This review is directly from my 11 year old (next month) daughter, who quickly took claim of this book when she noticed it on my shelf. “I love this book! It was sad and happy. Having to be separated from someone you care about is so hard. The writing and flow of the book was super easy to follow and it definitely kept me wanting to know more. I really appreciated the LGBTQIA representation, we need more of that in our books! We are not invisible. The cover was designed beautifully and definitely caught my eye, having a great influence on me picking up the book.”
I was a little indifferent about this one. I love a good MM book but this one sort of missed the spot.
This was a good book, but I struggled to listen to it. I was intrigued by the premise, but never really invested in the characters or plot.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* 3.5 very different but still pretty cool! I think the sci-fi stuff like this is getting popular but i actually liked this one, even if it was romancy lol
Dylan Highmark was prepared for another boring shift Dairy Queen, until Jordon, the new kid in town, walks through the door and is literally 110°F. Dylan is immediately attracted to Jordon and wants to know more about this mysterious boy. As they spend more time together, their relationship evolves, Dylan learns there may be something even more mysterious about Jordon than he originally thought.
This is so much more than a YA queer romance story. It’s has components of a thriller with suspense and intrigue.
Sincere thanks to NetGalley and Disney Books for an advanced listener copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book was good, but for me it fell flat in the beginning and was a slow build toward emotional investment for me.
The narration was likewise good but didn't make me more excited to keep listening.
Fun twist on a sweet romance with a unique science fiction concept that gives it wide appeal. Purchased for our YA collection immediately.
A cute queer fantasy ya read. I really enjoyed this book . I loved The girls and The love story was the CUTEST! Highly recommend for teen readers. I like the suspenseful mystery part of this book as well
I received an advance copy of this book free in exchange for an honest unbiased review.
I definitely wasn't the target demographic for this book. It's very clearly aimed at middle and high school aged readers. It had a vaguely emo, melodramatic feel that I didn't particularly enjoy, but that may be a welcome aesthetic for others. All in all, I appreciated a queer romance where the parents were fully supportive and not an impediment. The boys were reasonably well-developed as characters, as were the cast of side characters. The super powers didn't always seem internally consistent, and I wish there was more exploration of powers generally, and their broader context. However, I suppose it did add a slightly different flavor to an otherwise average story.
One particular issue that I had with this book, that almost led me to give up on it completely, was the narrator. The reading pace felt agonizingly slow which only compounded the teenage angst. I wouldn't have been able to finish this book at all if I hadn't adjusted the speed. Once I cranked it up to normal speaking cadence, I found my enjoyment increased significantly overall.
Children’s Book World in Haverford, PA, recently coordinated a (virtual) school visit for classes at my high school with debut author Brian Zepka. He shared insights into his writing process, stories from his publishing journey so far, and behind-the-scenes tips such as how discover potential literary agents and draft a query letter “pitching” your book. Getting to hear the author's perspective made the experience of reading The Temperature of Me and You extra special. I listened to the audiobook edition, narrated by Andrew Gibson, in preparation for the virtual event. Gibson did a nice job voicing and differentiating the various characters, and bringing out the humor in the story. Thank you to Disney Audiobooks for the opportunity to access and listen to this audiobook!
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to The Temperature of Me and You. It was an entertaining story for casual listening, that did not require excessive thought or complicated plot line and characters that were well written although fairly basic for a YA sci-fi queer romance. It was a fun one-time read that I'm glad I was able to read and would thoroughly support, however it was not particularly unique plotline that will stay with me for years to come. A great read for someone who is looking for a new story without the book hangover.
The narrator did an excellent job portraying these characters, and I found his voice enjoyable to listen to.
I thought this was a great book. I feel like there is a need for more books like this for young adults. I hope to see more from this author in the future.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved listening to the audiobook while walking around my college campus; the story was captivating and I kept on wishing I could keep on listening every time I reached my destination. I wasn’t expecting this book to have the sci-fi/fantasy element and I’m usually not a huge fan of that, but I really enjoyed it in this book! And the initial Dairy Queen meeting was ICONIC! Thanks to NetGalley and Brian Zepka for the advanced copy of The Temperature of Me and You for review!

Overall: HOW CAN ANYONE DISLIKE THIS BOOK. Yeah, sure, some things were outright ridiculous but they fit so perfectly with the universe that the author created. Go ahead and suspend your disbelief because this book is pure and wonderful. I loved Jordan and Dylan's relationship and also, finally, A GAY STORY WRITTEN BY A MAN. I know that's an odd thing to love but YAY! And a great book at that! The cover is fantastic, and their relationship is so pure and cute. And yes, I completely relate to Dylan. In fact, his reactions to things I often said to myself right before he did and maybe I'm a narcissist but that made me think that this character was super realistic. The only minor MINOR fault I can find is that I often couldn't tell the difference between Poppy and Kirsten.
A fantastic Debut novel and I'm excited to read more from Zepka.
Thank you to NetGalley and Disney Audiobook.
I tried many times to listen to this book. After the first few chapters, I lost interest. Unfortunately, I think it was the narrator. I couldn’t be kept interested.
A fun sci-fi romance for anyone who has ever felt a little too much chemistry with someone else. Listened to the audiobook, and it was very enjoyable. A sweet gay romance with conspiracy, cover-up, and secret abilities. This book is sure to melt hearts!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an eARC of this title in exchange for my honest review.

The audiobook narrator did a great job bringing these characters to life. I enjoyed his performance. I think he set a good pace that kept the story flowing well, and he didn’t make the teenage characters sound stereotypical or cheesy at all.
You know the phrase, “A picture is worth a thousand words?” Well, the cover of this book provides a sneak peak of how lovely this story truly is. Dylan is completely in awe of Jordan, while Jordan is looking at Dylan like he is finally being seen for the first time. Dylan’s hand on Jordan’s chest shows how trusting he is, while Jordan shows his vulnerability by allowing Dylan’s hand, but also wanting to keep it there for the fear Dylan will run away.
Anyway, you can probably tell that I liked this book. I am definitely not the most eloquent, but I really did like this book a lot.
My heart was aching for how lonely and isolated Jordan and Dylan are before they meet and while they are trying to figure things out (their relationship and their lives). Bless their little hearts. I love them so much.
I laughed and snorted so many times while reading this. Since I had an eBook version, I bookmarked all of the times I laughed out loud. There is a lot.
This book does a wonderful job of displaying healthy yet realistic high school friendships and interactions. Although, I couldn’t get past Perry’s name, because every time I had to read it, I pictured Perry the Platypus.
Kirsten and Perry remind me a lot of Sam and Carly from iCarly, but better. (Am I allowed to say that?) I love their group activities and how much they love and support each other. I desperately wish they were real, so I would have a chance to be in their friend group.
The Temperature of Me and You was not what I expected it to be and would add that it's a sci fi/fantasy to the description. Having said that, it was a very sweet romance with a predatory corporate interest on it's heels.
Dylan has been taking flack for being the only out kid at his school for years and wants to have a boyfriend - one that he finds on his own and isn't a forced setup with someone he doesn't actually like. After a particularly bad fix up, the adorably cute Jordan walks into the DQ where he works. As Dylan tries to get close to Jordan, he finds Jordan has a lot to hide and a lot to fear. They both need to decide how much they can trust one another and if their relationship will be worth the challenges. A very sweet story about love, friendship, and finding your place in the world.
Excellent audio narration.
Some things don't go together: like ice cream and heat. When the two combine, things melt or explode. In this case, the blizzard exploded when met with heat and Dylan's heart melted at the same time for the stranger in his Dairy Queen. Sparks and melted ice cream fly in this teenage romance/fantasy/superhero? story.
I can't say the same for me while reading this one... my heart didn't soften toward either main character nor did it explode for this lackadaisical plot. I think this novel had too many different elements: coming of age, bullying, balancing friendships with relationships, doing the right thing, teenage rebellion, mystery, superhero, friends to enemies, enemies to friends, conspiracy theories. I think I was overwhelmed with all the topics tackled and none were feted out in-depth. I also didn't really feel like I got to know Dylan or Jordan all that well. I just couldn't get into their story.
Thanks to Netgalley and Disney Audiobooks for the audio ARC of this. I switched back and forth between the ebook from my library and the audio.
The cover of this is absolutely amazing and the premise sounded very up my alley - I adored TJ Klune’s The Extraordinaries, so I was ready for more queer high school aged superheroes. I just didn’t ever click with this one. There was such a heavy emphasis on the insta-love relationship, and it felt longer than it was as I was reading it. I’m always glad for more queer books, but this one was not a hit for me. I hope other people enjoy it, though, because I think there was definitely some possibility, especially for the youngest end of the intended audience (12-13 year olds)
