IT has been a long while since Tess Gerritsen has released a Rizzoli & Isles book. I tore through "Listen to me." It is great to have them teamed-up and back on the page.
Another great Rizzoli and Isles story by Tess Gerritsen. This one has Jane Rizzoli’s mom as another main character along with Jane and Maura. The story is narrated by Jane’s mom Angela, Amy, Jane. and Maura. Not only is Jane investigating a murder, but Angela is also having issues with the new neighbors that could get her in trouble. Jane's murder has several unexplained threads leading from the case that doesn’t make sense. Excellent story as usual, if you are reading the series you won't be disappointed. If Rizzoli and Isles are new to you it can be read stand-alone but you will want to go find the many stories before also. Thank you, NetGalley and publishers Ballantine Books / Penguin Random House New York. I truly enjoyed this eARC.
Enjoyable but typical Rizzoli & Isles. I guess I had watched too many tv shows to thoroughly enjoy this book.
Once again Tess Gerritsen scores big with her latest Rizzoli and Isles thriller, Listen To Me. From page one to the very last paragraph Gerritsen captivates the reader with her nail biting tension and very fast moving plot. There were so many twists and turns, it was hard at times trying to piece it all together. But Gerritsen made it seem effortless.
What I particularly enjoyed about Listen To Me was the voice of Angie Rizzoli playing such an important role in the plot. Angie's fierce dedication to her neighborhood proved what a strong and versatile character she has become to the series. In Listen To Me we got to know her strength and realize what a force of nature she really has evolved into.
I hope that we can look forward to more from Rizzoli and Isles.
While I've never read this series, I watched the TV show religiously. This is an author I've read before and will again. Many of the main characters were very familiar and recognizable. I did feel the gap in where people are in their lives now. Apparently I missed some marriages, births, love interests, etc., but it was still easy to read as a standalone.
The chapters alternate between characters Amy, Angela, Maura and Jane. There is a primary case to solve and several equally interesting subplots.
Boston police detectives, Jane and her longtime partner Frost, respond to the homicide of nurse Sofia Suarez.
Amy was a college student when a hit and run changed her life. Her father, Dr. Antrim, worked with Sofia at the hospital and she took care of Amy as she recovered from her injuries.
Sofia's murder takes unforeseen turns, long buried secrets are exposed. The case covers many years and suspects in other states.
Angela, Jane's Mom, is a longtime resident in an established neighborhood of people she knows way too much about. That is except for one house across the street with a new couple, the Greens. Jane would describe her Mom as annoyingly nosy. She's not exactly prying, just concerned and helpful. The extremely private, nonsocial couple has blinds and bars on the windows. Angela's convinced there's something going on and her incessant curiosity nearly lands her in jail. The secrets revealed by all the neighbors she thinks she knows so well have many surprising twists and loads of family drama. While Angela is an endearing character, glad she's not on my street.
Maura is in an unusual relationship and playing in an amateur orchestra. Seems she has secrets also.
There were several clues I figured out early on, this didn't detract from the overall story.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the digital copy of
"Rizzoli & Isles, Listen to me, #13". by Tess Gerritsen and to Random House Ballantine Books. These are my honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily.
It’s been quite awhile since there has been a book in this series. It’s fun to visit the characters again. This book is a good addition to the series. There is always a bit of humor in the stories along with suspense and a plot that will keep you interested. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
I have been (not so) patiently waiting for the next Rizzoli and Isles book for YEARS. I wasn't as excited about the plot of this latest installment going in, but Tess Gerritsen does not disappoint. I think anyone could jump in to the series with this book, which I thought was a smart move, since it's been 5 years since the last one came out. Once again, Gerritsen weaves two different storylines together perfectly. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough Maura.
Another amazing adventure with 2 of my favorite crime fighters!!
I've enjoyed this series from the very beginning and it just keeps getting better & better.
I really liked that Angela was so much more present in Listen To Me. She had always been vocal and opinionated, now she is a hero lol.
Around every corner there was a new twist that kept me guessing from start to finish.
I want to start off by saying that I’ve been a Tess Gerritsen fan since the first Rizzoli and Isles book was published. I’ve read every single book and am first in line to grab them the day they come out. I was thrilled to be approved for an ARC of “Listen to Me” and started reading immediately, I could NOT put this book down!! I’ve never been disappointed by a Tess Gerritsen book and this one was no exception. It was fast paced, action packed, full of twists and turns. Tess is an expert at dangling a lot of little threads and then weaving them into absolute magic by the end. I loved the alternating POVs and trying to put together all the pieces as I read. As always, the ending was brilliant and came together in a way I had not figured out on my own. This was one more in the long line of outstanding Rizzoli and Isles novels and it’s just made me hungry for the next.
3.75 Stars 🌟
This was an unusual read for me. I received an ARC for this book and was excited (as well as a bit curious) to read it. Why, might you ask? Well, sometimes I feel like we go through stages as readers. There are many, many authors that I used to read many, many years ago. Authors like Danielle Steel, Mary Higgins Clark, Fern Michaels (We are talking a LONG time ago). I have since moved on to other authors. I think that with time, some of these authors have lost their attraction from me.
Well, Tess Gerritsen was one of those authors I used to love to read. I think I must have read every book she had written at that time - and there were several. Like I mentioned before, it might just be that we enter different stages of our lives and our tastes changes as our experiences evolve. Anyway, a long entry to just say that I was HOPING that this would be an author that I still enjoyed...even if it had been many years of a hiatus.
I was pleased to say that I enjoyed this book from the very beginning. There were issues that I had with the pacing, and parts felt a little bit choppy - especially the way the POV's were structured. I enjoyed the various mysteries going on and I liked Jane's tenaciousness as she tried to solve the case (and her Mom was hilarious).
Why just 3.75 stars? Well, I just didn't feel the relationships that had made this series so wonderful. Jane and Gabriel were mentioned only briefly. Maura and Daniel got little to no page time, but most importantly, it felt like Maura and Jane were only work colleagues - and that made me sad.
It is important to point out that it has been a LONG time since I've read a book from this series, so there may have been issues or events that created these chasms. That I do not know. All I can say is that while I enjoyed the overall story arc and its conclusion, I MISSED the character relationships that I remembered from the past.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.
“Absolutely first rate—readers will be thrilled and delighted by this new Rizzoli & Isles outing. Loved this book kept.me on the edge. If you like Tess Gerristen's best female characters. Then this is the read for you. Loved it
Another great addition to the Rizzoli & Isles series. Of which I’ve been a devoted follower from the beginning! I’ve read all of Tess Gerritsen’s books. Series and stand-alones. Bottom line…if Tess Gerritsen writes it I’ll be reading it!🙋🏻♀️
We get to visit with all our favorite characters. Jane, the notoriously bad-ass homicide detective and her partner Barry Frost, as well as Maura the quiet medical examiner. And In this latest offering, Jane’s mom Angela plays a prominent role.
While Jane is slightly occupied trying to solve a brutal murder of a nurse, Angela keeps blowing up her phone! Angela has unofficially appointed herself as head of the block watch in her neighborhood. And oh my, Ms. Angela is open for business! She has her suspicious eye on everyone!
Simply a fun addition to the series. Part police procedural, part neighborhood drama!
Honestly, Angela’s antics were a bit OTT at times. But there was a superb balance between the storylines, making for seamless story telling.
If you’re new to the series you could easily jump in here. You’re provided with plenty of information and background on the characters as to not feel you’re missing anything.
This author never disappoints! Looking forward to her next release.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group Ballantine.
I've read many books by Tess Gerritsen and have enjoyed them all. This one was no different. Her books are faced pace and easy to read. Great characters that are easy to root for. I highly recommend this book.
This mystery is told from 4 points of view: Rizzoli; Isles; Rizzoli's mother Angie; and Amy. Rizzoli is chasing down a murderer, while her mother tries to figure out what's going on with her complicated neighbors. A cold case from Maine, blood types and DNA, combine with intuition and following the clues to result in a satisfying conclusion. Fans of the series should enjoy the varied viewpoints in this page-turner.
Listen To Me is a spectacular mystery/suspense by Tess Gerritsen. I haven't read any Tess Gerritsen books for a while, after reading this, I think it's time I catch up on her other books. This is a well-written book that is attention-grabbing at the beginning and it holds on to you until the end. Jane is a homicide detective with a new case. Her mother Angela is working on her own mysteries. This story has plenty of humor, action and suspense and will keep readers glued to Listen To Me. Kudos to Ms. Gerritsen for weaving this amazing story. Listen To Me is book 13 of the Rizzoli & Isles Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Jane Rizzoli is a Boston homicide detective and Maura Isles a medical examiner. When Sofia Suarez is found murdered in her home, they investigate. Sofia was a beloved nurse and worked at the same hospital as the father of a hit and run victim, Amy. Does this tie into Sofias murder?
Angela is Janes mom and the neighborhood busy body. She has a couple of new neighbors that she is concerned about. When a 16 year old neighborhood girl disappears, she suspects their involvement. Where is the girl? What are they hiding?
This is my first book by this author. I haven’t read the series or watched the television adaptation yet. I didn’t feel lost stepping into the series but I definitely want to go back and read the other books. I would definitely recommend.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.
Detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles are investigating the gruesome murder of a nurse, whilst also protecting a young student from a stalker. But immersed in their day jobs, will they lose sight of something sinister happening much closer to home?
This is the thirteenth book in the Rizzoli and Isles series by author Tess Gerritsen. It seems such a long time since I read one of this series but all the usual characters were back. I started reading these books a while ago and was hooked by the characters and also enjoyed the television series. Although it was good to be reading another book from the series I didn’t quite feel it was as strong as many of the previous ones.
So for me, this was not my favorite read.
3 stars
Rizzoli & Isles: Listen To Me by Tess Gerritsen is the thirteenth book in the Rizzoli & Isles series. Tess Gerritsen is a master at writing plots that contain the just-right combination of suspense and humor. Rizolli & Isles: Listen to me is amusing, and the antics delightful. For those of you that have not read the entire series, the books work well as individual reads. Thriller bookworms that enjoy a lighthearted mystery will fall in love with this beautiful story of an extraordinary mother-daughter relationship. The characters are loveable and feel like members of your family
Synopsis:
Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and her colleague forensic pathologist Maura Isles encounter a troubling case whereby a seemingly random homicide took place. Rizzoli & Isles: Listen To Me is available on July 5th. (4.75 ⭐⭐⭐⭐)
Thank you, NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, for the opportunity to review Rizzoli & Isles: Listen To Me. Kudos to Tess Gerritsen for writing this fabulous novel!
Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are back in there latest adventure in "Listen To Me"! several different story lines take you on this adventure. They are investigating a vicious murder of ICU nurse, Sofia Suarez, who was killed in her own home!
At the same time Angela (Jane's mother) is keeping an eye on her neighborhood and becomes suspicious of the new neighbors moving in across the street. It's a couple who move in at night, the windows are always covered, they don't interact with any of their neighbors, all of which arouse the interest of Angela.
The separate story lines are fairly easy easy to keep straight and they are entertaining. #13 in the series can be read as a stand alone, but if you want all the backstories, I'd check out the earlier books which will help keep everyone straight!
I'm grateful to NetGalley for being able to get the ARC so that I can recommend it to those who love Tess Gerritson's books!
Jane Rizzoli, a Boston homicide detective, and her usual ‘sidekick’ Maura Isles, medical examiner, hunt down the murderer of a seemingly wonderful and beloved nurse in this latest installment of Tess Gerritsen’s popular Rizzoli & Isles series.
Who would bludgeon to death a quiet, popular widowed nurse in her own home and why? Is it connected to the murder of a woman in Maine many years before whose young daughter was also kidnapped, whereabouts still unknown?
Connections begin to form and secrets begin to come to light - it seems no one is who they say they are and senseless murders start to make sinister sense.
Meanwhile, Angela Rizzoli, Jane’s feisty and (sometimes meddling) mother, is learning dangerous secrets about her neighbors which ultimately puts her own life in danger.
This latest installment in this series is first rate. Several parallel mysteries / multiple storylines are happening in this thriller and fans of Rizzoli & Isles will be pleased with this latest outstanding series entry. Humor, suspense, and a well-plotted mystery kept me turning pages well into the night. So glad I gave this novel a try; it had been a while since I read a Rizzoli & Isles mystery and I was instantly captivated and ensnared in Gerritsen’s homicidal web.
