Rizzoli & Isles: Listen to Me by Tess Gerritsen is the latest book in the wonderful thriller series that I have been awaiting for…and I loved it!

It has felt like forever since we were a part of Jane and Maura’s lives, so of course I had to read the 13th book in their series.

It was so wonderful to catch up with Maura, Jane, Angela, and the whole family. The dynamics within are a significant part of what keeps bringing me back for more.

I enjoyed the suspenseful, thrilling mystery plots…but I really came for the characters.

As always, I was entertained and cannot wait until the next one.

5/5 stars

Listen to Me is the 13th installment in the Rizzoli & Isles series by bestselling author Tess Gerritsen. In this novel, Jane Rizzoli, a homicide detective at Boston PD, and Moira Isles, a medical examiner, are involved in solving the brutal murder of Sofia Suarez, a widow and a popular nurse at a local hospital. On the surface there doesn’t seem to be any reason for the murder, and Jane has her work cut out for her. Jane’s mother, Angela, who fits the stereotype of an overbearing Italian mother, is having problems in her neighborhood, with some suspicious neighbors moving in, a major tiff with her best friend, a runaway teenager, and her boyfriend out of town, keeps calling Jane for help even though Jane is busy trying to solve the Suarez murder. It just so happens that a doctor who worked closely with Suarez is the father of a girl who was involved in an unsolved hit & run accident. Jane thinks there may be a connection and proceeds to find it.

Gerritsen knows how to make her characters seem real and weaves real-life events into the lives of her characters. Moira is a pianist who is practicing for a program put on by an amateur orchestra made up of doctors; Dr. Antrim is also a member. Moira doesn’t mention the program and Jane is puzzled as to why she wasn’t invited. Many things are happening in this novel as the main characters participate in believable happenings in their personal lives while at the same time pursuing a murderer.

Most thriller readers will enjoy Gerritsen’s expertise in telling a story, and while those who are familiar with this series will know the history of Jane and Moira, the novel can be read as a standalone novel for new readers. One thing that readers will notice about this novel that is a bit different than usual is the amount of humor, mostly brought on by Jane’s mother and readers’ ability to relate. It makes reading this excellent novel lots of fun and the story seems lighter than usual.

All told, this is a good novel and is definitely recommended for all thriller aficionados.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

"Listen to Me," by Tess Gerritsen is her 13th installment in the wildly popular Rizzoli and Isles series. My favorite sleuthing duo are back again to solve a particularly gruesome murder of a nurse. Jane Rizzoli, a Boston detective, and Maura Isles, the medical examiner, team up in this extremely satisfying mystery.

Called to the scene of the murder of fifty-two year old Sofia Suarez, they find her dead with her skull crushed and her laptop missing. Upon interviewing other nurses at the hospital and the ICU Director, everyone seems baffled by Sofia's violent death. Since Sofia has a squeaky clean background, Jane Rizzoli starts to wonder if perhaps she wasn't harboring a secret, but perhaps someone else was.

As Jane tries to solve Sofia's murdered, she is constantly peppered with phone calls from her mother, Angela. It seems there are many unexplained incidents occurring on her block. Her neighbor's daughter is missing, a new couple have moved in across the street and remain secluded behind a shuttered house and an ex Navy Seal has exhibited strange behavior. Despite Jane's warnings, Angela seems determined to snoop around to uncover what's really happening on her street.

Jane's investigation leads her to past events, that once pieced together, will lead to the shocking truth about Sofia's involvement in a patient's recovery from a hit and run accident. This murder, along with the questionable characters in Angela's neighborhood, lead to a very entertaining, clever and fast-paced book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for an advance copy in return for a honest review.

A great mystery/suspense with lots of twists and turn, and several story lines that kept the pages turning. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the author threw in another tidbit that had me second-guessing. The multi-layered characters drew me in and kept me engaged.

It was fun to see more of Angela’s point of view and get to know her better. Having watched the show, it was fun to hear Lorraine Bracco’s voice as I was reading. We don’t see a lot of Maura in this story, but the unfolding dynamics between Angela and Jane kept things moving along.

Full disclosure, I have not read the whole Rizzoli & Isles series. However, that didn’t interfere with my enjoyment of this book. I highly recommend this read.

I love this book. It is an excellent addition to this amazing series. Of course when I read it, I pictured the characters as they were in the TV show, which I also loved. I can't help myself. I really enjoyed Angela having such a big part in the story. Great, great book.

Detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles together again! What more could you ask for! This procedural series is by far one of the best around! There is so much going on in this book, and Jane’s mom, Angela is front and center. She has no idea exactly what she is in the middle of and what is about to transpire as she tries to be ‘a good neighbor’. However, that is not all that is going on in this book. Jane and her partner Barry Frost are working a case, or cases, of their own which are pretty intense, as well. This is a fun and action-packed read that will keep you turning the pages long into the night. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am ready for the next one. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy. In this installment, Rizzoli and Isles are working to determine who murdered a much beloved nurse. While they are working on this, Angela is concerned with things happening in the neighborhood. She determines that things aren't always what they seem.

This book has many different paths that cross, causing Jane and her team to criss cross and determine what goes together and what doesn't.

Five years is a long time to wait for a new book in a series, but it was worth it!

Det. Jane Rizzoli and her partner are investigating the brutal murder of a critical care nurse, but keep getting sidetracked by Jane’s mother’s concerns about suspicious activities by her neighbors and a missing teen girl. Clues lead them from Boston to Maine and a cold case murder at Colby College.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My first Tess Gerritsen in a while. I will say that I did enjoy this one as it was like being back with good friends, I will recommend this to fans of the series who have been eagerly awaiting this instalment. As always a pleasure to read and review. My thanks to the publisher for allowing me to read this early. Full of twists and turns that are fantastic.

There’s a fine line between a neighborhood watch and a nosy busybody, and Jane’s mom, Angie, has crossed that line. Now when she calls Jane or the police, no one wants to pay much attention to her complaints. That’s too bad because, although most of what is going on in the neighborhood is routine stuff, there are a few serious issues.

There are the new neighbors across the street from Angie and she just knows they’re up to no good. There’s the runaway, the neighbor that works out in front of the window for all the world to see and who isn’t quite what he makes himself out to be, and the former friend. And Angie finds herself in a bit of trouble.

Jane is dealing with the murder of a nurse, a hit and run, a stalking, and more.

I loved getting caught up in this story. It takes me back to watching the TV series, which I always enjoyed.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another fun installment. Lots of twists and turns as we follow Angela, Jane and the young Amy who was hit by a car and them seemingly stalked. There wasn't as much Maura and Jane interaction but overall I enjoyed it.

In this latest episode from Tess Gerritson, there are several things going on at once and all of them are compelling. Angela Rizzoli thinks her new neighbors are up to no good. Jane is investigating the murder of a much-loved nurse. Maura continues to be a conundrum - loving a priest is just one of her issues.

Angela takes a large front seat in this story and I have to admit, every time she is on the scene I hear Lorriane Brocco's voice in my head! Her parts of the book were my favorite.

The murder of the nurse has a great storyline - and even though I saw the ending coming very early, Gerritsen manages to keep it all fresh and exciting until the end.
Another winner for fans of the series ( which is very different from the tv show!0
Thanks, NetGalley for giving me a sneak peek.

This was a really great read, as just about all Tess Gerritsen books are. It was fun to get to see more of Angela's side of the story, though the big mystery in her sections was quite obvious, far more easy to figure out than Jane's case. There were a few things that really tipped me off in both storylines, but I didn't 100% solve Jane's ahead of time like I did Angela's. More than anything, at this point in such a long series, I am most interested in learning about the characters and their families or love lives, etc. This book definitely delivered on that front and I was really glad to finally get to see what was happening to everyone in the Rizzoli and Isles universe.

Overall, the mysteries were only so-so, but getting to the solutions was as fun as ever. I really hope we get to see more of these people in the future and it isn't five years until the next book in the series comes out!

Whatever the author writes, if it includes this duo, it’s bound to be a hit. After a bit of a hiatus the pair returns in an excellent tale that keeps the reader guessing and entertained.

Jane and Maura are back!! Yay!! I feel like I caught up with old friends when reading this book. I have always liked the Rizzoli and isles series I first started reading it and was so happy to see the author release a new book in the series. As for the story it was excellent!! There were definitely some twists and turns that I did not see coming and I didn't figure out the 'mystery' of the book until almost the end! The book is told from multiple viewpoints but not confusing at all and the characters are great as always. I had this book finished in almost one sitting I just had to see what happened next definitely a five-star book! Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this Arc!

I was so excited to see #13 in this series released! It's been too long since Maura and Jane have been together. Tess Gerritsen does it again. Definitely worth the wait for this next installment. Loved how Angela told her story (:and a great twist on the boy who cried wolf!). Cannot wait to recommend this one. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC. I am A huge fan of Tess Gerritsen and her series based on Jane and Maura. This latest edition didn't disappoint!

Be prepared for a lot of plot twists as Jane unravels her latest case when a nurse is brutally murdered in her home. I thoroughly enjoyed having each chapter told by different characters, especially when Angela was the lead voice. Just when you think you know what's going on, you don't!

This novel was well worth the wait!

At long last we have episode 13 in the Rizzoli and Isles series. While 4 years was long, the wait was rewarded. Jane Rizzoli and her partner Barry Frost initially are working the murder of ICU nurse Sofia Suarez. They were also later involved with with a possible stalker of Sofia Suarez’s boss’
daughter Amy who had been in the hospital under nurse Suarez’s care. As any connection is sought , the search becomes more complex yet interesting.
As a subtext, Jane’s mother Angela has become the de facto neighborhood watch for her block and sees suspicious activities at every turn with interesting results.
This is a fun and exciting read as are all the books in the series.

I would like to thank the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for for the advance copy for independent review.
