This story is told from several timelines in different points of view, which was confusing until it started to come together.
Moving on from tragedy was addressed realistically, and I appreciated the growth in the protagonist.
What a great read.
I was puzzled in the beginning how everyone slotted together in the book, but carried on regardless.
At about 70% in, everything went nuts and the story, in my opinion, really started.
The only small disappointment is that it took a while to develop, but once the action started, that made up for the wait.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
I enjoyed this book, which is about a woman whose husband disappears in the Bermuda Triangle and about her search for the truth about him. The plot was engaging -- and I completed the book in just a few days. There are some plot twists along the way as well, which made the book fun.
One pet peeve: I know the author is Canadian, but the fact she isn't American -- and not a New Yorker -- was obvious when she used the words "porridge" and "cupboards." No New Yorker refers to oatmeal as porridge or to kitchen cabinets as cupboards. Glaring mistake.
Other than that, I'd recommend this book to people seeking a fun, quick read.
I truly loved this book. Not only was I completely captivated by the story, making it so easy to fly through the pages effortlessly, but I was so intrigued by the multiple storylines, plots, and twists. There were a few times that what I thought for sure was going to happen didn’t, and what did happen completely threw me. The characters were very well developed. I appreciated young, naive, and eager Melanie; as much as I did mature, grieving, and hopeful Olivia. I do not know much about the Bermuda Triangle, and though I still don’t after reading this, I am still curious about it, but maybe more so. There was a lot to this book and I definitely recommend it. This is a new author for me and I am eager to read more by her.

What a story! I love when I start reading a book and have no idea where the story is taking me and I need to keep reading to figure it out. This story was just wonderful, loss, love, second chances and a bit of mystery, a perfect blend. I love Julianne’s writting and I was captivated since chapter one with this one. Loved it.

This was emotional and I was invested from the beginning! This went a different direction than I was expecting but was so well done. I loved the writing and the complex characters. This was really quite well done and I enjoyed my time with it.
Is June a plane crash mystery month or something I don't know about? Beyond the Moonlit Sea is the second eARC I've read with a lost plane at the centre of the narrative (see: The Gravity of Missing Things).
I may be in the minority here - the GoodReads rating is very high - but I found Olivia to be an insufferable perspective to read. To be fair, though, Dean and Melanie's perspectives were not much better. Olivia and Melanie are two sides of the same coin. A very unstable, slightly insane coin. I didn't mesh well with the writing style, and even though most of this narrative was entirely outlandish, it still managed to be incredibly predictable.
I would have loved to have seen Dean's childhood trauma explored further; it was addressed so quickly and then basically forgotten. Dean makes so many questionable choices, Beyond the Moonlit Sea would have been much more compelling if the motivation, or even the ability, to make these choices had been analysed. All of the characters felt very shallow, but this failure to examine Dean's past further, I believe, affected the narrative the most.
So much unexplored potential made Beyond the Moonlit Sea frustrating rather than engaging.
I liked the whole Bermuda Triangle angle of this book. The Bermuda Triangle has been an interesting, fascinating place that a lot of people want to know more about. This book starts at the present than goes back before Olivia and Dean met than goes forward in time. It was good to follow Olivia and all that she goes through during this time and how she met Dean. It did take a little for me to get through the whole book but I am glad that I read it.
Julianne MacLean is a must read author!
Beyond the Moonlit Sea, swept me away as we read how Olivia and Dean beautifully fall in love despite their differing class status. When tragedy strikes, my heart hurt for Olivia. If this was the only plot in the story it would have been good; however, when the author is able to pull the rug out under you and bring to life an entire other side of the story…that’s when a good book becomes Ahmazing!
This book will give you all the feels and the twist is one that you will not see coming! This is an epic contemporary love mystery story you need to add to your summer reading!
I really enjoyed this book.. It had all the components of a mystery that keeps you tuned in… the Bermuda Triangle, planes disappearing, accidental murder, ancestry dna drama and the reappearing of someone you thought perished long ago.
Highly recommend!

Beyond the Moonlit Sea is a beautiful romantic story like not many I've read. Full of emotion, wist, and turns.
Beyond the Moonlit Sea by Julianne MacLean was an interesting mystery with a couple of twists thrown in for good measure. The characters and the storyline twine around each other leading to questions and more questions. To me, a key element of the story is what lengths people go to - to gain or lose something.
Olivia Hamilton married Dean, a man she believed was the love of her life. The story follows the beginning of their relationship and how it came to be. Another character in the book was Melanie. She thought she was in love with her therapist and he thought he was in love with her until he met Olivia. The story meanders through Dean’s life as he finally comes to be there just for Olivia. And then one night flying back from dropping off a celebrity - he disappears and Olivia is distraught. It is not until years later that the intersection of Olivia and Melanie begin and then another character is added to the confusion.
I like how the book bounced between years and characters. I like how the book eventually continued the one character’s perspective as the storylines were removed. I really liked the conclusion as well. Beyond the Moonlit Sea by Julianne MacLean was a good read.
Olivia is happily married to and excited to start a family with her husband Dean when he goes missing piloting a plane over the Bermuda triangle. In the past, Melanie is a physicist studying the Bermuda Triangle who falls in love with her therapist. This book explores Dean's disappearance and how their lives are all intertwined.
I honestly just did not like this book at all. I have never read one of Julianne's MacLean's books before so I wasn't sure what to expect going in. From the beginning, I didn't like the writing style. There was too much telling and not enough showing. The characters were uninteresting to me and not very well fleshed-out. I thought I would be intrigued by the Bermuda Triangle mystery but it didn't hold my interest. There were a few surprises that I enjoyed during the book but overall it just wasn't my cup of tea.
I do appreciate the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
A beautiful and thoughtful novel about growing up and how our backgrounds influence our choices in life. Olivia had lived an affluent and sheltered life and had a happy outlook. Dean had a troubled past and was trying to dig himself out of the past but had no emotional support. What was and what could have been leave us wondering about choices made. I devoured this book in one day.
Highly recommended!
Beyond the Moonlit Sea is my first book by this author, but I’ll be looking forward to what she writes for us next! This was an incredible novel, full of twists and romantic suspense that asks the question: How well do you really know your husband? Although this premise—secrets and lies in a marriage—is a popular one in women’s fiction, this one is different in that there’s an intriguing interwoven mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. The author developed the characters so well that I felt like I knew them personally, even thinking about them when I wasn’t reading. I enjoyed how the chapters alternated between the characters, revealing their inner thoughts and feelings. This book would make an excellent movie. I read the book in less than two days and couldn’t put it down. I’ll be recommending this one to my friends, family, and colleagues. Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for granting me an ARC of this phenomenal read!
3.5 rounded up. I normally love Julianne MacLean books and most are 5 star, but this one just isn't it for me. I had a hard time staying focused as it gets bogged down with the mundane about midway and then suddenly starts moving again. I could not relate to the characters and didn't really like them very much after a while. One of them you start to like and is just a lovely person and then, oops, they are way out of what you thought they were, then the snob becomes steady as a rock. But I guess, without all that, there wouldn't be a story. Overall a good read, just didn't connect for me. Read the cover for book details, it gives adequate information, then decide for yourself and enjoy!
I was provided an advanced reader copy at my request but was under no obligation to provide a review. The opinions stated are my own. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read the book.
The Bermuda Triangle: Scary or Fascinating? Little bit of both? I think regardless of science or urban legend, I’ll probably not be flying over anytime soon!
What a premise - a plane that goes missing in this strange and mysterious part of the ocean and Olivia is devastated to have lost the love of her life. In another place and time, Melanie spends her time studying this fascinating mythical region - until her mother dies and she turns to therapy to help her get back on track. When her and her therapist begin a forbidden love affair, the pages could not turn fast enough for me.
What will happen if they are found out? Will Olivia give up hope of ever finding out what happened to Dean? How will these two women's lives intersect?
It’s one of those stories where you’re inevitably going to deep-dive down a rabbit-hole on Google to learn about the mysterious occurrences and disappearances that have happened at the Bermuda Triangle. It’s also one of those reads where the mystery may seem clear, but tiny interwoven paths lead to a shocking discovery that is full of suspenseful emotions - all culminating in a lovely, but unexpected ending that will solidify a place in heart for every single character.
I just adore Julianne MacLean's stories and this one was no exception.

This was a page-turning family drama/mystery that I couldn't put down. The Bermuda Triangle is a fascinating centerpiece to this story and cause for a Google deep dive down a rabbit hole to learn more about the strange happenings there. I love Julianne's writing style and the depth she brings to her characters. It's an emotional investment that is worth every moment spent reading the book and you'll be thinking of them for a long time after the book is finished.
