Julianne MacLean is fast becoming a favourite author of mine. I truly enjoyed Beyond the Moonlit Sea and once started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. It is just the kind of book I like. With mystery, suspense, romance, likable characters, tricky situations and choices that can turn your world upside down as well as those closest to you.
This dual timeline takes place in 1986 with Melanie. She is a clever but troubled student studying particle physics mainly concerning the Bermuda Triangle. Losing interest in her studies, it’s recommended that she begins seeing a therapist.
In 1990 we meet Olivia and learn of her relationship with her husband Dean, a pilot who disappears over the Bermuda Triangle.
At a certain point the years blend together and bring us closer to the present as well as learning about what and how the two women’s lives converge.
A great read that I can wholeheartedly recommend with 5 stars.

Olivia has a fairytale marriage to Dean, and they're planning to start a family when Dean, a private pilot, disappears over the Bermuda Triangle during a flight home.
Melanie is working on her dissertation about planes disappearing into thin air over the Bermuda Triangle, all while seeing a therapist for general ennui in her life, looking for her purpose. She then falls in love with her therapist, who resists her come-ons. At first.
How the two become intertwined, and how their stories progress, kept me turning pages. The ending, while a tad predictable, allowed for a clean-cut end to the tale of two women whose lives were forever impacted by the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle.
A quick read with twists and romance, it's definitely worth checking out.
I enjoyed this book for many reasons which include the character development throughout the story, the storyline itself was interesting, and the twists throughout the book kept me interested. The book felt a little drawn out at time for me, however it did have a nice flow and came full circle at the end. I would recommend this book to others. Thanks NetGalley for the read!
I was fascinated by this story. The switching between characters and timelines was a bit confusing at times but it all comes together in the end. A study of self, relationships, trust, attraction, communication and what happens when things go wrong. It was a very enjoyable read.
(I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.)
Olivia walked away from her family's wealth to marry Dean, who was a counselor, but longed to be a pilot.
They were just starting to plan for a family when Dean's plane disappears over the Bermuda Triangle. Olivia becomes obsessed with trying to determine his fate: Is he still alive? Did this infamous area pull down his plane? As time goes on, Olivia moves on with a former love, a kind man who loves her to pieces.
Melanie, another young woman started an affair while studying and writing about the Bermuda Triangle.
As the years pass, the two women's lives intertwine, and Olivia has to face the past to fully embrace the present.
This was a great read that kept me wondering what path it was taking as I read. I love a book that can intertwine characters' lives, past and present, and give us different perspectives. I highly recommend #BeyondtheMoonlitSea.

This is a suspenseful, yet tender, mystery. It is one terrific book!
A young pilot, Dean, disappears in the Bermuda triangle one night.
There is no body or plane recovered, or hint that he is alive anywhere. How can you just become invisible?
His wife, Olivia, searches and attempts to learn anything she can regarding the Bermuda triangle throughout the years with no word on her husband or findings to confirm he is alive or dead.
Olivia finally moves forward and remarries, with the help of her family and friends.
Yet, the mystery of her first husband always remains in the back of her mind.
Until.... one day when a knock on the door opens up some interesting new information that is unbelievable, but is it true?
Thus- the real suspense begins!
The chapters of the novel alternate between 1986 and 2012 giving the reader insight into the young lives of the characters in this well written, detailed novel.
I truly could not stop reading this book. It is excellent!
This was my first Julianne MacLean book and it definitely won’t be my last! Olivia Hamilton is happily married until her husband Dean who is a pilot, disappears over the Bermuda Triangle on a flight home. Olivia searches for answers while trying to rebuild her life again. Melanie Brown is a physicist studying the Bermuda Triangle who falls in love with her therapist. This sets into motion a series of events that intertwines Olivia and Melanie’s lives, causing Olivia to question everything she knows.

This was a quick, but wonderful story! It took me a minute to figure out the different story lines, but it all came together perfectly.
Another great one from Julianne Maclean! I loved A Fire Sparkling and These Tangled Vines, so I was very happy to get this ARC of Beyond the Moonlit Sea. The story goes back and forth in time from 1986 to 2017 and is told in alternating points of view of the main characters - Olivia, Dean, and Melanie. The book begins with Olivia’s husband Dean’s flight disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle. Dean is a private charter pilot and was returning from the Caribbean. Melanie is a graduate student working on her dissertation about the Bermuda Triangle. The way her life intersects with Olivia and Dean is fascinating. I don’t want to include any spoilers, so I will just say that I loved this book and I finished it in two days because I didn’t want to put it down. I can’t wait for Julianne MacLean’s next book! Thanks to #netgalley #juliannemaclean, and #lakeunionpublishing for this Arc in exchange for an honest review.
Beyond the Moonlit Sea draws readers into the intimate lives of four main characters, three that know about each other and one wild card who’s life will dramatically impact the others. What seems to be a straightforward progression of girl meets boy and they fall in love will surprise readers as the various threads are brought together in a surprising way. Julianne MacLean never disappoints readers. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.
This was a fantastic read! There are dual timelines that follow a few characters, which greatly helps understand where they are in the current part of the story.
I've long been fascinated with The Bermuda Triangle and Julianne's research into the Bermuda Triangle shines through very clearly in this novel. I learned some things I wasn't aware of and due to her notes in the back, have some things to research.
I love books where I learn new things! The characters are so real that I felt like they could step out of the book and chat. The journeys they went on were very interesting and I couldn't wait to find out what happened!
Be sure to pick this one up ~ you'll be so glad you did!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for granting an ARC at my request. All thoughts are my own.
Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of Beyond the Moonlit Sea by Julianne MacLean. I love this author. In fact I think that I have read every one of her contemporaries. She. never disappoints. This one was no different. This book was surprising and I really liked it.
Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the eARC.
This was a really good book, I really liked it!
It takes place in Miami and New York between 1986
and 2012 and the main characters are Olivia, Melanie and Dean. When Dean, a pilot, takes a passenger to St. Thomas, his plane disappears on his return trip. Olivia, his wife, is heartbroken as the media talks about the Bermuda Triangle when his plane isn't found, nor his body. I found the chapters concerning the mystery of the Triangle fascinating.
We also learn about Melanie, who falls in love with her therapist, which makes for some cringe worthy
reading...
It's a love story, a mystery and has a great ending.
This was my first book by the author and I'm definitely going to read more of her books!
Beyond the Moonlit Sea is Julianne MacLean's best work to date!
And I must say this cover is absolutely beautiful!
I freaking loved this wonderful book.
I felt so many emotions while reading it this beautiful story
At times it caused me to stop reading and say "Oh WoW" and other times, I was completely speechless.
I cared so deeply about these characters, what happened to them and was involved in their story.
This was so very well done and so very much enjoyed!
With a cast of unforgettable characters.
As you begin reading this book, prepare to be swept away...
