I enjoyed this book! The way it was told and the characters were great, even if the plot seemed familiar. The grandmother was my absolute favorite!

This was just an ok romcom for me. I think the premise was a good one, but somehow it failed to deliver the goods. I thought Alex’s attitude was quite inconsistent and that her chemistry with Will didn’t really manifest until the very end even though it seemed like she had always loved him from the start. I did enjoy reading about the side characters, especially Jane and the sassy grandma. Overall, this was ok but could have been better.

When I read the synopsis of this book, I was like "I think I'm going to see myself in this book" and boy, I wasn't expecting for it to hit me that much! I tweeted about how much I related. I truly appreciate reading a romance where I saw myself in them, though it felt like a mirror. There was a great build up to the romance and I really enjoyed the friends! I'm hoping for books with the MC's friends as a potential series!

Happy Pub Day to Thank You, Next by Andie J Christopher!

Alex is a no-nonsense badass divorce attorney who is a little weary of love herself due to her job and childhood but when she sees her most recent ex's new fiancee on Say Yes to the Dress she starts to question past relationships.

This had a really cute premise but I just couldn't get into the book. Alex was a little too brash for me and I struggled to get invested in the story.

Short synopsis: Alex sees her ex and his fiancé on “Say Yes to the Dress” and is on a mission to figure out why all her exs are getting married after breaking up with her.

My thoughts: I loved the concept behind this one, the self discovery troupe. I just didn’t understand why she really cared. If Alex didn’t like the idea of marriage why did she cared that exs ended up getting married.

I liked Alex, very self aware in what she wants and works hard for it. I also liked Will (why didn’t I marry a chef??) and their chemistry was great! ust throw it all out there! And Lexi, she has got to be the sassiest Grandma ever!

I struggle with the miscommunication(or lack of communication) troupe. And my only other complaint was I felt like there were just too many characters introduced, it was hard to keep them all straight in my mind.

Read this if you’re a sucker for:
* Talking to your exs
* Airing your dirty laundry
* Dating chefs
* Second chance romance

2.5 Stars

“And on days like today, she especially didn’t understand why some other women were so eager to be married. It ended so badly so often, and even her friends in good marriages sounded as though they were suffering from a very bad particular form of Stockholm syndrome. If Alex had a dollar for every time of her married friends started a sentence with “I love my husband, but” and then recounted him doing something truly horrific, she could retire. Even though she’d dated a few guys whom she could have seen herself married to, she had never understood why married men were never expected to make sacrifices, other than the opportunity to sleep with other women without hiding it. And, considering the size of her client base, some of them couldn’t even manage to do that.”

Alex Turner, brilliant and cynical divorce attorney, doesn’t believe in love. She has kept every man she has dated at arm’s length, and that has never bothered her before until the day she sees her last ex-boyfriend’s fiancé on the show Say Yes to the Dress. Alex spirals out of control finding out that every one of her previous relationships settled down immediately after her. This sets her on a mission to find out why she was never “the one”.

Will Harkness has always cared about Alex from afar but knew that anything between them was impossible because of their complicated family relationship. After Will finds out about Alex’s escapades, he tags along with the hope in discovering how to win Alex’s heart.

Oh boy. I had some huge problems with this one. First, Alex is set up to give off strong boss girl vibes, but in the way that she is presented she comes across as spoiled, rude, and one of the most unlikeable characters I have ever read. She disguises her rude remarks and bad attitude as “brutal honesty” which it isn’t. After the halfway point, I am supposed to believe that now she believes in romance and love because Will finally decides he loves her. He deserved better, and she deserved to be in therapy to become a functioning adult before getting into a relationship.

If you’re a fan of snarky and strong heroines like those of Alexis Daria and Tessa Bailey then give this a try. It might work better for you than it did for me.

A journey of self-discovery with some pretty great characters. I really liked this premise with Alex determined to find out why she keeps sending exes off to find love. Having Will along certainly keeps things interesting. He ended up being my favorite character in the book. He's just the sweetest guy. We get a lot of flashbacks and while I'm not usually a fan of so much of that, Will and Alex have known each other so long that the flashbacks were necessary. These two do get frustrating at times, but I think that's all a part of the journey. Part of the journey or not, I seriously wanted to shake both of them several times throughout the story. So, yes, the book does stir up the emotions - even if one of them is annoyance because I just wanted them to communicate. Of course, it wouldn't have been much of a story without some struggle to get to the finish line, would it? So, as frustrating as Will and Alex sometimes were, I was invested in their romance. This is my first Andie J Christopher book, but it won't be my last. She's written an engaging, fast-paced romance that I enjoyed from cover to cover.

Can you learn about yourself by interviewing your ex’s (all of who married the woman who they dated immediately after breaking up with you)? How much did your disjointed upbringing and dysfunctional parents impact your adult self? How hard is it to take a chance a relationship with the man you’ve loved since you were teens when you’re not sure that you believe it exists and certainly don’t believe good, longtime marriages exist?

Alex and Will were brought together by unconventional circumstances when her serial marrying grandmother married his serial marrying father. For the next 15 years, they danced around each other’s lives….Alex told herself that she hated him and Will told himself that he loved making her crazy. Lexi, Alex’s grandmother, WIll’s stepmom, and the only stable love in in both of their childhoods, knew they belonged together.

While I typically like books that provide the character’s internal voices juxtaposed to their dialogue, I think there was a little too much on the former and not enough of the latter. Overall, I enjoyed Thank You, Next…it was sweet, funny and the women were real.

[I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book]

“Thank You, Next” by Andie J. Christopher is a contemporary and romantic comedy that tells the story of a single divorce attorney, Alex Turner, and talented chef, Will Harkness. Will and Alex have known each other since they were teenagers and have remained great friends throughout the years.

Alex’s past relationships have always ended with her ex-boyfriends going into a committed relationship fairly quickly after breaking up with her. When Alex sees her recent ex-boyfriend on a reality show and he and his new girlfriend picking out a wedding dress, Alex reflects on her dating life.

Will learns that Alex and her friends, Lana and Jane, are going on a mission to interview all of Alex’s exes to find out why they move on so quickly after ending a relationship with her. Will has feelings for Alex and decides to tag along to take note of what her exes did wrong so he can make sure he doesn’t make the same mistake with Alex. During this mission, Alex realizes that the answer to her question might have been with her all along.

Although the book focused a lot on past events and actions, thus making the novel more of storytelling rather than showing the characters at the moment, the book had a cute concept! This book was a slow-paced read and I enjoyed seeing Alex grow throughout the novel. Christopher does a great job balancing humour and solid banter between the characters as well as discussing serious themes including relationships and trust.

Thank you, next is a contemporary romantic comedy featuring single divorce lawyer Alex and Will, a talented chef. They met many years ago when her grandmother was married to his father, but lost touch after their divorce. Alex has a history of her boyfriends breaking up with her and then getting into serious relationships right afterwards so when she sees her most recent ex’s new fiancé on a reality show picking out her wedding dress, she decides to go on a quest to meet up with all her exs and find out what it really was about her that made them realize that they weren’t going to go the distance. When Will discovers Alex’s quest, he decides to go along with her to protect her. Can they find the answers they’re seeking? Can they find their happy ever after?
The author does a great job of showing how past events and relationships affect who you are now and what you bring to a relationship. There’s a lot of emotional delving and some fun moments as well.
Thanks to Berkley Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

💛 I LOVE Thank You, Next! This book is a fun, quick read. Not only is the cover is cute, but Alex and Will are everything. ♥️

❔ If given the opportunity, would you interview an ex to learn what went wrong during the relationship?

💛Alex does, and it feels like she opens Pandora’s box. 😳 When she decides to explore the past to learn why her exes always marry the next girl they date, she unexpectedly finds herself confronting an unrequited childhood crush. Alex will need to decide to if she is ready to trust another with heart and give love a try.

💛 What I didn’t like was the ending. I was incredibly caught off guard, and I reread the last few paragraphs just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. Nevertheless, Andie writes a HEA. 😉

💛Read this book if you love the enemies to lovers trope, second chance romances, and the unrequited love trope.

"Your face is extremely punchable"
Alex Turner is a very successful divorce lawyer who just sees her ex boyfriend on Say Yes to the Dress. Which sends her into a social media rabbit hole noticing that her other ex's seemed to get married shortly after they broke up with her. Which sends her on a mission to figure out why.
Her childhood crush/enemy Will who is still in her grandmother's life after his father married her for a short period of time, also just shows up when she doesn't want to see him.
After a few of her visits with her ex's to ask questions he decides he needs to escort her for her safety. Which fans old feelings to life and
They both didn't have good relationship examples growing up so they are def hesitant in relationships. It makes sense most people build walls to protect themselves.
There was a time that I thought there was something wrong with me cause the guys I dated never thought of me seriously, but maybe I wasn't acting serious lol.

Read if you like:
Enemies to lovers
Sassy famous grandmas
Great girl side characters and relationships

I thought Father Patrick was going to forever reign supreme as my favorite Andie J. Christopher leading man, but Will Harkness has officially taken the title. Thoroughly steamy while still addressing a lot of issues that both Alex and Will needed to face, Thank You, Next was an entertaining ride through Alex's past romances in order to get her to where she needed to be: at peace with herself and ready to trust to heart to another.

I knew immediately that I needed Alex and Will to get together. Christopher writes amazing tension and chemistry between characters, and I could just feel that gravitational pull between them - even when they were at each other's throats. While obviously Alex's past relationships play a major role in the whole plot, I loved that Will's past ended up also contributing to his relationship with Alex. Both main characters had past issues that were hurting their chance at happiness, and I absolutely loved that they could work through those issues at the same time. For once, I felt like I read a book where both main love interests were on equal footing rather than one character working through their problems while the other waited for them.

There were so many fantastic characters in this book. Alex was great in so many ways: she was strong-willed and educated, she was confident in her career, she owned her biracialness, and she was wise enough to know her own patterns of behavior and could see when she was about to let history repeat itself. Alex could be frustrating in her habit of running from love, but it was so rewarding to see her stop the pattern and actually open her heart to another person.

Will officially tops my list of favorite Andie J. Christopher leading men. It sounds weird to say, but I loved how flawed Will was as a love interest. He actually had some similar relationship issues to Alex, and it was refreshing to see the man (especially a strong, silent type like Will) be willing to see his own faults and acknowledge them to both himself and others. I also loved how patient he was with Alex. He didn't expect perfection from her, and that made him willing to wait for her to finish her own journey before attempting to build a future together. Both Will and Alex were lost souls, and I loved how they were able to understand and complement each other in ways that no one else ever could.

The award for best supporting character has to go to Lexi, Alex's grandmother and Will's former step-mother (yes, Will was at one point Alex's step-uncle - it's complicated, don't ask). Lexi is such a meddling character, pushing for Alex and Will to get together since they were teenagers. She was spunky and definitely did not act her age. A serial dater (and no stranger to multiple marriages), Lexi was all about living life to the fullest and ended up being just the example that both Alex and Will needed to finally find their happiness.

Overall, Thank You, Next was such a fun and steamy read. Alex and Will were perfectly flawed main characters who immediately caught my eye and continued to hold my attention through all their trials. I was rooting for them before they were rooting for themselves, and their journey was so satisfying to watch unfold. With Christopher's trademark spice, wonderful characters, and an entertaining plot, Thank You, Next is a must read romance.

I loved the concept of this. Kind of reminded me a lot of Hulu show High Fidelity and the movie Good luck Chuck.
This story is about Alex, an emotionally closed off commitment phobe who wonders why her exes seem to find the one after dating her. She sets off on a journey of self discovery with the assistance of her childhood crush Will.
I liked the idea, but the execution felt a bit lackluster. I think Alex is similar to Nora from Book Lovers but Alex lacks Nora’s charisma. Will was okay but there wasn’t much to his character. The chemistry was there but I felt the romance didn’t really work.
Overall this was an okay read.

I love Andie J. Christopher's unapologetic, strong, female characters - having read all her books, this is a theme I notice throughout and find relatable. Alex, our heroine, is the best of the best when it comes to divorce lawyers (even Forbes ranked her as such) - and maybe it's her profession, but she's been sullied on love - and her world is rocked when she realizes she's been a bit of a "good luck chuck" with each of her past partners going on to marry the next person they date after her. On a quest to figure out why this is, Alex goes in search of answers, but maybe the answer was close by all along...

Thank you to Berkley Romance for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

I love a prickly heroine and Andie Christopher writes them the best. Alex is a fantastic character, and honestly this has so many plot lines in it that feel like all my favorite rom-com movies. It's steamy, but also just a lot of fun between Alex and her friends, her grandmother, and her quest to find out why all the guys she's dated seem to meet "the one" right after dating her. Will and Alex know each other and their histories so well, so it's easy to see their connection, and they understand (and communicate!) the baggage the other carries.

Alex is a family law attorney, specializing in divorce. Because of what she sees in her everyday work life and what she grew up knowing, she doesn't really believe in marriage and happily ever after. When she sees her recent ex, Jason, on a reality show about getting married she realizes that after all of her relationships have ended the next person her ex dates turns into marriage. Thus sets forth her journey of self discovery as she interviews her past boyfriends to find out what went wrong.

Will and Alex refer to themselves as 'family friends', since his father was briefly married to her famous grandmother, Lexi. Both harbor a secret crush for each other that goes back to when they were teenagers, but both don't want to rock the boat and give love a try. When Will learns of Alex's plan he tags along to see what the ex's have to say, so he can figure out a plan to see what would happen if he gives his feelings a chance.

The back and forth between their perspectives really kept the story flowing at a nice pace. I really enjoyed all the characters, especially Will's grumpiness, Alex's honesty and Lexi's pizzazz.

This was a quick, slow burn, somewhat enemies to lovers and somewhat second chance romance that had me chuckling quite a few times. It's heavy on diversity and slim on the communication.

Alex and her friends are strong, independent women, as is her star of a grandmother. I loved seeing them interact with one another, and that they each lived a life of their own making that still allowed them to be their full selves.

Alex is a little prickly and standoffish, which I loved to see in the female protagonist of a romance. So often, they’re cast in the sunshine light, and women are allowed to be complicated, smart, and sexy, too.

Because I was so excited for the tagline premise of the book, the way it actually played out on the page fell short for me. Not that much space on the page is actually dedicated to the quest to interview Alex’s exes, considering it’s the primary plot driver in the synopsis. I wanted more awkward conversations and a longer parade of exes, and that just didn’t end up actually being the driving force of the book.

Ultimately, while there was a lot to love here, I felt let down by this book simply because I didn’t feel like it delivered on the premise that made me excited to pick it up in the first place. If I hadn’t gone in wanting more of that, I probably would have liked this book better.

I recommend this book to fans of an enemies-to-lovers romance, on-the-page spice, and watching flawed characters work to figure out their issues to find love. Thank You, Next came out today, June 14th.

I thought this book was fine, it was an entertaining romantic comedy read. There was some humor and good moments. However, I feel like this book just wasn’t for me and maybe the intended reader will love this more.

This started out super promising and it had so much potential. I was enjoying it at first but began to lose interest after reading more and more. Normally I don’t have issues with there not being enough conversations and dialogue, but I felt like this story lacked that and therefore didn’t care too much for the characters.

Although I understand and appreciate what the other was doing, this story just didn’t work for me. Miscommunication is a huge turn-off in a book for me, I don’t vibe with that trope. I will say that the supporting characters had me more invested than our MCs.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Berkley Romance for the review copy.
