It's definately YA. It's a short trip through the mind of a teenager that acts way too old for what she's going through (like most teens)
It's a mysterious cruise that leaves a group of teens wondering what or who is right and who is hiding something.
Unfortunately, this fell flat for me and it was not a fan favorite I really wanted to love the characters, but the plot was lacking lacking detail and organization
It's been quite some time since I read a story that makes me thrilled and almost can't hold my excitement to know how things are wrapped up. And this book just brings back how great it felt!
Girl Overboard by @sandrablockauthor success made me sit on the edge throughout the book. The ending of every chapter me hungry to find out more. Honestly, this book makes me crave to read more thrillers!

I was really excited about the prospect of this book. The idea of a book with a disappearance that could have been a death, multiple suspects locked on a cruise ship with no where to go and the inevitable twists/turns the mystery would take before it ended really intrigued me.
I didn't know this was a YA until i finished it it was that good. Well written and fast paced, loved the characters and setting
This book would be a good for a teen or young adult that wants a little mystery. As an adult, it feel a little short, but I think kids would love it!
Izzy embarks on a cruise with her family. As she would rather be doing anything else, she quickly meets Jade who becomes her โcruise bff.โ When Jade disappears and itโs ruled a suicide, Izz will stop at nothing to find out the truth. With a few twists and turns, this book was a fun read.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
Girl Overboard was a quick read for me and it did keep my interest. The ending felt a tad bit rushed, but it all came together.
A mention of Doris Day in any book gets bonus points from me!
3.75 stars!
This was one of my most anticipated ARCs to get through, but was left in disappointment. I am a sucker for a good locked room thriller/mystery. And what better setting than a cruise ship where a disappearance leaves you wondering if itโs accidental death, murder, or all around missing.
Block had an amazing concept for this book, and it could have been so much better if there was more detail and depth put into the book. It was a bit lacking in excitement and ultimately fell a bit short. It felt a bit drawn and soft spoken in most of the book and youโre left craving for some speed and action.
You know that I am a Ruth Ware fan. Well, this is Ruth Ware like for young adults! It is such an easy read, smooth and crisp in the writing, with just the right amount of thrill to keep you guessing. At times it was a bit far fetched and sometimes quite frustrating when no one believed Izzyโs intuition. But overall this one was right up my alley and I really enjoyed it.

Unfortunately this book fell way short of my expectations. The idea was there and this could have been an excellent story, but the execution fell flat. Throughout the book, it just seemed like the story was half-baked, like something a professor in a creative writing class would call a solid first draft. I think there was so much more character development that could have been done, more suspense to keep you guessing which direction the book would take, but unfortunately that just wasnโt the case.
At multiple points in the book, I found myself rereading pieces thinking I missed mentions of very specific (and often important) details, just to realize they hadnโt been there. I received this as an ARC from NetGalley and sometimes there are still typos/errors due to the unpublished nature of the books, but in this case, they were too egregious to look over - there were whole words missing from sentences in places throughout the book. I hate to ding books for this, but Iโm hoping the final version fixed these and potentially was updated to incorporate some of the details I found myself trying to figure out where they came from. Iโd love to know if thatโs the case, but I donโt care enough to purchase a copy or reread this book.
Despite the incredible potential this book has, which I added a star for, this is a book I would recommend skipping. Iโm almost upset that I read it because all I can think about now is how much better I wish it was to give Jadeโs story the writing it deserved.
To me it was more of a mystery than a thriller, or maybe it can be the perfect thriller for someone who starts reading young adult thriller. Itโs full of twits and revelations.
I enjoyed the fast paced but i guess it was too easy for me, and I felt like there was a lot missing in the story. I was really happy with the twists and the ending.
I enjoyed this book. It wasn't anything overly unique, but I felt it was a much better version of Ruth Ware's The Woman in Cabin 10, even though it's for teens. It's a fun, quick read, although you may not want to read it while one a cruise ;-)
A teen detective/ mystery on a cruise, sign me up! Girl Overboard revolved around Izzy, who is currently on a sunny Bermuda. cruise with her family. When Izzy meets Jade, a they form a quick connection and friendship that either saw coming. But, when Jade mysteriously disappears, and her family does not seem concerned, Izzy realized there is something else going on that she must uncover.
This is a great teen-sleuth novel that I really enjoyed. The setting of the cruise ship and the sunny islands makes this a fun destination thriller story. This has a good mystery that keeps you engaged until the end. I recommend this to any fans of the genre or those looking for a fun mystery read!
I couldnโt put this one down. So many twists and turns and I couldnโt wait to figure out who did it.
Makes me never want to take a cruise!
Girl Overboard was a fun and fast read, I read it on a vacation cruise to Bermuda, and the author really nailed the setting, excessive passenger behaviors, and the way teens are sort of left to fend for themselves onboard the ships--which basically means they're generally unsupervised with a few thousand strangers on a floating microcosm, with little to do but get bored and get in trouble. I enjoyed the character dynamics and the way the few teens on board formed instant connections; whether those connections were made due to true interest or lack of options is up for debate but that felt very authentic to me. It reminded me of the way kids form deep, instant bonds at summer camp, or other situations where you're suddenly living with a group of kids you've never met and will never see again. I also liked the mix of affection, exasperation, concern, and disconnect between Izzy and her parents (who were trying so hard to just enjoy their vacation while parenting a teen and a toddler), I had hoped more of the action would take place on land in Bermuda, but the ship was also a great setting for this type of claustrophobic mystery, and the story utilized some of my favorite thriller tropes. I won't say what, due to spoilers, but I enjoyed a few reveals in particular and would recommend this as a good summer break beach book. Thanks to NetGalley for the early copy!
I love how so many things happened in the book. I could not keep myself from the book because it was so good
This book centers around Izzy, a teenager stuck on a cruise with her family. At first, irritated to be cut off from her friends, Izzy ventures to the Hangout, a place for teens on the cruise. Here she makes friends with a girl named Jade, but becomes concern when Jade suddenly goes missing. A good young adult thriller for high school students.
A Caribbean cruise with your parents and toddler brother, what could possibly go wrong?! This YA novel is action packed, full of friendship, mystery and eye rolling parent antics. A fun easy beach read, but maybe take caution reading it on the high seas!
This one was one of those far fetched young adult novels that I just don't ever think could be true. It did keep me on the edge of my seat for the most part though. I think that this one would appeal to those who love unbelievable thrillers.
Girl Overboard is a YA murder mystery with a Miss Marple-esque teenage sleuth. Izzy is on a cruise with her family when she meets Jade. They begin hanging out and are forming a quick friendship when Jade disappears. Jadeโs relatives donโt seem too concerned about her and Izzyโs parents take the whole incident lightly. So Izzy tries to find out the answers for herself. Thrilling hijinks occur, obviously. I thought this was a pretty well written novel. The characters were believable as high schoolers (one of my pet peeves is ostensibly teenage characters who talk like 30-somethings) and I was interested in the outcome. I did think the explanation was expected, but the description didnโt say there would be a shocking twist. I look forward to the authorโs next work!
