What an interesting premise. Two historical stories for the price of one connected by one woman with a choice to be made about which time she wants to live in and what she is willing to lose to do so.

Each day Libby woke up in a different time, each with its own challenges. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what happened to her each day. There were surprises sprinkled throughout and I really loved the one at the end. I particularly appreciated the deep inspirational thread woven throughout the entire book.

This wasn’t a typical historical fiction in the sense that the concept of living in two time periods is more speculative/fantasy, but it was well done and enjoyable reading.

I received this book complimentary as a participant of the JustReads reviewer tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are honest and my own.

I'm just going to say it. This is the BEST book Gabrielle Meyer has ever written. And I mean, I adore all her books. But this one? It's in a class of its own. The characters are engaging. The plot line is unlike anything I've ever read and I couldn't get enough of it. The research in not one, but two time periods is evident on each and every page. The faith thread is poetically weaved throughout both storylines. And the character arc - better than I expected.

Libby is a character we can all learn from, as well as relate to. We think we know the best outcome for our lives. The best place to live, work, dream, and in Libby's case - the best time period. Here's the thing. We have a plan, and God has a plan. God's plan outranks ours every single time. We don't always understand it in the moment, but looking back we can see everything line up perfectly and start to see some of the reasoning. Libby's mother was probably my favorite character aside Libby. She was wise beyond her years and offered such sound advice to Libby. Advice that readers will be able to place in their own lives.

I can see this book being on the top 2022 lists for some many readers this year, and rightly so. It'll be on mine! Meyer has told a tale that will stick with me for years. I cannot wait to see what the next book brings!!! If only I could wake up tomorrow and be in the time period where that book has already been released ;)

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"Do not let anything turn your heart to stone. Do not let anger or bitterness take root in you. If you do, all of this was for naught. Instead use what you've learned from me and from this life to do good and further God's kingdom in the time you occupy."

Wow, what an incredibly insightful, richly rewarding, and unique book! I have read Gabrielle Meyer's novellas in different collections over the years and enjoyed her writing but this is the first full-length novel I have read from the author and now I'm a devoted follower. I'm a fan of time-travel books and am loving the recent surge of interest in this subgenre by Christian authors and readers alike. The premise of the book is unique and drew me in from the start - a young woman on the cusp of her 20th birthday who lives in two separate timelines but must choose which timeline to remain when she turns 21. Caught between 1774 at the start of the Revolutionary War and 1914 at the start of WWI, Libby shows amazing resilience, strength, compassion, and faith as she speaks to us in her first person voice. You will cry with her hurts and sacrifices, delight in her triumphs, and rejoice as she finds God's faithfulness and grace in unlikely places.

Being immersed in 1774 Williamsburg, VA and 1914 Whitby, England was a lovely trip in history and culture. There were plenty of plot twists and surprises to keep the storyline moving at a good pace. This book has it all - a worthy heroine, a fantastic plot, and a wonderful faith thread. It deliciously combines multiple genres - history, fiction, romance, and speculative - to give us one of the best books I've read so far in 2022.

I received the book from the publisher via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

The unusual plot and story line of this book intrigued me immediately.

Libby is a time crosser. She lives in two different time lines, and once she reaches her 21st birthday, she must make a choice.
Her one life is in 1775, Williamsburg. The beginning of the Revolutionary War. She has a mother and two young sisters who depend on her. Their print shop is vital to the Patriot cause. She has so much to live for in this time line.
Her other life is in 1914 as the daughter of the wealthy Mr & Mrs Wells. Her cold, unfeeling mother is determined to marry her off to a nobleman, wanting only the prestige of having titles in their family.

Libby goes back and forth, and thinks her choice is very clear. She knows what she wants. She knows where she feels real love.

But, sometimes, things are not as they seem. And...unexpected events take place.
The ending was surprising, but satisfying. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

Don’t let the time travel tag on this book fool you. When the Day Comes by Gabrielle Meyer is a combination of historical fiction, time travel, and dual time.

With settings in 1774 Williamsburg and 1917 New York City, Meyer had her work cut out for her, and she rose to the challenge fabulously. Each period is so well researched and written about that I never had to guess which time Libby was in. And the premise of why/how Libby woke up in one time when she fell asleep in the other kind of makes complete sense.

Libby herself is an engaging character. I wanted so bad for her to get to choose where (and in what year) she wanted to live the rest of her life, especially when something horrible happens to her and that choice isn’t as clear anymore.

This book will not only appeal to fans of Outlander or Jude Devereaux’s wildly popular book A Knight in Shining Armor, but historical fiction fans as well. And bonus points for the plot twist at the end of the book.

4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I finished this book in 48 hours.

One w0rd to describe this book would be complex- don't get me wrong tho, I mean it in the best way possible 😍. Let me explain.

I knew this book would have time travel but I didin't know what time period we were going to deal with.... I'm that person that hates reading synopsis (unless it's utterly necessary).

So two days ago I cracked the book open and started reading it.

I was instantly captivated by the story.

The drama, the weaving together of two incredible time periods- Colonial Williamsburn and the Gilded Age in New York, was fantastic.

Both times periods had its charms that captivated your imaginattion.

The Gilded Age time had this glamorous and elite society, balls, important wealthy people, scheming, complicated realtionships and a flubouyant ambiance.

Then we have colonial Williamsburg. This time period was invaded by a woman who had seen what freedom was like, had tasted the beginning of a revolution for Women in the 1900's , and knew how many things would start and end for the people she loved.

Add in the temptation of wanting to change the future to the recipe, forbidden secrets, new characters invading the MC'a life, and you have When the Day Comes.

Addictive.

But one thing I loved even more was the Faith content!!! This one of the few CF books I've read that is actually a CF book and not just a ''clean book'.
I was higlighting so so many quotes and verses and it was so refreshing to my soul to be minstered while I was also reading.

I've enjoyed this book inmensely.

TW: This book has some adult themes like rape and sexual assault. I will say, the author handled it amazingly and never crossed the line. It was done with a lot of tact and just enought description to set you know what was going on. The actual consumation of the act was not told.

Wow! So Many Feelings! What a Read!

First, let me say that I was not sure of what to expect with a dual timeline/time travel book. I was pleasantly surprised and loved it. I found myself rooting for her to pick a specific timeline and the end truly gave me the warm fuzzies.

I will note there was a sensitive topic in the book that boiled my blood. *Not toward the author.

I would love to see discussion questions at the end of the book for more thoughts about some key take aways.

I believe this is the first book i have read by Gabrielle Meyer and it makes me look forward to her next in the Timeless series.

When the Day Comes had me invested from the very first page. I absolutely love books about time travel, time bending, alternate realities, or anything else in that realm. I also love stories that take place in more than one time period so this book was right up my alley. I loved the time bender concept in which Libby lives in both 1776 and 1915, and that her mom had lived in the 1990's. I thought it was interesting to learn about the "rules" of time bending in their world, and to see Libby have to make tough choices and consider the consequences of those tough choices. I didn't see the ending coming and I absolutely loved it.

"When the Day Comes" is a historical set in 1774 in Williamsburg, Virginia and 1914 in New York City. It was extremely predictable. At about a third of the way into the story, I told someone the setup and predicted "I bet these people die, this happens, she has to choose this way, but this happy ending is highly hinted at." Yup, it all happened. What I didn't predict was that the 1914 timeline went from her self-centered mother verbally abusing and emotionally manipulating her to, worse, a stranger husband that got drunk and raped her more than once. While the actual rapes were not a detailed scene, Libby was emotionally devastated.

Male time-crossers are apparently told this gift allows them to be heroes in one timeline with the knowledge that, if they die, they'll still have a second life to live. They're encouraged to make history. The women are told to be very careful not to change history to the point they just kind of observe it. We're told that this important event or that one happened, but we mainly got scenes of Libby longing miserably for Henry, trying to financially support her indebted 1774 family, and a few social events. She was a part of one major historical event, yet I never felt immersed in the history. Libby was also told that if women time-crossers got pregnant, they must give up their choice to sacrificially have and raise their children. If they try to change anything (like stand up to the cruel mother), then they don't trust God or that His plan is what's best for them.

Ok, so I'd say that sinful people do harmful things and God can bring good even from things that happen due to living in an evil, fallen world. That's not the message here. Instead, it's that God placed her to be born to this cruel mother, and she must honor her mother. If she acts to change her circumstances, Libby will being playing God and going against God's plan for her. It also seemed implied that there was only one destiny planned by God, and if Libby didn't passively follow it, God's perfect plan would be messed up. I don't agree with any of this. // There was no bad language.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11

Since the day she was born, Libby has lived two lives — one in Williamsburg, Virginia, in the 1700s and another in New York City in the 1900s. Every night, when she goes to sleep in one world, Libby wakes in the other, no time passing between either. Inheriting this ‘gift’ from her mother, Libby’s double life will continue until midnight on her twenty-first birthday — when she must decide the period to stay in forever. However, which will Libby choose? Her life in Williamsburg, where she works in her family’s printing press and has a front-row seat to America’s fight for independence? Or, will her life in the Gilded Age open new opportunities unavailable in colonial Virginia? Libby has two years until she has to decide, but she must be careful not to change history.

“It was one of the many things Mama had warned me about since I was young: never search for answers about either path. If God wanted me to know, I would know. And I must not, for any reason, try to change either path with the foreknowledge I might obtain. To do so meant I would forfeit the path I tried to alter” ~ Gabrielle Meyer

Even when the road ahead seems clear, God has a way of shifting our perspectives and opening our eyes to His plans. Too often, we think we know what’s best, but time and time again, God shows us that His Will is 100x more fulfilling. Libby learns this firsthand as she juggles her two lives, facing challenges that will shake the foundation of her faith and finding a love that will cause her to question if she believes that God knows best.

“God is concerned with the state of your heart more than where you live or what time you occupy. He wants to know that He has your heart, Libby. All of it. He wants to know that you trust Him no matter what happens.” ~ Gabrielle Meyer

When the Day Comes is a PHENOMENAL novel! Similar to Outlander — though cleaner  — the time jumps were flawless, and the plot was engaging! I loved every moment of this book and appreciated the author's drive to include God in the storyline. Libby was a delightful character to follow, taking readers on her epic journey through the ages! And while there was romance, it wasn't the only drive of the plot (HALLELUJAH!) Despite just putting this book down, you can be sure that I will read and/or listen to this story again soon!

“Freedom isn’t stagnant or guaranteed. It lives and breathes and must be defended constantly. Don’t take it for granted. Fight for it, both in the public and private spheres of your life.” ~ Gabrielle Meyer

Time travel books are often hard to get right. I love that this book did it so well. Libby is such a compassionate and caring woman. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her journey as she travels between times. I thought the mechanic of how she traveled was unique and brought the story to life. Imagine changing lives every night. She takes each challenge in stride, and her ability to overcome challenges made When the Day Comes a delightful read. I kept trying to pick a favorite time period, but Libby made them both interesting, and I couldn't decide where I hoped she ended up. This was a great tale of family and sacrifice that blends time travel and romance into a fantastic blend. I received a copy of this book through JustReads. Thanks to Bethany House for the free book.
There aren't many books that I read that I am left with such a feeling of satisfaction, but this is one of them. The way Meyer crafted this time traveling story was so unique. Libby lives in 1774 and in 1914. This is like two reading two different historical fiction books but there is a common thread - Libby. I just loved how Meyer crafted these two different time periods. Both were realistic and detailed. I also loved the overarching message of God's plans being bigger and better than any plan you could make on your own. I fell hard for these characters and found myself so invested in their story until the very last word. I cannot wait to see what this author does next!

Imagine living two different lives in two different times. This is Libby's reality going back and forth between 1774 and 1914 in When the Day Comes. Each day when she goes to sleep in one timeline, she wakes up in the other--losing no time in between. She continues to do so until her 21st birthday, at which time she will be able to make the decision which timeline to remain in. I don't read many time travel stories, but I loved the unique idea behind this story and found myself drawn in.

This story was fantastically written... creating two very different worlds for Libby, both equally interesting. It was a bit hard to wrap my brain around how one could keep these two lives straight, but I found the author did a good job of making it easier for the reader to understand. There was a bit of a surprise twist at the end, which I will admit I suspected might be coming a little while before it happened, but it did not disappoint anyway. While the story was entertaining, it also had a really great message on God's plans and timing.

This story was certainly unlike any I have read in the past, and I absolutely adored it. I cannot wait to see what happens next in the Timeless series.

Hello! I absolutely loved When the Day Comes! This is a fantastic book and an amazingly-unique concept!! I definitely recommend this book, and I appreciate the ARC from NetGalley. This is my honest review. When my sister and I were growing up, my family and I took multiple trips to Colonial Williamsburg, and I fell in love with the town and history. I attended the College of William and Mary and also write historical fiction novels. The time period that always entices me is that of the American Revolution, and, when I saw that Gabrielle Meyer wrote a book that, in part, is set in Colonial Williamsburg, I could not wait to read it! The time travel/time-slip idea is well done. The details within 1774 are brilliantly-portrayed and described. Then, jumping to 1914, I have been enthralled by the contrast in geography, time period, culture and overall landscape... reminiscent of Downton Abbey. I love the references to actual historical characters with the interweaving of the fictional ones. It all felt like I was back in town as well as time and traveling back and forth with Libby, the heroine of the book and primary time crosser. Henry Montgomery, the hero of the book, is a delight and super attractive! I wanted to jump into the book and 1774 and meet him! I am not a huge fan of first-person narratives, but it worked in this book. At first I was not sure how I felt about so many jumps each other chapter, but I realized this was a necessary mechanism of the book. I love the name Henry Montgomery; however, I might have liked a different first name so as not to confuse with Patrick Henry. However, this book was super fun to read! The romance between Libby and Henry was lovely. When the Day Comes was quite enjoyable, and I cannot wait to read more from this author. Thank you! :)

When the Day Comes is one of the most unique storylines I’ve ever read! It’s also one of the few books I’ve read where I have absolutely no idea how it would end. So many chapters ended with me changing my mind on how I thought the story will end. And the ending was so wonderful and surprising that I didn’t see it coming! And I’m not going to say much more because I want you to fully enjoy this story for yourself. The characters were well written, I absolutely loathed some and adored others. They all stirred up conflicting emotions and had me so invested in the book. Libby was a great MC, so very human in her actions and responses to the circumstances in her lives. I know it’s sounds like a strange way to describe a character but there’s nothing worse than a MC that doesn’t act or respond like you or I would in similar situations. It makes the characters feel more real and relatable. The romance was sad but sweet with some long awaited kisses that were lovely to read. When the Day Comes is a truly unique read full of beautiful life lessons about trust and hope. I’m beyond excited to read a sequel to this story and hope I don’t have to wait too long!

From the moment I saw the cover I was intrigued. How was this first person story going to keep me engaged as a time travel novel? That's not my first choice of genre, but oh my goodness! I loved this story. So much. A twist on time travel that was a good read. And I loved how the two time periods (Colonial Williamsburg as the Revolution was ready to start and Gilded Age NYC), were similar and yet so different. Highly recommend.

Libby (Conant, Wells) lives two fully complete and different lives; when she goes to bed each night she wakes up the next morning in a completely different timeline (1774 Colonial Williamsburg, 1914 New York City/England). She has to choose which path to stay on when she turns 21, but in the meantime she is determined to make every minute count. There are so many intricacies to each timeline but the author navigates the back and forth very well; I never felt confused and each path was equally compelling.

I am so glad I read this book; I was intrigued by the summary and it definitely ended up exceeding my expectations. The entire story was such a wonderful surprise. A tweak of a not-often-utilized concept (done uniquely, and done well!) that includes great writing, interesting characters, an awesome ending…. I am really really REALLY hoping this is the beginning of a series.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I listened to the author on a webcast that was excellent and gave me even a fuller appreciation for this book.
Libby has been given a powerful gift: to live one life in 1774 Colonial Williamsburg and the other in 1914 Gilded Age New York City. When she falls asleep in one life, she wakes up in the other without any time passing. On her twenty-first birthday, Libby must choose one path and forfeit the other--but how can she possibly decide when she has so much to lose?
I highly recommend this book and will be purchasing it for our library.

Book Review: Until the Day Comes by Gabrielle Meyer
.
What started out as an interesting book with a unique concept, ended as one of my new favorite books. I loved the concept of Libby living in two different time periods. I also thought the choice of time periods very interesting because she knew the history of one of her lives, and I knew the history of her other. I kept wondering what she would choose and what would happen. It was hard to read at times (see my content warning at the end), but I was so amazed with Libby’s growth throughout the book. The end took a turn that I absolutely did not see coming. I love a good turn that takes me by surprise!
.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Content warning: She is raped twice by her husband and while it is not described in any detail, the implication made it hard for me to read at times.

When the Day Comes by Gabrielle Meyer is the first Timeless Book. I thought this historical novel was creative and well-written. It contained realistic characters and situations. Libby lives two different lives: one in 1774 and one in 1914. In one she is the managing editor of her deceased father’s newspaper. Libby and her mother work hard to provide a living for their family and pay off their father’s debt. Libby is in love with Henry Montgomery, but he is about to betrothed to the Royal Governor’s fourteen-year-old daughter. In 1914, her mother is determined to marry her off to a titled Englishman. When Libby turns twenty-one, she will need to decide which life she will live for the rest of her life. The story is told in alternating chapters (back and forth between 1774 and 1914). I can tell the author did her research for both time periods and locations. She captured the grandeur of London Society, the beginning of the Great War, and the fashions (especially the tight-fitting hobble skirt that ladies had trouble walking in). We get to experience Colonial Williamsburg on the brink of the Revolutionary War. I like the time travel concept (unique). When Libby goes to sleep in 1774, she awakens in 1914. She lives both lives simultaneously. I enjoyed reading both time periods with their vivid descriptions. The author managed to strike a balance between too little and too much detail. The faith elements are prominent and beautifully incorporated into the story. We see the importance of faith and relying on God. When the Day Comes is a fascinating and emotional split time novel. I loved the ending and appreciated the epilogue that gives us a hint of who will be featured in the next Timeless Book. When the Day Comes is a captivating tale with patriot printers, a bevy of balls, a merciless mother, a raging war, a sympathetic mum, an approaching revolution, and a critical choice.
