One Girl Missing – Carla Kovach
It’s an early April evening when Annabel & Jennifer, friends since childhood, are leaving a pub and walking to their car for the ride home. Out of the blue, a vehicle comes flying down the road, striking Jennifer. As Annabel looks on in horror and tries to call for help, she is grabbed from behind and shoved into the truck of the car, her last vision of Jennifer, bloodied and still, lying in the street.
Detective Inspector Gina Harte and her colleague Jacob Driscoll are just wrapping things up for the night, when he mentions that he can’t in touch with his girlfriend Jennifer. As he’s making some coffee, Gina gets a phone call from another colleague, reporting the accident – and the victim’s identity to her – as well as the apparent disappearance of Jen’s friend Annabel. As Jacob heads to the hospital, Gina heads to the scene.
As the police canvas the area, it becomes readily apparent that Annabel is nowhere to be found. A visit to her home finds Annabel’s father babysitting Cally, her daughter. There Gina learns of an unraveling marriage, due to a husband’s affair and drug use. With a possible suspect in mind, Gina and her team search for Annabel’s husband. A neighborhood canvas brings similar information, along with the possibility that someone has been watching Annabel. Young Cally also is convinced she’s seen a ghost at night in the garden.
As the team searches diligently for Annabel’s husband, his young lover, and potential clues to her whereabouts, Jennifer lies comatose in the hospital, having undergone emergency surgery for head trauma. Remembering their arguments about paint colors for their new home, Jacob is despondent as he helplessly watches her fight for survival…
Told from the perspectives of Gina, Annabel, and the young, infatuated Omar, this is a fast paced, edge-of-your-seat, page-turner that kept me up well into the night. I love Gina’s character, and her flaws, and I am hopeful that perhaps she and Briggs still have a chance at love. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!! Great as a stand-alone as well as in series sequence!

This is the 11th book in the Detective Gina Harte series by author Carla Kovach.
I have only read a couple of the books in this series but each one has gripped me and I do intend to read the others. Interesting characters, intriguing plots and well written stories make this series a good read.
Two friends are on a night out, teacher Annabel Braddock and CSI Jennifer Bailey, witnesses state that Annabel was upset. On leaving the pub the women make their way home when a car drives towards them. Jennifer is hit by the vehicle and lies unconscious in the road while her friend Annabel is abducted by the driver.
This is an all action novel and proved to be an exciting read.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley...mystery and intrigue...friendship...family dynamics...kidnapping...hit and run...careers...romance...love...themes running throughout this book written by a talented author. It is a page turner...curl up for an afternoon for this quick read... The story does move somewhat slowly at times with a plethora of details. That being said, there are so many red herrings that it is difficult to discern the outcome of this book. This author is amazing...
Book 11 and the DI Gina Harte series is still going strong. This was a very tense story. The drama started at the very beginning and didn’t let up until the very end. Teacher Annabel Braddock is having a night out with her friend CSI Jennifer Bailey. Witnesses say Annabel looked upset and was crying. As the women leave the pub a car speeds towards them, Jennifer is knocked unconscious and seriously injured and Annabel is abducted.
Annabel Braddock has been besties with Jen since they were little, they tell each other all their highs and lows and enjoy their nights out together. This time though they both looked worried and Annabel was in tears as they chatted in their local pub. Tragedy struck as they walked back through the dark, deserted, streets leaving one of them seriously injured and no sign of her friend.
I absolutely LOVE this series it’s an auto-read for me. The author never fails to hook me from the start and not let me go until the last page. Compelling and addictive with twists and turns it’s a perfect crime thriller. The storyline flows smoothly and it’s packed with characters that bring the story to life. l have come to know and admire DI Gina Harte, she feels so real to me, Guess that shows why l highly recommend this book and am eagerly awaiting the next installment
This is book 11 of the Gina Harte series and it is a riveting rollercoaster ride, for sure. The many twists and surprises throughout make for a fast-paced and exciting read that I just could not put it down. I was hooked from the first page to the last.
In this book, following an accident, a woman is holding on for dear life at the same time her best friend is missing. Detective Gina Harte and her team pull out the stops to try and locate her despite several challenges along the way.
Things I look for in a fiction read are the ease of reading, the likability of characters, and the plot. This particular book was an easy page-turner. The characters were likable and the plot was exciting.
I can’t wait to read more from this series. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Carla Kovach for the opportunity to read this ARC!
I don’t quite know how Carla Kovach does it, she releases a new DI Harte novel seemingly every few months and yet the standard never slips at all.
This is a terrific novel, all the elements you want from a good crime novel. Plenty of suspects and red herrings and the story moves along at the perfect pace. Just enough content on DI Harte’s personal life, but not too much to spoil the story. I absolutely loved it!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
What an enjoyable ride into the world of Gina Harte. This was my very first Carla Kovach book and when I saw that it was #11 in a series I wondered if it would be understandable and then in reading the synopsis I was intrigued. Gina Harte is a Detective Inspector that investigates cases in the United Kingdom, she is called to the scene of a hit and run with an unconscious female left on the ground and a second woman is missing. There were a number of twists and turns in the book that held my interest and while the suspect I had in mind turned out to be correct it was still a very gripping story that I enjoyed. I also appreciated that I didn't need to know the background of DI Harte to enjoy the book and this book has led me to putting other books by Carla Kovach on hold. A special thank you to Carla Kovach, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book to review.
This latest in the series is so good! It gets back to the nitty gritty of a complicated case with a large cast of suspects. There are multiple view points that give depth to the story. Gina and her team are really put through the ringer on this one, especially Jacob. The mystery was action packed with a couple surprises I didn't see coming. By the end I decided I really hate Briggs. I hope someone new and much better comes into Gina's life. I can't wait to see where things go from here. The next book can't come fast enough!
Fantastic, fantastic and fantastic. I love this series it gets better with every book. I'm looking forward to reading more
I love this series. It just keeps getting better.
Gina Harte is the tough boss investigating the disappearance of a local high school teacher.
The options are endless - the cheating husband, colleague who knows things, husbands brother, neighbour, father.
They all have something to hide and I didn't pick how it all washed up.
Another excellent addition to this series.
One Girl Missing by Carla Kovach
I give this book 4.5 stars
Five-year-old Cally waits in her pretty pink bedroom for the sound of the front door opening and her mother’s sweet voice in the hall. But when the doorbell finally rings, and Cally creeps out of bed to peer through the banister, a large man in uniform is all she sees. Her mother is missing...
This is book 11 in a series,it can be read as a standalone but l urge you to read the others (you won’t regret it)

With thanks to Netgalley,Carla Novach and Bookouture for my chance to read and review this book .
A hit and run and an abduction and so much more. This book had me gripped in it's pages and would not let go. My suspect list was growing and I was constantly changing my mind. Gripping, intense and packed to the rafters with tension and suspense. This author certainly knows how to tell a story. Another book that deserves more than five stars and a real workout for the grey matter. Loved it and another fantastic addition to the Gina Hart series.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
Another fantastic edition in the amazing Gina Harte series I have followed this series since the beginning and I would recommend that to get the full picture and enjoy the books to their full worth all the books in the series should be read.
So book ten was a bit under par for me based on the others that I have read in the series but book eleven has reset the standard for me.
I just love how it is reflective of not all endings being happy ones it just shows life's challenges and makes it real.
It was a engaging read that keep me on the edge of the seat throughout and just when you thought you had it all sussed out you thought wrong and there was a few red herrings along the way that certainly had me fooled.
Jennifer’s boyfriend is DS Jacob Driscoll on Gina team and he is gutted. The hospital cannot tell him if Jennifer will make it. Meanwhile Annabel’s daughter, 5 year old Cally, is yet to learn of her mother’s fate.
There are many suspects for this crime. Annabel’s husband, Grant, who has been having an affair with young Taylor Caldwell, who often babysat Cally (that old cliché). The couple had been heard arguing a lot lately and Annabel thought her marriage was over. Grant had thought Annabel was having an affair but that was him jumping to a wrong conclusion. Taylor herself is a suspect as she expected Grant to leave Annabel and marry her but was dragging his heels.
There is also a creepy teacher at the school who has had a complaint against him. He is a real piece of work as the police learn but is he the kidnapper? There are others in the frame too. It doesn’t help that police cannot seem to find the vehicle that struck Jennifer. And Cally reports that she has seen a man outside her window. Is someone stalking Annabel?
On the personal side, Gina’s secret relationship with DCI Chris Briggs seems to be over as she sees him with another woman. What is going on there? The pace never let up as there were further very serious crimes committed. Annabel is tied up somewhere but will she be found in time?
This was another excellent instalment in the series. The characters, by now, are like old friends and the plotting was crisp as always. I really enjoyed this book. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.
3.5 Star read
This was a solid read but it didn’t grip me as much as book #10 did. The limited pool of suspects made the outcome a bit more predictable; however, in true Kovach style you’re not 100% sure whodunit until the final reveal. While this is #11 in the series, it can stand alone.
I saw one reviewer refer to this as cozy crime and I guess you get that feeling in terms of how neatly everything wraps up; but one thing I have learned about Kovach, she is not afraid to kill off a character. Nobody is safe! For me that means it doesn’t quite fit into the cozy crime genre, but it also isn’t a gritty or dark series. Somewhere in between! While this one wasn’t my favourite DI Harte book, I still enjoyed it and will definitely pick up another.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a free digital copy in exchange for a fair review!
An emotional rollercoaster….
Twisted, cheating, stalking, rage filled, delusional men providing a string of suspects who could be responsible for missing school teacher Annabel. Book 11 in the series also delivers an emotional rollercoaster as we wait to find out if Jennifer will be ok and for Gina, has she finally lost the love of her life.
If you love this series it will not disappoint, just make sure you have the tissues handy.
Absolutely marvellous. This writer has pace and story rolled up into one hell of a good tale. I use the word writer as anyone can be an author but a writer is something else. Just brilliant!
Another brilliant instalment of the Gina Harte series, can’t get enough of these books. Although it’s a series you could read these as standalone but would thoroughly recommend the whole series! Brilliant characters, fantastic plot and twists 5 ⭐️
DI Gina Harte is called to the scene but clues are hard to find and there is the added pressure of all the officers involved knowing one of the victims and needing to find out what happened. With no witnesses to interview Gina looks into the lives of those involved finding a surprising amount of reasons for the attack but not to who took matters into their own hands?
In this eleventh book of the Gina Harte mystery series there is an awful lot happening but at no time was it difficult to follow even with numerous twists, turns, and red herrings. Gina has a past which explains her personal relationships with family and colleagues while her determination to always fight for the victim is as strong as ever. This doesn't mean starting from book one is an absolute necessity but it is definitely a pleasure.
The case this time is multi-layered and fast moving which I absolutely loved but, for me personally, I felt a little deflated at the end. This doesn't detract from the excellent writing and storytelling however and, with hindsight, the loose ends I hoped to see sorted will be a brilliant place to start from in book 12!
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. One Girl Missing is an expertly crafted murder mystery which I raced through and happily recommend.
DI Gina Harte has been called to a hit and run of one of their own. The hit and run isn’t as straightforward and soon it seems a local teacher, Annabel, has gone missing. With the main suspect on the run will they find Annabel before it’s too late.
Gina also has her on and off relationship with Briggs to contend with as the whole relationship seems to be passing her by.
I love this series and finally Gina seems to have moved on from her past and is more stable than she was before. This was really fast paced and one I really enjoyed. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
