Digital detox is a great read to get a grasp on the effects our digital world has on our kids short and long term. Great suggestions on detoxing and its benefits for our families. I recommend this as a great read and insight.
In Digital Detox, Molly DeFrank lays out a clear and thorough, but flexible, plan for families looking to reduce their screen time. It was fascinating to read her description of how her family pulled this off, and gave me lots of ideas for managing something similar in my family. I also appreciated that, even though it's clear DeFrank is coming from a Christian perspective, her advice is on the whole very general and secular. This detox is something that would be valuable for any family, no matter their cultural or religious background.
this is definitely an interesting book that can be useful to many people! especially in this day and age parents do need to know how to help build a healthy dynamic between their kids and technology. However, i do think this book leans a little bit too far into helicopter parenting for my tastes.
Digital Detox really helped make me realize how often and how greatly screen time is affecting our kids. The solutions it gave were practical and realistic, and offered long term results. It was comforting to read a real account of a family going through a digital detox and the tribulations and rewards that come from it. DeFrank was thorough in her advice of how to tackle the two week (plus) detox, and I look forward to trying this myself.
