Take a Chance on Greece is a delightful romance with flashbacks to the movie the Hangover. It is a fun, feel-good story set in the most idyllic setting, Greece. This is the second Kerr novel I have read, and I'll say I throughly enjoy her romance writing. I look forward to the next fun, romance adventure from this author.
Thank you HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, One More Chapter for the advance reader copy.
Instantly transport yourself to the beautiful Greek island of Kefalonia in Emily Kerr’s new novel, Take a Chance on Greece. I read this book in an afternoon whilst lazing by the pool on another Greek island and enjoyed every page of it. Great characters and a fun plot line. Thank you to NetGalley, One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
I really liked this book. It was a fun summer read with believable characters and I was interested from the start as to what would happen. I recommend this one for sure. Thank you #netgalley
A really good summer read the reader is taken to Kefalonia and I really felt as though I was there experiencing a visit to the island and meeting the friendly locals. Perfect for sitting in the sunshine. Recommended.
What a fun story! Imagine waking up to find you have the name of a man you don’t remember tattooed on your body…I love that Kerr takes these seemingly fun and innocent things (a girls trip away or a duvet day) and turns them into a fun adventure!
The character development was a sight to see and also inspiring! Lydia starts as a pretty low-key, take-no-chances, in a steady relationship kind of gal and turns into a spur-of-the-moment decision maker who up and moves herself to a different country after not only discovering she got her first tattoo while under the influence (which she never does), but also after learning her boyfriend is a douche nozzle.
I enjoyed being immersed in Greek life and culture and seeing a wide variety of characters in this environment. Kerr did a great job of showing the care and helpfulness that Greek people offer when there are newcomers around. This is something I have seen as a common theme while reading stories that take place in Greece!
If you’re looking for something fun and not too heavy, Take a Chance on Greece is a great one to add to your TBR! Thank you to One More Chapter, Emily Kerr, and NetGalley for a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
What would you do if you were in Greece and woke up to find a tattoo that said, "Awesome Andreas" on your back? Well, this is what has happened to Lydia, however it is her last day on holiday with her friends. She returns to Yorkshire, England to her boyfriend/boss trying to hide it and remember what events exactly led her to get said tattoo.
Lydia discovers her boyfriend/boss is manipulative and perhaps is only really using her, so off she jets back to Greece to find her "Awesome Andreas." On her adventure, she meets many Andreas' and becomes really close with some of the locals. She is realizing she really does belong somewhere, and it may not be in England anymore.
Emily Kerr has written a delightful and witty tale. Lydia's journey is not only eventful but also ends up with her discovering what she truly wants and needs. I highly recommend this fun adventure in Greece!
Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for the digital ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
This book is a fun and lighthearted read. I really enjoyed reading it and it was a perfect escapism. I would definitely recommend it as a beach or holiday read.
I loved the description of Kefelonia, it made me want to visit there. It sounds like a perfect holiday destination.
This is a little predictable in places, but I didn't mind as it made me laugh, and it is a feel-good and entertaining read.
I will definitely read more books by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
I really enjoyed this. A lighthearted summer read, perfect for round the pool or even in the sunshine at home! Emily Kerr is a firm favourite for obvious reasons
How life can change so quickly! Lydia went on holiday to Greece with her two friends. Whilst there, she become very drunk & had a tattoo done on her back which said 'Awesome Andreas' & she had no recollection of having it done. A chain of events now take place & she finds herself back in Kefalonia, trying to find out who Andreas is.
This book did make me laugh in places. It was a light-hearted read that made you feel good.
I've read Emily Kerr books before & I've really enjoyed them. Great holiday read.
Funny, adorable with some cringeworthy (but in a good way) dates. You really root for Lydia. And Alexis... Who doesn't love a sweet guy who also happens to own a bookshop? The perfect summer read.
I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Take a Chance on Greece by Emily Kerr is the perfect summer read! Lydia our normally tame heroine takes a trip to Greece. While on her way home on the flight she realized she has a tattoo but no memory of where it came from. She decides to head back to Greece where adventure ensues. She makes friends, starts learning Greek, and is looking for her mystery man Andrais. LOVED this book and can't wait to read more from this author!
A lovely book to read apart from the fact that it was a little predictable. I guessed very early on in the book what would happen and I was right. The story was good though and I’m glad it ended on a happy note. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book and loved the descriptions of Kefalonia. An excellent holiday read. A very heartwarming story.
An absolutely perfect book to transport you away to Greece whilst sitting at home. The story follows the journey of Lydia and her quest to discover the name behind the tattoo she wakes up with on her back. An enjoyable story to lose yourself in for a while.
What's it about (in a nutshell):
Take A Chance on Greece by Emily Kerr is a delightfully funny tale of a woman who is anything but a party girl, waking up with a tattoo of a man's name and having no memory of getting it or what inspired her to get it. Her quest to discover the origins of the tattoo sends her on a journey of self-discovery that changes her life completely.
Initial Expectations (before beginning the book):
The cover is cute and cartoonish, depicting a fabulous view of the Mediterranean, I presume since the title mentions Greece. From that, I suppose the story will be a humorous holiday-type story. The blurb confirms this by describing a The Hangover type story which should be a lot of fun.
Actual Reading Experience:
Take A Chance on Greece made me smile my whole way through the book. It is a fun, feel-good story with a great setting – my ideal setting.
I enjoyed observing Lydia's growth above all else. This character-driven story follows her journey to break free from a life that trapped her and take a chance on the unknown for which she only has a mysterious tattoo to guide her. I think inside of all of us is that desire to take a chance on something that could be great – to drop everything and follow our heart's dream where it leads. Whether that involves a person, a location, or even a job change – we all have those dreams that responsibilities make seem so far away. So, reading a story about someone who does just that is incredibly relatable and allowed me to do the same vicariously.
The first-person narration and the surprising twists and turns create an incredibly fast-paced story that held my focus from beginning to end. I think the twists were my favorite part, as I didn't expect them based on the genre. They are several laughs too, which I always hope for with a romantic comedy, and the romance aspect is so natural and sweet. I loved that it wasn't instant love, as it could have easily been given the premise.
And I can't forget to mention the setting. I think part of the reason I related and rooted for Lydia is because that setting is my dream. Not specifically that island but any island, though Greek Islands with the white buildings and unreal blue water is such a visual dream and stunning setting.
Characters:
Lydia is the main character and narrator. She is an accountant in a relationship with her boss, who treats her horribly – paying her less than everyone else and dictating everything. But once she realizes what's going on – how controlling and self-serving he is- she changes drastically. I admire her strength of character and her sense of adventure. She is determined, brave, and loves to explore. She is a character who is easy to get behind.
To Read or Not to Read:
If you are looking for a book that will take you on a fun adventure to a beautiful location, Take A Chance on Greece is just that book. It will delight and surprise you!
Lydia finds out that she has a tattoo on her back saying "Awesome Andreas" after a very boozy last night on holiday in Kefalonia. With no memory of how it happened, and indeed who Andreas is, she uncharacteristically returns to Kefalonia to find him.
What Lydia does is totally out of character for her - but this is the whole premise of the book, I'm sure that I wouldn't have the nerve to throw my whole life into turmoil in the way that she did. The descriptions of the island make it sound idyllic, the dates with each different "Andreas" have some great moments and there is a great sense of community and acceptance of her with the locals. An ideal summer read to pass a few hours and escape, if only in your mind, to a holiday destination.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

It took me a while to get into this book following Lydia and her girlfriends who as they come back to the uk following a break in Greece Lydia discovers a tattoo with a guys name. A perfect summer beach read.!
Lydia and her best friends are on holiday, on the island of Kefalonia in beautiful Greece.
After a night out, Lydia wakes up with a tattoo on her back, but can’t remember of how she got it.
After coming back home and things not working out with her boyfriend, she decides to go back to Kefalonia on her own to find out how she got the tattoo name on her back and who he is…..
The story was funny, was easy to read, had lovely characters, as well as a gorgeous setting.
I recommend this book.

Thank you NetGalley, Emily Kerr and HarperCollins UK for the ARC Take a Chance on Greece. This is my personal review.
There are some books that I pick up and plan to read for just a little while and before I realize it, I am reading the last page of the book. This was one of those books.
Lydia and some of her girl friends go on a girl’s trip to Greece. Lydia brings more back with her from their trip than she expected. She comes back with a tattoo and cannot remember when or why she got it.
This tattoo makes her decide to return and figure out her life. This is one book you will want to read and enjoy it as much as I did. No spoilers here from me grab this one and escape with Lydia, you will be glad you did.
