The Falcon continues the story of FBI agent Nina Guerrera, along with her fellow agents in a special task force composed of multiple different FBI disciplines such as Cyber and Violent Crime. Although it's a series, I do consider these stand alone novels. It'll definitely make more sense if you've read the previous books, but if you haven't, you could still start here and not be completely lost in the events of the story.
I don't want to spoil anything so I won't go into any plot details here, but this is another fast paced procedural with Guerrara and company attempting to profile and identify a serial abductor of young women from a Phoenix university. I've always seen the strengths of this series as the authenticity of the investigations combined with the evolution of Guerrera's character, and both points are on target here. It's especially interesting seeing how Guerrera continues to build trust and relationships with not only her FBI family, but her long lost relatives as well.. It was great to also get some backstory on Bianca and how she and Nina became so close - it helped me to understand their choices in this book much better.
This series continues to impress. A great story, interesting characters, and a satisfying conclusion make this a winner. Looking forward to more!
Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of this thriller!
Wow wow wow! Not only was this book an incredible crime fiction, police procedural, FBA thriller, this was a work written by a woman whose lived the life! A Latina author, a criminal fighter and justice bringer, and wow this book reflected it! Nina is grounded and relatable, flawed and vulnerable, and the characters and settings come to life right off the page. As a behavior analyst myself, I was also impressed with the level of detail and accuracy that Maldonado brought to the narrative. Incredible!
this was a gruesome police procedural. In some ways I was reminded of the Kay Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell. I had not read the first 2 in the series, but it didn't seem to matter plot wise, you pick up some mentions of the previous cases and relationships, but nothing that stands in the way. A solid 4 star read.
The Falcon is book three in the Nina Guerra series. Warrior girl is back as the FBI is investigating a series of missing coeds at the same university. All have disappeared from campus with no evidence. Now the FBI, campus police, and the Phoenix PD are in a race to find the girls in a twisted case where the whodunnit is unpredictable and hits a little close to home for Nina. With a tough as nails survivor as the main protagonist, Nina’s novels are action packed, thrillers that leave readers addicted and wanting more! Nina is one of my favorite characters in the fictional world! My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.
This book was issued to me by NetGalley for my unbiased review.
This is the second Nina Guerrera book I have reviewed. This was another smash from Isabella Maldonado! Nina and the team are in another tough situation that requires all their individual talents. A good read and the characters continue to develop as the series goes on.
Looking forward to the next one!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of The Falcon, the third novel to feature FBI Agent Nina Guerrera.
Nina and the team are in Phoenix investigating the disappearance of six undergraduates, who have gone missing over the last couple of months. The investigation takes a turn when their perfectly preserved bodies are found and it becomes the hunt for a wily murderer.
I enjoyed The Falcon, which is a plot driven novel with an unusual perpetrator. I have not read the previous two novels in the series, so have no knowledge of the team or their history. I am happy to say that this one works well as a stand-alone with all the salient points explained (it might get repetitive if the reader read all three novels back to back).
The narrative is split between Nina and the unnamed perpetrator. She and her team move the narrative forward with their discoveries and theorising, the perpetrator explains his modus operandi and motivation in amongst the usual self pitying drivel that is fairly standard for this type of novel. Having said that, his M.O. is unusual and interesting, so I like the the thinking behind it.
The plot is the main focus of this novel with a well disguised, clever perpetrator stymying them at every turn. There are a few unexpected diversions along the way, but generally it follows the plan of gradually reducing the pool of suspects and circling in on his area of operation. The one big surprise is identity. The team didn’t guess, so I don’t imagine many readers will.
The characterisation isn’t particularly developed. There are a few brief nods to trauma with Nina being a survivor of a serial predator, but it’s hardly an in depth study. It doesn’t have to be as the characters are mainly there to support the plot.
The Falcon is a good read that I can recommend.
Another 5 star read for me by Isabella Maldonado!
If you love thrilling, police procedurals centering around FBI investigations, behavioral analyst, serial killers, puzzles and strong female leads - you will love this series!
This is Book #3 in the Detective Nina Guerrera series and I just love it so much! I love when the whole crew is together and Nina had some amazing character development in this one. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here!
I COULD NOT put this down!! It was even better than I'd hoped it would be. This series is the best "police procedural" I have read! I love the attention to detail Maldonado gives the agents and cases. Reading this It's like watching an expertly done crime show.
Thank you Isabella Maldonado, athonas & Mercer and Netgalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is due for publication June 28th and I cannot recommend this series enough.

What an incredible ride this book was. The Falcon by I. Maldonado, published by Thomas & Mercer, is book three in the Nina Guerrera Series.
Nina, a special agent with the BAU and the FBI is tasked with a case of Disappearances at an University.
She faces her gratest failure and fear to stop a hunter.
This is a winner when I ever saw one. I fell in ista-love with storyline and characters. I read the book, sitting on the edge of my seat. I couldn't read fast enough to see whatr happened next. An intense read, twisty, complex and unique.
I recommend this book, 5 stars.
5 young women get kidnapped in a short span without a trace from an elite university. Special Agent Nina Guerrera and her FBI team reach in to investigate only to find the most bizarre case of their career.
It starts with tampered cctv footage but no ransom calls. There is lack of solid motive and the FBI cannot find any relation between the women except that all were beautiful.
Nina, FBI professionally yet struggling in her family life. Still on the run to find about her biological family encounters Bianca, a strong woman and her new neighbour coming to the city in search universities. Nina instantly takes upon herself to protect Bianca.
Time is of the essence here as more girls keep disappearing in the same matter. The entire city is shaken and FBI seems to be at a dead end with no evidence. However, soon things start to make sense and what’s about to be discovered is beyond the team’s imagination.
Each character has their own depth and granular roles to play. The book can be read as a standalone even after being #3 of the Nina series. Some characters were no well introduced but that might be due to series continuation.
There are some strong triggers throughout the book as the abductors PoV is also touched up to giving us the backstory and description of how the kidnappings took place.
The plot is full of shocking elements and small twists that came unexpected. Fast paced from the get go thus causing it hard to predict the criminal. Also, might seem a little unrealistic due to the pace but yet it’s gripping.
Will Nina solve the case before more girls go missing or will it be too late?
Thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for an eARC to review! The Falcon is the third in the Nina Guerrera series by Isabella Maldonado. It will be published on June 28th, 2022. Having devoured the first two in the series on Kindle Unlimited, I was beyond excited to be approved for an ARC copy of The Falcon! Now, on to the review!
Nina Guerrera is an FBI agent in a team that is very similar to the BAU in other police procedurals. Having survived captivity by a serial killer as a teenager, she has a unique perspective to offer as a part of her team. In The Falcon, five young women have gone missing on the campus of an elite tech university in Arizona. Because of the setting, we get to revisit Nina's newfound family and acquaintances from the last novel. I loved seeing Teresa and her family again! This book had so many great elements. The killer was intriguing and had a full backstory. There was misdirection up to the very end, and I did not guess the final reveal! There were definitely emotional moments when the killer kidnaps someone close to Nina. We also get to see some character development from Nina throughout. As always, I loved all the supporting characters (Breck, Kent, Buxton, Mrs. Gomez, etc). I can't wait to read more about Nina! If this series had a million books, I would read them all. There's no doubt about it!
This was a fast paced thriller. It had a gripping storyline and kept me interested from start to finish. Looking forward to reading more in the series
Exhilarating and fast-paced! This was a great installment for the series, and it stands well when put together with the other two. Enjoyed the twists and turns. It was impossible to put down!
This is the third book in the Nina Guerrera series but it is the first book I’ve read from the author and the series. Wow. It’s complex, detailed, well developed, with an interesting plot, has strong female characters. If you are interested in behavioral analysis, give this series a try.
Looking forward to more books from this author.
An excellent entry in a very good series. I never guessed the identity of the antagonist despite clues that were provided. I thought the book dragged a little bit after the climax but it did tie the story up in a good fashion. I like the characters in this series and would read future books in this series and intend to try the other series this author has written.
This book was great, the characters were well developed. The plot was interesting. Highly recommend it.
“The Falcon” is the third in a series, although I read it as a stand alone (and I promise to read “The Cipher,” the first in the series that’s been on my Kindle for awhile very soon now). For any fan of police procedurals or FBI investigations, this story’s structure is familiar. Six women have gone missing and there a lot of cooks in the law enforcement kitchen — the FBI, the campus police, the Phoenix Police Department, family lawyers, a local psychic, and the school’s IT department — trying to figure who has authority to do what and who can solve the kidnappings before there are more.
Falcon is the 3rd book in the Nina Guerrero series and I believe that there will be at least one other book which follows this one. This book follows Nina who's an agent with the FBI. Following on from the last book Nina is building a relationship with her biological family including an auntie who's a lot like Mrs G and we see the first meeting of Nina and Bianca 5 years previously.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Falcon was the third in a series that follows FBI agent Nina Guerrera. I haven't read the first two, but thankfully that it is not super relevant to this book! There are some things I obviously did not follow along with, but they were not the crux of the plot of this book.
Nina and her team are in Phoenix to investigate the disappearance of coeds from a college campus. They are trying to figure it out, when Nina's close friend gets kidnapped. Nina and her team must find her before she becomes the killer's next victim.
I felt like the first half of this book was a little slow. However, once the pivotal kidnapping happens, I didn't want to put it down. I was a little let down by the whodunit - I didn't feel like there were a ton of clues to point to that person. But despite that, still a solid thriller.
I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I have fallen in love with the Nina Guerrera Series that Maldonado has created. This is the third in the series and they keep on getting better. In each book, you find out more and more about Nina and how her mind works to solve the cases that she and her unit have been assigned to. Maldonado writing is face paced, adventurous, suspenseful and keeps you guessing who the unsub is in the novel. Six female undergrads at the university are missing and the FBI has been asked to step in and help by the campus police. This case is especially important to Nina because a young friend is visiting the university and could be in danger while she is there. Some boys out biking find a cave and inside are the bodies of five of the missing girls, they have been preserved and the bodies show no sign of violence and no hint on how they died. Nina is hoping to solve this case before another girl can go missing.
The Falcon is Nina Guerrera book #3. I loved this one...it was creepy, the killer was well developed and the story was perfectly paced.
I love how these books are heavy on the profiling...it's very much like Criminal Minds and I think it's fascinating. I also liked how there is a tiny bit of hint at something between Guerrera and Kent. I hope there is more and I can't wait for the next book. This was a great find from Amazon first reads a while ago.
Another 5 stars to my favorite character and favorite author….
Now while this novel seemed shorter than the previous 2…. Maybe it’s my imagination but I flew through it…. Only work stopped me from reading it in one sitting.
Absolutely loved Nina and the gang… but more than that the way Nina is developing as a character had me in tears by the end of the book with one scene almost making me through my kindle across the room.
Seriously highly recommend this series and am looking forward to reading more of Nina.
Now am off to reread the series from the beginning.
