This was okay. I wanted to like it more than I did. I got a little bit bored and a tad lost at times. I think the overall story was great and kept me interested to follow through to the end. The characters were intriguing and the plot was well paced. I just got a little confused by the characters at times. Maybe that was my own fault. It was definitely worth the read though. So I give it 3 and a half stars.

Huge thank you to @harperperennial and @harperaudio for the paperback and audio copies of this book.
This was a really quick and entertaining read for me. I liked the premise and felt for the main character. What made this one a bit disappointing for me is that I was able to correctly predict most of the twists and a few parts didn’t make sense to me. Overall a solid thriller and definitely look forward to the book by this author.
Quick synopsis: Saffy is pregnant and has moved into her grandmother’s old cottage with her boyfriend Tom. With renovations a body is discovered in the garden. The police must question her grandmother Rose who is in a home for those with memory issues. Saffy is insistent to find out the truth about the body in the yard.
From the description I couldn't wait to listen to this audio book. I loved the premise of two bodies being found in a garden when a young couple is doing an addition on their house. Who are they? How long have they been there? These questions and more come up during the investigation and Saffy, her boyfriend Tom, her mother Lorna, and her Gran Rose are all drawn into it in various ways. There are many secrets and I liked how the story built to such a climax at the end. The narrator, Kenton Thomas, did an excellent job building the tension.
I received a complimentary copy of this audio book from Harper Audio through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Another great thriller from Claire Douglas and this one a bit emotional. I loved the setting, all the secrets, twists and surprises and again it kept me at the edge of my sea from start to finish. I love her books!
Thank you HarperPerennial for this gifted copy.

Saffy and her boyfriend Tom move into a cottage that her grandmother, Rose, gifted her. They begin a kitchen renovation and find 2 bodies buried in the backyard. The bodies have been there for at least 30 years. Rose owned the cabin back then but had rented it out for many years. Now, Rose has Alzheimers and is not in the right state of mind to answer any of these concerns. Saffy and her mother, Lorna, try to solve the mystery of who these two people are and who killed them.
This was a fun psychological thriller. I loved the different POVs. There were a couple of twists that I didn’t see coming. Information was slowly released the further I read on. I really enjoyed this as it allowed me to create my own possible endings as I was reading. The characters were great, and the plot was fun to follow. Overall, it was a entertaining read that kept me on my toes.
Not for me. I tried the audiobook and the physical copy, and I just couldn't get into it.
There were too many characters, and it was a veeeeery slow burn story.
i can see people loving this book, but it's just not my style. I'll still give it 3 stars though.
Whew there was a lot going on in this book. A major part of the mystery was solved and I figured I was nearly done but I was only at 80%! It wasn't necessarily overly long, there was just so much going on...maybe too much.
I listened to this novel on audio and generally enjoyed it, although the accents were thick (particularly Theo's) and it caused me to really have to slow the reading speed down. Each character was played by a different narrator which I always prefer and it definitely helped keep the complex storylines more clear.
While this book was wholly original, a lot of the subplots and side stories were very familiar. The old woman with dementia seemingly speaking nonsense but who really holds the key to it all; the estranged relationships between father and son and mother and daughter; the powerful man behaving badly; the women fearful for their lives and hiding under a new identity.
All in all this was a good read but not one that is likely to stick with me. I probably would have enjoyed it more if some of the subplots were more streamlined or excluded all together.
Thank you to Harper Books, Harper Audio, and NetGalley for the copy of this novel.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperAudio for the ARC! This is an intriguing decades long mystery. Tom and Saffron have just moved into Saffron's ggrandmother's house. As they begin their kitchen renovations, two bodies are discovered buried in the yard. Who are the victims? Did Safrron's grandmother (now living in a home and experiencing dementia) have anything to do with the crimes? What's the true story about the home at number 9? Mystery and thriller fans should enjoy this book from Claire Douglas, as well as the narration from Kenton Thomas.
A young couple, Saffron and Tom, move into an inherited home and decide to complete some renovations to make it their own. Construction comes to a complete halt when 2 bodies are discovered in the garden. Police determine that the bodies are 30 years old. Unfortunately for the them, that is the same time Saffron’s grandmother lived in the cottage. From this point on dangerous secrets are uncovered that put the family in danger and shed a different light on her beloved grandmother.
This was an intriguing mystery told from multiple narrators. Each narrator provided a little more information that kept me guessing what happened to the very end. I had one of the main twists figured out pretty early but I had to know the why behind it ! This was a solid mystery that was well written and narrated. I will definitely look for more titles by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the female narrator but I had a hard time understanding the male. I loved the book and the twists and turns it took!
I really enjoyed this book. It was anything but boring. Highly recommended. Full of twist and turns and surprises.
I tried to read this one, I tried to listen to it and each time I only got to 20%. I wish the pacing was faster. It seems like some excitement happened at the beginning with the dead bodies and then there was some character development which I usually like but the suspense was lacking and the constant mention of who is Victor wasn't keeping it going for me.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book, and really enjoyed the narrator. Pregnant Saffron Cutter moves into a cottage she inherited from her grandmother, Rose. Saffron and her boyfriend are living happily until two bodies are discovered buried on their property. The bodies were buried when Saffron's grandmother Rose owned the house. Rose now has Alzheimer's and lives in a nursing home, Will the murders ever be solved?
I thought I knew what was going to happen, but the plot twist shocked me. Definitely a hard book to put down!
I liked the plot and characters but the audiobook was weird especially when the main character was talking on the phone.
Exceedingly well written this book presents with a well constructed plot that includes a character impaired by Alzheimer’s disease adding to the mystery with a sympathetic portrayal helping to raise awareness of the disease as well.. Well thought out and satisfying…BRAVO!
This was a really good thriller. I did guess the twist about half way through but I still really enjoyed the ride. I probably have been reading too many thrillers lately because I kept guessing the endings..
This novel singlehandedly got me back into the genre of suburban thrillers. Weaving together multiple perspectives with an unreliable narrator, Douglas was able to put a fresh spin on a story centered on one family. Even though I did guess a couple of the twists, I was still left shattered at the truths when they were finally laid out.
This one was unfortunately a DNF for me. I listened to about 30% and just couldn't get into yet. I didn't feel invested in any of the characters or the mystery and wanted the book to move at a faster pace.
I found the male narrator particularly hard to understand as well which may have added to my confusion.
I really enjoyed this book and the narrator. There were a few surprises I didn't see coming and audibly gasped when they were revealed. The way that the author weaved current day and the events of the past was skillfully down. This was a page turner that I couldn't put down. I will be recommending it to anyone who like Ruth Ware, Paula Hawkins, or Lisa Jewell.
