I got about halfway thru and I just could not connect with the characters and the story was not keeping me interested. This book just was not for me but I hope others enjoy
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.
I highly enjoyed reading this book. Go for it.
This isnthe first book I've read by this author and it won't be my last. A wonderful story thar often made me smile throughout. A story of ups and downs, love and sadness but one to keep you feeling upbeat by the end. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. It was very cozy and delightful.
What a lovely story! Katie Fforde's A Springtime Affair is the story of Gilly and her daughter Helena. While mother and daughter aren't looking for love, both find that their lives are affected by a secret in their relationships. A great, uplifting read.
A delightful novel filled with love and drama for a mother and daughter who find the love the have waited for. Gilly and Helena muddle through one crisis after another always hoping for the best even when it seems impossible.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another great read from Katie Fforde. Her books are always a winner in my mind and this one was just as good as the others. She writes these books so well and make everything so vivid. Always a pleasure to read. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
A springtime affair by Katie Fforde.
Gilly runs her own B&B business from her much-loved family home, which she doesn't want to part with - at any price.
A feel good read. Good story and characters. 4*.
A Springtime Affair is such a lovely story about second chances and finding the backbone to love again.
Definitely a story I needed after reading a few thrillers that had me on edge!
Overall, if you are in the mood for a heartwarming, cute read, this is the book you should consider picking up.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
It has been a while since I have read a Katie Fforde book. A Springtime Affair was just the book for a relaxing spring read. The women’s fiction/romance was like watching a TV movie. There are enjoyable characters to get to know like Helena and Gilly. Characters I didn’t like so much so that gave me someone to dislike too. There is slow building romance, family, and friend drama that while not fast paced it was smooth paced.
I enjoyed this story with its look at real life with all the relationships that can become messy at times. I also enjoyed the craft and art of weaving as well as the baking that was showcased in the story. Fans of drama with people who are like the us will enjoy this story too.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is my first experience reading something by Ms. Fforde, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Gilly runs her own B&B and believes she is content with running it. Despite her son suggesting she sell it, she has no intention of doing so. That is until Leo, the handsome realtor, gives her advice otherwise. Gilly and Leo really hit it off, and she really begins to think seriously about his advice regarding her home. Gilly's daughter Helena is also have some home issues of her own. Her landlord wants the property back, so she has six months to find a new home. Helena then meets Jago and they strike up a friendship, but Helena finds herself wanting more than a friendship. Could mother and daughter both have a chance at love? All the characters in this book were lovely and I enjoyed getting to know them. The story was beautifully written and very entertaining. I would definitely like to read more by this author.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
A Springtime Affair is a very clean romance which has two parallel stories of Gilly and Helena who are a mother and daughter pair.
I enjoyed Gilly's story arc more than Helena's story. This book was a bit of struggle for me to finish. There's lot of repetitiveness in the prose which was not really required. The story felt a little bit dragged and boring at the end.
The only character that I really liked was Gilly but the way she was portrayed as weak in some places by Helena was honestly not my favorite. Not my favorite book but I did finish it.
Love is in the air for a mother and daughter in this delightful story . Sweet romance , good storyline , great characters .
I have never actively disliked a book by Katie Fforde -- after all, they are all quick, fun reads. Some are just better than others. Although this wasn't my favorite of hers, it was still romantic and a nice escape. I definitely recommend this author and this book, in particular, definitely has a place in her work.
A Springtime Affair comes out next week on March 8, 2022 and you can purchase HERE. I've read and reviewed a lot of books by Katie Fforde, some of which you can find HERE.
Helena was not happy. She has nearly finished weaving a throw in quite a complicated patter only to be interrupted by a knock at the door. But as she had an idea who was knot king, she didn't feel she could ignore it.
Just a wonderful, warm and sweet story. Likable mother / daughter duo which are easy to root for. Yeah for over coming a fear and rescuing a kitten. Very enjoyable. Thank you netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange of an honest review.
A Springtime Affair by Katie Fforde gave me a few hours of reading but never gave me much of anything else. It was words on a page for me with no real depth to the story.
The characters were ok and the story was ok but I wanted to get to know Gilly and Helena better so I could feel a connection with them as I read. But I was just reading words and not a story.
Thank you NetGalley, Katie Fforde and Bookouture for the ARC of the book A Springtime Affair. This is my personal review.
Katie Fforde has a genuine talent for writing “nice” books that have likeable protagonists, good story lines and pretty happy endings. This novel is no exception. And, believe me, there are times when that is just what the literary doctor has ordered, a nice escape from the rigors of all that which is overwhelming us.
This story is mostly about mom, Gilly, and her daughter Helena. They live in what sounds like a very nice part of the English countryside. Gilly, victim of a bad marriage, runs a B and B that I so wish was real. I would dash right over for Gilly’s homey atmosphere and delicious food. Daughter Helena is a weaver who specializes in large scale projects. Each is moving ahead in life and it looks as if both will find romance and love by story’s end.
In a plot that reminded me a bit of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, Gilly’s rather greedy son and daughter-in-law want her to sell her property in order to fund a new home for them. They ever so kindly (sarcasm intended) will give Gilly a granny flat and allow her to babysit for her granddaughter. Will Gilly be able to resist their blandishments?
Gilly has two potential love interests. There is Leo who is attractive but…and William, Gilly’s accountant. Who will she choose and what will it take for her to recognize what she wants? Will she listen to Helen’s opinions, especially as Helena, a super recognizer, knows something about one of these men?
Helena becomes a very good friend of Jago, a property developer with heart. Will their relationship become the real thing?
This is an easy to read book that goes perfectly with a cup of tea and a few minutes of quiet time. I highly recommend it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
A perfectly adequate family drama/romance with mother daughter duo.
DNF for me unfortunately. Writing style and I didn’t mesh.
Thanks to Bookouture for the ARC to read and review.
Thanks to Bookouture, I was provided an ARC of A Springtime Affair by Katie Fforde via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
***** Coming out March 8, 2022*****
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Gilly owns and runs a Bed and Breakfast, she is divorced and has two grown kids, Helena and Martin. Gilly and Helena are a mother daughter duo who are very close. Martin married a health nut, Cressida, who can be bossy and unreasonable. Martin and Cressida have a daughter who they are over protective. Martin and Cressida pressure Gilly into selling her bed and breakfast, so they can buy a mansion and have Gilly live with them to take care of their daughter. Will Gilly cave in and sell?
Both Gilly and Helena get involved with boyfriends who do not seem to be what they appear? Will they overlook their flaws or will they find the right person in the end? Will this experience cause them to swear off men?
A fun light read that will have you chuckling at times! Perfect read for a vacation. A great book club pick as well!
Fans of Katie Fforde know they will always get a sweet romance with a likable heroine and this book fills the bill. Helena is a fabric artist whose mother Gillian runs a B&B not too far away. Gillian had an acrimonious divorce from Helena's belligerent father, and her son Martin has never quite forgiven her. He and his weight and health-obsessed wife Cressida are pressuring Gillian to sell the family home.
It's a troubled family dynamic. Gillian is fairly spineless. It took her years to be determined enough to get divorced, and now she puts up with Martin's unbelievably manipulative and controlling behavior. I found this off-putting, even though there's a perfunctory apology from Martin at the end when he and Cressida back off a bit.
There are dual romances here. Gillian has not one but two suitors and is also in the midst of deciding her future: does she want to keep running the B&B? She loves it, and her guests, but it's exhausting. In the meantime, Helena is falling in love with her landlord. They begin by saying they will just be housemates, but it's soon clear there's more going on than that. But Jago, the landlord, has secrets from his past that he doesn't share, and Helena wants to know what he's hiding.
I have read a lot of Fforde's earlier books, and there's an interesting shift here. The blustery, bigger than life heroes of the earlier books and the passionate enemies to lovers dynamic have morphed into a gentler sort of scenario. These male characters are more about being kind and supportive. Thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
