When reading a novel by Dani Pettrey, you know you are in a for a ride that keeps you on the edge! The Deadly Shallows, book 3 in the Coastal Guardians series is no different. Pettrey knows how to capture the audience within the first few pages - she does just that with a mass shooting at a Coast Guard Medic graduation ceremony which draws the characters right into the action. Her characters are familiar, relatable and realistically flawed. Readers will find familiar characters from previous books and multiple developing storylines which intertwine for an intense thrill ride. As with her other books, faith and relationships are woven throughout the storyline and will engage your heart as well. If you are looking for a fast-paced read that you are ok staying up all night to finish, you have found your next book!

I love romantics suspense, but The Deadly Shallows is lacking in the suspense department. The beginning of the book starts strong, but the plot lacks momentum to keep readers hooked. Noah and Brooke’s relationship deepen, but I was hoping for a more exciting romance.

The Deadly Shallows by Dani Pettrey is the third book in her Coastal Guardians romantic suspense series.

This story has a lot of moving parts. For example, while the back cover only has one romance featured, the book has two. I did struggle to keep the couples apart in the my head and actually tended to prefer Austin and Caleb’s romance as well as their investigation more than the Brooke and Noah’s romance and over arching investigation.

I think part of the reason for that is because opening with a mass shooting, and then the trauma the Brooke faces, hits too close to home these days. For other readers, you may enjoy the dueling romance and all the suspense, and I hope you will! Personally, I wanted to enjoy this story because I love the idea of it being about CGIS characters. It just wasn’t for me at this time.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, give this one a try, especially if you’ve read the first two books in the series.

RIVETING FROM THE FIRST SCENE TO THE LAST!

Award-winning author, Dani Pettrey, is known for her fast-paced romantic suspense books. The Deadly Shallows (Coastal Guardians Book #3) exemplifies this as it is riveting from the first scene to the last! Be prepared to block off time to read because you will want to immerse yourself in this story. Pettrey brings back characters that readers know and have grown to love from previous books in the series. These characters are members of the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) and are realistic, and relatable, and readers have grown to appreciate them, flaws and all. Pettrey has allowed the characters to struggle in their personal lives and has she shown how they overcome adversity. She displays their growth when a mass shooting occurs on the Coast Guardt base and they immediately rally into action each using their unique gift set to meet the needs around them. What I liked most about this book is that Pettrey shows the importance of teamwork, loyalty, and the trust they feel towards each other. When Coast Guard flight medic Brooke Kesler finds herself treating one of the attackers, he whispers one word to her that puts her life in imminent danger. It will be up to the team to keep her safe while also solving the crime. Pettrey’s strategic use of romance helps cement her characters and her plot together. The suspense element makes all Pettrey stories feel intensely real as if readers are experiencing the action instead of merely reading about it. The Deadly Shallows will not disappoint as it is riveting from the first scene to the last!

Pettrey gives readers a good dose of the duties of Coast Guard agents. The novel starts off with a mass shooting at a Coast Guard event and then explores other issues, including dumping of toxic chemicals in the shallow ocean. I was a bit surprised in the plot development that the investigation of the shooting did not take precedent in the agents' actions. I was also surprised at the ease with which bad guys got in the Coast Guard base to cause mayhem. The security must not be anything like other military bases. And that a private investigator works with the Coast Guard team seems a bit unusual.

This is a romantic suspense with heavy emphasis on the romance. It was too much for me. I was surprised when, even on a stake out and being chased, romantic thoughts surfaced when characters bumped into each other or crouched, touching. At one point, Noah and Brooke are intruded upon, nearly kissing in a Coast Guard meeting room. Those romantic actions ruined the suspenseful feel for me and cheapened the agents' work. I would have rather seen agents focused on their work, keeping their romance to off hours.

This is a novel for readers who like a romantic suspense novel with some suspense but mostly romance. While I have enjoyed all of Pettrey's novels, I do not think it is one of her best.

The Deadly Shallows is the third book in the Coastal Guardians series. While I had read the previous books in the series, I must admit it had been a little while with many books read in between, so the details were a bit fuzzy. Even still, I found this would read just fine as a standalone as well... though I'd certainly recommend the rest of the series as well.

While the book description only mentions Brooke and Noah's story, there are actually two romances and two cases throughout the story. The point of view switches back and forth between several characters, and rather quickly at times too. I will say that it took me a bit to get into that pace and to associate myself with who was who during those transitions... but after a few chapters, I really found this pace worked well within the story to keep up the high suspense and making me unable to put it down. We are given just enough to keep us hanging on to every word, and I absolutely loved it! Dani Pettrey continues to impress me with her ability to weave together these layered stories with the perfect blend of romance, suspense and faith... and I cannot wait to see what she does next.

If you're a fan of Christian romantic suspense, this is certainly one not to be missed.

**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

The final installment in the Coastal Guardians series is packed with more action and drama than a romantic suspense should be allowed to have!

When a deadly attack occurs affecting members of the Coast Guard Investigative Services, Agent Noah Rowley and his team race to stop the attack and save as many lives as possible. During the attack, Brooke Kesler, a flight medic for the Coast Guard, helps take one of the gun man that was wounded to the hospital and ends up on the radar of the bad guys when they think she knows something she shouldn’t. With each new clue they uncover about the deadly plot affecting their city and friends, they realize more lives could be at stake. Noah, Brooke and the team must work together to stop the plan of truly evil men.

If you have read any of the Coastal Guardians books, or are a fan of romantic suspense, this is one you will not want to miss. I have always loved the way Dani Pettrey crafts novels that are rich in drama, suspense, tension, romance and so much more. This novel and the way she put Brooke in dangerous situations and how it affected the other team members was written beautifully. There was no trouble relating to Brooke as the main female lead in this book and all that she goes through, I found myself on the edge of the seat several times hoping everything would turn out alright. My only complaint about this book would be at times it got a little preachy with how much the different characters were praying in different situations. This is a Christian fiction book and as such it is to be expected, but for readers that are turned off by too much of that this will take them out of the story, not something that needs to happen. I’m all for praying in all situations, good and bad, but when reading a story like this I just felt it took me away from the tension and what I needed to be focused on in the story. This was a good wrap up to the series and I can’t wait to see what stories come next from Pettrey.

Romantic mystery that gets back to Noah Rawley’s Coast Guard team.
Following a mass shooting at a Coast Guard Graduation Ceremony, Special Agent Noah Rowley commits himself and his team to figuring out who was behind the attack. Flight Medic Brooke Kesler is equally committed to helping how she can after seeing her friend shot at the graduation.
Dani Pettrey was a new to me author this year. While “The Coastal Guardian” series in general didn’t have as good of reviews of some of her other series, I’m so glad this is where I started. In book 3 “The Deadly Shallows” we can return to Noah and his Coast Guard Team. During a Coast Guard graduation ceremony there was a mass shooting. Special Agent Noah and his Team are on a mission to find out who was responsible for the attack. Medic Brook, that we were introduced to in a previous book.

The third book in this series has me complex. I felt like it was a book that both hocked my attention and left me wanting more. I like the way the characters where built, and how the mystery was focused. However, their where times I felt like I could easily predict what was going to happen. Throughout the book, however, I thoroughly enjoyed the faith aspect.

I am most definitely excited to read more series from this author!

This book starts off with action and does not stop! It’s one thing after another. The characters barely have time to rest. Fortunately they do have time for a bit of romance, the kind you expect to find in a Dani Pettrey book along with the heart racing suspense. I have really enjoyed his series about the Coast Guard Investigative Services. The beginning of this book is pretty intense, however I think the author handled it very well. We finally get to learn Noah’s story and see he and Brooke work through some things. Because they are investigators, they work more than one case at a time, and we see this in this story. Caleb and Austin discover a case that needs solving while still helping with the primary case. Danger is at every turn for the team. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars

This was my first book by this author and it was so well written, it will definitely it be my last! This mystery was intertwined with a secondary mystery, a cast of unique yet discernably different characters and great romantic moments woven into the plot. This story kept me invested, turning page after page to see what was waiting around the corner for these characters and eager to see how on earth they were going to get to the bottom of this mystery. This story is about finding justice, healing from trauma and protecting innocents. We have a great team of crime solving characters who work together in this story to discover the reason for an attack on base and unearth a whole lot of secrets in the process.

This book can absolutely be read as a stand-alone. I found it simple to follow and engaging to read from the beginning. The short chapters made me feel as if I was reading very quickly, which was further incentive to keep reading. I am so glad that I picked up this book on a whim, it’s outside of my usual romance genre but so well worth the read! You can bet I’ll be reading more from this author.

Many thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.

The Deadly Shallows is the third book in the Coastal Guardians series by Dani Pettrey. It is a thrilling romantic suspense you won't want to miss!
In this heart-thumping suspense, it is impossible to stop reading! From the looming, large-scale threats to the multi-layered mystery of who it behind it all, this story will grab you from the first chapter and not let go.
I have loved the characters in this series, and I loved getting to know Noah and Brooke on a deeper level. I love the gentle and sweet romance between them and how they respect each other's roles in the Coast Guard. And I loved the witty interplay between Caleb and Austin. They were adorable together even when they were intolerable.
Overall, this is another hit from Dani Pettrey. Fans of Lynette Eason or Colleen Coble, will love this story (and the entire series!) I look forward to the novella that will wrap up the series! Happy reading!
I was given a copy of this book by the author with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

The Deadly Shallows by Dani Pettrey gives readers a non-stop thrill ride. This story focuses on Noah Rowley (Gabby’s brother from The Killing Tide) who is a Coast Guard Investigator. He’s called to investigate a mass shooting, where Brooke Kesler is caught up in the action. She’s a fight medic and has to treat one of the shooters. But when he utters something to her, she becomes a target. Now Noah has to stop the bad guys and protect Brooke, the woman he’s secretly loved for a while.

I love the action and suspense of this story. There are so many layers and it’s intriguing to follow the CGIS team at work. Plus Noah and Brooke start to explore their relationship in the midst of the drama. There’s a lot of romance in this story, as a subplot has Caleb and Austin also fighting feelings while leading a separate investigation. There’s so much packed into one novel, but it all works brilliantly to give readers so much excitement and tension. The whole series is fantastic, but I think this is my favorite one because of the intensity of both the drama and the romance. High stakes all the way from page one to the ending! Also, this series has fabulous covers, and yes, I judge books by their covers all the time.

This is a suspenseful romance that you will not want to put down. I loved Brooke and Noah and all the others in their group. I recommend reading the first two books in the series so you know who the other characters in the group are. This is inspirational and emotional. I enjoyed that there was more than one case that was being worked on. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

The author's books are always non stop action and this one is no different. Action that captivates you from the first pages hooks your attention. You won't be able to stop reading because once you start reading you'll need to have all your questions answered.
A mass shooting has the first responders including CGIS Agent Noah Rowley and his team and Coast Guard flight medic Brooke Kesler on high alert.
A mysterious message given to medic Brooke by the only surviving gunman has her questioning it's importance. Was he even coherent when he spoke to her?
This fast paced thriller will have you questioning who ordered the shooting and why?
I enjoyed seeing the interaction between Noah and Brooke they have a comfort level with each other that has built up from previous books but will sparks be able to fly as he does everything he possibly can to protect her while keeping a secret from her that may change the whole scope of things if she'd find out what it was.
The attack wasn't the end game. It was only the beginning.
Sure to please you won't be able to stop til you've read it all the way through.

Another amazing romantic suspense novel from Dani Pettrey! I had been waiting for Noah to get his own story since the beginning of the series, and I am thrilled that he and Brooke got their romantic storyline in this novel. I love how the author weaves beautiful faith messages into her stories and keep the readers guessing what will come next. The only reason that I didn’t give this book 5 stars was because I wasn’t invested in the secondary romantic storyline of Caleb and Austin.

This book is recommended for fans of romantic suspense!

If you like romance and mystery, this book is for you. Just remember that it's the their book in a series, so it will help to read the other 2 books first! There's a lot of romance in the story, a little too much for my personal taste, but im.quite sure that many of you will enjoy it! There's also some torture, though it's not described in detail. That's not my favorite stuff to read. Overall, a good story.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e copy of this book! The opinions expressed are entirely my own!

Dani Pettrey is a new-t0-me author and I ended up grabbing books 1 and 2 before reading this one and am I glad I did that!

I loved that this series had so much cross over between characters and books. I think this series just gets better and better with each and every book! With so many different points of view this book kept a quick pace. Each chapter something new was happening, or a new development or clue was given that really keeping the pages turning while I was trying to figure out how it would all end.

With this being a suspense there was violence and death, but nothing gruesome or explicit in content. I loved the Christian aspects interwoven and loved seeing how these character's faith influenced their choices and decisions.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own!

Dani does an outstanding job brining Noah and Brooke's story to life. This book has everything you are looking for in a romantic suspense, a plot that keeps you in trawled till the very end, characters that you can relate too as well, and it keeps you on your toes waiting for the next book in her series.

Once again, Dani Pettrey delivers another action back story. One of those "keep you up all night" stories.

Absolutely LOVED this story.
Brooke likes Noah and Noah likes Brooke, but his secret makes him think there's no future for them.
But tragedy has a way of changing things.

This book was intense at times as Brooke faces emotional and physical challenges, but her character and faith carries her through them. Likewise, Noah has to come to terms with his fears and realize what is truly important in life.

If you've read Dani Pettrey books before you won't be disappointed. If you are new to Pettrey's work and enjoy books by Terri Blackstock, Brandilyn Collins, or Christy Barritt you'll enjoy this book. Although, this is book 3 in the series it can stand alone. (I personally NEED to read them in order and you'll follow the underlying plot if you read books 1 & 2 first)

Action from the opening pages until the very end. Can't wait to read what's next for the Coastal Guardians!

When you decide to read this book, you should block out a solid chunk of time because you aren't going to want to put this book down. It's fast paced and full of danger, action and mystery. I love romantic suspense and this author does it so well.

This book starts out in the thick of the danger and the plot grows with intensity and scope throughout the book. The bad guys are obvious to the reader but not the characters, so that gave me anxiety. haha. The tension was strong and I was reading so quickly I had to purposefully slow myself down and remind myself to savor and enjoy. It didn't really work.

Brooke and Noah are friends. They both want more but neither of them is laying it on the table in the beginning. Then, all the bad things happen and that sure has a way of changing how you look at relationships and life. I love the way Noah shifted to protector mode. He is smart and loyal and good. The same can be said of Brooke. They both jump into danger to protect people and they have an awesome team of friends and coworkers around them to assist them in this.

This is the third book in this series and I would recommend reading it in order because I think you will be happier if you do. Characters from previous books are in this book so it will make those personal connections even better.

Content: peril, violence, death. Torture mentioned but not describe in great detail. Kissing. Christian elements.
