Addictive book! Would definitely recommend.
Connor is completing his sas training. Things don't go quite to plan and so ensues a gripping storyline of kidnap. Will Connor be able to escape and make it home to see his daughter Ivy?
Thanks to netgally for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book is not for the faint hearted. It is very gripping, tense and definitely a little bit horror story.
A predator on Bodmin Moor is not quite what the Marines had in mind when they sent off soldiers on an exercise.
I enjoyed it, but had to wince in places.
This book truly captured the idea of a mystery novel! It's creepy, unpredictable, and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! Would recommend.
Connor gets kidnapped on a military excercise by a mad woman. She has killed his partner, drugged him and dislocated his ankle. She has a sister there too, who she drugs to keep her docile. Can Connor escape this nightmare?
A gripping horror, with an evil jailer!
Having read and enjoyed the author’s first book last year, I was thrilled to be able to request her second on Netgalley. I ultimately have mixed feelings about this book - it did start off rather slowly for my preferences however the tension and intrigue slowly crept in, making it slightly more tricky to put down. I think this is a book that definitely requires you to suspend belief as some situations were mind-boggling and unthinkable, especially the ending. What this book had in spades was atmosphere which is always a positive for me when reading any book. While not as enjoyable as Down By The Water, I can clearly see the author’s talent and am glad I got the chance to read her second novel.
This is an addictive, engrossing read. I stayed up all night so that I could find out how it would end. A very original premise of SAS type men having to meet a rendevous point in a limited amount of time while being hunted down by paratroopers.. Very different.
You Can Stay is a phenomenal thriller from start to finish. Filled to the brim with twists and a captivating plot, this one is sure to keep readers hooked. The characters are well-developed. The story is incredibly fast-paced. This is one not to be missed! Highly recommended! Be sure to check out You Can Stay asap.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book by Elle Connel.
This is the first book which I have read by Elle and it definitely didn't disappoint.
All the while I was wondering what would happen, but I certainly didn't guess what happened at the end - I liked the ending, but I was hoping for a nicer ending - this ending was much more shocking!!
A great read - thank you!
Unfortunately another book for the did not finish pile. Connor is on a mission on Bodmin moor. However, he breaks a rule. That he’s not to seek shelter. He does and his life is in danger.
I just couldn’t get into the book. Perhaps it was the baby lamb that did it.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC
While army training on Bodmin moor, Conor is left by his partner Dele, tired and exhausted he meets a local lady who lives close by. Despite knowing he should survive outside alone in order to pass his training he takes her up on her offer of a place to stay for the night.
Little does he know what her true intentions are. Will he make it to the next rendezvous point?
Atmospheric, dark and intriguing, I found the characters hard to get to know and didn’t really feel drawn to them I found it slow going at times and struggled to keep going. I am however glad I read to the end.
, thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title.
Connor is on special training in Bodmin Moor. Feeling low and deserted by his partner he breaks the rules and accepts shelter. A mistake he will live to regret. Leaving to continue his mission is no longer under his control. I found the storyline too unbelievable and at times monotonous. Many shocks along the way.
I really enjoyed this book. Connor is being hunted on Bodmin moor as part of his training for Special Services. Cold and hungry, he doesn't resist when he meets Eilidh and she offers him food and a bed. But Eilidh has plans for Conor. After seducing him, she makes it virtually impossible for him to leave her isolated cottage. And who is Julie, the strange woman she lives with? This is a very scary story that will keep you on the edge of your seat to the end! Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Copied to Goodreads.
At first I didn't know what to think. I was thinking, this isn't for me, what am I reading? But.......and a big BUT, am I glad I carried on reading it! Oh my goodness, what a superb story!!
A soldier estranged from his girlfriend and his little child, is going out on training in the middle of nowhere, and he and his comrades have to survive and get to their rendezvous, without being found by their 'Trainers' & their dogs!!
Well, what an outcome!! I wasn't expecting that story at all, or the ending!! That was a really good ending!!!!!!!!
Brilliant book!! Thoroughly enjoyed it!!
You Can Stay by Elle Connel is a fast paced and very tense action thriller. It’s almost a horror story and is so well told that I couldn’t put it down until I’d finished it. It’s scary and it’s pacy, leaving the reader wondering and hoping if it’ll all end well.
There are certainly elements of Stephen King’s ‘Misery’ which I loved. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a little piece of horror fiction and who also appreciates a shocker of a twist towards the end.
My thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book to read and review.
Eilidh lives in a farmhouse on Bodmin Moor. Connor is taking part in the elite Special Forces training programme. Exhaustion is setting in for Connor but he and fellow soldier, Dele Oduro need to check in at the next rendezvous point. Eilidh convinces Connor to rest at her place though he knows he's wrong to do so as he's breaking the rules. But what is Eilidh's plan for Connor?
Riveting and disturbing, You Can Stay was a great read. The outcome was nigh on impossible to guess so I didn't try. Gritty and intense with good characterisation, I highly recommend it.
This review was written voluntarily and my rating was in no way influenced by the fact that I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from Headline, Wildfire via NetGalley.
A great exciting read set on Dartmoor at the finale of the toughest training known as Final Selection to SAS or SBS. Four combatants set out together but who will survive whatever is thrown at them. I don’t want to give away any of the plot but safe to say that by the end of the book you feel you’ve done the selection process yourself. Anthony Horowitz is a very gifted author who manages to make us empathise with all his characters, even the most flawed.
Oh blimey, this was a real thriller. I lost sleep reading this!!
Connor is a soldier and is on Special Manoeuvres across Bodmin Moor in Cornwall and is at the mercy of Eilidh who offers him food and shelter. Except she has far far more in mind for him than that.
Gripping, creepy and gruesome in parts. A great read.
I’m not sure how I felt about this book. I didn’t like any of the characters and I didn’t like the similarity to Misery. In fact, it was Misery but with a sex obsessed protagonist and I couldn’t get my head around Eilidh looking like anyone other than Kathy Bates which I don’t think was how she was supposed to look. Anyway it was okay and the ending was okay if a little rushed. 3 1/2 stars
You Can Stay by Elle Connel.
She's the perfect host. He's the perfect victim.Someone is hunting Connor. Alone, freezing, in the wilderness of Bodmin Moor, on an elite Special Forces training exercise, he'd be a fool to scorn the kindness of a local stranger. Wouldn't he?At first, Eilidh seems to be an impeccable host. She offers Connor food and a warm bed - he finds it nearly impossible to leave her charming farmhouse.
But the choice isn't his to make
Wow. Brilliant read. On the Edge of your seat. Couldn't put it down. 5*.
Very similar to Stephen King's Misery, so if that's your thing, you'll probably enjoy this.
I did almost give up reading at the beginning as I found the first four chapters really slow, but I decided to persevere and once it got going it was actually a gripping reading.
Connor is taking part in the elite Special Forces training exercise on Bodmin Moor. The final stage of training involves evading a squad of paratroopers and their dogs, who are hunting him down and he has very few resources.
Connor stumbles upon an isolated cottage. The owner, Eilidh offers him a place to rest. He knows this is against the rules but accepts her offer as he is hungry and in need of rest. This is his biggest mistake!
Many thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and author for an ARC.
