Gilly claire and her daughter move to cotswolds to run . gilly meets leo simmons a realtor who makes her rethink her choices. sweet quick read.
I have read a lot of Katie Fforde books and this one definitely has a different feel to it, not worse or better than some of her other books, just different. I enjoyed it from start to finish and really enjoyed the characters of Gilly and Helena. They had the perfectly balanced mother-daughter relationship - Gilly is there to support Helena when he needs it, but Helena is still an independent woman. I felt toward the end we got more Gilly/William and less Helena/Jago even through Helena and Jago have some pretty big advancements in their relationship. I also really wanted a scene with Helena telling Gilly about her engagement - she's all set to and then decides to hold off and the next thing we know she's wearing a ring and her mom knows all about it. There are so many good scenes between them and this would have been more. Martin and Cressida are pretty awful right from the start and they never really grow on you even though they do have a small breakthrough at the end. I wanted to know more about exactly what occurred between Martin and Leo and how Leo got involved in what was going on. Was Gilly's first meeting Leo all a set-up? I would love a sequel book that follows Helena and Jago through their wedding day (and to check in on Gilly and William).
This is my first novel by Katie Fforde. As a new author to me I had no expectations going in. I was in need of a nice relaxing break from my usual thriller type books and this did the job perfectly.
Gilly and Helena, a mother daughter duo, are not in search of a love interest. They have too much going on in their busy lives at the moment. But sometimes live comes when you least expect it.
Gilly and Helena are both quirky in their own way, and you can't help but like them. Gilly's son, Martin, on the other hand is the character you love to hate. I was outraged on her behalf when Martin and his wife Cressida suggest that Gilly should retire. She is not even close to retirement age and they just want her to retire for purely selfish reasons.
The rest of the story you will have to read for yourself!
A Springtime Affair will publish on March 8th.
Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for a fun read.
What a lovely book!
To be honest this was one of the books that I picked from Netgalley and frustratingly I found one after another quite lacking so when I started "A Springtime Affair" I could not even remember the description. But what a gem! The time wasted on every poorly written and unfinished book is worth of coming across one like this one. That rarely happens to me but I just loved all four main characters, their kindness, their maturity and their love for each other, despite the hard things that have happened in their lives. In the end I was so happy for them as if they were real people!
Thanks Netgalley for the free copy of A Springtime Affair and for introducing me to this author in exchange for an honest review. I cannot wait to read more of Katie Fforde.
Katie Fforde books never fail to capture the readers imagination. I loved the mother and daughter bond and how they looked out for each other. Gilly’s son is not such a nice character who would happily use his mother and her money to suit himself. Helena, Giily’s daughter, is a weaver and I loved the idea of her silk scarfs and her craft fairs plus she put her phobia to one side to rescue a kitten. If anyone deserved a happy ending after going that extra mile it was Helena.
There are a few twists and turns in the story but for me this is a definite five stars and highly recommended
A sweet story about a mother and her daughter who both find love in unexpected places. Gilly runs a B&B and is pressured by her son to sell so he can have a bigger house. Helena is a weaver, and is protective of her mother. When Gilly and Helena start meeting men, albeit some drama and misunderstandings, it works out well for a HEA. Really enjoy this author and this book is one I highly recommend.
Helena is busy with her career, making blankets and throws on her loom for her next exhibition, she definitely hasn’t got time for a boyfriend despite her best friends attempts to persuade her otherwise. She meets her landlord when he needs her help and they decide to be friends but help each other out when they need a social partner. Her mother Gilly has a dashing new man friend, Leo, who Helena has seen before. I definitely got drawn into this enjoyable story, another Katie Fforde classic. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Katie Fforde has written a memorable, heartwarming, enjoyable and thought-provoking novel.
She vividly describes the interaction and storytelling of the characters and it shows!
A great story constructed with a mixture of heartbreaking but beautiful events as well ones.
This book was really so endearing and I was captivated not only by the plot but by the writing itself.
