No Peaceful Release…
The newest and sixth outing in the Haunted Library series of mysteries finds Carrie thrown into another perplexing case when a body shows no apparent signs of leaving peacefully, a land dispute causes chaos and another murder occurs involving the local council. A colourful cast of characters, a fun and witty storyline and an entertaining narrative provide for another enjoyable read and a worthy addition to the series.

Carrie Singleton is looking forward to making some wedding plans and for the library expansion to be completed. Unfortunately a body is found in the basement of the hold home that is being covered to extend the library and this brings a new ghost and murder to the forefront. While Carrie only gets involved in a murder if it ties into her somehow, she finds that she will have to get involved since it’s the long lost uncle of her fiancé, Dylan.

Who killed Uncle Alec and why? Having been killed quite a while ago, Carrie’s going to have to do her best to use her ghostly friends to help solve this one. Hopefully she won’t become the next person to be killed in connection with this case.

Another great entry in the series. I really enjoy this series as it is a true cozy with the cutest cat and involves books…who doesn’t love books? Looking forward to more of Carrie’s wedding plans in future entries.

Allison Brook’s Dewey Decimated is a particularly weak cozy with a librarian setting.
As a librarian, I have a penchant for library-centered books. I also love cozy mysteries. Unfortunately, the writing in this book turned me off. From the very first page, I could tell something wasn’t right. We’re dropped into a conversation between Carrie, the protagonist—who has just finished solving another crime (this is the sixth in the Haunted Library mysteries)—and her aunt. Carrie is bemoaning the state of her relationship, upset that her boyfriend isn’t more forthcoming about his parents. I was interested—this might have the potential for a mystery or some drama—but Carrie’s aunt immediately tells Carrie relevant details about the parents. Then, in the next scene, Carrie talks to the boyfriend, who is immediately forthcoming about his parents.
Recommended for cozy die-hards looking for something to fill their next reading slot.

Bit by bit the story is revealed as pieces of the jigsaw fall into place. I liked the pace of this and the way the background was filled in as the story progressed. Well crafted story. Received as a complimentary copy from the author and netgalley in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book. It’s got great characters and is an interesting story. I was surprised by who the killer is. #DeweyDecimated #NetGalley

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Crooked Lane Books and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

I enjoyed this cozy mystery as much as I enjoyed the other in the series. My only issue with it was — and some will find it silly— Angela, Carrie’s best friend, buying a dog from a pet store rather than rescuing or going to a shelter. When Dylan brings up getting dogs he also brings up going to a breeder. Carrie suggests a shelter, he emphasizes how much work/training a shelter dog will need. That’s simply not a fact. All dogs need training and to be worked with, they’re not an exception. It’s an ignorant portrayal. I expect more in 2022.

The storyline itself was enjoyable, the characters are still likable and entertaining. I like the fact another * spoiler * ghost made an appearance. Especially since the ghost had a connection to a main character.

I enjoy this series and look forward to more.
