI Gina Harte is the central character in an outstanding ensemble cast racing against the clock to bring home a missing woman. The stakes are through the roof because of the personal connection to another victim who was left for dead after a hit and run and because of the role children play in the story. I won’t give away anymore-there are twists and turns throughout that shouldn’t be spoiled, but I will say that this book has a gut-wrenching ending. The characters are so relatable; you really feel their pain and heartache as they go about their lives. Gina and Briggs’s personal relationship adds deep emotion as they take the weight of the world on their shoulders. Despite her courage and investigatory skills, Gina makes human mistakes and cannot always put everything right or save every life. Briggs has similar issues and the psychological trauma they suffer on and off the job presents a challenge to their relationship. The mystery is fantastic and draws to a satisfying and unexpected conclusion, but it’s the humanness of the characters that will keep you coming back for more of the series. Five fantastic stars!

This latest Gina Harte story is a real page-turner.

Crime Scene Investigator Jennifer and her friend, school teacher Annabel are involved in a hit and run accident, with Jennifer left for dead and Annabel seemingly disappearing.

As Jennifer lies unconscious in a hospital bed, the story emerges about Annabel’s unhappy marriage, to an unfaithful husband, it become clear that at least one person would be happy if Annabel never returned.

Meanwhile Annabel is held captive, the thought of her daughter Cally is the one thing that’s keeping her going.

Meanwhile Gina is struggling with her own emotions when it looks like Briggs has found a new love, when she sees him with another woman.

This is a cracking read, it is good that the demons of Gina’s past have finally been squashed, leaving her clearer headed to investigate.

As for Briggs? If he has given up on Gina, then he’s an idiot. I look forward to the next book and seeing where they are in their relationship.

I wish to thank the publisher and Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for my unpaid, unbiased review

It’s always an exciting time when a new Gina Harte book comes out! I love the series and I love her! One of the things that amazes me is how each book follows the same pattern….
A crime is committed.
There are, at this point many possible subjects….
The suspect pool becomes smaller, and you know it isn’t going to be suspect a, b or c because this is Carla Kovach and it is never that easy.! You then spend a large portion of the book looking for the most obscure suspect from the pool - thinking you are cleverly sussing out who did it……but it’s never that one either! Eventually you give in trying to guess and let the absolutely belting story drag you in, while feeling slightly smug that you knew it wouldn’t be suspect d or e, but a little sad you didn’t guess who it actually was! My heart (no pun intended) was absolutely broken at the end though - and I clearly need a rethink for the next book please!! Brilliant read

Number 11 of a series, though the first I have read. It was fine as a stand alone, though may have given more background information about the investigation team if I had read more. I will look out for more from this author.
The initial hit and run leaves one woman severely injured and another missing. Her life is complicated, her marriage on the rocks and a few men in her circle also interested in her in an unhealthy way. Lots of possible suspects which adds lots of interest to the investigation.
The police characters are ok, though this is where I missed some information. Lots of twists in the plot and all in all a great read.
Thank you to Net Galley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'One Girl Missing' by Carla Kovach.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Carla Kovach, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 9th March 2022.

This is the fifth book I have read by this author. It is also the eleventh book in the 'Detective Gina Harte' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Their Silent Graves' which is the seventh book in the 'Detective Gina Harte' series, 'The Broken Ones' which is the eighth book, 'One Left Behind' which is the ninth in the 'Detective Gina Harte' series and 'Her Dying Wish' which is the tenth book in the 'Detective Gina Harte' series and I would recommend them all.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'If you love fast-paced, gripping crime thrillers that keep you up all night, you’ll be completely addicted to One Girl Missing. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Cara Hunter and Clare Mackintosh' I am a huge fan of Angela Marsons so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Carla Kovach and if this is half as good as 'The Broken Ones', 'One Left Behind', Their Silent Graves' and 'Her Dying Wish' it is sure to be an epic read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 68 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 , UK 🇬🇧 . I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture where the scenes are set at times. I have in fact visited England on many occasions including going there on holiday last and this year so am looking forward to possibly recognising name places.

This book is written in a mix of third and first person perspective and the protagonists are Annabel Braddock, Detective Gina Harte, Omar Abidar and Jacob. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. To have the benefit of both first and third person perspective ensures you don't miss out on anything.

'One Girl Missing' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Carla discusses/includes stalking, secual assault l, domestic abuse and rape.

WELL, WELL, WELL CARLA DOES IT AGAIN!!!! YET ANOTHER EXPLOSIVE PAGE TURNER BY AN EXTREMELY TALENTED AUTHOR!!

This book is yet another riveting installment in this gripping and addictive series. Filled with vivid descriptions it is easy to get lost in the pages for hours. The cover and synopsis work perfectly with the storyline. This book hit every possible emotion and I loved every part of it.

The storyline was unique, very fast paced, realistic and filled with suspense, tension, secrets, action and lots red herrings to throw you off the scent. I was completely invested in the storyline and completely shocked by who the killer turned out to be and never expected them in the slightest!!! I always love it when I'm shocked as there's nothing worse than working out the killer and your not even half way through the book yet. The plot has so many layers and so many twists, turns and mini plots there is always something to keep you on the edge of your seat!!! I love that several chapters are from the perspective of several different people including a victim which gives an excellent insight to how they are feeling and what they are going through. This book discusses domestic abuse, stalking and rape and I am a huge believer that all of these should be discussed more often to help victims of either realise there is help available out there and they are not alone. As always Carla has done an immense amount of research and it shines throughout the book. It also highlights what a parent would do for their child. An extremely well written and thought provoking action packed crime thriller. The descriptions were so vivid I could feel the freezing cold water in some pages and the hair raising on my arms. It is filled with loss, crime, suspense, tension and is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The ending had me choked up as did several events in the book so I would have the tissues at the ready!! As always this book has left me wanting more in the Gina Harte series!!

CLEAR YOUR SCHEDULES BEFORE STARTING THIS AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!!

Although this is the eleventh book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I love Gina and the fact that she is a strong female role model who has got a history herself makes it even better. I enjoyed meeting all the previous characters along with many new ones who all had their own personalities and were STRONG characters, well maybe not all!! A certain character, a few actually I could not stand but I'm extremely pleased that particular characters got their comeuppance, I won't say more than that as I don't want to spoil it for others but once you've read it I'm sure you'll know who I mean. I love the dynamics in Gina's team and the fact they all work so well together. Each of her team has their own unique traits and personalities and I love meeting them in each new storyline that Carla brings out. My heart particularly went out to Jacob and Gina in this book, I won't say anymore than that as not to spoilt it for future readers. It also broke for Omar and his mum, you will see why when you have read this amazing book!! I am looking forward to meeting them all again when I read more of the fabulous Carla's books.

If you have never read this series I highly recommend starting now. It is always great if you can start at the beginning of a series but the brilliant thing with Carla's books is that it really doesn't matter where you start as they can be read in any order.

THIS IS A MUST READ, ACTION PACKED, UNPUTDOWNABLE PAGE TURNER THAT WOULD MAKE A BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE/TV SERIES. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT HAPPEN!!

CONGRATULATIONS CARLA ON YET ANOTHER EXPLOSIVE INSTALLMENT IN AN EPIC SERIES!!! This is exactly why you are in my top 3 crime authors and series list!!

Overall a page turning, psychological thriller that will leave you shocked and wanting to read more of this incredible series

Genres covered in this novel include Psychological Fiction, Crime Fiction, Thriller, Police Procedural, Mystery and Psychological Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, C. L Taylor, Tess Gerritsen and anyone looking for an addictive and explosive series.

359 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.
