I enjoy this series of books by Lee Goldberg. There is something about Eve and her battles against a faulted system. While the system wants to hide the facts in these cases, Eve and Duncan want to expose what’s been happening on the park land.

I didn’t realize this book was #4 in the series! Despite that, it was amazing. Engaging storytelling, fans of old Hollywood glamour or cop shows will love this book.

First and foremost, I love this series. I honestly feel like this may be the best book so far. I really enjoy Eve, and how her experiences are shaping her actions and overall growth. Her partnership with Duncan is a bright spot in the book, evolving as well. The action is continuous, the pacing and writing just perfect. I liked the cast of other characters surrounding Eve and Duncan. The continuation (resolution?) of Eve’s mistreatment by the department connects this to all the previous books, but this investigation is all new and engrossing.

Another good story that will keep going with who did it from the first page to the last. We are back with Eve Ronin and her partner Duncan Pavone. The story opens with a slow call about a break in but Duncan is just giving the man at the business the run around while Eve of course is going for the full throttle. When they receive a call at the Malibu State Park and once there it is different jurisdictions trying to take over, mainly the park service does not want the Sheirff dep in the park, yet when bodies are found the park service has to give it to the sheriff dep. Sounds like regular government BS. So the park is dealing with fire and there is much to investigate whether it is from that or newer, then you still have Eve dealing with the lawsuit from the last book, and also the t.v show, then you put in Duncan with his pending retirement and of course, there is her father and let us not forget her mother. She still is dealing with part of the department that still has her, so you see there is a lot going on. The author does a wonderful job keeping everything going and together and you have once again a very good story. Again the characters are good and i liked everything about the book, very much worth the read.

I picked this #netgalleyarc because I had just returned from a trip to #losangeles. I like that #leegoldberg included so many specific sites in the #malibucreekstatepark area. I have never read any of his books before and it was a good read, but #policemysteryseries are not my favorite genre. I believe that this was published last year and if you like this type of series check out the previous books in the #everoninseries. 📚📚📚 #netgalleyreads #netgalley #netgalleyreview #netgalleyreviewer #netgalleyreader #booksbooksbooks #bookstagram

I loved the characters and the wit. The plot was surprising and invigorating.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Here we go again with another Eve Ronin adventure in the Hollywood Hills.

We've got Eve, recovering from injuries that would kill most people and still holding on to the title of the most hated detective in the Sheriff's Department. Even more hated than the rapists! This time, there's a sniper with a shotgun on the loose and the department needs to get things cleaned up before more people die.

This book was fast-paced and held my interest, but the multiple threads could be hard to follow (how many different shooters are there?).

Ultimately, I love the adventures and most of the characters, but Eve could use some work. She's got a great detective brain, but she's just unlikable and impulsive and doesn't do herself any favors. Love me some Duncan, though. But seriously, can we please clean out the insane level of corruption in the Department? I'm horrified that it has gone on for 4 books so far.

Also, I absolutely love the cover art on this series!

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

“Karma,” Duncan said, “will always piss on your new shoes.”

I haven't read the other ones in the series, but the beginning easily caught me up and I didn't feel like I was missing anything! I liked the two detectives. I found the mystery interesting and the corruption well done. I like that this story didn't hold back and the twists kept going. I wasn't completely pulled in but I was entertained.

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

What did I just read!?!? An exciting, on the edge of seat thriller. Normally not of fan of police thrillers; but, I'm trying to expand on the types of books I read. Starting off slow, the story picks, grabs you, and take a ride you won't forget. The book is full of suspects and the investigation is intense. The characters are fascinating and the story was unique and different. I understand that this is part of a series. I will be going back, to check out the previous books.

More Eve Ronin Please!!!!

These books are a little gritty and have a capable female protagonist.
I also love her partner. He always protects her while adding some comic relief.

I hope this is not the end of the series. Would love to read more.

Eve Ronin and Duncan Pavone are back, with Duncan counting down the final days to his retirement Eve and Duncan are called out to investigate a murder of a female camper in Malibu State Park. Duncan fears it's the latest in a string of shootings by a sniper who has been taking potshots at people in the park, a case which he feels has never been adequately investigated.

With Eve still in the crosshairs of the Great Whites and higher ups ordering Eve and Duncan to stand down on the idea of a serial sniper, Eve knows she can't let go of the case and won't back down from bringing the killer to justice.

Lee Goldberg's world-building is always solid, the storylines are quick paced with biting dialogue and plenty of action, and Eve and Duncan are strong characters. I've enjoyed every entry of this series and plan to continue to read it as long as it keeps being published; 4 stars instead of 5 for this one as a few components of the storyline have become a bit repetitive. On the plus side, it felt as though some aspects of the more repetitive storylines may have been resolved, so I'm hopeful that the next entry in the series will further progress the storyline.

Another fantastic installment in the Eve Ronin series. Goldberg's experience as a TV writer shines through here. His prose is tight and descriptive, and the dialog shines. The research he's done is also impressive, both in terms of police procedure, but also in terms of local politics. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Eve Ronin is at it again. This time she and her partner, Duncan, must investigate a shotgun murder which took part in a very public state park. As the case unfolds, the group must determine if a serial murderer is behind all of the chaos, and find the killer quickly before politics and the media get too involved.

This is the fourth book in the Eve Ronin series and Lee Goldberg is hitting his stride. His descriptions of Malibu Creek State Park and the surrounding area is visually moving and as always gives the reader a very clear picture of where Eve and Duncan are solving these murders. The character of Eve is as stubborn as ever and ready once again to make a few enemies within her co workers in order to seek justice for the victims and uncover all of the unsavory behavior within her own police squadron.

Overall, this is a winning novel. I would suggest starting the series at the begin for those who are new to Eve's story, but for the those who enjoy a good police procedural on tv, these novels are for you!

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for an opportunity to review this novel.

Movieland is a terrific book in the Eve Ronin series. Eve is such a wonderful character with a great attitude that makes her fascinating to read. Duncan is fun to read as well. This installment is a solid story that was hard to put down. The plot moves along at a good pace and kept me riveted, which is the best I can ask for! Highly recommended.

Rating: 4/5 Stars

I will forever be a fan of Lee Goldberg’s Eve Ronin books! They never fail to excite.

Movieland finds us back with Even Ronin and Duncan Pavone and the Lost Hills police department. This time they are investigating a serial shooter in Malibu State Park. But as the facts of the case shape up - they’ll quickly learn nothing is as clear as it appears to be.

Being a previous resident of Calabasas myself, I always love the attention to detail Goldberg gives to his stories. I feel my old neighborhood come back to life. With that being said, I did feel like this installment of Eve’s story was a little less meaty than his previous ones and was really hoping for more development into Eve’s continuing backstory.

Either way - I can’t wait for the next. Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

American author Lee Goldberg returns with his fourth Eve Ronin novel, which he loosely bases on chilling series of real-life killings that took place in Malibu, California in 2018. Research scientist Tristan Beaudette was shot dead while camping in Malibu Creek State Park with his two young daughters, the latest in a series of shootings in the preceding year. Someone was arrested, but there are still doubts over who it was that actually terrified residents of the area, with many questions left unanswered.

Goldberg’s rendition begins with detectives Eve Ronin and Duncan ‘Donuts’ Pavone investigating an office break-in when they receive the call that a woman has been shot and seriously injured in the nearby Malibu Creek State Park. Zena Faust, an activist blogger for the Malibu Beat, was swimming at a pond with her girlfriend, Kim Spivey, when they were attacked. Zena survived, Kim didn’t.

Movieland is Lee Goldberg’s fourth book in the Eve Ronin series. This time homicide detective Eve and her soon-to-be retired partner Duncan Pavone are investigating a series of mysterious shootings that have occurred in and around a state park near Los Angeles. Duncan is convinced it’s the work of a serial sniper, even though the local politicians and law enforcement officials don’t agree (if this sounds like the theme in the movie “Jaws” you’d be right). As they weave their way around this conundrum, Eve and Duncan clash with environmental leaders, fellow police officers, land developers, and even some of the rich and famous that live in the area.

Lee Goldberg has developed an entertaining series, with good plots, some witty dialogue and a good cast of characters. Duncan is definitely my favorite, while it seems like it’s time for Eve to grow up, start following the rules, and quit being a rogue detective who endangers herself and those around her.

There are several things that diminished my enjoyment of this latest book. In my opinion, there are too many descriptions of the layout of the streets, which direction they run, and how the characters get from point A to point B. The author is laying out too much of a road map and it’s probably most enjoyable for someone who is familiar with the area.

There are also references to events in prior books. I realize this is a series and there will be overlap and history that will be mentioned to give context to the current book. I usually very much appreciate these references. However, in this case, they seem to be too vague to really be useful and might potentially cause confusion for readers if they aren’t familiar with the previous books. Even though I have read all the Eve Ronin books I found this to be distracting and confusing at times.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

This is the fourth book in a series, however having not read the previous books I believe that is can be read as a stand-alone. There are a few plot items that tied back to the previous books, but they were made clear as the book moved on and I don’t think I missed anything.

I thought this book was a good mystery thriller. Not my usual genre, but enjoyable.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for a copy of this book. This is my honest voluntary review.

I love this series. Eve & Dunkin make the best unlikely duo that get the job done. The plot was interesting and kept you captivated all the way through. This has some really good twists to keep you engaged & guessing. As usual the cast of characters is amazing. Can't wait for the next one!

previous books, but each story stands alone. The story unfolds in Ronin’s first–person narrative, and she shares any details from her past that new readers might need. This book is an opportunity for readers to spend time with Ronin; she drives the plot. The story is not about the end, the story is about the trip with Ronin.
Ronin loves her job as a detective in the Lost Hills Sherriff’s Department robbery-homicide division. She is from a “show biz” family, and a TV pilot based on one of her “high profile” case is now in development. Her personal life is a mess, and she struggles to control the chaos in her job and the contingent of other deputies at Lost Hills who hate her. Her life is so much more complicated than any reality TV show could possibly be.
Malibu Creek State Park, twelve square miles of mountains, canyons, and grassland, is a former “natural backlot” site for film and TV, but it is now the location of a homicide. Previous reports of random “shots fired” in the park had been ignored, branded as just random shotgun shooting. But not this time; now there is a murder. The public is panicked; politicians are furious, and the press is having a feeding frenzy. Concrete evidence is sparse, the suspects are many, and the investigation is complicated by outside influences and departmental conflicts.
Ronin goes the distance in the story. She controls the chaos, overcomes departmental battles, and does not let the killer get away with murder. I received a review copy of “Movieland” from Lee Goldberg and Thomas & Mercer Publishing. This is a great series, and perhaps in the next book Ronin will find Jimmy Hoffa’s body.
“Movieland” is now available in print, as an e-book, and on audio from independent bookstores, online booksellers, retail stores, public libraries and anywhere you get your books.
