A strong start to a series with an intriguing plot.
I did feel that the story and writing got better as the book went on, and I definitely found myself warming to the characters (main and supporting) more and more throughout.
I do feel though that this one one of those series that would benefit from an introductory novella as there was a lot to pick up on and gaps that I couldn’t quite fill with my own imagination. Though it’s fair to say this series has some legs so this may happen over time.
The romance didn’t feel forced and the peril and danger felt measured throughout, so not too extreme despite the shifter trope of the book.
I think I’m looking forward to the next book, though the sister has a lot to make up for with it. She’s not had the greatest start!!
This book read like a bad fan fiction. The basic premise of the book was interesting and the characters were intriguing, and it could have made for a fantastic book, however the execution was lacking. The romance was not quite believable, and the storyline often felt rushed and confusing.
I’m a fan of romance and I’m a fan of fantasy, but this book didn’t quite hit the mark on either.
I love a good mystery and paranormal but this didnt flow right. The concept could have been great and I personally feel a beta reader could have fixed this book. The romance didnt really feel believable almost like we were missing the beginning part of it. So I didnt feel connected. Also I blame the show You.. because during the spicy bits all I could hear was "I wolf you" which made me wanna vomit. I would have loved to fall in love with a wolfpack some witches protecting the earth but it felt too forced for me. I am so sorry I didnt love it.. but lets say its a me problem and not a you problem.
I couldn't put it down. It was such a good start to this series. The characters were fun and I felt like I could relate to them. Can't wait for book two!
Thank you @authorbethanymaines and @thenextsteppr for inviting me to join the ARC team for this book.
This was such a great start to this series. Scarlet and Liam were really intriguing main characters. Their characters really started to develop around halfway through the book. I can't wait to see more from them and the others in the next book.
There was a little world building, but I feel like we could have benefited from a little more back story. It would have helped with the pacing as a lot of the back story and world building happened near the end of book.
Overall, this was a great introduction to the series and I'm already excited for the next one!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What a book! Panty dripping, shape shifter wolf, alpha male and a sexy strong woman with her own magical powers - cancel your afternoon and start the obsession with this new series from Bethany Maines. Really - cancel all plans. And if you are currently without a partner, charge your favorite toy.
Scarlet is found by her boss, Liam - crying in her Little Red Riding Hood costume. A man had put his hands where they weren't wanted - Scarlet made him pay but not without scrapping her knee.
Liam, a wolf shifter, sees his new secretary and loses it all. Only to discover her smart, sassy personality.
The plot - loved it, even though it did not allow for more sex scenes.
Grab your copy - you will not be disappointed.
