Unfortunately, the book didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
The premise—a reunion between exes at a wedding in Greece—sounded promising, but the execution fell flat. While the setting was lovely, and Aaliyah, the main character's friend, was a bright spot, the dual POV felt repetitive and added little to the story. Miscommunication played a big role, but it wasn’t handled well, making Lily seem like she was sabotaging her own relationship without a real reason. The resolution felt rushed, and I just couldn’t connect with Lily and Matt’s dynamic. Overall, I was hoping for more.
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC

A fun sweet read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my ARC.
An escapist, feel-good read stunningly set in a beautiful Greek island with some wonderful London backdrops too.
Lily and Matt were terrific characters to spend time with and I enjoyed the dual point of view giving us access to both their perspectives. The flashback chapters help us see where things went wrong and as they are reunited for a friend’s wedding we have high hopes of where this may lead!
Lovett crafts a riveting realness to the characters and the situations that drew me in quickly. We see a push and pull between Lily and Matt as old feelings resurface. There’s still an attraction between them and their chemistry can be felt. I really enjoyed their witty dialogue, sweet interactions and the will they/ won’t they dynamic.
They go on quite a journey together as they re-examine their past to work through the miscommunications and misunderstandings that lie between them. We can feel the hurt that lingers and wonder whether a second chance really is possible!
Just Friends is a charming, funny story that’s engaging and had me hooked! Lily and Matt are marvellous characters and the reader has an entertaining read as we wonder whether they will put their hearts on the line again!
I'm really sad, because I liked a previous book I read of Jo Lovett's, and I really couldn't enjoy this one. I felt so frustrated by the two main characters and their absolute immaturity when it came to communication (and their lack thereof). I know we don't normally come to romance novels for realistic depictions, but the main conflict in this book felt so unrealistic, it really took me out of the story. :/
Another dose of much needed Greek sunshine
In which a wedding and past romances entwine.
Lily and Matt split up years ago
How will they react to seeing each other, they don't know.
They both admitted they loved each other,
But they still had things to discover.
Neither felt happy about being a part,
Their ending broke both their hearts.
Will this island wedding help them reconnect
Or force them further apart - that's what Lily suspects.
However the attraction between the is powerful so
Will they actually communicate and have another go?
This is truly a will-they-won’t-they romance
With a bridezilla, drama and a second, third and fourth chance!
Nothing goes smoothly for anyone there
But the ending has more than one bridal pair!
An idyllic setting, though there's troubles, too,
With difficult relationships for more than just two.
With secrets from the past impinging now
And families rifts needing to heal somehow.
A heartwarming read even in the rain
To discover if their love is strong enough to risk the pain.
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
A delightful read, this is my honest review.
Love this Author and her writing. Her books are easy to read and are a great palette cleanser for anything heavy.
I liked this book, they’ve got a chance at romance again but can they make it work this time around? I loved the descriptions of Greece, it sounds so beautiful. This was an easy read that I enjoyed but wouldn’t reread, 3 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.
A lovely book about what happens when two people with a past are forced together. We meet Lily and Matt, and travel the shattered past of their relationship, where Matt had his heart broken, not knowing what the love of his life was going through. They meet again, as is necessary in bookland, at a wedding where they are constantly forced together, as they also deal with a bit of a bridezilla and other rom com-erific circumstances. I really enjoyed this book, even though I didn’t quite agree with Lily’s choices and tutted at her a little! Very enjoyable! Thanks to the publisher for the book in return for an honest review.
I found this one so dry and boring. The Greek isle was a fun setting. The crazy group of friends were occasionally entertaining. Lily and Matt were fine. Sweet even. But the writing was just SO dry and choppy. Maybe it’s because it’s a British author, and in general I don’t seem to jibe with the writing style of British romcoms. Either way I was very thankful to be done with the story, and I won’t be thinking about it any going forward. The beginning was very decent, but the last half was slow and uneventful and the book is overall very forgettable. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC to review.
I really enjoyed this latest outing from Jo Lovett. Her writing flows so well and I find myself really rooting for the characters.
I liked the side characters and their own brand of chaos on the sidelines!
This is an ideal sun holiday read.
Just friends follows the story of Lily and Matt as they explore the possibility of a second chance romance when they are reunited at a mutual friends wedding.
I loved the setting in this book. It was a love story surrounded by a wedding and it was an absolute delight to read. The setting made the story that much more enjoyable to read as it just added to the romance vibe.
The adventures in this book involving Matt and Lily were wonderful. Not only did it help rekindle their flame, but it also helped show how much of an amazing team they both made. It made me root for them so much more which I always appreciate in a romance book.
I found this book to be the perfect slow burn holiday read. Not only does it include a wonderful love story, but it also touches on many friendship aspects.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Just Friends was fun and heartfelt, it was an easy and good read and I enjoyed it a lot, but I wouldn't say a must read because it did fall a little flat for me and I can't give a super rave review - but it was cute!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into this one. I struggled to connect with the main characters and kept getting distracted while reading because the plot didn’t grab my attention.
I think others might enjoy it though.
This book was so fun and kept me interested right until the end. The characters were well developed and the story was heartfelt. I would definitely suggest this for book group!
Just Friends is a novel all about finding the right person but just at the wrong time (which I enjoyed reading about because it reminded me of Jane the Virgin!), and a second chance at love! Lily and Matt, now broken up, are reunited at a wedding in Greece 8 years later.
It was a nice read, but I wasn't fond of the miscommunication between Lily and Matt. I felt like that made their relationship issues stretch unnecessarily and for way too long that it just felt a little annoying to read at times. I also didn't really feel that there was much of a progression in terms of how Lily and Matt were as characters - they hadn't really matured much in their 8 years apart and seemed a little like teenagers.
Despite that, I did enjoy reading it. It was a quick, and light-hearted read and I just love books that are centred around a wedding (or have a wedding in it in some way or another), so that was also enjoyable for me to read about.
This book was the ultimate rom-com. If we do not see this made into a film then we have been cheated!
Lily is going to her best friend’s wedding and she knows that her ex, Matt, is going to be there. She is absolutely dreading seeing him and they are inevitably thrown together when things start to go wrong in the build up to the special day.
Absolutely gorgeous!
I adore this author and will read everything she writes
This checked off everything I look for in a book. Was not disappointed. Really enjoyed this book. I will read more from this author. Must read. go and read this, so good. Total fan of Jo Lovett books. all of them are the best.
Thanks Netgalley for this book and publisher.
This should be at the top of the holiday reading list for anyone. Part of the reason I say that is reading about a wedding abroad really makes you want to go abroad!
Also, bonus points for the dog! If you love holiday romances with history this book totally delivers!
A great escapism read, and a perfect one for a holiday as it's set on a Greek island. It's a classic romance and of course they're going to get together but let's enjoy the journey to get there together. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for my arx
Wow I really enjoyed this book, it was funny and sweet and very easily relatable! I felt so much for the characters and just wanted everything to go right for them!! I definitely wanted to go travelling to Greece while I was reading this book!!!
I liked all the characters in the book and thought their story lines just worked together so well to make the book amazing!
The adventure that Lily and Matt went on before the wedding has my whole heart!! I was in love with both of them through that whole scene!!! I also loved whenever they talked about their memories of each other and brought up inside jokes, I thought they were so thoughtful and made you really want things to work out!
