Although this is a Rizzoli & Isles novel, Dr. Maura Isles plays a pretty limited role in the story, and her part focuses more on her extracurriculars than her professional work. Detective Jane Rizzoli plays a prominent role, investigating the murder of a surgical intensive care nurse, Sofia Suarez, who did not seem to have any enemies, but appeared to be searching for someone or something from her past. This leads to an unsolved murder in a small college town in Maine from fifteen years ago, but also may relate to the hit-and-run accident that injured Amy Antrim, the daughter of the intensive care director, Dr. Antrim.
However, the real star of the book is Angela Rizzoli, the mother of Jane Rizzoli. Angela is a neighborhood busybody, wanting to know everyone's business, and seeing potentially criminal activity where it does not necessarily exist. Her focus is on the new neighbors, the Greens, who are unfriendly, keep their blinds closed all the time, and engage in other behavior that fuels Angela's suspicion, although she also gets herself involved in the private affairs of other neighbors. The local police are tired of her calling them with their suspicions, and even her daughter thinks she is going overboard with her snooping and wants her to stop, but her instincts tell her otherwise. Her behavior will have significant consequences, some positive and some negative.
I received a copy of the e-book via NetGalley in exchange for a review.
Tess Gerritsen continues the Rizzoli and Isles tradition with a new adventure: Listen to Me. This is a fun mystery to devour, with Jane Rizzoli's mother playing a prominent role. Once started and,you want to keep reading. All the essential elements of the series are present and Rizzoli/Isles fans won't be disappointed. Glad these two are back...it's been worth the wait. A solid five stars.
I started reading the Rizzoli and Isles series during the summer of 2020, after a reading break due to brand new pandemic anxiety. We weren’t in lockdown any longer, but we lived right outside of Las Vegas at that time and we weren’t going out (way too hot). The entire series was such a detour from my usual choices, but I really enjoyed the books a lot. They were like mini samosas - you know how it goes, you might not mean to keep eating them, but they’re just so delicious that you just do, and you enjoy every last bite.
This title was no different. I started this one even with a bunch of titles on my TBR pile and just couldn’t stop until I was finished. A lot of fun and kept my attention all the way through. I really loved how Angela featured more prominently in this one as well (I hope we’ll read more of her in the future)!
This was the best mystery/thriller I’ve read in quite a long while - I laughed out loud at several points (which was a really nice bonus, given the plot), I adored this and it’s definitely on my list of recommendations for a great summer thriller.
*This title could easily be enjoyed as a stand alone, if you haven't read the series.
A new Rizzoli & Isles mystery is always welcome. This time the book contains not one, but two mysteries. The first involves a perplexing murder of a 50-something ICU nurse. The second is taken on by Angela Rizzoli -- a one-woman neighborhood watch -- against daughter Jane’s advice.
As Jane and her partner Barry Frost track down cell phone calls and google searches, they end up seeing unexplained connections between the nurse’s murder and a cold case in Maine.
Meanwhile, Maura debuts as a concert pianist, while Angela is troubled by standoffish new neighbors across the street and a missing teenager further down the block. I especially delighted in the development of Angela Rizzoli. (Move over Miss Marple!) If this novel were a movie, Angela would get “best supporting actress.”
“Listen to Me” felt like a quieter mystery than earlier books in the series, with different facets of motherhood serving as a unifying theme. Nevertheless, it still contains the twists we come to expect and enjoy from Gerritsen.
My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book. I found this really fun. Great characters and narrative.
This is multiple arcs that come together. Sofia Suarez is a nurse killed in her home. Amy Antrim, the daughter of a coworker of Mauras is recovering from an accident and has a stalker. These 2 stories will over lap. Meanwhile Angela is being her busy body self watching all her neighbors business, gets her own case and finds herself with a mess of her own. Highly recommend.
Welcome back Jane and maura from Rizzoli and isles series . They are not sure about this senseless murder. Lots of twist throughout the story.. Who done it? Got to read the book when it comes out. Love this author so much.
Thanks to Netgaley, Ballantine, and Transworld, and tess gerritsen for arc in exchange for a review

Listen to Me by Tess Gerritson is the latest novel about her detective/coroner duo — Rizzoli and Isles. This installment is somewhat different from her previous novels in that the reader is more immersed in the personal lives of the two main characters — the hidden concert piano playing ability of one and the numerous conflicts with her busybody mother (who plays a key role in this story) for the other.
The novel is replete with several subplots — new neighbors, an estranged neighbor, a body building neighbor, scrabble playing neighbors, etc. all of whom have secrets. Mix all of this with a missing teenager, a series of burglaries, a murder, a plethora of secrets and illicit affairs and you have a recipe for an interesting and exciting book to read which, once started, is extremely difficult to put down.
I thank NetGalley and Ballantine Books/Random House for the opportunity to read and review an advance reader copy of this enjoyable book.
Listen to Me by Tess Gerritsen
You can never go wrong with a Rizzoli & Isles book and this definitely holds true for this book. Not only are they trying to solve their own case but Rizzoli's mom has her own case she's working on and needs her daughters help...or does she! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for another great read and for allowing me to leave my opinion.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House Ballentine for allowing me to review this book and give my honest opinion. I like so many people watched Rizzoli and Isles. I didn't know it was a book series and once I found it, I read every book (I even met Tess at a book signing at a library in Las Vegas!) When this book came up as a book I could request, I pounced. It was like coming home. Angela cooking a big family dinner with Maura and Barry (and his boring wife) with Jane and her hot husband Gabriel and their adorable daughter. This book, like every other, starts with a murder. A real who dun nit. I took me until I was halfway through it to figure out parts of it but parts were still a mystery until it happened. If I had any gripes about the book, not enough Maura and not enough Gabriel. #rizzoliandisles #listentome
I love this series and all of the characters. This one did not disappoint was absolutely fantastic as always.
Jane's mother who is the super detective of her neighborhood truly shines in this book. We have all come to know and love her, even her nosiness. However, we can't overlook her observing ways. Jane merely brushes off her Mom, but sometimes that is not such a good idea.
I love the Rizzoli & Isles series! It has been a long wait since the last book in this series but this one was definitely worth waiting on! Another great mystery, with twists, turns and a super surprise at the end keeps the reader on their toes.
The author gives her characters such life that you feel like you grew up with them and live in their neighborhood. And Listen to Me, is no different from her other books. You will laugh, cry and get involved in their situations as the author takes you through another exciting mystery
Even if you are new to the Rizzoli & Isles you will love this book. It can be read as a standalone so don't let the fact that you have not read any of the series keep you from diving into this one.
Finally, Angela Rizzoli comes out from behind the shadows of her daughter, Jane. Angela is the neighborhood busybody- always putting her nose where it doesn’t belong.
While she attempts to alert her crime fighting daughter of the ‘crimes’ being committed under her nose, Jane finds herself trying to solve a complicated murder with her partner Ryan Frost.
This series is just great fun- the relationships between the characters are complex and flawed and funny and lovable. Take a few days off and get into this one-you will love it!
Name of Book: Listen to Me
Author: Tess Gerritsen
Genre: Mystery/Thriller
Publisher: Random House Publishing Group ~ Ballantine
Pub Date: July 5, 2022
My Rating: 4++ (Should give 5 stars!)
I have read twenty-five author, Tess Gerritsen novels so this #26 for me and is #11 ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ .
Yep I am a big fan!
Once again our gals Jane Rizzoli, a homicide detective, and Maura Isles, a medical examiner are working together. However, this is more a Rizzoli and Rizzoli! I always love when family is included; in this case Jane’s mother Angela is more involved.
Jane and Frost are solving a brutal murder of Sofia Suarez, a well love nurse at the local hospital.
Maura is involved but I love that she and other Doctors have formed an orchestra,
Side Note: I worked as a Guidance Counselor at a high school that had an amazing orchestra so I totally loved this side of Maura!
My first thoughts when I finished ~ this is one of THE Best in this series, I totally enjoyed it!! True ~ [Author: Tess Gerritsen] never disappoint.
Want to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group ~ Ballantine for this eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.

Did I tell you that I screamed when I saw Tess Gerritsen releasing a new book in the Rizzoli & Isles series? I thought we were not getting another book in the Rizzoli & Isles series. But Tess Gerritsen definitely surprised everyone with this new book coming out.
I'm beyond excited that I read this book before release day. And I got to say that I did love the plot in this book. I did not expect what was brewing in this book. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book so keep an eye out for it. It definitely makes the read so much more enjoyable.
I will say that I felt a bit disconnected from the lack of character relationships. I won't go into too much detail. But I do wish for more. That's what made this series my favorite.
So, this is the first Rizzo and Isles book that I’ve ever (I guess it’s a huge series), BUT that being said, I stuck with it and loved it. I haven’t read a book in a long time with such likable, relatable characters that I really enjoyed and became attached to. It made me want to read the rest of the books in the series ASAP (and I will!) Also, a great intriguing storyline that was well thought out and really kept the book at a great pace. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to continue the rest of the books in the series. Thank you Netgalley and Ballantine Books for this ARC!
It's been five years since the last Rizzoli & Isles book, but this one was worth the wait!!
Jane and Maura are their usual selves, hyper-focused on their jobs. We reunite with Barry Frost, his wife Alice, and Jane's Mom Angela, who has a major role in the book. We meet/re-meet some of Angela's neighbors, also a pivotal part of the story.
I have always loved the way Ms. Gerritsen weaves seemingly unrelated strings of detail into whole cloth by the end of her books. There are so many intricate details that I usually don't figure out the "who-dunnit" until the end.
Don't hesitate to pick up this long-waited sequel, you won't be sorry!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
I have read many of the Rizzoli and Isles books. I found this one as enjoyable as all the others. There’s always a mystery to solve along with getting to know all the characters. Most of the characters have been in the other books in this series. This one centered on Jane’s mother, Angela. She is definitely a character and makes this story a fun read. While this is a stand alone book, I think, it would be easier to follow the story if you were familiar with the characters by reading some of the earlier books in the series.
This is the first book of the Rizzoli and Isles series that I have had the pleasure of reading. Wow it was really great. Great storyline, great characters. I am looking forward to reading the entire series.
Love the friendship between the main characters as the help each other with cases and through life. Angela is spot on in her suspicion of the neighbors but are they really the suspicious ones?
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc
Wow. I enjoyed this book.
While I was a little confused at the beginning, this is book 13 of a series, I did enjoy it and it makes me want to go back and read the entire series.
Fans Will not want to miss the latest installment, newcomers like me should start at book one.
