Misty M. Beller loves writing mountain stories set in the 1800s. Her second book in the Brides of Laurent series, A Healer’s Promise, demonstrates her ability to take us back through history to unknown and interesting native peoples of the hidden village of Laurent.

The village’s healer, Audrey Moreau encounters a stranger, Levi Masters with suspicious intent. Audrey’s first priority is to protect her loved ones, so she warns the village of Masters’ arrival.

Levi is a British spy without a war, yet he, too feels his first priority is to protect his country from any American future aggression. Yet, he’s tired of being a spy and all that comes with that job.

Although this is book 2 of the series, I had no trouble getting into the community of Laurent and its citizens. Beller has given us beautiful descriptions and interesting insights into “healers” of that time period. Almost makes me wonder what we’re missing today.

I recommend this book for lovers of historical, romance, and adventure.

I received an ebook from Bethany House Publishers through #NetGalley for an honest review.

I am reviewing a copy of A Healer’s Promise through Bethany House and Netgalley:

She had been called to be a healer, but never before were her heart and tears so tested.

Levi Masters time as a British Spy, had not yet ended, despite the fact that the countries was no longer at war with America. After overhearing a scout reveal a discovery that could give America the upper hand in future conflicts, Levi is sent on one last mission. While trekking through the Canadian Rockies in pursuit of his former enemy, he is taken captive by warriors from a hidden mountain village.

Audrey Moreau, a village healer finds herself more curious than afraid of the outsider, and she's drawn to his commitment to honesty even at his own expense. Despite arguing for his release the council remains at an impasse. Compelled to help him escape, she sneaks him out of the village. But when Levi faces a life-threatening injury and the fierce mountain winter closes in, Levi and Audrey are forced to discover just how far they'll go to ensure the safety of the other and the love growing between them.

If you’re looking for a book filled with romance and intrigue, then I highly recommend A Healer’s Prayer.

Five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

A Healer’s Promise was such an enjoyable book to read! I loved watching the two main characters, Audrey and Levi, connect. I liked that very early on in the book, Levi dealt with his internal struggle concerning actions he had taken during the war and determined to simply tell the truth and trust in God’s guidance and deliverance. While he answered the councils questions truthfully, he was also human and nervous about the upcoming verdict. When Audrey compelled him to take a chance and escape rather than face the community's decision, he went with her. From there, one thing after another ended up going wrong.

This book was a good illustration of how actions have consequences and that truly trusting in God is not always easy. Sometimes fear propelled the steps that these main characters took.

I really enjoyed the way the initial attraction between Audrey and Levi grew toward love as they passed the time together and got to know each other. They were both very likable characters with good hearts. Their story was captivating and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

This second book in Misty M. Bellar's Brides of Laurent series is just as delightful as the first. It was such a pleasure to once again visit the hidden community of Laurent in the Canadian Rockies. The themes of not getting ahead of God, but rather waiting on His guidance and timing, and the importance of extending grace and mercy as He has done for us are well-developed in the tale of the community's healer, Audrey Moreau, and Levi Masters, a British intelligence officer. The value of putting others first is also essential to the story. While this is the second book of the series, it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone read.

I highly recommend A Healer's Promise to fans of historical fiction, especially to those who wish for a place where a sense of true community thrives. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Her gift is healing - no matter who
When a man shows up at their village - and the elders do not trust him they lock him up. BUT she feeds him . .. and treats him. And helps him escape because she does not agree with their treatment of him. And ends up helping him for quite some time, even though she knows they are looking for them . . . .THIS book - amazing - could not put down. As always Misty Beller writes a great book!!!

Thank you to @bethanyhousefiction for a gifted copy of A Healer's Promise by Misty M. Beller. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed Levi and Audrey's story. Audrey is a healer and she is the only one who trusts Levi Masters when he arrives at the secret village, Laurent. In her fear for his safety she helps him escape. Did she make the right choice? Can he be trusted?

A Healer's Promise is the second book in the Brides of Laurent series. It does work as a stand alone or it can be enjoyed as part of the series. I'm looking forward to the future books in this series.

This book is so good! It hooks you on the first page and doesn't let go. Audrey and Levi's story is full of adventure, danger, and romance. The author brings this book to life with her words and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's an inspirational read that you don't want to miss. I highly recommend this book and book one The Warrior's Heart.

Laurent is a village in the mountains, a place that we might call utopia. Strangers to their tiny community might be dangerous, seeking to do them harm. Levi Masters was a British soldier, bringing with him memories of past horrors. Could this man be trusted?

Audrey Moreau is the village healer. She has spent many hours learning from those who came before and spends her days harvesting the necessary herbs to keep the village healthy. Will she get herself into trouble by seeking to help one who is perhaps undeserving?

What a lovely story of grace, putting the past behind and learning to accept the love of God for oneself. These well-developed characters have much to show us if we just consider their circumstances and how they realized the importance of setting the Lord first. With Him at your right hand, you will not be moved.

This ARC of book 2 in the Brides of Laurent series was received through Baker Publishing Group, Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley. These thoughts and impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

I love Misty M. Beller’s mountain stories, and A Healer’s Promise is a wonderful addition to her Brides of Laurent series. Audrey intrigued me in book one (A Warrior’s Heart) and finding out more about her backstory endeared her to me in ways I didn’t expect. Levi was also an interesting character—his history with Evan was incorporated well into the story. I also loved getting to see Evan and Brielle together again! I’m excited for Charlotte’s story next. 4/5 stars

I have been patiently waiting for this book, the second in this series. Ms. Beller writes stories from her heart that extends to your heart as you read. I loved this book and had a very hard time to put it down and do other things I needed too! In the first book we met the wonderful people of Laurent and Brielle the female leader of the warriors that protect and hunt for meat for the residents of Laurent. We also may Evan McManus, an American spy searching for a special mineral that may help the Americans to win the way against the British. We get to continue learning more about these two as the series continues. We also get to see into the life of Audrey, who we learned in the first book has a gift of healing. When Evan returns to Laurent after reporting to his command, he unknowingly brings a British citizen with him. There are so many different ways of love in this book, that you will feel the tears sting your eyes as you pray along with the characters for God to intervene. I loved this story and the many situations the characters found themselves in, from the pounding of my heart as I felt the fear and the love. I can hardly wait to read the next book in this series! Well done, Misty Beller!
I received a free download of this book from Netgalley and the publisher Bethany House. This review is totally my own honest opinion of a truly enjoyable book!

I really enjoyed this excursion into the Canadian wilderness. Laurent is an isolated town in a secluded sanctuary in the Canadian Rockies. British spy Levi Masters was intrigued enough by what he overheard American spy Evan MacManus report to make the long trip north to follow him on his return trip. Yet during the whole journey he struggles with the cost of his role as a spy and becomes determined to leave lying and deception behind. With the war over, he comes to the conclusion to leave the past behind as he is captured by the town.

Influenced by a distrustful Evan, the council plans to make a decision concerning his fate. Town healer Audrey Moreau has a soft heart and while she is convinced Levi is telling the truth, she is terribly worried the town will not make a decision in Levi’s favor. She makes a rash decision to help him escape, inexplicably intrigued by him and convinced of his character. A decision with cascading effects she never could have imagined.

Misty Beller always takes her readers on an enjoyable journey! I felt like I was truly with Audrey and Levi- the setting felt so real- like a picture. I feel like this second book had much more action and the peril in the pages drew me in a bit more than the first one, though they were both very good. I loved both Audrey and Levi’s characters and felt they grew and developed in a realistic way.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bethany House for a complementary copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

I haven't read a single book by this author that I didn't love. And this one started out great and just kept right on! It's a story of a little village in the Canadian Rockies in the 1800's. The people are good people, but Levi, finds himself in a compromised position as an enemy to these people, but a man with a great heart, nonetheless. And Audrey's heart tells her he is a good person and helps him escape from his captivity. I was enthralled as the story takes them away from her home and people in an effort to protect him.
The characters are really likeable in every way. There is lots of adventure and danger and action. No dull moments to skim past quickly. It is a well-written romance and speaks to me of faith and trusts. Great book. And you won't want to miss this one. It is book 2 of a series, but reads well as a stand-alone also.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

This book has so many wonderful things going on that I was completely wrapped up from beginning to end. In the first book we met Evan MacManus as he came across our village of Laurent. Now, Evan is coming back to marry Brielle Durand and he has a stranger following him. When Audrey Moreau first spots Levi Masters she is intrigued and as she becomes more familiar she is his only saving grace from his fate in Laurent. These two will endure danger and heartaches and be tested to their limits but with faith and trust they will survive.

I loved Audrey's character as she is the healer but she has a back story that explains her need to see the good in people. Levi is likeable from the beginning. He is a good man that was in a bad situation and now wants to do God's will. There are so many great characters in this series and we are just getting to know them better. This is a continuing series as each book will be focused on two main characters but their stories will continue into the next books. Great stories and great series and I highly recommend this book. If you haven't read book one, A Warrior's Heart then I highly recommend that one as well as it will give you the beginning.

I received an early copy to read and review with my honest opinion. I loved this book and highly recommend it.

Every bit as good as it’s predecessor A Healer’s Promise is a perfectly crafted story of compassion, betrayal, and the power of faith to bring hope in difficult circumstances.
Levi, a former British spy, has secretly followed Evan McManus back to the village of Laurent. He has no idea how this one action will have far reaching consequences not just for himself, but for the woman who goes out of her way to help him.
Audrey has always had a heart for the hurting and when Levi is locked up waiting to see what fate the council has in store for him, she takes matters into her own hands. She has no idea the things her one action have set in motion.
The outcome is entirely in God’s hands. Will each of them choose to trust Him or rely on themselves through their trials?
This is an excellent book that I highly recommend.
I was given a copy through NetGalley courtesy of Bethany House a division of Baker Publishing Group and this is my honest opinion.

A HEALER’S PROMISE is the second novel in the Brides of Laurent series by MISTY M. BELLER but it can easily stand alone. It is a beautifully written historical romance novel which takes place in a little hidden village called Laurent in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in 1815. The buildings are hewn out of the rocks and the people live a simple life of serving the Lord and one another.
When Evan MacManus comes back from America where he has told the American army about the valuable pitchblende that he has found, Levi Masters, a British spy, follows him and is taken captive.
Audrey Moreau, who is the resident healer, is fascinated by Levi’s honesty and integrity which could actually cost him his life. She feels he has been wongfully condemned for being British, and should be shown grace, especially since the war is over. I like to see her faith in God and the way she worries that she has taken things into her own hands rather than trusting in her Heavenly Father.
The book is full of interesting characters. I like to see their strong friendships and the prayerful way in which Chief Durand and the inhabitants of the village make decisions.
I cannot recommend this lovely read highly enough for the great story, gentle romance and strong Christian message.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

A Healer's Promise is the second installment from Misty M Beller’s Brides of Laurent series. I adored the first book, A Warrior’s Heart and was excited to have the opportunity this one. I was far from being disappointed. Just when I find a favorite by this author, another new one pops up. I loved everything about Levi and Audrey’s story: history, setting, adventure, and romance. I had no problem reading the whole book in one sitting. It was a great way to stay up late in the wee of hours.

A Healer's Promise will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance. I can not wait to get my hands on the next installment from the Brides of Laurent series, A Daughter's Courage.

I received a paperback copy of A Healer's Promise from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

I read A Healer’s Promise by Misty M. Beller. This novel takes place during and after the war between Britain and America.

Levi Masters is a British spy and has been sent on one last mission. He intends to follow an American scout to find out what the discovery is that could give America an edge in the war. While he is traveling through the Canadian Rockies in pursuit of his quarry, he is taken captive by warriors in a remote mountain village that is housed in caves in the mountain.

The village is going to determine if Levi is a threat to their way of living. He could be killed or kept captive. Audrey is the village healer and is not concerned that Levi is dangerous to their way of life. She decides to help him escape. In their flight, Levi is wounded and Audrey drags him to a hidden cave to care for him.

The story was a good one, except that I could not reconcile myself that these people lived in a large cave where apartments were carved out for each family. Although I liked the book, I just wanted to get to the end. I thought that this book was almost a fantasy novel.

I really enjoy Misty Beller's books and I've been looking forward to the next in this series. The group of folks living in the mountain side, hidden from the outside world in the wilderness captured my attention from the very first. This one tells Audrey Moreau's story, she who acts as the healer for the group. Audrey faces some very difficult challenges here when a stranger comes to their little community. And the outsider, Levi Masters, also faces very hard choices here.

I love Beller's way of telling stories about the American frontier. She has such a way with her stories that pull this reader in. I'm a history buff and am totally happy reading one of her books. Very much recommended.

My thanks to Bethany House Publishers for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The review here is my own.
