“The Deadly Shallows” by Dani Pettrey was another great read. This is the third book in the Coastal Guardians series, but you don’t have to read the first two to understand what is going on. This book started with action on the first page! The attack affects CGIS Agent Noah Rowley’s team, so he is going to do whatever he can to find out who is responsible. Coast Guard Medic Brooke Kesler is also affected and a very good friend of Noah’s. Together they try to find out what is going on. There is non-stop action and some romantic tension in this novel. Dani Pettrey never fails to deliver an engaging, inspirational, romantic suspense novel. I highly recommend this novel and all of Dani Pettrey’s novels. You won’t be disappointed!

I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.

This book hooked me from the first page and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I loved these characters. They felt so real and I loved how well they overcame their difficulties with the help of God. I also loved how well they helped eachother through their difficulties.

This book was insane. I love all her books but especially this one. It leaves you jumping at the edge of your seat for most of the book.

Dani Pettrey is at the top of her game in this blockbuster of a thriller! 5 stars!

The Deadly Shallows has an intricate well thought out plot that had me guessing who the guilty party was all along the way. This story hits the ground running and doesn't let up until the very end! The twists and turns had me reeling with the all the possibilities!

I loved CGIS agent Noah Rowley and Coast Guard medic Brooke Kesler as they work out their possible relationship while they lay their lives on the line to stop whoever is behind the mass shooting. I also really enjoyed the inclusion of the second romance between Caleb and Austin. The fun swoony epilogue left me smiling!

Pettrey has outdone herself and written a first-class suspense that would make a fantastic movie! I'm so looking forward to whatever she writes next! I appreciate Bethany House Publishers making a copy of The Deadly Shallows available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

Action packed from the start....a Coast Guard graduation turns deadly when armed men come in shooting. It's up to CGIS Agent Noah Rowley and his team to find out who is behind the shooting and why. Coast Guard medic Brooke Kesler is taken captive adding to the suspense. The story takes lots of twists and turns as you discover the true reason behind the shooting. There is a second story line involving Caleb and Austin when her dog suddenly becomes ill and hazardous waste is discovered in the sound out her back door. Dani does a wonderful job of bringing all of the characters to life and having them involved in figuring out what is happening. I can't wait for Caleb and Emmy's story in the next book. This one was action packed, suspenseful, romantic, humorous, and inspirational.

The Deadly Shallows is book three of Dani Pettrey’s Coastal Guardians. Such an excellent suspense-filled romance. There are so many twists and turns, it was hard to keep track but also made it difficult to put down. The characters are well developed and interact throughout the series, giving us the opportunity to really get to know them. I loved this book and recommend it to those who enjoy the constant action in a suspenseful thriller.

Great romantic suspense! This story is intense, fast-paced, and kept me hooked from the first page. There were twists and turns around every corner, and lots of action! I loved the characters, the interactions between them, and the gripping story. Excellent!

Although I generally like to savor the Christian romantic suspense that I read, I just couldn’t do it with this book. The pace was so fast and the action was so intriguing that it was impossible to put down. Beginning with a mass shooting, the heart-pounding action just kept up the rapid race through all of the events leading up to the deaths and all that the USCGIS agents were doing to find the perpetrators who had executed such horror at such a celebratory event. Brooke was called on to exhibit her skills as a medic time and time again and Noah Rowley, the team leader, has to use all of his expertise and a lot of prayer to trace the clues. The story is twisted and engaging as Noah’s team is led on a not-so-merry chase to find the group of men responsible for the devastation, only to discover that their planned mayhem is not over. The love stories in between the mystery and suspense were equally mesmerizing, with Noah and Brooke’s unlikely attraction as well as Caleb and Austin’s playful one. The scenes with the couples were like a break from the intensity of the main story and a much needed distraction from the seriousness of the crimes that were being investigated. All of the characters were well-developed, even the villains who were just as despicable as one would expect. The entire book was a race to the finish for me and I loved each minute I spent with the Coastal Guardians as they struggled to make sense of the violence and chaos before it became worse. Fans of romantic suspense will love this book, especially the intensity and the research that went into such a brilliantly written story!

From the first sentence you hit the ground running. Deadly Shallows has many twists and turns that will keep you guessing. It was great to see the members of CGIS and their families again. Noah and Brooke have to join together to solve a mass shooting that happened on base, along with members of the team and PI Austin Kelly. I throughly enjoyed this story.

06.01.22 The Deadly Shallows Dani Pettrey ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Release Date: 07.05.22

If you like action, mystery and romance, this book has it all. This third book in the Coastal Guardians has a team of experts who not only have cases to investigate on land, but also in the water. Criminals beware; you will be caught and brought to justice.

Having several events happening at once, Ms. Pettrey did an excellent job in developing the romantic relationships of several of the couples who work together. I liked the way that Noah Rawley and Brooke Kessler operated as one with their investigation. I also enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. Noah was able to give support and be there for Brooke when she needed him after a terrifying experience and loss of a friend.

The portrayal of the mastermind behind the mass shooting showed how ruthless he was and how he would stop at nothing to achieve his goal. I was a bit surprised at his motive and was expecting it to be a bit different. But, revenge can lead some people to do terrible things.

I would recommend reading the other two books in the series to give you history of the other couples who are in the book and their previous cases. While this can be read as a standalone, I hadn’t read book two and felt that I had missed out on some details that would have made the story even better than it was.

Unfortunately I was not a huge fan of this book by Dani Pettrey. I have read most of her books and enjoy them, but the last few have been difficult. I felt this book had too many characters and story lines and plots and I did not think they complimented each other well. The ending was anti climactic and that all of the characters and stories did not resolve and come together as cohesively as they could have.

Pettrey is a master at complex suspense. There are so many layers to peel back as Noah and his team try to solve a crime. It gets further complicated as more murders happen. Are they connected? Noah has a great team and it's fascinating seeing how they each use their skill set to figure out the next piece of the puzzle.

I loved the action in this book. The only negative for me was that in at least two big confrontations, they were over in about two paragraphs. I felt they should have been fleshed out more for how significant they were. Other than that, I enjoyed it and found it hard to put down. The characters were great and I loved the team dynamics.

Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The Deadly Shallows, Coastal Guardians Book #3 starts off with a BANG! Coast Guard Flight Medic Brooke Kesler is so excited to see her friend graduate from medic A-school. But the excitement of the graduation quickly diminishes when masked gunmen open fire on the crowd. CGIS agent Noah Rowley immediately calls his team to action to stop the shooting and find out who the gunmen are.

When Brooke goes missing because she overheard an important piece of information, Noah drops everything in order to find her. Thanks to some quick thinking and bravery on Brooke's part, she escapes, but the men are still after her. Can Noah and Brooke solve the mystery of who is behind the master plot and what the end goal is in time?

I LOVED this story from Dani Pettrey! Pettrey has long been one of my favorite authors, and this book does not disappoint! I loved the fast paced movement throughout the story, the continued character development from the previous books in the series and the mystery felt new and unique. I felt like I was a part of this story while reading, feeling the emotions of the characters and rooting for the team as they sought to solve the mystery.

Okay, so I love this series SO much! If you love character driven romantic suspense, look no further! The character journeys that Dani Pettrey manages to give her characters - all while keeping you on the edge of your seat and turning pages - are just so quality and full of depth!

While this one didn’t take over as my favourite in the series - I think The Crushing Depths retains that honour - it certainly didn’t disappoint. Plenty of action and plenty of beautiful character development. One thing I really love about this book (and the whole series) is that she doesn’t wait for the next book to develop relationships outside the main one. It adds so much depth to all the characters and I feel like you get to know them so much more.

Fans of romantic suspense, I will never not recommend Dani Pettrey to you! One of the best in the genre! But make sure you read her books in order! Because despite the fact they all have a stand-alone plot, her characters are all so cross-linked that you will miss character development points if you don’t.

Thank you so much to @bethanyhousefiction and @netgalley for the ARC! All opinions are my own, honest thoughts.

This one wasn't my favourite of the series, but it is still a satisfying read. I'm in the minority with this one, which is not surprising considering I enjoyed book 2 less than book 1, which I loved, and most readers had it the other way around! Lol.

I felt the two romances were too much for this story. It felt a bit like the second romance had no purpose other than to fill up scenes and make sure at the end of the series everyone ended up together. (I'm not sure if this is the last book or if we will have one more with Logan and Emmy.) This led to what I thought was a lot of repetition between the Noah/Brooke scenes and Caleb/Austin scenes.

The mystery was solid and Dani Pettrey writes engaging Christian suspense like no other! While I had no issue getting into the story and familiarizing myself with the characters, those who haven't read the previous two books will be lost as the opening chapters seem to rely on the fact that readers already know these characters, what they look like, and the relationships between all of them. I love how Dani can write about professions I have no experience in and yet I still understand what's going on, and her books are like comfort reads to me even if I haven't even read them before - which is the case with The Deadly Shallows.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-Arc copy of The Deadly Shallows for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

So happy with this book! Dani Pettrey creates a cast of characters that jump off the pages, and her suspense is my favorite kind: learn the details right along with the characters, and good luck if you can guess the ending!

Oh. My. Stars! What a phenomenal conclusion to this series! I have been a super-fan of Dani Pettrey’s books for 10 years now (wow, time sure flies when you’re having fun!) I will forever be a fan of her books, and—with the exception of her debut Submerged which had been out for a few months at the time I read it!—I’ve devoured each one as it released, and am always eagerly anticipating the next one from the moment I turn the final page! And The Deadly Shallows was no exception! This book is AH-MAZING, and it totally blew me away!
Not gonna lie, I have been not-so-patiently waiting two years for this book, and it was 100% worth every second of the wait! I was immediately re-immersed into this story world and the lives of these characters who feel like dear friends to me!
I think Noah and Brooke’s story was my favorite by the tiniest bit, but I loved Caleb and Austin’s story so very much as well!
This may sound crazy considering it’s romantic suspense, but there is something about Dani’s books that makes them comfort reads for me, I can easily fall into them and get lost. Reading one of Dani Pettrey’s books is, for me, like relaxing into a comfy hammock on a beautiful summer day, and allowing myself to just be still and savor the ride! I know I’m in for a wonderful story that will thrill me with pulse pounding suspense, fully engage my brain in trying to solve the fantastically written mystery, melt my heart into a puddle with the swoon-worthy romance, and encourage and strengthen my walk with Jesus in a myriad of beautiful ways, and The Deadly Shallows completely delivers all of the above!
There seriously aren’t words to adequately express just how much I loved everything about this book, and it is one of my favorite reads of 2022! This book is everything and more, if I could I’d give it 10 stars instead of just 5!
It was bittersweet to turn the final page and have to say farewell to our beloved Coastal Guardians, but I’m eagerly anticipating anything and everything that Dani Pettrey writes next!
I most highly recommend The Deadly Shallows! If you haven’t read a Dani Pettrey book yet, well I honestly don’t know what you’ve been doing with your life, but you must rectify that ASAP!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

The Deadly Shallows
by Dani Pettrey
Pub Date: July 5, 2022
Bethany
# 3 in the Coastal Guardians Series
I highly recommend this book! It had me on the first page.
The third book from Dani Pettrey's "Costal Guardians" series offers actions, twists, and plenty of romance. While part of a series, this could easily be read as a stand-alone book. The opening to the book presents a mass shooting, so if you get triggered by this sort thing, I suggest reading one of the other books in the series.
We will be purchasing this for our library.
