This author uses men and women of the Bible to help us all realize what we all really need in our life-Peace.
Highly recommend.
I really loved Ann Swindell’s The Path to Peace: Experiencing God’s Comfort When You’re Overwhelmed! In The Path to Peace, Ms. Swindell has written 40 devotional entries that are divided into 8 sections (meaning each section has 5 devotional entries). Each section focuses on different Bible Stories or Bible Passages (for example Hannah or Moses) and has a corresponding Bible Passage and Reflection. Pulling from her own life experiences and what Ms. Swindell has learned from the Bible Passages mentioned, each entry is written with sound teaching, experience from someone who has been there, and a deep love for Christ.
I used The Path to Peace: Experiencing God’s Comfort When You’re Overwhelmed as part of my devotion time. I could relate to the stories that Ms. Swindell shared and the lessons she learned. I like that Ms. Swindell was real with the reader regarding her experiences and that doing things God’s Way is hard at times because of our human nature. I love how the Bible Passages and Ms. Swindell’s experiences are easily woven together into each entry. I really enjoyed reading this as part of my devotion time. The Path to Peace: Experiencing God’s Comfort When You’re Overwhelmed really ministered to me and challenged me in my walk with Christ. If you are looking for a devotional for your devotion or quiet time, then I highly recommend The Path to Peace: Experiencing God’s Comfort When You’re Overwhelmed by Ann Swindell.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads and my blog, Leslie's Library Escape.
The Path to Peace by Ann Swindell is an easy and honest read. Short readings with her honest voice on the hard realities of this world.
*I received a dARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my review.
The Path to Peace, by Ann Swindell, is an inspiring, helpful, relevant book that is easy to read, with short, daily chapters and applicable life lessons drawing the reader into the peace of Christ.
Each section focuses on a different person in the Bible, and each chapter centers on a particular theme. Ann shares the Biblical perspective in a personal way, bringing the story to life, and then shares a parallel personal experience. She ends each section with a reflection section giving the reader something to consider. The Biblical figures are clearly human and flawed, but also live lives that point to the power, presence and peace that Christ provides in a variety of areas.
This devotional is biblically sound, practical, interesting and encouraging. It’s also a lovely book in physical form and would make a wonderful keepsake, or gift for others. I look forward to more from this author.
Thank you to Bethany House Publishers for the read of Ann Swindell's, The Path to Peace.
Reading Ann's book and contemplating on the recounting of biblical stories that she interrelates with real struggles, has been a curative solace for me. Anyone needing to unburden, or seeking balance in these tumultuous times should read this uplifting, spiritual sojourn.
The Path to Peace by Ann Swindell is a devotional that is beautifully written to give you the tools to discover peace in a broken world! Each section focuses on a person of the Bible and is then divided by day as you walk through your path to peace. Readers will find each day beginning with a focus verse, then a scripture passage to be read in the Bible, followed by an overview devotional and ending with a reflection prayer. Swindell doesn't just give you a devotional with her opinion, she gives you the tools to dig deeper in scripture. Sometimes we don't know where to begin or how to study the scriptures, but with The Path to Peace you will find a starting point to your journey. It is not only an excellent book to read for yourself, but one that would be a perfect gift for a friend!
This is a gentle, soft book written in Ann's typical graceful style. It is inspirational and kind, but remains challenging in concrete, specific ways. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an uplifting devotional.
The Path to Peace is Ann Swindell’s second published work. I did a review of her first book Still Waiting if you’d like to check that out, too.
The Path to Peace is a devotional that pairs biblical stories with Ann’s personal experiences to provide insight into how the stories may be at work in your life, too. Some of those stories include Sarah from Genesis, Hannah from 1 Samuel, and Paul from the New Testament.
I’ve always enjoyed Swindell’s retellings if scripture. She adds in historically accurate insights and often makes the voice of the scripture stories more in line with a reading of the Message than the standard English translations such as the NIV or ESV. Her personal stories were touching and thought provoking. Overall, it was a great devotional, perfect sized readings to start or end your day. As week as plenty of encouragement for our days.
Synopsis: “Yes, peace includes emotions of tranquility and wholeness and harmony. But…peace means being at rest—being content—exactly where you are, because of who God is and because of your relationship with him through Christ.” Peace. It’s something we all wish for, are all searching for, but life’s circumstances tend to try and rob us of it. But peace isn’t unattainable. Through her 40-day devotional, Ann Swindell walks through the lives of 8 different Bible characters and how they experienced peace even in difficult circumstances. Peace isn’t just for these ancient people; it’s for us too.
Review: At the recommendation of, I dove into this beautiful devotional. First off, the cover drew me in because it’s gorgeous and who isn’t looking for peace in their lives? With short scripture passages and daily readings, this devotional is easy to follow. Reflection questions at the end of each day help you to really think and apply scripture to your daily life. I also loved the way each daily reading is set up: Ann Swindell starts with some biblical fiction and then how she’s learned these things in her own life. It makes for a very conversational and enjoyable read. Whether you’re looking for peace now or just need to soak up truth for later, this is one you’ll want to add to your shelf.
Ann Swindell's new 40-day devotional, The Path to Peace, is a terrific companion to your daily time in prayer and in the Word. Swindell uses scripture based entries to help readers face anxiety and stress, culminating in a life of possible peace and contentment. In addition, Swindell uses personal stories of her own anxious fears and doubts to help readers relate, as well as a reflection time at the end of each entry. When reading devotionals in companionship with my Bible and prayer time, I am of the belief that every little bit helps if it assists you in your walk with the Lord, and Ann Swindell's journey to finding peace does not disappoint.
Devotional-style, Ann writes beautiful narratives of pivotal people in Scripture and encourages readers to find inner peace in God, even amid outer turmoil. I confess, I enjoyed most when she wrote memoir-style about her own life
A path to peace is a devotional style book that leads readers on a journey of finding peace in difficult circumstances. Ann brings to life the stories of several characters from scripture including; Sarah, Moses, Ruth, Hannah, Paul, Mary the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. These followers of God certainly knew a thing or two of hard times. And yet they clung hard to their faith, trusting in the love of God to get them through.
Ann gently weaves each scriptural account with her own difficult circumstances. Her life, though filled with many hard times, is a testimony to Gods goodness. Her bravery in sharing the hard times is like a breath of fresh air. I was encouraged that we needn't cover up our hard times and be ashamed, but rather live surrendered and open handed, trusting that God has a plan even in the painful life experiences we all experience in our lives. Our lives are a living, breathing testimony to Gods goodness and redemption.
The Path to Peace will be a blessing to many as it encourages quiet time with our loving heavenly father and His son, Jesus. The biblical retellings will encourage you to be in the word, the personal memoirs will feel like having coffee with a friend, and the journal questions will help you quietly deliberate your path to peace today.
This lovely book has encouraged me to pray for peace in my heart and home each day no matter what life's circumstances throw my way. On the days when I can't feel peace, I have been encouraged for eyes afresh from my God, who is my strength and refuge, and very much at work in my life. A simple prayer, "Lord, help," has been my path to peace so many times since reading Ann's latest book. I highly recommend.
Great Devotional When Feeling Overwhelmed and Needing to Find Peace!
A great mix of scripture and life experiences that can help you find tools to help find a path to peace in your life. The reflection help you to ponder and wrestle through some areas you might be struggling with.
A few similar experiences that I could really relate to and actually really helped me reframe them and hopefully God will work on my heart more. It really helps to hear someone talk about their experiences in a humble and real way that allows you to open those areas that we’ve been hurt in and grow. I’m thankful I found this book.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.
The Path to Peace: Experiencing God’s Comfort When You’re Overwhelmed, Ann Swindle
There are times when a book finds you at exactly the right time. This was one of those books for me.
Overwhelmed. Anxious. Exhausted. Needing Peace.
Enter Ann and her stories, her words, her wisdom and, most importantly, her honest look at Scripture.
This is not a revolutionary book but it is true and it is gentle. Ann is vulnerable in sharing her stories and reflecting on the stories of the Bible Characters.
There were places I screen shot and wished for a physical copy (I have now ordered my own to mark up at will) and places I skimmed. I think that’s the thing with a book like this; some points will meet you where you’re at more than others and that’s okay.
Ann prefaces the book by saying “ You will get the most benefit from this book if you take the time to read the Scripture passages that are noted at the start of each chapter. While the words I offer in these devotions have been thoughtfully and prayerfully written, the truth is that nothing transforms us as much as the Word of God. Reading the Bible is what our hearts need most.” And you can tell, by the way she writes, that she believes it.
40 chapters for 40 daily devotionals. 8 Bible Characters. 5 themes from each character. Immediately following the heading is the scripture reference Ann intends for her readers to dig into. Then she tells the story in her own words, only then following it up with her lived experiences and her thoughts on how the two connect and how it practically can impact our day to day lives.
Thank you, Anne, for this beautiful book.
Ann Swindell has masterfully woven the stories of well known Biblical characters, sometimes referred to as the heroes of faith with her personal experiences to create a 40 day devotional that touches on all aspects of life. From trusting God through financial hardship to relying on Him through difficult relationships, to rooting yourself in Him while he transforms your identity, Ann reminds us that with God we can find a peace that surpasses all understanding and circumstances thrown our way. These Biblical characters are not glorified within the pages of A Path To Peace, instead their stories are used as a backdrop to display God‘s trustworthiness and faithfulness in equipping those who follow Him, then and today!
I enjoyed the way the author told biblical stories alongside her own personal experience of trials that would challenge a feeling of peace. The way the book is divided into daily readings that are tied to specific scripture made it work like a short term bible study which is great as a reset to get your mind into a different place in a few short weeks. The writing was solid.
Ann weaves together storytelling, memoir, and devotional in her new book that captures the struggles of life beautifully. She challenges the reader with the tough questions while also lovingly sharing her story so you know you are not alone. The passages referenced give you the opportunity to dig deeper into the biblical stories and remind you where peace truly comes from.
The Path to Peace beautifully weaved together the story of a variety of biblical characters, her experiences, and Scripture to point readers to Jesus. The Path to Peace is a great Bible study/devotional that works for those wanting to learn more about God, those who are walking through uncertainty and difficulty, or anyone who wants to be reminded of the importance of clinging to Jesus through the ups and downs of life. If you're looking for a great devotional to encourage a friend on in her faith or neighbor, this is it!
Ann Swindell has written the most unique and intriguing devotional I have ever had the pleasure of reading! She begins the with a sort of Christian fiction portrayal of the emotions and communication of the biblical character and then she seamlessly transitions into her own life stories of God's continual faithfulness. Ann continually challenges your heart attitude, while giving you a hug of empathy, as she gently expresses her own humanity and God's unwavering grace. I was so pleasantly surprised by this devotional. I think that this is perfect for women in all stages of faith. The fictionalized verses at the beginging opens up the heart of the biblical character in a way that makes the verses come alive to someone who maybe struggles in the Word, or is not a Christian yet. It has a soft rawness to it that allows truths to sink in and absorb before you realize it because you're caught up in her life story, but God is there all along.
