5+ stars!
This book blew me away. I agree with the author when she says this book is "historical fiction x2". Because of the two time periods for the main character, Libby, and all of the elements that have to be set in motion, the book started a bit slow for me, but the payoff was well worth it. By 50% I could not put the book down as I found myself eager for what would happen in each timeline and trying to guess how everything would come together at the end.
This book is full of beautifully textured settings, deep characters, complicated plots, rich historical details and a clever web that ties all of these pieces together in a thought provoking and heart breaking/warming tale.
I can't recommend this book enough for anyone who enjoys historical fiction. This book is next level!
This book contains many beautiful themes, including: faith in God, sacrifice, and love (the love story is amazing and this couple is my new favorite couple!).
Happy reading!

I requested this book from NetGalley because I love historical fiction and I went to school in Williamsburg, VA, where one of the storylines is set. I did NOT realize that this was in the Christian Fiction genre and as I am not a Christian, I am not the target audience for this book. In light of this, the book’s message didn’t land with me and there was treatment of certain situations I didn’t find compelling but I will say that the time travel between two interesting historical eras was entertaining. I did find myself reading the extra chapter at night to find out what was going to happen. So, if you are looking for Christian-focused historical fiction, take my starred review with a grain of salt and I think you will enjoy this. If you are not the target audience, I think that there are probably other historical fiction options out there for you.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bethany House Publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Split time and time travel rolled into one amazing story. Libby would lead two lives, one in 1774 Virginia and one in 1914 New York. I wasn’t sure how that would play out but I was hooked as the story unfolded. So much is going on right here, the plot is creative, imaginative, and fascinating. The characters are realistic with so much chemistry. The relationship between Libby and her mother is one of the primary relationships in the book. the idea of living two different lives at the same time and then having to choose which life you want to live, provoking Libby struggled to trust God with her future.

I am reviewing a copy of When the Day Comes through Bethany House and Netgalley:

If you’re looking for a novel that moves seamlessly through two separate time lines, I highly recommend When the Day Comes Through!

Libby has been given the gift to live I two different times, one in 1774 Colonial Williamsburg and the other in 1914 Gilded Age New York City. When she falls asleep in one life, she wakes up in the other. While she's the same person at her core in both times, she's leading two vastly different lives.

While she is in Colonial Williamsburg, Libby is a public printer for the House of Burgesses and the Royal Governor, trying to provide for her family and support the Patriot cause. The man she loves, Henry Montgomery, has his own secrets. As the revolution draws near, both their lives and any hope of love--are put in jeopardy.

In 1914 Libby’s life is full wealth, drawing room conversations, and bachelors. But the only work she cares about women's suffrage--is discouraged, and her mother is intent on marrying her off to an English marquess. The growing talk of war in Europe only complicates matters.

Libby knows she's not destined to live two lives forever. On her twenty-first birthday, she must choose one path and forfeit the other but how can she choose when she has so much to lose in each life?

I give When the Day Comes five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

When the Day Comes by Gabrielle Meyer grabbed my attention from the very first page...and I did not truly look back up again until I read the last word on the page...sighed and then begged for a sequel! I had to know more about Libby! Libby is a strong character who is living two lives at the same time. This is a very clever concept and I felt that I could read about 1774 and 1914 at the same time..wonderful! Libby had a gift and had to decide at age 21 which life she will lead. What a roller coaster ride! Wow! The author answers all of your questions within the story about her time shifts but still leaves you wondering and thinking about Libby all day long. This is a very satisfying story, very clever and unique. I highly, highly recommend it. This is an outstanding book that will leave you with a smile on your face and prayers for a sequel (which I understand is in the works!) Well done!

Libby leads two lives, one in 1774 Colonial Williamsburg, and the other in 1914 New York. When she wakes each day, she alternates between the two timelines. In 1774, Libby and her family struggle to run a press after the death of her father. When they become the public printer, they begin publishing to the lead-up to the American Revolution. In 1914, Libby is the daughter of a gilded age, new money mother, who intends to marry Libby to a titled lord in England. On her 21st birthday, Libby must choose which timeline to continue in, but her plans are out of her control.

I generally do not like time jumping books, but this one was so well done, I just could not put it down. I can't wait to read more from this author. Her storylines were exciting and fast paced, her characters were well developed and multi dimensional. Overall, 5 out of 5 stars.

This was so interesting. I haven’t read a lot of split time stories, so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel. Turns out, I like them! I thought this was a really compelling book, and one that I’ll think about for awhile. I especially liked that both time periods were eras that I don’t usually choose. I liked the newness and variety,

I really enjoyed this inspirational, faith-based historical fiction novel. Even though I don't like science fiction, the time travel aspect fit perfectly. It was almost like I was reading two historical fiction novels in one, which I really liked and found creative and unique. I loved the strength and dignity of the main character who was forced to make difficult choices in her personal life and the details about life in each time period. This was an exceptional book and the author left it wide open for a sequel which I am already eagerly anticipating!

First off, I just want to say how much I enjoy Author Gabrielle Meyer's writing voice and how she approaches historical fiction. It is well-written and page turning, this book proving that fact once again.

When The Day Comes takes place similatiously in 1774 and 1914 -
I thought that Author Gabrielle Meyer did a beautiful job of using the time jump element to move the story along, giving it a very cohesive feel as a whole.

Libby was a relatable MC character in both of the time lines and I really appreciated that. Her essence very much shone through no matter the century and I liked that.

I found this book to be innovative for the Faith-Based book market and I am excited the Author has more coming in this series.

It is one of the best books I have read in 2022 so far and overall, it was a definite five star read for me.

If you like clean, engaging historical fiction with faith at the middle - definitely check this read out!

Thank you Netgalley and Bethany House Fiction for the gifted book!

Libby is a time-crosser. She doesn't know why, but she knows it's hereditary. Her mother and her mother's mother were time-crossers before her. She lives two lives: one in 1774 Colonial Williamsburg, and one in 1914 Gilded Age New York City. When she wakes up each morning she's in the opposite time as the day before with no time passing as she criss-crosses through her timelines. But she knows that with her forthcoming 21st birthday she will finally be able to choose the life she wants to be in permanently. And she already knows her decision. But with more than a year before her 21st lots of things can happen that may complicate the desires of her heart.

In 1774 Libby is working with her mother to make ends meet running the newspaper that is the legacy of her late father. In 1914 she is a Gilded Age socialite being paraded around by her Mother in the interest of mother's dreams of breaking into English aristocracy. The juxtaposition of these two lives and how Libby feels about each holds the reader in a tension as you anticipate the outcome but can't foresee a happily ever after.

This is like no book I have read before. It's like getting two books in one. Much more than a typical historical fiction duo timeline plot. The tension and the juxtaposition propel you through. And I am a sucker for a time travel book, but even if you are not a fan, but like historical fiction, I think this book could still be for you because the historical elements are the boss of the plot, not the time travel. Plus there is an element of love (familial and romantic) that grounds the story and the emotions.

Thank you to Bethany House Publishing for a gifted copy of When the Day Comes by Gabrielle Meyer. All Opinions are my own.

Libby lives in two worlds and her days alternate between the times. At the age of 21 she must decide which world to she will live in for the rest of her life. In 1774 Colonial Williamsburg Libby is the public printer and works hard for herself and her family to get by. In 1914 New York Libby lives the life of a wealthy daughter during the gilded age.

I loved this book and would love to see it become a series. It's historical fiction with some time travel which are both my favorites to read.

The author also has amazing author's notes and historical notes at the end. Anyone who knows what I like in book knows I love historical information and notes at the end of historical fiction books.

Time slip novels have gained popularity with readers recently, allowing the reader to enjoy a more modern day storyline as well as a historical storyline. In a unique twist, main character Libby quite literally slips through time, living one life during the cusp of the American Revolution and another in the Gilded Age. Libby is not the only one that is set apart for this kind of life, but rather each person is marked from birth, like Libby’s mother and her grandmother before her. While the details surrounding this could potentially come across as confusing, Meyer’s timelines flow with ease. Libby’s first person narration creates a deep rapport with the reader. As events in her timelines appear to force her to choose where she wants to stay, her desperation is palpable and her courage admirable. She does the right thing, even if it appears to her detriment, yet trusts that God has the ultimate plan for her life.

The comparison of class and the historical details the author includes make for an engrossing reading experience. Thankfully the intrigue promises to continue as this is a series opener, and perhaps there are more details to come as to how these time-crossers came to be. While Libby’s life in the Gilded Age is certainly more pampered, some events hurt my heart for her. While there are no detailed descriptions of violence, events leading to and the aftermath of sexual assault Libby experiences are explored. The romance is tender, if a bit star-crossed, with class (and time travel) keeping them apart. There is a strong faith thread, but it’s never preachy and well-suited to Libby’s singular situation. Readers can look forward to a twist at the end, leaving room to ponder just what might come next for Libby. Meyer doesn’t try to get to the heart of the “how” of it all, but rather allows the readers to ask “what if?” and simply enjoy a well-told story.

If you love the premise of time travel, enjoy books with a heroine of strong convictions, and are in the mood for a unique series, pick up When the Day Comes by Gabrielle Meyer.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion. This review first appeared on the Historical Bookworm Podcast.

This is one of the best books I read this year. It’s unique and beautiful. Libby lives in 1774 and 1914 and she is 20 years old. She wakes up in a different year each day. At her 21rst birthday she will choose her own path, either stay in 1915 or 1775.
She is a wealthy heiress in the 20th century and a printer with her mother in the 18th century. She lives during great historical events: The American Revolutionary War and the First World War.
Libby is a courageous woman fighting for what she believes and who wants to be a part of a change in the world. But She would have to learn to let God direct her path and not try by herself to change some situations. God is Sovereign no matter what she goes through. The ended was a beautiful surprise.
Excellent book!

“Please Libby, do not let anything turn your heart to stone. Do not let anger or bitterness take root in you”.
“Instead, use what you’ve learned from me and from this life to do good and further God’s kingdom in the time you occupy.”

When the Day Comes has a fantastic concept that plays out in a story of trust, sacrifice, and romance with some great twists and surprises! This novel’s unique setup allows the reader who has always dreamed of living in a different time period to see what it might be like for one person to experience two at once, and to consider the repercussions of choice and the importance of trust in (God’s) bigger plan for all time.

As the heroine also prefers, the 1774 timeline with the impending Revolution, spies, and a sweet (sometimes sad) romance was often my favorite point of view. Libby, thanks to her dual times and her mother’s input, has foreknowledge of the basics of what’s to come, which makes her choices and her part even more interesting as the contrasts between her 1774 and 1914 life continue. Her path in 1914 is more tumultuous but just as riveting, as the different setting (England, mostly) on the cusp of war has its own surprises.

It is a minor part of the story, but Libby’s role in each era explores the traditional role of females in each time — both of which contrast with today’s culture, which I think is neat.

There were a a few things I did suspect about the story’s direction and how Libby’s life would play out, but several, especially near the last quarter of the story, were a bittersweet and pleasant surprise. I’m looking forward to more novels in the “Timeless” series by Gabrielle Meyer — I’m especially excited to learn if future characters will be connected across time with Libby and her family.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy. This is my honest review.

What a fantastic story. Kept me interested from start to finish. Definitely a surprise ending. I did not want the book to end. I loved the ending though, I am hoping for a continuation of the story. Being a historical I am sure it took a lot of research, especially being two time periods. Loved the suspense of how everything was going to end up. Such different relationships between Libby and both mothers. It would be so much fun if we could actually time travel. This was just a great book that I won’t definitely forget.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Netgalley. This book review is my own opinion.

Will her choice destroy all she holds dearest?

I was completely intrigued by the premise of When The Day Comes as soon as I first heard about it. The idea of a time travel story where the heroine lives simultaneously in two historical time periods and geographical areas is fascinating. How much would knowledge of the past and future affect each 'lifetime'?

This is the first book in the Timeless series and I loved that Gabrielle Meyer chose one of my favorite time periods, the Revolutionary War, and one of the locations I've really wanted to visit for years, Williamsburg, VA, as half of the storyline setting. The WWI settings were great as well but the 1770s really stole the show for me.

The emotional tug of When The Day Comes is unmistakable and undeniable. Growing up isn't always easy and the choice Libby has to make between what she wants and what she feels is right was quite wrenching at times. Gabrielle Meyer did an excellent job of capturing Libby's internal tug-of-war as well as her journey into becoming the woman she was meant to be.

I had some mixed feelings after finishing this book. On the one hand, I wish the story had been just a tad shorter. I got kinda bogged down in the middle and I had some questions that were never really addressed. But on the other hand, the book also really made me think. How would it feel to know all the people you love have been dead for decades? That your children and possibly grandchildren died before you were even born?

While When The Day Comes will probably not make it on my favorites list for this year, I did like this new take on time travel fiction and I'm quite curious about the next book in Gabrielle Meyer's new Timeless series...

When the Day Comes by Gabrielle Meyer has such a different premise, which the cover shows perfectly, that I knew I had to read it. I read and love split time novels, but one where our main character falls asleep in one life and wakes up in another, and not only that, but she has to choose, at age 21, which life to stay in and which to permanently leave? Sign me up!

There’s not a whole lot I can say about the actual stories in this wonderful novel because of spoilers, but what I will say is that I loved Libby. She has a deep faith, is strong, kind, and I really loved her story and how it ended so perfectly. I was fully immersed in her story from the very beginning to the last page.

This is one of the most unique and creative stories I have ever read and I’m hoping this is going to be a series. Either way, I can’t wait to see what Gabrielle Meyer brings us next. In the meantime, I’m off to look at her backlist!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is medium. 5 stars.

This novel is exceptionally written! The dual time line is creativity crafted. I can not say enough good about this book and the author, Gabrielle Meyer.

The character of Libby is so very believable and totally developed. I was emotionally invested in her from chapter one until well after finish the final page.

The time settings of 1774 Colonial Williamsburg and 1914 in New York City and England were so descriptive I felt as if I were a chapter witnessing everything first hand as it developed.

This book is an absolute must read.
I give it a solid five stars.
Following this Gabrielle Meyer - watching for book two!

Thank you, thank you NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an advance copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.

If you could live life in a second time period, what would you choose? Sometimes I think it would be neat to live in the regency era I love so much, or even a hundred years ago at the dawn of the 20th century at a time when inventions and monopolies and transportation was changing constantly.

Well, in Gabrielle’s book, that sort of how Libby loved. One life in colonial Virginia in 1774 and another life in Nee York/England in 1914.

What a unique book! I honestly had no idea how intriguing it would be to have a dual time-lapse where the individual knew about both times periods AND had an end date for when “the day comes” for her to pick which time period.

(Which, again, might be nice to know your “end time” but then, I’d probably be just so worried about the deadline looming closer and closer. I’m glad we done know our end time.)

But what’s more, I haven’t had a good “fight” with a character in a long time, and this book has me wanting to shake (and smack around) some adults!!! I might be making faces as I read this.
🤫😟😭😡🤫🤭🤮😵‍💫🤧

Literally, this book gave me all the feels! And my heart just broke for Libby brocade in one life she has a man she loves but cannot marry, and in her other life he is being forced to marry someone she doesn’t love. It’s like a weird, mixed up love triangle. (And we all know how much I hate those!)

In the end, well…. You’ll have to read it because I could give too much away. But let me just give you this encouragement. Keep reading it! Don’t lay it aside (like I did) brocade you hate what’s going on. Keep pushing through because the twist at the end left me picking my jaw off the ground!

And thanks to @gabrielle_meyer who listened to my rant when I was through with this book, she gave me so much excitement and hope for future books! 🥰🥰🥰
