I really love this series and what a great plot Movieland has! We have break-ins, shootings, car crashes, bribes, and firebombs, not to mention a few laugh-out-loud dialogs!! Eve is tenacious and oh so young. Duncan is her side-kick who is about to retire. They both race to keep the public safe, while the brass just wants a cover-up. It was interesting reading the author's notes at the back of the book and finding out which parts of the book have their roots in reality.

I absolutely recommend Movieland and I can't wait for the 5th book in the series!!!

Movieland is the fourth in the Eve Ronin Series, set in the dry fire ravaged hills of Calabasas, which includes Malibu Creek State Park. The park was once a studio back lot, thus the name. There are references to many past events so that this could be read as a standalone. Having read all in this series, I recommend the previous because they are worth reading.
Captain Dubois, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, sends Detective Eve and her partner, Duncan, to the scene of a shooting. This will be just the beginning of a complicated case involving a serial sniper using a shotgun with bird shot.
Duncan is days away from retirement and fears Eve will get him hurt or in trouble before then. Eve has attitude sometimes and there are still deputies who resent her. The Great Whites (secret group of dissident Lost Hills station deputies) haven't been purged and are still a threat.
Eve's previous case notoriety has netted a new TV series and a large lawsuit against her. She's dealing with dysfunctional showbiz parents, an attorney and an agent, and a new relationship with Daniel. The only constant is her sister, Lisa, a nurse. Duncan is the only one who has her back. She's very young for her rank in a male dominated field.
The crimes and sniper shootings don't let up. There's break-ins, burglaries, car crashes, bribes, and a firebomb. Everytime you think you know who the serial sniper is, you'll be thrown a new twist or clue. The tangled suspect list has everyone from a naked activist, homeless man, to a city counsel member. Before the pieces come together the FBI and a safe house are involved.
The setting and many characters are interesting and well portrayed. There is suspense, drama, and people I wanted to read more about, couldn't wait for Eve to nab the killer. This is a great addition to the series, can't wait for the next one!

This was a really good book, it's the fourth in the series, though if you have not read the previous, I think you'll be able to read this as a stand alone. Eve and her partner Duncan "Donuts' are called to the scene of a murder in Malibu Creek State Park, a woman and her partner have been shot, the partner did not survive and the other woman was seriously injured. At first there is a lot of resistance from park rangers to allow them to investigate, they want the crime scene gone in 24 hours. As they investigate they realize this is not the first shooting in the park and not long after that another one occurs, a man who's on the council of the local city. Because he's a high profile individual, there is now pressure on Eve and Duncan to solve the murders. Eve is also in the midst of a television series being produced based on her, some years previously she had taken down a man who was assaulting a woman, during the takedown several bystanders recorded and posted video of her takedown, the man she took down played a tough guy on a TV series and since Eve is on the smaller side the video went viral and she became an overnight sensation, resulting in her being promoted to detective and partnered with Duncan. There is a lot going on in this book but the author tells a very good story and I would highly recommend this and the earlier in the series. The author also has another series, Ian Ludlow is the main character, which I would also recommend. Thank you to #Netgalley and #Thomas & Mercer for the ARC.

This is book #4 in the Eve Ronin series. To be honest, before I started reading this book, I purchased the first book in the series called Lost Hills on audible.com. I wanted to read it first so I could comment on whether I thought you need to read them in order or not. I really think you could read this and still get the gist.

I really enjoyed this book a lot, and will go get # 2 and 3 from the series as well.

Eve Ronin is a young detective who has been promoted to the homicide division of the LASD (Los Angeles Sheriff Dept) and partnered with Duncan Psvone who is days/weeks away from retirement.

There are murders that need to be solved, but it’s with a bit of humor (Evanovich vibes).

Eve Ronin is back in the fourth installment of Lee Goldberg's detective series. Eve, a young and tenacious detective, received a promotion based on a viral video and is still trying to show that she is deserving of the assignment. Duncan is her partner and is soon to be retiring. They work out of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in Calabasas and are investigating shootings occurring in the Malibu Creek State Park. There is humor and some twists as we follow the pair in their search for the truth and solving the crime. Most of the characters are all familiar and entertaining. I enjoyed the storyline and return to the series! It is an entertaining read, and I look forward to more books in this series! Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for the ARC!

Eve Ronin the LA Sheriff’s Department Detective for the Lost Hills Station in the city of Calabasas, California is back. That is good news for any mystery reader, as author Lee Goldberg delivers another winner with this novel.

Ronin is still paired with her about to retire partner Duncan “Donuts” Pavone when a blogger and a friend are shot in a state park. Slowly unveiled is the evidence that this event is part of a string that has been carefully covered up by authorities.

Adding tension to the plot is that Ronin still works with officers who are part of a brotherhood who are out to bring her down.

This mystery is equally a police procedural and whodunnit that keeps the reader guessing. Add to these Goldberg had this reader laughing out loud at times, making Movieland another satisfying read in this series.

Though I recommend reading these books in order, the author is a master at tying in continuing elements from previous novels to keep the reader up to do date on the story arc of this series.

I have not read a book by Lee Goldberg that I have not enjoyed, and Movieland, in the Eve Ronin series is no exception. It is another great and satisfying read that makes me ready for the next installment.

A great addition to this series.

Someone has been shooting at people in the Malibu Creek State Park area for a long time, but the whole thing is being swept under the rug as Park officials don't want citizens to be scared and stop bringing profits for the Park. Duncan, Eve Ronin’s partner, once conducted an investigation. Now that the last few days are left before his end of service and retirement, he and Eve Ronin must sort this out. Meanwhile, the threat escalated and the woman was shot.

As with the rest of the books in this series, we will find some really good plot in this one. Eve and Duncan must lead an investigation where no one, including their superiors, wants to help them, while at the same time, everyone is pressing for the investigation to be closed as soon as possible. Untrustworthy witnesses make the work of our main characters even more difficult, the shooter seems to continue his mission, and the subsequent victims do not make the situation any clearer.

As always, we can also count on an interesting ending when we discover that not everything is what it initially seemed. The stakes are high, of course, and Eve doesn't shy away from the dangers. In the background we also have a TV show that, despite Eve's reluctance, will be based on her life, which introduces some humour to the story.

I like how a close-knit pair is Duncan and Eve, who, while an unlikely pair of allies, actually get along very well and work really well together. Watching them work together is so nice.

I can't wait to see what else happens in this series.

Movieland by L. Goldberg, published by Thomas & Mercer, is book four in the Eve Ronon Series. For best reading experience I recommend to read the books in order.
I stzarted reading and was thrown right into the story, the characters.
Eve and Duncan are partners at the LAPD. They investigate a crime where an activist blooger wqas shot and the crimescene is a famous place in LA.
To top it off, Eve is kind of a celebrity herself with a TV Show after her life. Yup that kind of people the reader has to deal with.
This is a complex, twisty read. It took me a minute to get into the storyline, but all in all it's an intriguing read, 4,5 stars.

The book has a good plot but the initial part of the story was slow to the point of boring. But the narrative picked up midway and then it was another roller coaster.

This is book 4 in the Eve Ronin series and seriously solid addition. Solid writing. Solid storyline. I've read the whole series as galley's and I have to say, I think this one is my favorite.

In the fourth installment of the Det. Eve Ronin series, Eve and her partner, Duncan Pavone, are called to the scene of a fatal shooting in Malibu State Park. They eventually find that this shooting is related to a string of serial shootings that Pavone has been concerned about for years. The reports of the shootings have been kept quiet by the authorities in order to keep the public calm and visitors coming to the park. To solve this case, Eve will have to face higher-ups, corruption, and her own problems.

This was another solid and entertaining book by Lee Goldberg. The mystery unfolded in a way that was easy to understand, while still being complicated and interesting enough to keep you guessing, in thanks especially to the few red herrings thrown into the mix. I love a good procedural, particularly if there is a female main character, so this series has been such a fun ride for me.

I really like Eve as a character. She is competent and moral enough to root for, but still clearly has her fair share of flaws (though she is working on some of them, as evidenced in this novel). She is dogged in her pursuit of answers, which sometimes leads to her taking dangerous and unnecessary risks, but she gets results! Something I've enjoyed throughout this series is the dynamic between Eve and Duncan, and this was no exception in Movieland. Their partnership is so much fun, and I really like the almost father-daughter sort of relationship they have.

I highly recommend this series if you love crime procedurals and/or strong female characters. I look forward to seeing what Eve Ronin does next! Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing this ARC in exchange for my unbiased review.

Detective Eve Ronin and her about-to-retire senior partner tackle the murder of a woman who was camping in a state park. It eventually emerges—not too soon, thanks to various parties attempting to cover things up—that this fatal shooting represented a fatal escalation of a string of serial shootings in the area. Jurisdictional ambiguity over crimes in the state park allowed previous shooting reports of shootings to be minimized or inadequately investigated by park staff. Once again, Eve finds herself at odds with resentful coworkers but also with higher-ups in her department who are trying to downplay the possibility that a serial offender is at work. Meanwhile, the TV pilot based on Eve’s life is entering production, and of course her family is on hand to try to grab their 15 minutes of fame by association with the project.

This is an excellent series with an engaging protagonist who is highly competent but has no shortage of problems. I’ve read them all, but knowledge of the previous books in the series is not necessary to enjoy this entry. This plot wasn’t my favorite; the story strained credulity at times due to the sheer number of bad guys there are supposed to be in Eve’s department, and also how one park staff member could have so much power to suppress the reporting/or investigation of criminal activity. With characters this strong, I look forward to the next entry in the series.

An excellent entry in a refreshingly different series. I have read all of the books in this series and truly enjoyed them. The protagonist is clearly flawed but someone whose side you are on. Her growth and improved self awareness are evident in this book, particularly toward the end. The central crimes that move Goldberg’s plot are both timely and unique, The characters, even the less central ones, are each well drawn and memorable. I read the entire book in one day because i wanted to both know who committed the central crime and what would happen to Eve and her partner. I highly recommend this book.

This was my introduction to the Eve Ronin series, and, while I tuned into the series 4 books in, the author does an awesome job of catching the reader up on the numerous main/support characters, so you easily are able to get contextual awareness. This is a pretty standard run-of-the-mill cop/procedural drama book. Eve Ronin and her partner Duncan Pavone are assigned a case at Malibu Creek State Park after a woman is shot dead and another barely survives. Ronin and Pavone quickly realise they are on the tail of a serial shooter – one who has been terrorising the national park for months, but reports of which have been suppressed by various authorities to avoid panic and keep the visitors coming. This was a very enjoyable and quick read – smashed it out in just a few days. The plot is complex enough, with a few red herrings thrown in. The book is well written with a good touch of humour and keeps the reader sucked in. I’ll go back and read the previous 3! 4/5 stars. Fascinating in the racing from scene to scene without a hint of clues. Trying to keep the public safe while the brass loves a cover up. The partnering of rookie & ready-for-retirement detective make for a great team. The rookie undeserving of her rapid advancement needs here partner to keep her reigned in

Lee Goldberg continues to write laugh out loud detective "dramas" with this addition to the Eve Ronin series.

Eve and "Donuts" find themselves investigating a shooting which took place on the scenic land belonging to the Malibu State Park.
Apparently,the beautiful views are prime land for the real estate world which does not sit well with local conservationists. So,when a conservationist is shot and murdered while camping on park lands, the investigation leads the detectives to believe that the shooting may not be an isolated incidence.
Eve continues to feel pressure from co-workers to prove herself worthy of her position in the department and her soon- to- be retired partner, Duncan aka "Donuts",continues to share his insight and experience while adding comic relief as only he can; and it usually involves food!
A must read if you love Goldberg :)

Love this one! The first book for me to read by this author but definitely not my last! Highly recommend!

I was a big fan of the first 3 Eve Ronin books - easily hooked, quick pace, strong characters, good plots, solid reads. Unfortunately this one I did not feel the same about. First off, I'm ready for Eve to have some more growth. She's still so insecure and it ends up with her causing so much drama just bc she’s trying to prove herself. While this was fine, and even entertaining at first, it's getting old in book 4. The other issue I had with the book was that I felt like the investigating teams kept explaining processes to each other in order for the reader to understand. But it made it more tedious and unrealistic to me. I didn't find myself interesting in the plot for much of the book. This might be the end of the road for me for Eve but I am definitely interested to look into some of Goldberg's other books.

Movieland by Lee Goldberg. A thrilling police procedural with all the drama that is Hollywood drama interspersed with historical facts of Malibu. Eve and “Donuts” are true to form and their humorous interactions create many laugh out loud moments. The 4th book in the Eve Ronin series has the main and reoccurring secondary characters personalities evolving. Eve's mom is quite an interesting character. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
