This five chapter preview has me DYING to read the rest of this book! These five chapters alone had intrigue, a spicy scene, run ins with characters we’ve met in previous books, and a thirst for more! Can’t wait until the full book comes out!!

5/5 for Wicked Beauty by Katee Robert

As the daughter of one Zeus and the sister of another, Helen Kasios life as never been her own. But now, she has the chance of a lifetime when one of the Thirteen, Ares, dies. Her plans of entering the tournament to become Ares and gaining her freedom is ruined when she BECOMES part of the prize. The one that wins the title...also wins her.

Achilles and Patroclus has built their way up to the inner circle. Born from nothing, they have worked hard and deceived many to gain their position. Now, they have the opportunity to gain more and become forever known. But Helen is the obstacle they did not account for, especially when their chemistry burns so much.

WOW. The five chapter preview was AMAZING. Helen is exactly the type of privileged I expect her to be, yet she is NOT naive. If anything, she is probably the most aware of her surroundings. Caliisto is one manipulative b...and I LOVE IT! My hate for the new Zeus has grown though, he honestly seems super selfish. I want Helen to betray him and establish herself on her own grounds, not as his sister. I haven't really been able to form a good opinion Achilles and Patroclus. They are definitely driven towards their goal, but I can't judge their character just yet. From what I have read, Achulles is a little reckless and Patroclus is more grounded, but a little soft.

Thank you for the preview!

Title: Wicked Beauty
Date Read: Feb 8, 2022
Rating: ? (so far 4 out of 5)

This is an ARC from Netgallery preview freebie. Which means I only have access to the first 5 chapters. Booooooooo. I need the full book. @katee_robert please grant me a full copy! ;)

Make sure to read books 1 & 2 before jumping to this one.

This is book 3 of the Dark Olympus series. It's a dark romance (erotic steamy mythological retelling) of Helen of Troy, Achilles, and Patroclus. First of all, thank you for the map in the beginning of the book. Many other authors can learn from this. This helps the readers to know what kind of world you are shaping. I listened to the audio of Neon Gods (book 1 of the series), I didn't have access to the map and kind of learned of the world while listen. With this map, it all makes sense in the contemporary world you have built. Thank you.

This world is done in a very loosely concept of Greek Mythology, please toss out ideas of what you know on the stories. Go in with for the ride and just enjoy. You will enjoy it so much more than trying to question. This retelling is just loosely based on the stories we know. Think of it as the names stay the same but the rest is all moving part.

I can tell this is going to be interesting because I'm seeing more elements of the Spartan Helen. This means she is going to be a warrior and I'm looking forward to that. I do tend to read a lot of nonfiction Spartan books, so I'm curious to where this is going to lead. I will not be upset if it doesn't follow the Spartan way. I will just enjoy the ride. I will be waiting to find out what happens once the book is released.

In this copy (kindle preview of first 5 chapters) there are just a few editing issues (less than 5 I have found). Extra spaces between a few words and/or sentence. I'm sure it will be all cleaned up before the releasing date.

Releasing June 7, 2022.

The modernization of the Greek Gods in such an authentic way to their story is new story concept for me. Instead of just giving a “re-telling”, Katee Robert keeps the characters and brings them to this century. The character development is amazing and the dynamic between the characters breathes life into the story. Helen’s strength is constantly doubted and she proves herself when doubted. She is a strong female lead who shows women that they can fight for the things that they want. Katee’s writing style leaves you always wanting for more. I am constantly telling myself “just one more chapter” until I end up finishing the whole preview in one setting. After reading the preview I cannot wait to read the full book when it is released!

I will be posting a review of the preview on my Instagram @libraryofhallie and on Goodreads!

This little preview of the book had me extremely excited to read the whole book. I have throughly enjoyed the books so far as it is an interesting take on the greek mythology I grew up learning about. I am a proud nerd and I loved Greco/Roman mythology and even won several regional awards in.

Needless to say, one of my favorite books is the Illiad by Homer which features Helen, Achilles and Patrolocus. This is an interesting take on the three well known characters. I like the fact that this Helen has depth, she's not just the pretty face that launched 1,000 ships. Shipping her with Achilles and Patrolocus is interesting also because in the Illiad they were opposite sides of the Trojan War. I am very curious to see how Katee Robert will take this book.

Unfortunately, this series is just not for me! I am not very familiar with mythology and this series leans heavily into it. I feel like it jumps right into the story without the character building I need to care.

Love, love, love being able to get previews on Netgalley! I wasn't a big fan of Neon Gods by this author but this book looks really interesting (and spicy)! I'm a big mythology fan so I want to keep giving Roberts a chance and now that I'm waiting on Wicked Beauty, I need to pick up Electric Idol.

I can’t wait for this book to come out! Such an interesting start to the book. The fact that there are lgbtqia characters makes me love this series even more.

Oh my I've heard this author knows how to write an inventive steamy romance and these sample chapters have left me in no doubt about it ! I'm loving the idea of Olympians in a modern world setting and the twist of them having to compete for what could be hereditary positions is very original. Add in a very determined heroine and two guys clearly devoted to each other and I very much look forward to reading this book when it's published.

I was able to read the first 5 chapters of this and I DEVOURED it! I actually kind of regret reading the preview because I NEED the full book now. I liked Helen in the previous book and could tell she was more than meets the eye. That becomes apparent very early on in this book. Achilles and Patroclus….I’m already in love with them. I can’t wait for this book to be released. I know it’s going to be steamy but also angsty. Pretty much everything I adore, especially when the heroine decides that she wants to take control of her own destiny!

I’m so excited to read the rest of this book! This five chapter preview was not enough! I’m excited for these characters. I love modern retellings of the gods and goddesses.

Wow. This was fantastic! I need the rest of the book like, yesterday. Chapters 1-5 were not enough. I think the rest of Wicked Beauty is going to be so good. Helen seems so confident and powerful, and Achilles and Patroclus are hot. Very excited for the rest of this book to come out, and particularly I can't wait till it comes out on audio. Audio is definitely my preferred reading for the Dark Olympus series.

I have received a preview of this book in exchange for an honest review on NetGalley, I was so excited, it is one of my most anticipated reads of the year (I tore through the first two Dark Olympus Books so quickly!) and this was an amazing taste at what is to come.
I love the world building in this series, the fact that the Gods are a title and position more instead of a person is such a great way of building a new and unique view of these characters. I find that the 21st Century, urban setting is a good way of making these personalities accessible, not to mention relevant.
My interest in Helen in particular was piqued in Electric Idol, I wanted to know her motivation and goals, it was clear even as a side character that she was more than a vapid party girl. From the beginning I adored Helens attempts to secure her own agency and I am excited to see how this develops.
The groundwork is very evidently set for Helen x Achilles x Patroclus and I am excited and curious to see how this plays out. The establishment of childhood friendship between Helen and Patroclus adds an additional dimension to their relationship that I am eager to see expand and the dynamic with Achilles too.
The taste of the spice in this book was great and the dynamic between Achilles and Patroclus was well written,
I always find that the mark of an authentic and genuine retelling of Greek Mythology is taking the stance that Paris is the worst, which, was confirmed early in this sample.

I’m so excited for the full book!! I love seeing the setup of how the relationship will develop between the three as well as the hints of chaotic Callisto energy!!!

Katee Robert's mythology retellings all stand out compared to others and based on these few chapters, Wicked Beauty is no exception to her excellence. In just the beginning chapters, she sets the scene for what promises to be an epic battle for the title of Ares as well as what might turn out to be a perfect power throuple. All three of the main characters have an uphill battle in the fight for Ares (and love??) and I can't wait to read the rest of this book and see how it plays out.

These first 5 chapters were so good!! They had me totally hooked.

This series is so good and I can’t wait to read the rest of the book.

The fact that this is an Achilles/Patroclus AND Helen story? screaming. Katee Robert didn't fail us with Hades and Persephone. She didn't fail us with Eros and Psyche. There is no way she will fail us with these three and after reading the first five chapters, I KNOW this to be true. I love a modern retelling of the Gods!
